2018 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen TSI SE 4dr Wagon (1.8L 4cyl Turbo 6A)
Bougth an SE for 6,500 off MSRP....this the best deal ever from buying a new car. This is my wife’s replacing the BMW X5 and could not believe that this car is 1/3 of the price and drives very well and options are all very useful. However, its lacking the engine power but enough for daily driving.

2018 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen TSI SE 4dr Wagon (1.8L 4cyl Turbo 6A)
Extremely well built and solid car. A sporty solid fun car to drive. Acceleration is good with the turbo stratified injection. Lots of cargo room, great radio and fuel economy. What a wonderful car at twice the asking price: Five years later this car is everything and more than I expected. Great fuel mileage (avg. 40+ mpg on highway) yet goes when you engage the turbo. Only … negative and not attributed to the car itself is that my headlights are getting small cracks, I went to the Dealer for warranty work. They told me no that the headlight cracking was due to an accident probably someone backed into it at the Dealer Vic Bailey in Spartansburg. I called the Dealer and no response. I have had no problems with this car and in fact, I am looking to purchase another 2018 Golf Sportwagen SE.
So far so good

2018 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen TSI SE 4dr Wagon (1.8L 4cyl Turbo 6A)
Pounded out 20000 miles in just over a year. It's served as my local commuter and family long hauler. I've averaged over 33 mpg with it.
Only problem has been a leaky panoramic sunroof. Dealer cleared drain tubes and replaced headliner. No problem since.
Air conditioning is weak. Seems to just be a trait of the model. I've sampled others with the same issues.
The SE trim is lacking dual … zone auto climate control and auto dimming mirror. Two features for which I'd gladly trade the sunroof.
Rear seating is surprisingly roomy, but a bit too upright. No adjustment (unlike my Outback)
Edmunds Summary Review of the 2018 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen TSI SE Wagon
Pros & Cons
- Pro:Holds almost as much cargo as many compact crossovers
- Pro:Interior features quality design and materials
- Pro:Turbo four-cylinder engine delivers high fuel economy
- Pro:Offers optional all-wheel drive
- Con:Automatic transmission sometimes slow to shift in low-speed driving
- Con:Relatively snug back seat
Which Golf SportWagen does Edmunds recommend?
The base model S is well-equipped, and it's the only trim that offers all-wheel drive or a manual transmission. But a better choice is the SE. You also get an 8-inch touchscreen, a panoramic sunroof, simulated leather upholstery and more driver safety aids. It's a better value than the SEL. And if you really need AWD, consider the better-equipped Golf Alltrack wagon.

Driving
With 170 horsepower, the 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine should prove potent enough for most drivers. It'll have to because it's the only choice. Despite the vehicle's name, there's not much "sport" to the car's handling abilities.
Comfort
The SportWagen is a Golf through and through, which means impressive seat and ergonomic comfort all around. The central control panel is angled toward the driver for easier access.
Interior
Large windows all around with ample glass and a simple, sensible control layout make the SportWagen's cabin a pleasant, user-friendly environment. The premium materials and a conservative design make this wagon seem more entry-luxury than economy compact.
Utility
Increased cargo capacity and utility are arguably the key reasons to buy the SportWagen over the Golf hatchback. With the rear seats folded, the cargo area is cavernous. The standard roof rails sweeten the deal for outdoor enthusiasts.
Technology
Thankfully, Volkswagen has upgraded this system for 2018 with new 6.5- and 8-inch touchscreens, complete with a much-improved interface and graphics. The voice control system is well-executed.
