Under the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) offers taxpayers a Used Clean Vehicle Tax Credit equal to 30% of the sale price up to a maximum credit of $4,000 for the purchase of a used plug-in electric or hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. Beginning January 1, 2024, Clean Vehicle Tax Credits may be initiated and approved at the point of sale at participating dealerships registered with the IRS. Dealers will be responsible for submitting Clean Vehicle Tax Credit information to the IRS. Buyers are advised to obtain a copy of an IRS "time of sale" report, confirming it was submitted successfully by the dealer. Not every version of the vehicle models will necessarily qualify. Please check with the dealer/seller to determine the eligibility of your specific vehicle.

For the vehicle to qualify:

• Price cannot exceed $25,000.
• Need to verify the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
• Must be at least two model years older than the current calendar year in which the vehicle was purchased.
• Must be sold through a dealership, private sales not permitted.
• Not have already been transferred after August 16, 2022, to a qualified buyer.

For individuals to qualify:

• Must meet income eligibility, depending on modified adjusted gross income (AGI) and tax filing status.
• Must not be the first owner of the qualifying vehicle.
• Has not been allowed a credit under this section for any sale during the 3-year period ending on the date of the sale of such vehicle.
• Purchased for personal use, not a business, corporation or for resale.

The Off-Peak Charging Electric Vehicle Rebate program through Efficiency Maine offers a Moderate-Income Rebate of $1,500 or a Low-Income Rebate of $3,500 to income qualified Maine residents. Offer available for the purchase of an eligible used battery electric vehicle from participating Maine car dealerships. Mail-in rebates are also available for eligible vehicles purchased directly from a manufacturer that does not have a licensed franchised dealer in Maine (eg. Polestar, Rivian, or Tesla). Leased vehicles are not eligible. To qualify:

• Must purchase an off-peak charger that will be activated (connected to Wi-Fi) and installed at Maine residence within 90 days of vehicle purchase.
• Receive valid income eligibility verification letter from Efficiency Maine prior to vehicle purchase.
• Final purchase price of vehicle must be no more than $40,000.
• Model years 2018 and older are not eligible.
• Vehicle must be registered in the State of Maine.
• Applicants are required to retain ownership and registration in the State of Maine for at least 36 months.
• Previous participation in Efficiency Maine programs may affect eligibility.

• For the $1,500 Moderate-Income Rebate, applicants must meet adjusted gross income (AGI) requirements.
• For the $3,500 Low-Income Rebate, applicants must demonstrate participation in select state or federal assistance programs.

Efficiency Maine through the Off-Peak Charger Discount program is offering a $300 instant discount on Emporia-brand, off-peak chargers to Maine residents. To qualify for this rebate:

• Chargers must be installed in Maine.
• Chargers must be connected to Wi-Fi and set up with the mobile app within 6 months of purchase.
• Discounts are limited to two per residential or business address in Maine.

Additional Information:

• The discounted charger operates normally during off-peak hours and automatically pauses charging during peak hours.
• Chargers must be purchased within 60 days of when the discount code was issued.
• Chargers purchased through this program are not eligible to participate in any other Efficiency Maine program.
