2022 Toyota Camry
I had been researching cars and suv for literally years because I like to keep up. I had a 2014 Honda Crv which was fine for awhile but the ride, handling and fuel economy was a disappointment. I am older so I was still looking for something which was not an ingress/egress challenge and so I thought I was going to be back in an suv of some kind when it came time to buy. I waited long … enough for the chip shortage to change the supply demand picture and then the fuel prices started going up and hybrids and fuel efficient sedan prices started going up too. I actually have an aversion to hybrid/ev vehicles anyway so I stuck with gasoline when I started looking seriously to buy. I settled on an Accord because the Civic made me feel claustrophobic and the seats were way down there. Well Honda dealers were reluctant to even talk about msrp for their Accords even at the dealer where I had bought my last Honda. My son recommended a Toyota dealer in Santa Maria (Santa Mari Toyota) who was selling at fair market prices with no price gouging dealer add ons. I made contact with them and wound up with a Camry SE. I love the car..it handles very well and rides very well and the fuel economy is highly rated. All the car rating sites have it rated highly but they all slobber over Hondas and the put a Mazda or maybe a Korean car in between in their ratings. I smell a rat but I can recommend the Camry personally and without reservation. The seating is well situated for comfort and the cushions are firm but comfy and mildly bolstered. The synthetic fabric is just fine for me..better than all fabric and almost leather like in feel and appearance. The car is plenty fast enough, seriously..I love performance but speed costs money and this is as fast as I can go. The eco setting is ok sometimes but I prefer normal. The sport setting tightens up steering and the shifts are farther between so when you pass you have the best the car can do. The radio is 6 speakers which sounds a little Econo for audiophiles which I am but the sound is absolutely excellent for this class of car. It is not a branded set up but trust me you will be impressed. I am still experimenting with the safety 2.5 settings and I am getting better with them although I use cruise control a lot I am Luke warm over the lane warning and lane assisting. OK it is there but I like to drive without those. Cross traffic and rear warnings are great so am good with it. The backup camera is really nice with a lit up grid showing your projected steering path. I have always bought cars with sun roofs and I have really never used them. It is always either too hot out or cool and the noise when driving is distracting. The SE does not come with the roof so I am happy to save the money and have a little more head room. Complaints are niggling..the glove box is small..the center console lid is big and clumsy to open in my seating position but it is large enough inside to be handy. I had trouble connecting to Apple car play a couple of times but that seemed to go away. The car is new so maybe I should knock on wood but I am so happy I made this choice.
