2nd Passat no issues

I replaced my 2015 Passat SE 1.8T with a 2017 Passat R-Line 1.8T. I put 90k on the 2015 in 2 years, not a single issue. I replaced it only because I love the look of the R-Line and got a great deal. The 2017 has proven to be just as reliable. I am driving less now, but still racked up 59k in 3 years. No issues whatsoever. Great looking car, huge backseat and trunk. We take the Passat on road trips over my wife’s 2018 Equinox SUV because we can fit more in the VW! Driving position is perfect and comfortable. Build quality is fantastic. MPG is fantastic. All around great value for a great looking reliable car.

Worst thing was the lag on take-off. The gearing of the transmission is really not right. The offered models make little sense. If you want the carplay option you have to pay for a sunroof, too! Or get the R which is unavailable. Not to mention how offensive the car sales process remains.

If VW can not upgrade my 2013 TDI then this will be my replacement vehicle. Not happy about the loss of mileage but being 6 `5`` tall love the leg room.

Superb car. We chose one loaded in the turbo-charged 1.8 lt. engine. All the zip you need. Comfort galore inside. Looks like a Mercedes sitting in my driveway. Great handling, smooth ride, it doesn't feel anything like a cheap, economy car. Classy as a ride gets unless you can afford a Bentley. Our interior is a tasteful blend of black and tan. Love the black carpeting and black piping on the seat. Sporty styling for adults with all the bells and whistles. In terms of comfort and class, I think it stands out nicely compared to Camry or even my other car, a Honda. If it holds up over time, I got more than my money's worth.

The elegant and timeless styling of VW makes this car a true beauty. The engineering , safety and technology of VW makes this car the one to watch. I am a true fan and will never buy another brand. VW is the best German engineering out there without depleting your pocket book. I am proud to say this is my 4th VW and counting...........................Love , love , love my baby.

I recommend another vw model other than the r line. I just had the worst experience after getting a screw in my tire. Nobody carries these tires!(235-40-19) Nope, not even the vw dealer I went to. They said they would have to order it because they don't carry them since they don't sell many of these tires. That is ridiculous to me...you can't carry one set?? I had to drive home to ny from sc on the spare tire.

VW LOYALTY TO TDI OWNERS DOES NOT EXIST ,ASK WHY

jim Ramthun, 10/12/2016

VW does not have any loyalty incentives in place for the owners returning their TDIs. VWs answer when asked why not is the incentive to the TDI customer is the added cash when you sell the car back (you get the cash if you repurchase a VW or not). I will take the money and not buy a VW again. If they have no loyalty to a TDI owmer why should the owner have loyalty to the VW brand.

I went to the VW dealership planning on looking at a Tiguan. With the inventory is short supply I happened to check out the Passats a few cars over. Upon opening the door and checking out the interior I was pleasantly surprised to the quality and layout. The first and only car I looked at turned out to be the color combination I was looking for. What won me over was the fit and finish. It feels like a solid car and drove really well. The safety features are fantastic and I believe that's why I'm saving $200 a year on insurance over my outgoing 5 year old Mazda 3. The rear cross traffic alert has saved me quite a few times. Rear seat passenger room is spacious and the trunk is massive. It's only been a year but not issues, runs great and continues to impress.

We've had a VW in our garage since the early 80s. Always loved the value/performance ratio. 'First Passat was a 1995 GLX (manual), drove it to 200,000+ miles and sold it to our neighbor. Our last Passat was a 2005 GLI Wagon (manual). We loved that too, ...traded it for the R-Line with 220,000+ and it still ran fine, looked great ('kinda miss that car). As my wife's new job entailed travel, it was just time for something newer. When shopping for a new car, the Passat was obviously high on our list. Also, wife has always had a "sporty" car, VW GTIs, Audi GTI, (yeah, that was a while back, for those of you who remember!) etc. In fact, this is her first car without a manual. It was love at first drive. Since this was to be our "grown up" car, a large cabin was a must, as weekend road trips with other couples have become the norm. Fuel mileage was also high on the list (I drive a TDI). While certainly not as fuel efficient as my TDI it does not do badly for as large as it is. Oddly, it feels much smaller, sportier than my small TDI wagon. You'd never guess a modestly priced car this size could be so light on it's feet, ...and quiet! The little engine really feels much larger than 170 HP and 184 lb/ft of torque! There is more than enough room for another couple and weekend gear, ...yet a real sporty driver. My only complaint, is that I wish we could get the R-Line in the States that the rest of the world gets. We really miss the wagon and would have preferred the higher level of trim that the rest of the world gets in the R-Line. Combined with their 2.0 liter driveline and standard transmission it would have been a nice "grown up's" performance car with more interior room than a SUV! But if you live in the states, at this price point, you really can't beat this car. You can justify it as "good solid transportation", ..but you'll always know you bought it because it's so sporty and fun to drive. The perfect compromise for midlife!

Passat ahead of both Camry and Accord

Had a 2013 Passat SE. Sold it because did not have a sunroof. After driving a 2013 A4 and a 2016 A6, went back to a 2017 Passat SE. While Passat does not have a flashy exterior, it is more solid than both Camry and Accord. with 90K miles on odometer, I have had zero issues. Positives: Excellent seats, quiet cabin, tight handling, and its MPG.....I have done 640 miles between fill ups. I give Passat a very high reliability mark. I had no issues with either 2013 ( with 2.5L engine or the 2017 model with 1.8L engine that I owned.

Needs New Engine at 80,000 Miles!

Does it make sense? Rewrite to make it flow better. "Purchased vehicle new in 2017. From the beginning there were issues. Road noise was always a problem. Wheel sensors consistently went out (which is not a fun thing when travelling on the interstate at high speed). Carpet on the passenger side pulled up within two years. Went through tires even though I ensured they were rotated. Worst of all, vehicle needs a NEW ENGINE at 81,000 miles!!! All maintenance was kept up on. I have a cousin who had this exact same thing happen to her with the same generation of Passat. I HIGHLY DO NOT recommend this car. I will be selling my Jetta as well now. Never will I buy a Volkswagen again."

I just bought a car from Hallmark VW in Nashville TN. I am on a trip in Jacksonville FL, 4,000 miles on car and the cruise control has stopped working. I call two local deals in Florida after my Hallmark dealer told me to bring the car in and they would resolve. The dealers in Florida were to busy to help with the problem and now I have to drive my new broken car back over 800 miles to have the Hallmark people look at the issue. I have owned cars for 30 plus years and never had the cruise control stop working. No wonder why VW was selling this care so cheap, it must be junk. Oh well only seven years until I can get rid of this piece of junk and the away from their dealers.

25k and the tires burnout!? oh its wear and tear B

Not happy that my tires burnout after 25k and they tell me it's wear and tear! Go funk urselfs. I know what "wear and tear looks like. I work in a junkyard and towing! I see it everyday... I can buy the cheapest tires with 50k tread warranty! Yet urs burns out after 25k! Not happy! This was not in the lease agreement! That I would have to replace tires after 25k. My tread depth is 3/32s to Max maybe 5/32s. The car has been in for routine service and a extra early alignment done also. My wife got a nail in the rr. That is when I saw how bad the tread depth was. I live in Wisconsin. This is the wrong time to push tread depth! This is a safety hazard! Yet you VW. Who tests cars for wear and tear. Puts on crappy tires that are automatically voided from the factory! On any new cars. This from continental. So the dealer blame the VW. VW blames the tire company. Tire company blames VW... And all goes around in a circle! This is BS! So the car will sit on its rims in the parking lot... Mark my words. I'm taking my tires back. You don't like it. Explain it to the judge
