I've had my first Subaru now for over 22,000 miles. After many years on the west coast, I was not used to the level of snow I experience here in Minnesota, and so when it was time for a new car on a budget I found myself choosing between this Subaru (AWD for the weather, decent MPG, bare bones for the rest) and a Nissan Altima (fun to drive, good creature comforts, same weather limitations as my previous Sentra). After over a year of ownership, I'd have to say I got what I expected to get: in city and highway driving in the snow, this is a vast improvement over the sedan I was driving, with reasonable MPG. The interiour is roomy but basic, the creature comforts are poor.

An excellent all-round small car

While one can't give the Impreza the highest marks in every categorie, the fact that it is at least competent in every way makes it very pleasant to own and drive. The CVT transmission takes some getting used to, but it is undeniably efficient. There's no manual available at the Premium trim level. The car isn't exactly underpowered, but it certainly isn't overwhelming. The paddle shifters simulating real gears are helpful for passing and steep downhills. The road noise level is pretty high. Other than that, I have no complaints. Great seats, simple and clear displays, incredible cargo space for a small car, and fun enough to drive. I've grown quite fond of it!

I bought this car new from the dealership in 2013 for my wive who had just given birth to our new baby boy, and it has been nothing but problems ever since. First we had an immediate leak in one of our tires. We took it back and forth for a month of them claiming to have fixed it only to have the low tire pressure light come back on. It ended up breaking a diff sensor, and then we had to replace all of the tires at once with 3 of 4 being nearly new. We then had an oil consumption issue where I would regularly need to add oil between oil changes. We had the oil consumption test several times and each time I had to deal with a new service manager, because they were either being fired or quit. After one trip home of about 40 miles on the freeway I got about 23mpg on the freeway instead of the 34 it normally got. Then after turning the car off it would start only for a second then turn itself off. The service rep on the phone had me disconnect the battery and bring it back in for reflashing. Eventually we got one to fix the problem under warranty. Then the CVT went out! I asked the salesman about the CVT specifically and he said "It is maintenance free, and will last the life of the vehicle." So that was a huge lie. The driver side front seat has a huge hole in it where the metal frame has broken through the padding and fabric after 5 years of use by my wife who is much smaller than me. I wouldn't recommend the car or brand to people I hate. Subaru should do the honest thing and buy them all back. My 24 year old truck has had fewer problems than this 5 year old piece of junk. Update: the car cannot even be registered because there is an issue with these engines that would cause them to lock up at freeway speeds and kill you. What a piece of junk. They should do a full recall and give everyone their money back. Update. Seven years after purchasing the subaru it is still the very worst car that I’ve ever owned. I would not recommend it to anyone, and the dealer that I bought it from (Kearny Mesa Subaru) is terrible also.

My first Subaru, picked up a few weeks ago after laborous research, test drives, and deliberations. Could not be happier with my purchase. No car is absolutely perfect, but this car meet every one of my criteria at or beyond expectations. It is comfortable, practical, fun to drive, and as versatile as any car I have owned. I use it as a city car and it takes pot holes like a champ, manuevers perfectly, feel safe and comfortable, and squeezes into those tough spots a full size just cant. I love my Subaru and the Impreza wont win any contests on looks alone, but is really the most practical and well rounded car I can find.

Ok 1k miles so far and my subaru impreza 2.0 sport premium 5 speed has more than any ture real world driver needs. in pouring rain no problem cornering at speed. snow storm no problem. All those pathetic BMW and Benz drivers struggled to gain confidence, while I drove and could feel the vehicles amazing stability, and impressive control. heated seats work better than my acura tsx, its a functional, fun, good looking, family, and weekend warrior, or bachelor go outdoor vehicle. If you want fancy .. its bluetooth, and can get optional nav. big whoop. buy a gps for 100 bucks, and save your dough. brakes are a 9 of 10 . WHEN THE ZOMBIES COME, you will sk yourself.... GOT SUBARU?
