2020 Toyota Camry
I've owned the 2020 Camry TRD now for about 10 months now, with ~10k miles on it. When I went shopping for a vehicle I was coming from a 2014 Honda Accord Sport.
Exterior:
I already knew I wanted the new 8th gen Camry style, because I've seen it on the roads and have done some google image searches. I needed a sedan because I drive family and friends for outings alot, and also I live in … a urban area where passenger space/cargo space needs to be evenly spacious. I had the dealer show me the difference between the LE, SE, XSE and the TRD side by side. And although I liked the SE body styling, I didn't like that the grille was unpainted black. I loved the XSE headlights and taillights, however the diffusers, side skirts and the weird split spoiler on the TRD sold me right away.
Interior:
The interior of all the Camry's are pretty much the same. If you're going for the leatherette interior the biggest difference with the TRD is that it has red trimmings and an embossed lettering on the front head rest. Otherwise it's the same. Apple CarPlay was a huge plus for me, and a great upgrade from the Accord I had. The TRD was also the cheapest option to grab a V6 engine. I understand that some people thing the V6 might be too powerful for a everyday driver. But I say this with absolute certainty , there's no beating out that extra oomph when you need it. The plastics interior were also very clean and had great angles to them.
On Road Review:
Honestly, from driving a Manual Accord to a Auto Camry, the acceleration obviously was totally different. The Camry has a ever slight lurch from 1st to 2nd gear but coming down gears are smoooooth. The steering is tighter than most sedans (which I like). I can't say much about the suspension because it's been tuned out, so if you're uncomfortable with a slightly rougher ride, I'd go with a SE or XSE. Also just as an observation from somebody who's owned vehicles that have low profile tires; these painted black rims + all season Michelins can REALLY take on the roads. And where I'm from in New York, there are potholes EVERYWHERE. I'm extremely impressed that despite blowing one of my front tires at around ~6500mi, there were no rim damage, as opposed to my Accord rims, they were bent for days. I maintain my vehicles, oil changing every 4000mi or so. And so far, I've had no issues with the Camry.
Now there are a slight few cons, but only if you are bothered by them, not me. During high speed driving 70-80mph, you can seriously hear the sounds of the wind coming through the doorways. Fortunately I play music so I don't hear this often but it IS noticeable. When it rains however, the water hitting the side skirts are extremely loud, very noticeable. It can become annoying if you're driving semi long distance trips in a downpour. The safety features, such as lane assists are pretty sensitive. It would be wise to only turn them on ONLY during long distance road trips, in case you ever get too exhausted (knock on wood). Otherwise, there's nothing much else.
I've read plenty of reviews about the sunglass holder being too cheap, and how the infotainment system is alittle bit cumbersome. But let's be real here, for 31,500 it's not exactly a luxury vehicle. $30k+ vehicles are mid range cost vehicles, and honestly comparing the Camry to most other sedans, I'd give this car a good 5/5 rating.
I highly recommend this vehicle to starting drivers, for small families as well as daily commuters who carpool. Excellent vehicle to travel in, and it looks amazing. Can't wait to own this baby for a long long time.
