We upgraded from a 2003 to a 2004 Toyota Sienna and there is a BIG difference. The vehicle is like 6" wider and longer and it is so nice. We were not able to put a rear-facing car seat in the second row of captains chairs in our 2003 but the 2004 fits it nicely and my wife and I are both over 6' tall. The stowable rear seat is very nice too. The gas mileage is right around 20 mpg which could be better. It has plenty of power though and the ride is nice. Some of the issues you'll likely run into with a 2004-2010 Sienna: sliding door cables will break, the dome light switches on the sliding doors will get water in them and go bad, a clicking noise in the steering column will develop and/or stiff steering caused by a corroded u-joint in the steering intermediate shaft, and also the right headlight fixture of all these vans is prone to have its seals go bad and for condensation to develop inside. I repaired all these issues myself though. Oh and I've had a front and rear spring break. BUT, the van has almost 200k on it and I'm confident I'll get to 300k with this van. So we are still pleased with it. 10/2/18 Update, 215,000 Miles: The air damper solenoid mechanism is clicking whenever we first turn on the AC, so that is something else we need to fix. We still like the van though.

Great Reliable Van

I once said I would never buy anything but a Ford or Chevy, but I am a Toyota believer now. Bought this van new in 2004 and it now has 175,000 miles on it with very little problems to speak of. Just routine maintenance for the most part. The dash did start to crack in the center at 100K and the radiator leaks a bit, but considering the mileage I cannot complain. I think this year I will replace the radiator finally, but still not terrible at 175K. Only other issue I had at about 155K was a front wheel bearing went bad. You know they are bad when you rumble down the road. Still a ton of mileage without major repair costs so really cannot complain!! Would definitely buy another Toyota!

I am on this site reviewing SUVs, expecting to one day replace our van. The problem is that our Sienna (215000 miles) keeps on running and still looks very good so there is no logical reason to buy a replacement yet. I also assume that I would get very little on a trade... We purchased our 2004 AWD in the fall of 2003. This has certainly been the most reliable vehicle I’ve ever owned. I have replaced struts, shocks just to give it a fresher ride and it drives and feels like a new car. We have replaced brakes, tires as needed, timing belts at each 100000 mile mark. The passenger sliding door is manual now. Works just like the drivers side sliding door that has always been manual. Engine and transmission have never caused any trouble. It’s become a bit of a game to see how long this will run. I highly recommend Toyota brand in general but particularly the Sienna if you need a minivan.

I bought my 04 used in 2008 with 55Kmi. I just sold it in Oct. with 90K miles. I thought it was a great car. Super comfy and great smooth and quiet ride. My complaints would be the heated seats never seemed to get more than lukewarm. I also thought it took awhile to warm the interior of this car in the winter. The other issue we had was the DVD player would sometimes not eject the discs but other than that it was a great car for us. The only reason I sold it was because I was ready for something non "mom like". I would reccomend.

Best Vehicle Ever!

2004 Toyota Sienna purchased brand new December 2003. Has 201,000 miles on it and still drives like it is brand new. Most comfortable vehicle on a long trip we have ever had, and a great run-around-town, grocery shopping vehicle. Plus great for hauling everything under the sun. We have had so many family vacations in this van, and it has been so comfortable. Reliability has been superb; no major issues - everything still working great after all these years. Has a few dings in it from parking lots, but a lot of people think it is a new van and are surprised when they hear how old it is. By far the best vehicle we have ever owned. And we are keeping it as long as it keeps running - which looks like will be a very long time. Only Toyotas for us from now on.
