Everything is relative; depends on what you may have been driving. I have been driving this 2006 Odyssey Touring for just over a year. Previously I drove a Lincoln Town Car for 10 years. Don't know if there is a better "ride" than with the Town Car, BUT I have not lost much with the Odyssey. I purchased it 5 years old, as $40K is entirely too much to pay for a "new" car which quickly becomes a "used" car. This model was clean and in excellent condition. I put in new spark plugs & changed the timing belt, & had to purchase a spare tire, as the former owner changed out the run-flat tires (thankfully). ONLY complaint: MPG is like 15/22, when rated at 20/28.

Honda Odyssey is excellent minivan

I researched and test drove every minivan on the market including the kia, Hyundai, dodge and toyota. I also spoke with many minivan owners. The features that were most important to me were the flexibility to configure the seats different ways because I have 3 small children in car seats. I also wanted a minivan that was somewhat luxurious as I was not thrilled about the necessity of buying a minivan. I am so pleased with the Honda. It is easy to drive, easy to maneuver the seats and I love it! We have made family trips and it has been great.

We bought our 2006 Odyssey EX-L new in 2005 and have 160K on it. There were several minor recalls that the dealer took care of no problem. The only recurrent problem we have had is with the power steering pump which had to be replaced twice (it was also under recall and we weren’t charged either time). Otherwise, the car runs great and has plenty of power and acceleration even in the mountains. After 12 years I have not noticed a decrease in performance. This van is FWD only so slick roads can be tricky. We have found that Blizzak tires provide the best traction in the snow. The ground clearance is average so I don’t recommend taking this vehicle on backcountry forest roads or off road, but good dirt roads are fine. The inside of the van is huge and easily fits 7 adults plus 1 child in the middle second row. The seats are modular making it easy to carry cargo, groceries, bikes, coolers, tires, sports gear, camping gear, hunting equipment, etc. I have a couple of complaints for the manufacturer. Although the AC/heater works fine, the programming is weird and not user friendly. It takes a while to figure out how to work it. Several of the light bulbs on the instrument panel and dash have burned out and replacing them requires major disassembly of the interior and costs alot. We have learned to live without them. There is no Bluetooth or auxiliary inputs into the speakers so CD and radio are your only options for this year.

We bought ours new at the end of 2005. It now has 240,000 miles on it. This vehicle was always serviced at the dealership. the only things that have gone wrong on it were a minor issue with the AC, and a high pressure line on the power steering. The power steering was sometimes noisy, but it has never not worked. The only issue I have with the van is that if you do not rotate the tires at least every 5000 miles, they will become noisy. Other than that, you really cannot buy a better minivan. Despite the high miles, I have complete confidence int he van. We just drove it over 1000 miles for vacation, and it turned 240,000 miles on that trip. Last summer with over 220,000 miles we went over 13 hrs from home, into Canada. Now being down to only 1 kid at home, we will sell it. We just bought a Pilot to replace the van.

This van has been absolutely fantastic. I have never had mechanical problems of any kind. The power sliding doors have worked consistently and I've never had a problem. Couldn't say that about the Ford Minivan I owned previously. Great ride, excellent mileage - average mid to high 20's. Very reliable. I bought it new in 2006 and I can see driving it for another 5 or 6 years. Design and quality is great. I highly recommend this vehicle.

Purchased my 2006 Honda brand new off the lot. I have had the van for 8 years and put on 75K miles. The first 50K miles were great. No issues and then the expense: Engine Mount $1,000, Sliding Door repair $350, Axle/boot issue $600, A/C repair $450, steering box $250 and not to mention putting on my third set of tires at 75K miles. Normal repairs such as brakes, fluids etc but to be expected.

What happened to Honda's reliability

Bought this van to replace a worn out Chevy Venture that we had driven for over 7 years. We went with Honda for the 8-passenger option and the assumed reliability we've heard about Honda's hoping to make it another 7 years with this van. Within 7 days we started having issues: transmission catches, road vibrations, sliding door rattles and creaks, anti-lock brake noises. You name it. I am sorely disappointed that this will be my vehicle for the next 5-7 years, especially when I read all the other similar complaints about this vehicle. Who'd have thought a 1999 Chevy Venture would turn out to be my dream car?

Strong motor, weak brakes and transmission.

Weirdo van with VCM, runs on 3, 4, or 6 cylinders, to get the MPG up. The motor is strong. The transmission is prone to clogging and when it does it can downshift HARD at highway speed, and will need a rebuild. Drive with the Overdrive OFF, unless on the highway at speed, and get better lifespan from your transmission. And normal operation of the transmission is odd shifting, get used to it, it is not planetary gears inside. The brakes are under powered. Lots of suspension bushings, to go bad, for a soft ride. The alternator is expensive for OEM and aftermarket alternators will flash the red battery dash light due to the ELD noticing low amps when the ECM shuts off the alternator to save MPG. The solution is to always drive with the headlights on if you want to use after market alternators. It's a heavy vehicle and gets better than 20 MPG in mixed driving due to the weird "tricks" Honda engineered into it.

My daughter bought this car thinking Honda was a quality product. What a huge disappointment. It is hard to be happy with a product when the company put out a lemon. You can read many many complaints about the transmissions on these things. Motor mounts very expensive needed replacing. Paint fell off on half of car, what a piece of junk. Yes her transmission went out. When she bought it used from a Honda dealer she noticed it had a small drip of transmission fluid and asked the dealer to fix it. What they did not tell her there is no fixing it. Torque converter problems bearing problems. Another transmission she had to pay for it and it still has problems. Yes, Honda, I will never buy another. I know my daughter will never buy another and this was her second. Update... problems with sliding door , paint falling off hood,

An Odyssey in Disappointment

In general, I have found a lot of the plastic parts on the car to be total garbage-- broken cup holders, broken cup holder doors, broken vents, broken shade holders, etc. The splash shield under the engine compartment (made of plastic of course) fell off because of unreliable plastic fasteners. Door moldings fell off. The power sliding doors are finicky and have been in for service multiple times. The drivers side windows safety stops the window from rolling up after ordering at the drive-thru. The dashboard lights behind the overly complicated HVAC panel stopped working at about 5000 miles. The flip down seats in the back fail to reconnect to the floor when flipped back up. This leads to a very dangerous situation where a person sitting in them can be thrown backwards during hard acceleration or a rear end impact. The rear wheel bearings went out on both sides of the car at 50,000 miles-- $300 each. The power steering pump growled from day one and would fail to 'power assist' at inopportune times. It finally began leaking and had to be replaced. I'm not a big fan of the plastic lenses over the headlights that 'film-over' and have to be 'restored'-- a process that takes several hours. We ordered a Honda accessory cassette player that was installed by the dealer, but it has always looked like it didn't belong-- however, it works fine when we've used it. The extra cost luggage rack didn't come with crossbars-- but for the price it should have. And last but not least my beautiful blue minivan has paint flaking off all over it, which makes it look as pathetic as it has been all of its life. I know there are a lot of satisfied Odyssey owners out there-- we must have bought the lemon. I've owned 3 different Honda Accords and never had these kinds of issues with them.

I am VERY disappointed with my purchase..I bought a 2006 Odyssey touring edition fully loaded from the original owner who had it maintained 100% BY HONDA at their dealership per Honda recommendations. (i verified all of it and saw all the reports before i bought it) I bought it with 139K, transmission went out at 140K...there goes 6K+to fix it. Tried to get honda to help with repairs since its a WELL KNOWN occurance...of course they WILL NOT HELP, if your out of your 3/yr 36K warranty your screwed... Honda doesnt give a crap about their customers once out of warranty.... I even had to pay SHIPPING on the parts every time something needed to be fixed, screw you honda!

This was our third Honda Odyssey but most disappointing. Our favorite model was 2004. Have had brakes checked 3 times, rotors turned and replaced, and brake pads replaced twice. Run-flat tires are incredibly expensive and wear fast. Price of tires and installation - what a shock! On third set after 80,000 miles. Also, after a few months, the seal around the front windshield began to whistle loudly at high speeds, and it continues to get worse with age. The biggest improvement has been with the engine and fuel economy. The sound system, which would have been quite fancy in 1985, has been a real dud for the price. This will probably be our last Odyssey.

Drove Toyota, Chrysler and Nissan minivans before trying Honda's; as soon as we sat in an Odyssey, we were amazed at the quality and comfort of the interior. Carlike ride (plenty of power) convinced us. Ample space for kids, luggage, grandparents. I've fit 3 square bales of hay and 6 50-lb bags of feed into the back (with both kids comfortably seated!). VTEC engine is cool (and effective!). Keyless entry and sliding doors are a lifesaver. Kids like the dvd player, but the wireless headsets only worked once. Difficult to get into the 3rd row with child seats in the 2nd. Have replaced tires and battery once. Selling ours, only because we live on a rough unpaved road and need clearance.

I purchased this fan new in 2006 because it was a Honda and I wanted a vehicle to care for properly and last 10 years. We drive about 12k a year, so this isn't much to ask. Its a noisy stiff ride, tires don't last longer than 25k, and we've had issues that you wouldn't expect from Honda. New front axles, AC problems, lots of rattles and noises, Its a nice looking fan, quality materials inside, good paint, no complaints there.

We're a one vehicle family, 2 kids, and dog. Leased new in '06 after handing in returning our '02 Civic. The need for a reliable, spacious vehicle was obvious. We went with the LX because we didn't need the bells and whistles. We've made good use of the space - golf clubs, hockey equip, and bikes, and of course many trips to the Home Depot. Overall very pleased with performance, ride, reliability. As a daily driver, putting on 50 plus km a day, it's been good. Snow tires on it for the long winters, and it rides well. Breaks needed work much earlier than expected (45,000 km), but she's a heavy van (no civic). Been looking at 'used' vans too but, not impressed, we'll stick with what we got!

I just bought a 2006 after driving a 2000 Odyssey for 125,000 miles. No problems to speak of with the old one, so this decision was easy. Nice redesign and much more comfortable ride and interior than old one. As far as complaints on gas go, these are large vehicles and they are not gas mileage champs. If you are getting 20 avg you should be happy. Overall a fantastic vehicle.

2006 Honda Odyssey worst than any car i have owned

Do not buy a 2006 Honda Odyssey. Read the reviews and purchase a different vehicle. We purchased our 2006 EX-L new from our local delership in Dec 2005. THe first few years we enjoyed car with good handling, comfortable, reasonable gas mileage. As the car became 4 or 5 years old we started having reliability problems such as rear motor mount, power door motors, AC compressor and Evaporator, Brake Master cylinder, Power seteering pump. Also from the first set of tire till today, we average about 25k miles per set of tires, regardless of brand, treadwear warranty, having them rotated, and periodically having alignment checked. Fast forward to today at 160k miles and we have replaced the 2nd power steering pump, 1st alternator (not too bad), 2 starteres (the first remanufactured starter failed quickly). During our thanksgiving road trip Nov 2016 our transmission decided it had had enough. The tansmission was taken care of much bettern than most with transmission fluid change by the dealership a every 30k miles. THis service apparently allowd us to drive 168k miles before its days are through (and stuck out of state). Quotes for replacement used transmission and rebuilt transmissions from H&A or Jasper will essentially equal the market value of the odyssey today. Most likely we will be offering it for part....

I drove my new Odyssey from Florida to Seattle & back & many miles since & LOVE it. It drives like a really nice car. My Dodge Caravan drove more like a truck & without as many nice features. I love all of the controls on the steering wheel. Cruise control is great. We had one problem when it was brand new with a leak in the glazing around the windshield, but otherwise it has been fabulous -- 35,000 miles later. Adult back seat passengers have commented on how roomy it is & how nice the ride feels.

I bought this brand new and expecte to get a long time out of a Honda with few hassels. So many recalls, so many repairs! I replaced the tires every year because of uneven wear - dealership never seems to be able to fix the problem. AC has gone, breaks have gone, bearings have gone, power doors dont open properly, radiator has gone, the list goes on and on. I figure in the last 12 mths alone I have spent 5grand in repairs. Parts are always expensive. All problems have been "out of warrenty coverage" according to dealer. Just not like my old civic or 4runner. Saving for a Subaru or Toyota!

I bought my Odyssey new in 2006. First 4 years, everything was perfect. The last 4 years a money pit. First thing that went wrong was a cracked rear motor mount; apparently Honda put some kind of electrical piece with that part, making the repair be over $1000. I have gone through several batteries, way before their time. DVD player stopped working. Window screen clips break easily. My most recent repair was a new alternator, and now I have a whining noise that comes and goes, probably power steering pump. I really expected more from Honda, and was hoping to get at least more years out of it, now I am shopping for a SUV, not even gonna look at the Pilot.

It's a pretty decent vehicle, although we miss the comfort of our Chrysler LXI. The Chrysler was quieter and drove more like a car. The brakes in the Honda and other safety features are far superior though. The two things that just frost me are the fact that the sticker mileage was let's just say -- inaccurate. Yea, I know 'your mileage may vary' but I expect to be able to at least compare these numbers with other vehicles. We're getting 15 in the city and 18 on the highway with no execptional demand on the car! That's less than my gas guzzling neighbor's Suburban! I brought it to Honda's attention and they said 'your mileage may vary

We really like the car, its roomy, drives nice, cool design, lots of cup holders, but this car is always under repair which is really annoying. Since we had it (4 yrs now) we've had to: 1) Run flats wore out at (and every ) 20K. ($1500 each time) 2) automatic doors had spring popped out (3) rear engine mount had to be replaced ($800) 4) alignment was off ($100) 5) DVD system sometimes shows blank screen (we had to eject it several times for it to work. This is the most amount of maintenance I had to do for a car under 60K miles.

I read a posting on 9/7/2006 about blotchy silver pearl paint on their Odyssey. I too have the same color and noticed the same thing on my van. Only when you view the van on a bright sunny day and at an angle that you can see the blotches. I also went back to the dealer to complain and they told me that it's very common with silver cars. They even showed me 3 other new vans on the lot and sure enough, they are all the same. But, I don't see the problem with my neighbors 2005 Sienna also in Silver. I am wondering if it has something to do with the pearls in the Honda paint. Otherwise I am very happy with the van. Wish that the gas mileage would be better, getting 17mpg city.

The van was nothing too special. The wireless head phone have never worked. The power steering pump is load most of the time. The road noise is load. The sound system is just average. This van will get stuck in 2 inches of snow! The real problem came at 80K. The engine light came on and the engine lost power. I thought that maybe we may have had a clogged fuel filter or something of that nature (I wish). One of the spark plugs broke off and fell into the engine and ruined it. $6000 dollars to fix it. Not under warranty! What happened to Honda? So disappointed I will never buy another.

I needed to buy 4 new tires after less than 2 yrs. The battery needed to be replaced and now I am hearing a whistling noise whenever I step on the brake. Now, the backside of the passenger side is falling apart and they tried to blame it on my kids. I took it to be fixed on 10-10-08 and now, it is 11-11-08 and I had to go back and get it fixed again. What is up with that? I am realizing that after 2 yrs. Honda Odyssey tends to fall apart. After 2 yrs, imagine that? Most people are not done paying for the van then.

I had lots of problems with this van. I bought this van for more room and dvd player for my children. I owned the CRV and loved it. I had to replace tires and the battery. Hate the lights do not auto shut off in the inside or head lights. I have young children that turn on lights and get out. The dvd player broke had to get new one put in. The small drawer above floor broke the tracks fell right off. The middle storage is hard to use because of the reaching in. Most important it is horrible in the snow. I live in Michigan and have had many small front wheel cars that drive better. I am on this website because I'm looking to trade this in.

Disappointed in Honda

We decided to try Honda after hearing for years about the wonderful driving experience and quality. That has not been our experience. The transmission in our 2006 Odyssey needs to be replaced at slightly more than 60,000 miles. Luckily, we purchased the extended warranty for this vehicle! Other complaints: the road noise is too loud, the steering pump is loud, the CD player has never worked properly, and the handling on wet or snow covered roads is absolutely horrible. Some features that we have enjoyed include the entertainment system, fold down rear seats, and maintenance minder system.

Bought what I thought was the best minivan on the market in '06. Huge disappointment. Gas mileage is horrible. 14.5 average around suburbs; 20 on highway. Can hit the rated 25 mpg on highway but only if driving 65, lightly loaded, completely flat surface. Very under-engineered vehicle. Doesn't stop well and Michelin PAX tires wear out very quickly. Needed new front brakes and tires at 33k miles, and we are not hot rodders. I have 76k miles on my BMW and still have original set of brakes w/25k left. Only bright side is that it's a good people hauler; comfortable with lots of room for cargo. But I will never buy another large Honda. They only know how to make small cars.

102,000 Miles and Still Like New

My wife and I bought our Honda used in 2008. I agree with some of the comments. My wife loves it and it's a solid van. Mileage ranges but we get 17-18 in town and 22-26 on the highway. A lot depends on the wind and load. So far 102,000 and we have one repair. One coil went out about 500 miles ago and the back shocks need replacing. It's due for a timing belt as well at about $500. All I can say is that this is by far the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. The interior is way ahead of a Dodge. We will probably buy another one when it reaches 175,000 or about 3-years. Great van and great for road trips with the kids.

This is the third Honda Odyssey we've had and by far the best!! It drives like a luxury car. My kids love the bigger DVD w/ surround sound and built in sun visors in the second row.

We have owned this car for 3 yrs. Bought it new. Am a stay at home mom and have not driven it much but in 3 yrs. we have had the brake pads replaced once under warranty and now they are grinding AGAIN at 33,000 and the dealership wants us to pay saying a 25,000 mile repair is normal. We own another car and in 100,000 miles have never replaced the pads. BE FOREWARNED ABOUT THESE BRAKE PROBLEMS. I am now going to contact Corp. and see what response I get.

*at the time of this release - this has been the definitive minivan for the market segment. I tend to pull up to intersections with multiple Odyssey in line which doesn't bother me because I can feel comfortable knowing I've selected the best available option for my money. If you find yourself on the fence on deciding whether to go with the Sienna or the Honda which I did; I have no regrets with this car. The fit an finish just far exceed all other minivans in this segment and this has been one of the few rare purchases in my life that I've not regretted.

I purchased this car new and put on 69K miles before trading it in today. It was great for hauling around children and provided a comfortable ride and plenty of cargo space. Now the downside: lousy gas mileage (13 in town/22 hwy), on my 3rd power steering pump, my alternator recently failed and was replaced by Honda for $600, rear sliding door opening/closing mechanism failed last year, battery and brakes were replaced often, constant loud & jolting popping when turning at low speeds (cv joint issue?) and a host of other issues amounting to significant repair costs. I am happy to be rid of this money pit! My past Hondas have been great but not this model and year.

I used to own Honda motorcycles back in the 1970s. They were wonderful. So I thought this van would be the same. I was wrong. This thing is a gas pig (I'm getting 19, with a light foot). It has also been in the shop twice. It is ponderous. Get this: For an extended stay in the shop, I was 'forced' to rent a Chevy Tahoe. It got the same or better mileage, it drives better and, heck, it can at least tow my Honda when it breaks down in the future. I think I'll buy an SUV next time. Of course, then I'll have to endure the sneers of my environmental friends, who seem to forget that this whale of a minivan (4000 lbs) is no fuel-sipper either. Bye-bye, Honda!

This van is fun to drive with a ton of features. It is like owning a sports car that hauls a lot of people. The radio is amazing with a six disc changer. The down side is it cannot get through snow. If there is more than an inch of snow, this van slides, spins and is not comforting to drive. Winter driving is horrible. This van has a whistle from the lower part of the windshield at highway speeds. I read this in other reviews and did not believe it. It is very true and a horrible noise. I have owned this van for under six months and will be selling it very soon.

I have three kids and carpool with two other children. You cannot easily, comfortably fit 3 children in car seats in the back row. I am very disappointed in the fact that the cup holders take up room in the third row and I can't fit three kids back there. When I called Honda to inquire they were not at all helpful. Overall disappointed by the minivan.

I bought a 2006 Odyssey new. I'm retired and drive less than 7,000 miles a year. In less than 2 years, the battery died. Two years later, the 2nd battery died. Today, two years later, the battery died. To date, I've spent $450 on batteries. The rear brakes wore out at only 40,000 miles. The brake sensor system did not work. Discs, pads and rotors had to be replaced. Eats batteries & tires. Master cylinder and power steering failed. Soft brake pedal; dealer can fix. Lousy gas mileage: 15 city, 20 interstate. Handles like a tank. Too many blind spots. Auto-liding door problems.

I'm a certified Master technician. My wife and I researched for months and finally purchased the honda. The toyota was a close runner-up. Quality and resale are my biggest concerns and Honda has an excellent track record. I agree with many of the posts, Honda should consider focusing more on the convenience issues.

My husband and I purchased a brand new Odyssey Van in June 2006. Absolutely love the van. We have had no problems until we realized our air conditioner wasn’t working recently in May 2008. Our van only has 24,000 miles on it. I called Fairfield Performance Honda service and was told if it is a rock that damaged the condenser it is not covered. They already knew what was wrong with it b/c they have thousands of complaints on the same matter. Corp will not cover b/c they said it is road debris. It's not consumers fault that they poorly design the front. There is no protection on the front to protect the condenser.Honda needs take take responsibility and recall all Honda cars and vans with problem

The Touring has all the bells and whistles. I do not look forward to replacing the PAX tires in the future. Car is quiet and solid. Major gripe: hatch does not seal out water at bottom and leaves a horrid rust streak where bumper and hatch meet. This is pathetic!

I traded in my 03 Odyssey for 06. 06 has had vibrations in steering wheel at highway cruising speeds since purchase which make vehicle annoying, tiring and perhaps even unsafe to drive. Also excessive steering "kickback" from bumps and imperfections in pavement. Honda has balanced tires twice with no improvement. Suggest you road test Odyssey at highway speed before purchasing.
