Love my toaster on wheels!
This is a great small car with a lot of extras for a wonderful price! There should be more of these type vehicles instead of the gas sippers out there!
Awesome Car
This is an AWESOME car. My wife and family said I was crazy to buy it. I now laugh at them as I pass the gas station and they are filling up twice a week. The car drives well and handles well also. As the fuel prices are going higher and higher I am so happy I own this cool car.

Exterior Design Flaw
The front and back end designs are poor. The front end drags on anything too high, pulls the front end bumper and grill off very easily. Then, the plastic fasteners break, leaving the front end hanging. Pushed back in, even the wind can pull it off. Dangerous. Should be a recall.
I Love This Car!
I've had this car for 4 months now and absolutely love it. I'm 57 years old and have relatives in their 70s that have no problem getting in and out. One of my sons is 6'7" and can sit in the back seat without his knees touching the front seat even when it's completely extended. Nobodys' head touches the ceiling. It's amazing how much stuff I can haul from the building supply stores. In town I'm getting a little over 29 mpg. On my last trip, one tankful that was soley freeway driving got 36.9 mpg. The ride is a little stiff but it corners like a sportscar. I love this car!
Love It!
I love this vehicle! I had a Jeep before this and loved it for 230,000 miles. I was looking at the Toyota Tacoma when I spotted the xB. I had thought that they were the ugliest thing on the road but when I looked inside I couldn't believe how BIG it was. Then I took it for a test drive and bought it immediately. After three months I still smile when I see it in the driveway (it's sooo cute). The gas mileage isn't quite what they claim but I usually get about 27 mpg, only got 30 once. I love that when two xBs pass each other on the road the owners always wave or give the thumbs up, it's like we are very special vehicle owners.
WOW!
This is my first new car in 19 years. Through extensive research I decided on this vehicle. So far every thing about the vehicle is great. I really love the gas milage. After having had a SUV, the extra savings in gas cost will make the car payments!
What a great car!
So glad I bought this thing before the new one came out (yuck!). It's the best car I've ever had. Fun to drive, gets good mileage, extremely useful to haul large objects, I could go on and on. You can even push the front seat to connect the back and take a nap. This is not a performance vehicle, so don't expect much of that. With the stick, it merges just fine on the freeway. My only gripe is the cheap plastic faux-lowrider crap around the outside of the car. If you want a great little car that's a blast to drive, this is a good choice.
This Is It
There's no denying it. This thing is cool. There is so much you can do to it. I put on Momo rims, a new steering wheel, a different shifter, improved seats, everything Momo, and it looks SWEET. This makes an awesome dub car. Plus, I put a few goodies under the hood, so now it has about 224 hp. I'm not trading this baby for anything
150,000 and still going...
I still love my 2006 Scion xB. It is about to turn 9 years old in a couple of months. I drive it a lot and it still gets about 30 mpg city and 34 highway. I am going to get it painted and hopefully keep it another 9 years. It is very roomy and I use it for my small business. I can't find another one with this much cargo space and I definitely don't want a car payment ever again.
My Friend, the Car
Consumer Reports called the Scion xB 'The Box that Rocks' and it's true! Not only is it Toyota's Energizer Bunny, it's a comfortable, roomy vehicle with inimitable style and ergonomically correct seating that MORE than gets you where you want to go. At first, I felt annoyed when I saw another one on the road. These cars look so unique that you proudly buzz along, deluding yourself into believing that yours is the only one. Now, when I see another 'Box', I feel a sense of tribal attitude and belonging. Options for the xB are awesome, and only serve to enhance the basic design. My Box is named Angus, after Angus Young. He rocks the road! It sounds crazy, but I talk to him.
Deceivingly functional
If you are a musician, DJ, or just have stuff to shuffle around -- get one. I purchased new in late 06 and got one of the last off the ship from Japan. Like I tell all who ask - the XB drives like a cross between a golf cart and a go-cart. You sit upright and even if over 6 feet -- plenty of headroom. I've used it as my commuter and while no powerhouse, it is great for getting in and out of traffic with the 5 speed. It's also been a chuckwagon for a Boy Scout camp trip - the gate flips up for rain coverage! Get Perelli P4s and you will enjoy every mile.

Love my new Scion xB
When I first viewed this car (Scion XB) it seemed to be designed for the 20 something crowd. It was aimed at the same demographic as the Honda Element. However,it seemed to me that there were many more 30, 40, 50, and 60 somethings driving the Elements that I saw. So I decided to test drive an Element and fell in love with it. It was a short romance, because then I decided to test drive a Scion xB. That was it. This car was $5,000 cheaper than a comparably equipped Element, got 10 miles per gallon better mileage, and was more fun to drive. I'm not in Toyota's planned demographic for an xB either. I'm a 71 year old retired college professor.
Looks are Deceiving...
Many of you probably think of the xB what I used to think before I got to really know one. Many of the same thoughts of claustrophobia and public humiliation crossed my mind when I first saw it. Then one of my friend's bought one, truly a day to remember. This thing had so much headroom, legroom, and cargo room in such a small package it was astounding (and a bit dumbfounding initially). I have always like Toyotas for their reputation of build quality and reliability, this box is no exception. It is surpisingly quick (mostly due to its low curb weight) in the 5-speed variant and a joy to drive (mine isn't stock though). It has lots of handy features and plenty of aftermarket support.
Absolutely great vehicle to own
I purchased my 2006 Scion Xb from a fellow on Craigslist in January of 2014. It had 133,000 and was in good mechanical condition. Since then I've put another 32,00 worry free miles with no major breakdowns. I've only replaced minor wear items like the tires, oil and spark plugs. It's a great car and will make you very happy. The gas mileage is good, the A/C is ice cold, the inside is huge and maintenance costs are very low. The only bad thing I can think of is the ride isn't the greatest, but it's not terrible. Unfortunately, I was involved in an accident that totaled my poor Scion so now I'm looking for another one!

xB squared
Just put in 1K after 3 weeks of owner ship. And no regrets at all this car is it for people who is concious about MPG and needs an all around vehicle. I bought this car as a commuter and running errands on weekends and so far it has been great. Interior materials and design are top notch. Great commanding view when stuck in traffic and back seat space is enormous. Could not have bough a more suitable car for my daily needs. Stereo is great and it's fun to drive.
2006 Scion xB
This car is awesome. Great on gas, fun to drive. Acceleration could definitely be better. This car is great around town and on the interstate.
The Perfect Vehicle
I saw these cars before, but I thought it was junk - a big box usually means junky, burning of fuel, bad performance and expensive. I never wanted to know about it. A week ago I went to a Toyota dealer looking for a small wagon. They showed me a Scion xA. I got home and did some research about Scion and found the xB. Man, that junky box was exactly my dreamed car! A wagon for moving my stuff, small outside, roomy inside, fantastic MPG, with an incredible low price. It is very easy to rule out all other vehicles: SUVs and vans are too big and too gas hungry; sedans cannot take large stuff; other small wagons (including xA) are too small inside. Nothing else is this perfect.
Great fuel economy
Excellent car. Lots of room, manual transmission has good pickup. Strong handling. Very comfortable on long trips. A lot of leg room for rear passengers.
The black box
Roomy inside and great on gas. Only one minor repair that my son took care of... runs like a dream. Will drive it till it dies and then buy another one!

2006 Scion xB
The 2006 Scion xB is a wonderful auto. I came from a much larger one and would not trade back. Every aspect of this car is better than I expected. I love the positioning of the instrument panel and think it would be a good trend for other auto makers. Its gas mileage is fabulous. It is very roomy with lots of headroom, great cargo space, and seats that go down in a flash without any struggle. The price is more than fair!
Had to Have It
Go buy the Scion xB. You know you want one. Here's the deal: this is THE best built, no frills (unless you upgrade) big car hiding in a samll car's body. It's tiny on the outside, but so spacious inside. True, you're not going to win any drag races in this thing, but it will get you to work, the grocery store, out on the town etc.. for the next 10 years! It drives great and is soooo good on the gas. Plus it looks cool. Go buy one. I'm going to get another for the wifey.
What A Car
1st time a wrote a review on any vehicle, but I am so happy with this car I had to write a review. Very spacious interior, cool looking, quiet ride, dependable, can't say one bad thing about the car, wonder why Clark Howard drives one and likes it. You will not be disappointed with this car.
Pros and cons of Scion xB
When I first saw the Scion xB I thought it was a cheap and not that good looking of a car. Then the guy at the dealer told me not to put down the car untill you drive it, so I did and ended driving it home. I have been driving my Scion for four mounths and now I love it. It offers plenty of space, a good stereo system and the comfort of higher priced cars. I also love the fact that you can customize the car to however you want it. This car has been a good investment for me.
The Best
I did a lot of research before I bought this car, and I have no regrets! I bought the 5-speed manual. We live in snow country and it handles like a dream with studded tires. There is a ton of room inside. I like the look of the car. I have averaged 32 mpg from the start. The only thing I missed was a center arm rest but hey, with the over all quality and gas mileage that's not a biggie. Yes I know I can buy a center arm rest, but thought it a bit pricey. I had a PT Cruiser for many years, and did not give it a second thought when I drove away in my xB. I don't feel this car lacks power but then, I don't feel the need to drive at 70 mph, 55 mph is just fine.
Love My xB
My xB is a great car. I have been in the mountains with it. It hugs the turns like a sports car. It gets great gas mileage, too. It has easy access for my grandma to get in and out plus it is real roomy in back. I am always talkin' to people about the car whenever I stop. I should be sellin' them.
Fun Vehicle
I look forward to driving my Scion xB. It has an excellent heater and a/c. It only needs better interior lighting. It's a little noisy at highway speeds. I would like to see a diesel engine in the future
2006 Scion sB
Here's why I purchased the Scion sB: I'm 6ft tall and I have plenty of room. The rear seat has plenty of room for the kids. It gets 35mpg and it never breaks. Not ready for a Corolla or a minivan. It has performed beautifully in these areas. One of the main reasons I bought the 2006 was the gas mileage. The 06 has enough power and performs really well at the pump!
Will run it until the wheels fall off!!
Toyota, Lexus. and Scion are made by the same company. That being said, you know the quality that you get. I purchase my from brother at 140,000 mile on 2021. one year later it has 165,000 and running strong. I do Pest Control and this is a way I can save gas and views due to the box. I installed a CAI, Weapon R Header, and Tanabe Medallion Muffler. Sound much better with a bit of power. I know its not a race car, but 103HP need all the help it can get. I was getting 30-34mpg. Will see what gains after a week. ( UPDATE ) Also removed CAT for better mpg now getting 35-40mpg. Will run it until the wheels fall off.

My Toasty is the Best!
I've had my Toasty for a week now, but have wanted her for a year. I test drove Scions (as well as other vehicles) and researched them extensively. I LOVE driving her. She's Salsa Red Pearl. The gas mileage is unbelievable and the room she has is awesome as well. I love how these cars come equipped with really cool standard features that you have to pay extra for on other vehicles. She is so much fun to drive and I love how other Scion xB drivers always wave to me. I wanted to get the Yakima racks as an option but the dealer told me the racks had to be port-installed. I installed them myself and it was a bit tricky but I recommend it for the savings vs. financing them with Scion.
The Little Workhorse
I needed a car for small deliveries and sales calls. I did not want this car, but it made sense financially. I keep very detailed mileage records and it never matters if you are highway or city it is always between 29.5 and 33 miles per gallon. The A/C matters little to my overall mileage, even with the A/C running. I have 80000 miles on it and only one small issue with a switch. It is exactly as it is promoted for an inexpensive vehicle and I recommend this car mightily.
I Love This Car!
Let me say it again! I love this car. I paint and finish woodwork for a living 90 miles from home. I put on lots of miles! Everything that fit in the box of my F-150 fits in my new paintbox except for the 6 foot ladder. (I haven't tried yet) I now pay a lot less for gas. The day I picked it up i had bought 5 old chairs, the salesman laughed. I said I haul lots of junk all the time might as well start the first day, they all fit with room to spare. You have lots of people stare, strangers want to know what it is, if they can look in it. It is a conversation piece. The only negative I have about the car is that on gravel roads it lets in a lot of real fine dust into the car.
xB Experience
As a commuter vehicle this is the best vehicle I have found. I am above average in size and needed a vehicle with the best overall fuel economy. I averaged 33 mpg overall with this car. I drove it daily back and forth 50 miles per day to work. I would be driving it now however my employer provided me with a company car. It was low cost to maintain and on fuel. It is nice looking vehicle for a box and served the purpose it was purchased for. I would highly recommend the xB to anyone looking for a low cost, reliable, fuel efficient vehicle. If they happen to be 6'9" tall they can drive in comfort also.
I Love My Box!
This is the car to own, I love it! I bought it to have a reliable car to get back and forth to work with. Now that I have it I don't think I will ever want to get rid of it. For the price and standard features you get, I was simply amazed. $15,200 out the door (that's tax tags and everything!) I do not recommend getting options from the dealer. The extras are so overpriced (armrest, leather steering wheel..etc) unless you want them rolled up in the loan amount, get them off eBay from a reputable seller. I've done a lot of things to my box to personalize it, but just the standard car is great! I didn't like these when I first saw them, but once I went to the dealership I feel in love!
Scion Xb is a FUN car
This is a FUN car! Consumer Reports indicated that it has too much road noise. Mine is quiet. I think, I'm actually getting better gas mileage than its stated 30 city / 38 highway. It has plenty of interior room. I just wish it had came with a roof rack for carying longer items like ladders or plywood. I think anyone would enjoy this vehicle. It looks like a vehicle out of the future.
Good stuff
I bought this car early 2004. It runs great i have driven from Los Angeles to Denver Colorado. Lots of fun! No problems, A couple of trim and finish issues but besides that everything with this car is GREAT. I have the custom intake and exhaust. The only downside of this car is no pick up! However there is enough power to get through the Rockies in the snow without a problem.
All Boxed Up
The Scion xB is a great car. I bought it to replaced my leased '03 Highlander V6 which was also a great vehicle. This box gets great gas mileage and is fun to drive. Even though it is low on power, the 5-speed makes it more interesting to drive. I will add an intake, exhaust, and headers to spice things up. A turbo might come later. Its space is great, audio is great, and it is very inexpensive to maintain. One thing to note is the A/C system seems a little weak for this small car.
Old folks can drive the Box too!
We own 2004 Vovlo XC90 SUV as primary vehicle. Both vehicles have anti-lock brakes, roll-over control (VSC), and excellent, proven drivetrain/safety records (Toyota). Scion beats our Volvo SUV for; gas mileage (35 vs 21), comfort/room, standard features, visability, utility, and fun factor to drive. I can buy 3 of these for 1 Volvo SUV. Four older couples on a recent trip told me it reminds them of the VW bug when it first came out (a car ahead of it's time). I bought this car for business travel. (I'm in my 40s) My wife said she would rather drive the Scion than her $45,000 SUV. It's our family car of choice now. Thanks, Scion! Long live the Box!
"Best buy for a lower budget."
If you are running a "tight budget", this is your vehicle. It gets great gas mileage ($20 dollars will fill up your tank and have you running for almost a week). It's incredibly spacious (whether for cargo purposes or traveling with a "good amount" of people, this is your mini U-haul). It has trendy looks, the interior design is comfortable and practical (speedometer, gas and other engine related devices are within "driving view", you do not lose focus on the road while glancing at you speed).
It is a box on wheels -supper reliable - great MPG
2/23/25 - just under 200K still running strong. Body has a few minor rust spots. Changing the oil on the regular schedule along with brakes and tires. Still has the original clutch. Love this car. 2/23/23 - almost 200k and running strong oil changes, brakes, and tires done as needed. Serving me well. 8/22/22 - still running strong with no issues. Just a perfect basic car. 2/21/22 Now have 160K and going strong. Great car that seems like it will run forever. I have been great on oil changes and basic maintenance. If you want a car that is reliable, gets great gas mileage, has room for plenty of stuff, and is a little different looking then this is the vehicle for you. I bought mine in 2007 (1 year old) with 15000 miles on it. I now have 150000 miles on it and I have had almost zero problem. I have been good about routine maintenance, oil changes under 4500 miles, brakes a couple of time, and a few light bulb replacements. Over all it has been a great car for me.

PERFECT CAR
This has been one of the best vehicles I have ever owned. I am so happy with its roominess and fun drivability, Oh and I only paid only $14,000 for it. It's worth every penny.

throw away car
Ok I'm not going to say whats bad because I will be here for hours. I'm just gonna say whats good reliability and mpg and that's it.
Lousy Car
The Scion xB has no power and is not aerodynamic. This does not allow to get better gas mileage. The Toyota Echo engine is very weak and this car has no acceleration whatsoever. Using it as rolling advertising by having it wrapped is OK, but I do not enjoy driving it.
Avoid this car
We purchased this car in '06. I will not ever buy another XB. We had one expense a year ago that ran over $600 to fix. Currently, we have a leaking water pump - another $500. This is a lemon! We had a slight bump up a year ago. A car bumped into us. The whole front bender had to be replaced. We didn't have to pay for this but it has made me realize how unsafe this car is. I hate driving it on the interstate. This will be our last XB. I told my husband we should have purchased another Camry.
I am in Love with my X-Box
I get 35 mpg in my Scion xB! That's right. I love it. It is so much fun to drive and I get major looks around town. The kids love it too. The standard features are awsome and the satilite radio is cool. My dealer gave me Sirus free for 9 months and threw in a free cruise control!
My first new car
After driving old Subarus, Hondas and Toyotas all my life this is my first new car. Lots of room, quiet, great turning radius, economical, fun to drive.
Ohhh Yes!
I bought my Black Sand Pearl xB two months ago. I had researched it on the net for a long time and was impressed. On a whim I went and test drove it. That was it! It was so much fun to drive, I must have been grinning ear to ear. Bought it right then. Put on cold air induction, 6 CD stereo, security system, and a beautiful red & black leather steering wheel. Later put on 7-spoke alloy wheels. I love my car, I find myself just "going for a ride" it is so much fun. Great car! Cheap, well made, efficient easy on gas and my insurance payment dropped. Of course it is easy to park and people come across parking lots to look at it and talk to me. My two German Shepherds love it too.
Gotta Love the Box!
We're an active couple in our 50's and were looking for a spacious, gas conserving car that could also carry our kayaks and bikes. We love the Scion xB. We should have the Kayak rack put on this week. Our bikes just do make it inside if their front wheels are removed. We are considering mounting them on-top. It's responsive, and to me has plenty of power. I ordered through the dealership and it took 70 days for my car to arrive. I got the 2006 polar-white, 5-speed with armrest and cruise-control. That was it. The total cost was just under $16,000. The reviews on this site are right on the money to me when describing this car. I read them before I test drove and purchased. I only have 200 miles on mine so far but I am extremely happy.
Made the Right Choice
After visting this site for months researching all of my options, I finally went with the Scion xB and I am totally sure I made the right decision. The Element was big, clunky and pricy. The Chevy HHR was silly looking and well as a Chevrolet. The only real contender was the Mazda3 wagon, and this beat it in catagories I was looking at. It has more interior room and drove much better. Plus it's cheaper. It sits high (er than my Saturn SC2) and feels incredibly safe. You honestly can not beat this car in value. It comes with, pretty much, everything you could want standard. One thing that some hold against this car is the 1.5 4-cylinder motor, but trust me it'll move on the on-ramps and at lights.
