So Its not what I thought It would be
I bought it from the dealership used, and it was upgraded with Limo Tint, and nice 18' inch rims and tires. Well, I dont know if the problems I have had with the car are the manufacturers fault, or maybe the fact that I have 18' wheels on a car that normally has 14'.But, the ride is NOT smooth at all. Its insanely bumpy at times, especially living in Southern California, and having pot holes everywhere. There have been many MANY times Ive muted my sound because I thought for sure I ran someone/something over because its so loud. Also, the MPG is a lot lower then I thought it would be, I get about 220-250 miles per tank.
Update of "Gotta luv the Box"
Have 1,000 miles on my Scion xB now and I am still very happy. I took it fully loaded (4 adults, wedding gifts and clothes) into the mountains of Asheville, NC. It strained a little on the biggest hill but ran great. I still averaged almost 35 mpg! I had kayak racks installed and it did increase the noise some, but that was the same with my Explorer. I enjoy the sound system more each time I hear it and the 5-speed transmission is just plain fun though 1st gear is a quick shift thru to second. Everyone who has ridden in this car loved it, including me. (g)

What a car!
I love this car. We got it for our son to drive but I have fallen for it and would much rather drive it than my Honda Mini-Van. It handles very well, zips in and out of tight places and has an amazing amount of room inside. Also, you range of vision is excellent driving this car. I know it is marketed to the Gen X'ers, but Toyota got this one right! Love the funky look too!
This Car is the Greatest
Ohh this car is great! I mean, you really can't get any better. You have the size of a car, the space of an SUV and the looks of a unique car. It's so totaly great! Buy one. I'm plan on getting another one when my daughter turns 16 next month. You can also trick them out like crazy! There are so many different styles. We will have fun and i'm sure you will too!
Thanks Scion
The new 2006 Scion xB is the best small car for local driving. It is great on gas and easy and fun to drive. I looked at tons of cars, this was my choice, and I made the right choice. I have driven one for a month and 2,000 miles and it still makes me happy.
Toyota Does it Again!
It is remarkable that a company can continue to build quality machines at three different price levels. I've owned an Avalon, Camry and now Scion xB. While the xB's engine noise is rather loud at times, it gives the driver a great deal of confidence in handling and relability. For the Eastern winters I purchased four Bridgestone Blizzack snow tires; the traction and snow/wet handling are excellent. My gas mileage is climbing upward as I break the car in I expect the gas savings to be a big plus. One gets the sense that this car is well built for the price. Above all, it will be cost effective and have great utility. I expect the Scion lines to grow rapidly.
Coolest Mom Ever
Yes, I've now been elevated to coolest Mom status ever by by 10 and 14 year old sons. I test drove the car on their recommendation, and basically fell in love with it after the first drive! Why love..because I've been a van driver for 12 years and am now thrilled to be in such a groovy little car. My husband loved the price, the great gas mileage and the fact that his 6'2'' frame fit comfortably in the car. We had previously test drove even some SUV's which did not compare as far as interior comfort and size. The styling is smart and I love the appearance. The large interior feel of the car doesn't seem to match what appears to be a tiny car from the outside.
Love my xB
I love my Scion xB! I was hesitant at first, but this car grew on me really fast. It has great interior room and cargo space(60/40 split). It has awesome fuel economy and a great stock Pioneer 160 watt sound system. I opted for the iPod and Sirius radio and it makes my long driving even more enjoyable! I drive this car daily and it's a looker. I replaced the stock 15" hubcaps / tires with some 17" 7-spoke gunmetal rims. My xB looks and handles even better! Not to mention my 17" rims match the cool looking Thunder Clound Metallic Scion offers! I have fun driving this car everyday. All in all, it is a great and fun car!
Suggest Scion
The Scion xB has so much room in the inside with comfort in mind. In many vehicles in this price range, power windows, power locks, etc. are an option. They are all standard in the xB. Although the engine is only a small 1.5L, it does have the get up and go that I need. It does have a little trouble getting up steep hills but this is only a small thing considering all the things that can be done with this vehicle. The drive feels like you are riding on rails. I get a lot of compliments from people who like this car, but as you will find either you like this car or you don't. Many people criticize it for being too boxy, but for me that is the allure of it.
Great Little Box
i bought my 2006 Scion xB 3.5 weeks ago and already have 3,100 miles on it. It is a lot of fun to drive. It looks small outside, but it is huge on the inside. I have already bought a lot of aftermarket accessories for it - which only make it even better. Mine is an automatic and it gets between 29 to 34 miles per gallon. This is an awesome commuter car and it likes to cruise at 75 mph, which is only at 3,000 rpm. The other day I burned a quarter tank and went to gas station to get gas and laughed when it took 3 gals to get back on full. I haven't had any problems in the wind at all - but the windshield does attract a lot of bugs. I love my box and it is worth the $16,719 that I paid "out the door"!
2006 Scion xB
WOW best describes the Scion xB. It has lots of room, sufficient get up and go for a 4-cylinder car, and you gotta love that gas mileage. I got 31 mpg on the first tank of gas.
Another Old Timer Likes It
The automatic Scion xB is underpowered but the 5-speed has enough power to merge into busy traffic. Its gas mileage is amazing [40+ mpg] with the 5-speed if you keep it at 55 mph and drive with a very light foot without the air conditioning on during a trip. If you want the 5-speed you may have to order it since it seems few dealers have them on the lot and it may take 6-8 weeks.
Utility Defined
I know that Scion is marketed toward youngsters, but this "box" is too good to pass up. It has excellent fuel economy and handling, and beaucoup room, plus Toyota fit, finish, and reliability. It takes curves like a slot car. all for a price less than one would pay for a bone stock Civic or a loaded Kia. Yes, there are lots of options for the kids, but they are mainly useless gimicks and shiny trinkets. All you need (and more) comes standard: air comditioning, power everything, keyless entry, a 160 watt Pioneer stereo (so I can listen to Click and Clack at a volume that will bring down low flying Aircraft), stability and traction control. I am very very pleased with it, mine gets 34 mpg in mixed driving.
Hulking Ccion
I feel like Alice in wonderland...the car looks so small from the outside but once you settle inside and drive, you have more than enough room and the view of the road is like widescreen panaramic scene.
I LOVE it.
I LOVE my Scion xB SUV. Yeah that's right my SUV. Small Ugly Vehicle. It is responsive, stylish, and fun to drive. Its fit and finish is quite good for a "CHEAP" car. It is a real hoot to drive. It is a wee bit sluggish on passing on the highway, but other than that its wonderful. It has pleanty of room and a interior layout. I like this little box a great deal and would not hesitate to tell others how good it is.
Try the Scion xB
Having just purchased a Scion xB, I could not beleive the features it has that would normally be options on other vehicles. The car has good zip around town and climbs the hills in NE Georgia without difficulty. It felt really good on the first fill up after getting a solid thirty-one mpg. It handles very much like a sports car.
Fun to Drive
The Scion xB easily fits a normal size person (6'4"). It has sports car driving, but is so easy to get in and out of. It comes with a great standard feature set! Mature drivers quickly realize that driving can be fun again. Of the five xB's in my really small town, non are driven by kids! It is inexpensive, but it is not cheap. It has shades of the VW Bug from 40 years ago. Make sure to get the arm rest and cruse control.
Great Vehicle
I couldn't be happier in my Scion xB. This car rides better than my 2004 Toyota RAV4. It is fun to drive and I am getting about 31 mpg around town. Its seats give great support and the interior cabin noise is almost nothing. The style of the vehicle takes time to grow on you since it is so radical but really love the looks now.
Love the Box
I bought "the box" about two months ago and I only had to wait about two weeks for my xB. From what I have been reading that is realy fast. I never thought that I would own an import car. I was a Chevy man but I saw that the xB and for the price and what I was spending in gas for my Camaro I am now spending little over half the amout that I was. As an added bonus, my insurance dropped as well. I am about 6'1 and there is enouff leg room for me with the front seat all the way back.
My Scion XBox
The Scion xB has incredible interior design and is super easy to park anywhere because of its small size. I have had it since October and it has not gotten any dents from people slamming their doors into the car. The only bad thing about the it is that it is so close to the ground it leaves you very little clearance and most of the front part and the rear bumper are made of plastic. Overall though, I am VERY happy with the xB, it was my first new car purchase and it has been an excellent buy.
Scion xB 2006 Model
I traded in a 2004 Jeep Liberty (avg. 17 mpg) for a 2006 Scion xB for better gas mileage. So far, we are averaging 28 to 30 mpg for around town driving, and it costs so little to fill the tank. The only downside to this car is you feel every bump in the road, I would not recommend it if you have back problems. Also, our insurance company rates it as an SUV, not as a wagon. So if you buy one check out how much it will cost to insure it. We are happy with this car and would buy another one!
No Cruise Control?
I got the new Envy Green special edition automatic Scion xB. I really do love this little car/truck/suv thing. I downsized from a Chevrolet Avalanche! It hums right along at 80 mph. 0-60 it isn't the greatest, but then who would be surprised by that. It's plenty peppy. With my first tank of gas in mixed driving I got 28 mpg.
So far, oh so good
When the Scion xB was first introduced I did not like the style, however the more I have seen them the more they grew on me. After test driving it I change my mind. The right color, Black Cherry, makes this car.
Love My xB
I just bought my Scion xB because I wanted better gas mileage than my 14 mpg SUV. I love the interior space and couldn't bear to buy a compact car. The exterior and interior design is great, and the xB is suprisingly quick from a stop. Second and third gear are a bit sluggish, but at cruising speed it will keep up with anything on the freeway. Its ride is very smooth and quiet. The A/C works great on mine, and I am in 115 degree heat in Palm Springs in the summer. The interior could use a few small tweaks, but is overall satisfactory. The low price makes the xB a fantastic value, and mine is getting around 32 mpg on 2/3 freeway and 1/3 city driving. I hope more accessories come out soon!
Gotta Love the Box
I find the Scion xB to be quite roomy. I was going to buy an xA untill I drove the xB and I wanted the extra room that the xB provides. It handles great, it's fun to drive and it begs to be customized. I spent over three months researching and agonizing on what car to buy before I came to this decision and I feel you can't go wrong with an xB. It has everything I could ask for: reasonable fuel economy, seating for five, and cargo space when I need it.
Love It!
I love my Xb. I would never have picked a different car. Its unique, fun to drive, reliable, easy on gas, roomy, and inexpensive. I get a lot of looks in it.....they are just jealous! I would definitely recommend it to anyone!!!
Almost perfect
My Scion xB is black. It is so fun to drive. It evokes very curious responses from people. My wife and kids thought I was joking when I bought it. My teenage son vowed to never drive it and thought it was very uncool. It has excellent brakes. I made a panic stop yesterday from about 30 mph. and the ABS stopped it hard and straight. Without it, the wheels would have locked up and I would have slid into the car ahead of me. The Scion is quick enough from 0-30, but its acceleration is almost nil at speeds beyond 40 mph. In other words, passing on the freeway happens slowly. On a drive from San Francisco to LA recently, down I-5 and it hummed along at 75 mph no problem.
Maybe I AM Crazy!
My teenager told me if I bought this car she would NEVER drive it! When I first saw it, I laughed and said "How ugly. Show me something else!" But now we both absolutely love it. My 6'2" boys get in the back seat and have PLENTY of headroom AND knee room! Even with the seats all the way back. It has no power, but with teenagers, I would prefer a car without a lot of power. Hey, it gets me where I want to go. I don't feel claustrophobic. In fact, I love the seat position - not too high, not too low, forward enough so I feel in control and can see cars coming even when I am down a blind alley. I was disappointed in the mileage though. Even with my careful driving, I only get 30 mpg instead 34.
great car
This is the second Scion xB that I have owned. I loved both. I wrecked the first one. It held up well after being hit in the rear by a school bus . I was pushed into a full sized SUV that was stopped, the bus was doing 45 mph. I was so impressed by the way it held up. I bought anouther one . I just wished they came in a V6.
Scion Is Great
I think this is a great vehicle. The interior has plenty of room . My husband is 6 feet tall and has plenty of room in it. It gets great gas mileage.
Love that Box !
I was looking for something different and economical, and I hit the nail right on the head with the xB. It has a crazy amount of interior room. I love the center instrument cluster and storage that is available everywhere. It gets great gas mileage, has plenty of "pep" and handles well for a small vehicle. All of the standard features it has were a surprise. The price is an even bigger surprise.
More to follow!
We purchased this car as a B-day gift for my Wife's brother, and kept it garaged for 2 months. Before we gave it to him, but after only driving it 30 + miles my Wife was ready to get herself one. Which has not happened since we bought her 1979 Rabbit Diesel, but will happen as soon as the Diesel dies, its cylinder head is finally going after + 200,000 miles.
Fun Car, Milage not as Advertised
I am slightly disappointed in my xB's gas milage, the best milage I've have gotten is 31 mpg highway, 26 mpg city. I currently have 11,000 miles on the car. The paint is chipping off and I can't seem to get a touch up bottle from the dealer.
It Fits Me!
My 2006 Scion xB is definitely a "fun car" to own and drive. It fits me like a comfortable pair of shoes, handles reasonably well -- no, exceptionally well for a car of its size, engine & transmission -- in both city traffic and on the interstates, and never fails to elicit comments even from complete strangers. When I pay attention to the tach, I can generally get almost 30 mpg in stop and go city traffic, barring a complete traffic jam, and almost 34 mpg on long trips at sustained speeds up to 75 mph if I keep the tach at or under 3000 rpm.
I Like It!
Im a professional photographer and I do a lot of intown driving and sometimes hit the road for business as well. The Scion xB is going to be one of my better buying dicissions. Its really roomy for my equipment and my Bassett Hound. The sound system is awesome. It has a really smooth ride, too. It's so roomy to drive in. I'm 50 years old and I think that it's great!
Release Series 3.0 Envy Green Worth The Wait
It took three months but I finally just received my 5 speed xB Release Series 3.0 in Envy Green, (2,200 only will be made) and it is a great vehicle. This brings back memories of My 1978 Renault Le Car and is even boxier than my aging 1995 Suzuki Sidekick. I am a big fan of small cars that are well designed and Scion has it all figured out. As a "mid-life crisis" vehicle, which this clearly is for me, the xB has many practical design features like 3 seatbelts in the back seat (unlike the Honda Element), exceptional headroom and legroom, extreme affordability, peppy ride, excellent gas mileage, and a much higher "heading turning coefficient" (HTC) than cars 3 times its price.
Now for Something Completely Different
I used to laugh at them until I drove one. I bought one about three weeks later and use it as a commuter car. My older kids fight for it on the weekend, as all thier friends, and stuff, fit comfortably. One of my favorite features, which I didn't quite appreciate at first, is the 360 degree visibility out the windows. No matter where you turn, you can see. Bonus, I'm a big guy and fit comfortably. With the front seat all the way back and leaned, I can sit in the back seat with plenty of leg room. You can't believe how much room is in there until you get inside. I can't find anything to gripe about.
The Great Box
I have always thought the Scion xB was very unique in several ways. First being that the car looks like no other, and that it got really good gas milage. Now that I am a owner of a 2006 xB I really love its ride. I notice several people driving around me looking at the car probably thinking that it has no "ZIP". Oh how they are so wrong. This car has a great "zip" in the beginning. As far as getting the car up beyond the 85 mph its pretty hard, but that is against the law in many states. :( But anyway this car is great. I am 6'1 and I have tons of rooms for me to relax in the front or back seats.
I love my xB
I love my xB. We bought it for the fuel economy and the interior room. This is one of only a few compact vehicles that my 6'4" husband can sit in comfortably.
Ranks right up there for MPG
2 weeks after I bought my 'toaster on wheels', I went on a 1450 mile golfing trip with my golfing bud. Considering the weight of both of us, golf bags and the luggage, about 600 lbs, doing between 70 & 80 MPH through the West Virginia mountains, and running between courses, I averaged 34.5 MPG. Around home I get 36-38 MPG. Great vehicle, lots of room inside and fun to drive. Best purchase I've ever made.
2006 Scion xB
I bought my Scion xB brand new off the showroom floor. I have never had any trouble with it whatsoever. I average about 34 mpg. It still gets looks and questions from people and even though the engine could use a little more horsepower it's still a pleasure to drive and is very reliable. I recommend it to everyone I meet, especially to owners of the Honda Element which only gets about 22 mpg and has suicide doors for those who sit in the back seat. The Scion xB is definitely an awesome, reliable, roomy car that will fulfill anyone's desires for a reliable and roomy car.
Love Your XBox
The car is an all around excellent buy. It gives you good mileage and is very comfortable.
Thinking Outside the Box
This is the best small car I've ever owned. It handles like a sports car, and I've owned many. With the rear seats folded down the cargo area is huge for a car this size. The front and rear seat confort is also great even for a guy my size - I'm not short and skinny. The engine has a fair amount of pull for only being 1.5 litres and I haven't had a problem passing on the freeway using the solid feeling manual transmission. I also like how it looks like nothing else on the road today. I also own an '01 Mustang GT and an '05 Nissan Armada - great vehicles but they both consume copious amounts of gas.
Best Fun since the "60's"
This car is fun and economical. I am in the process of trading in my New Beetle Turbo for my second Scion xB. We are now a 3 xB family, soon to make it 4 xB's in the family.
Cute to the max!
I purchased our Scion as a Christmas present for my 44 year old husband. I drive an 8 cylinder pickup. Needless to say, with the high gas prices, I have pretty well taken over the Scion for trips to town (45 miles away, one way). I also enjoy putting my groceries inside the spacious rear end rather than leaving them in the bed of the truck. Laying the back seat down give a lot of room. With the back seat up, there is still room behind the back seat for a trip to the grocery store. With the special cover, you can hide your purchases from prying eyes behind the back seat. They also have a nice cover for when the seat is down that keeps the back of the seat from being damaged by cargo.
Fantastic Little Car
This car turns heads. I think it was the looks I first noticed. Before I even considered a car in this class, I liked the look of it. I like distinctive cars. Then I drove it, and was sold. This thing is huge amounts of fun to drive. In fact, it's huge in a few ways. Huge fun to drive. Huge room inside. Huge potential for making it *mine*. Huge attitude! And small in others. Small small fuel consumption. Small price tag. Small on the road. Economical? Fun? Cheap? Eye catching? There is very little to not like.
Fun to drive
I traded in my luxury van for better mileage. At first I thought I had made a mistake because I have had vans for 14 years so this was a big jump backwards at first thought. I've driven it for a few days now and I actually like it, the mileage is great and it's fun to drive. Thought this was only for the younger crowd but everyone I see driving it is my age (almost 40) or older. Glad I made the decision to buy a Scion xB I think I'll be real happy when I finally need gas!
Love My xB
I have owned my xB for one month now and I could not be happier with it. It is so fun to drive and is a real head turner. Even my Dad who bought it for me, more because of Toyota's reliability has really started to like the looks of it.
Tardis (bigger inside than outside)
The Scion xB is comfortable, practical, safe, reliable, and a good value. Get in another car afterwards and you feel cramped. Its fuel economy about what Edmunds statistics predict. (A hybrid version would be good.)
My Fun Scion
This is the best car I ever had. People stare at the strange box, but it runs great and has lots of space. I have a bad back but the seats offer good support and I don't get out stiff from riding. I have to be careful about the speed. It has lots of get-up-and-go power and easily cruises at 80 to 90 mph. The only thing missing is a cruise control option. The 4 cyl 16 valve dual OHC engine was borrowed from the Toyota Echo and is smooth and quiet. The 160 watt Pioneer stereo is a joy to play.
