Unbelievable!!
I've had numerous vehicles in my life, and I must say that the 2006 Honda Odyssey is the most impressive vehicle I've ever driven! The ride and feel reminds me of a smooth and tight sports car, but not lacking the interior space as seen in those vehicles. The cabin is a scene of tranquility and peace without the noise of the road. At normal interstate speeds, you could literally hear a pin drop.
Great Van
I had a American van it was in the shop every 3 months for one thing or another. I am on my 2nd Honda Van neither one has ever been in the shop for any repairs Just oil changes tire rotation thats it Thank Honda keep up the good work and ill keep buying them.
ignore sticker mpg
Nice van. Seats are wonderful. Drives excellent, relatively quiet for a van. Engine noise is non-exsistent. MPG is horibble, no where near 20-28 on sticker. VCM is almost pointless at 75 mph so increase in mileage at interstate speeds is terrible. If you drive 45 mph everywhere it may get 25 mpg. Averages 19 mpg with 90% interstate driving, that's not even what it was advertised to get in TOWN! Only problems with some faulty weather stripping yet, but have only had it 2 months and 3500 miles. My 1st Honda so will be curious if it will be reliable. Dealership and sales people horrible. Tried 3 different Honda dealers, none seem to want you business.
What Kids Want
This is the vehicle kids want. Our oldest [4 yrs] squealed with glee when we took delivery. Easy to load in and load out. The XM, NAV and DVD keep us all entertained at the same time. Dual climate control is nice. I have owned Acura and Honda in the past and would expect the same excellent reliability as we have had this vehicle for only 10 days. Honda offers a good product for the money, but would be well advised to someday do something about the road noise that is persistent in all Honda and even Acura that I have driven. Wheel well insulation/sound dampening along with double insulated doors [like German cars] would greatly increase the solid feel of the van.
Odyssey Disappointment
We just bought a 2006 Honday Odyssey EX and had problems with the stabilization light, ASB and brake lights coming on. It was in the shop within minutes of driving it and had to be taken back twice within 24 hours for the same problems. Horrible start to what we thought was going to be a perfect choice!! We're worried what will be next!
Never Thought I would own a MiniVan :)
But with one 19 month old and one on the way, the Mrs. thought it would a good idea. And boy, what a great idea. The 2006 Honda Odyessy is FANTASTIC. Space galore, comfortable, and humms just like the Honda I remember. Our second choice was the Toyota Sienna. That van never wow'ed me. The Honda will and does. Nice cruising with the Honda. Enjoy getting the 19 month out of the car without straining the lower back. Great storage, stroller and groceries are not a problem in the least. ps Our other car is the Infinity G-35 Sports Coupe / Still kinda cool :)
Joe's Odyssey
One of the most reliable vehicles we have ever owned. It has been a pleasure to own.
EX-L RES/NAV So far so good.
My wife and I have only had the van for two weeks, and will update the review once I put a few thousand miles on it. It is a joy to drive and the kids enjoy the DVD system.
Don't Buy Honda for Fuel economy..
The car is perfect in almost every respect except for FUEL ECONOMY.. started out at 12mpg city and 16-21mpg hwy.. that's 40% below city and 25%+ below hwy EPA estimates.. Just over 9000 miles and it's 14-15 city and 19- 23 hwy.. That's very gentle driving.. No hard acceleration.. The Honda service manager told me that is about typical economy for the Odyssey with VCM.. My 7200lb 4x4 Crewcab F-250 diesel gets better fuel economy than the Honda.. From 5 or 6 other VCM owners, I get the same report on economy.. I bought the car over the Toyota strictly on economy.. Honda USA is disingenuous to mislead the consumer on the fuel efficiency of the Odyssey.. It weighs 4600lbs!!
Honda saved family's life
A dump truck ran a stop sign hit the Honda on the wife's front fender and then jack- knifed a 20 foot trailer into the rear of the van. The only part of the honda not damaged was the pass side sliding door. The wife and 3 kids walked out with slight bruises. The EMT people and police were behind my wife as the accident happened. They said they thought they were killed and couldn't believe they walked out with little or no injuries. The side curtain airbags in the 2nd & 3rd rows saved head injuries. Everyone who has seen the car said the fact they walked away is a miracle from the good Lord above. Our family thanks Honda. (by the way, a great car also:)
I never thought I'd say this...
Now with 3 kids I had to upgrade from my Nissan Murano to the Odyssey. I never thought I'd be a "minivan mom" but the Odyssey is so comfortable and convenient, with lots of room, I'm so glad we got it. I wish the gas mileage was better. The DVD is great and I love the auto side doors. Very happy with it!
Vantastic!
I had the EXL with RES for five months and every drive has been a pleasure. Great power and handling for a minivan that is so carlike . I had a 2000 Mazda MPV and upgraded to the Honda this year for my two kids needed growing room. I was pleased the two vans were similar in interior design and handling. I got comfortable the first time I drove the Odyssey. Vantastic!
only 65 miles on OD
It's a great vehicle, and the coolest minivan I could find. Clearly the industry leader, but I'll admit I did not look closely at Toyota. I like Hondas, my 2000 Accord LX has been trouble free through 65K. Plan to keep the Ody for 10 years. I wish there were more color choices with a tan interior (a must for us). Just knowing I could blast to 60 in 7.4 seconds is great, though not planning to test that limit until I have at least 500 miles on the OD.
Better than our ML 500
This is our second Odyssey, and I can't believe how much it's improved! It's so air-tight I have to keep an eye on the speedometer. With three kids from 18 months to 11 years, this car meets my need to have plenty of spaces to store "stuff", but still look fantastic. The controls are very intuitive, and the only complaint I have at all is having to re-adjust the arm-rest every time I put on my seat belt. The additional features of the touring edition are worth every penny. The rear camera and parking sensors help with our tight garage, and the remote lift-gate comes in handy when carrying a toddler, computer bag, back-pack and stroller all at once.
Great car but two gotchas
Great car, very tight build, very quiet. But the gas mileage so far is 15-16 in town, and 22-24 on the highway. Far from what the window sticker says. Coupled with a fairly small gas tank for a van and it means that the range is not very good. And while there are about a hundred cupholders, none of them work very well. You'll be chasing bottles of water after every turn.
The Odessey of MiniVans
Having driven sports cars from the day I got my license (and still have one) I must say that having taken the family on 6 long distance trips so far, this is the most comfortable, well thought out vechicle for kids AND adults. The kids watch dvds with wireless headsets while the adults can still listen to "our" music/xm. Never once did we say, we wish this van had this or placed something there. Excellent workmanship, and the run flat tires give me piece of mind should the wife be driving with our 3 kids and get a flat.
WOW,WHAT A VAN!!!!!!!!
Drives like a Dream. Great 0 to 70 for entering the Highway. Handles really good @ 80 even when it is windy. MPG around 16 city 24 Hw. Could be better but, MPG is @ the bottom of my list. Safety, build quality and quickness are more important. Truly the odyssey is the best all around Van/Car for the money. You can not go wrong with this van.
almost a 10
Second Odyssey we've owned. This is almost the perfect van. The seat to floor distance is perfect to shorter wife and fine for taller driver. Vehicle height while driving is good to see around area. Ride fit and finish very good. Absolutly no problems at 14000 miles.
hsnrl
No problems, very quiet and comfortable, good gas mileage,
Wonderful Van
Great Van! I traded in my 2004 Odyssey EX-RES for the 2006 EX. I love the re-design, and I couldn't be happier with my new vehicle. The ride is smoother, handles better, and has more cupholders than my family could ever dream of using.
New Owner
I compared both Toyota XLE and Honda EX Cloth. The Honda has beautiful acceleration and very responsive brakes. Great visibility and commanding driving positions. Very agile for its size.(I reluctantly had to sell my BMW 330i and so was pleased with the Honda's manouvering).
Great Big Van
So far so good. Comfortable, quiet ride, all the goodies work, no annoying noises or brake issues. Drives very well. Would recommend to a friend.
Great Minivan
Best minivan I had (3). I drive it DAILY. Fuel economy when "eco"light is on is great. Only disappointments are quality of paint & shocks. Kids bicycles scratches go all the way to the bare metal or plastic. The paint is not as good as my previous vehicles (BMW, Ford, Dodge, Volvo). I had to replace the rear shocks at 37,000. Other than those two things, the van is great. I am planning to replace it with another Odyssey
Best Van I've owned
Maybe we're just lucky however the only problem we've had w/the Ody is a rear seat seam became unraveled and was fixed under warranty, At 52,000m we replaced the original Michelins and that is all we have done to it other than an alignment and O and F changes. Much better reliability than any of the four domestics minivans we had previous to this one. Well thought out interior design compared to some others.
Pros and Cons
We just received our 2006 Odyssey EX-L w/ DVD. Biggest gripe? NO COIN HOLDER!!!! There are way too many cup holders, and no place to nicely organize our coins. Also, where we used to have a under the seat (passenger) drawer, they put our subwoofer! In the past, the subs were always installed under the driver's seat. Maybe this was an installer's mistake? In the past we had a 2002 and 2004 Odyssey EX'Ls, and thought they were a bit "vanilla", but very nice. The newest van has a very impressive dash, better leather on the seats, cool (for a van) sunroof, and neat little hidey-holes for all your stuff.
Best Minivan in the Market
This is the best minivan you can buy. Minivans used to be all about practical and boring. Get an Odyssey with leather and you'll feel like you're driving an Acura MDX rather than a hulking people mover.
Fabulous Mini Van
I didn't realize how luxurious this mini van was when I bought it. The sound system is incredible, the dashboard is easy to use and there is so much to play with. The ride is excellent
The best van out there...
Who said driving a minivan isn't cool? Finally, a van that drives like a real car!! Kudos to Honda for doing it right. Great feel, comfort, versatility, and in the long run, a great value.
Bet mini van ever owned !!!
Nothing about this mini van we don't like !! Had Chrysler town and country and others, no comparision! Gas mileage just as claimed, brakes smooth and quiet.Love the roll down back windows with sun shades.Rear camera a real bonus. Easy Nav system compared with others.{touch screen}Front and back warning system a real help. Most only have rear.Tires could be quieter but run flat option out ways the noise. {it's not that bad, at all !} Just can't say enough great things about the van. and we have bought and sold a lot of vehicles. We plan on keeping this van a long time !!
odyssey experience
the passenger seat is not very comfortable especially compared to the drivers seat
A minivan that can handle curves
Best minivan I ever owned or test driven. The only minivan that handles like a German sedan. I can't imagine a more practical kid hauler or vacation vehicle. Sure hope it holds up for miles to come.
Nice Van but Misled on RunFlats
I really had not had many complaints about my Honda Odyssey touring. Although last year we took it in and were told that the engine mounts had to be replaced. Walked out $1700 later. Never had to replace that part on any other car I had now with only 27k on my mileage I have to get new tires. Not bad if they were regular tires but no we were sold the run flats. No one told us that each tire would cost $350 plus labor. $1600 later and that does not include the part inside the tire that needs to be replaced after 4 yrs so each one is another $200. We are looking at $2300 to replace my tires. So mad. We are now looking at selling this van pretty quickly.
on the mark
Love this van, hard to believe you are driving a mini van. Very comfortable and controls are within reach, handles very well. Lots of storage. First time owning a foreign minivan, sorry I waited so long.
Love this van!
I just bought this van and am in love with it! It is by far the nicest auto I have ever owned. I went with Edmunds recommendation of the Honda Odyssey and have not been disappointed. Once I drove the 2006 Odyssey, there was no turning back... even to a 2004 that was on the lot. There are many large and small well planned features. I am 6' tall and love the fact that the driver's seat is high, but I still have plenty of leg room and (ah-hem!) hip room:-). I know it will hold its value. I can see me owning this for many years!
watch out for noise
The Odyssey has a "characteristic" that is annoying. Keep the rpm around 2100 when slowly accelerating or going up a hill and it resonates/hums. I hope they fix this soon! Other than that it has been a very enjoyable vehicle that has more headroom in the rear seats than the Sienna, a big plus when carrying 6 adults.
Great Vehicle
Purchased the Odyssey (EX-L w/RES) a little over a week ago. I have had minivans for nearly 20 years. I had always resisted going for a Honda or Toyota because of the high selling prices. However, having put up with minivans from Ford and Dodge, I decided it was time to bite the bullet and put quality ahead of price. Looking at vehicles from Honda and Toyota, the Odyssey was clearly best for my purposes. Even though I have only had the vehilce for a week, the difference in quality between it and the domestics is obvious. I also got a good price on the vehicle, paying less than invoice. At this point, I couldn't be happier.
Love my Van
I cannot understand all the complaints about the Odyssey. I previously had 2 different Chrysler vans and this Odyssey beats anything I had with Chrysler. I have had not brake problems, no tire troubles, nothing. I am religious about oil changes and routine mileage servicing. I would buy another Odyssey in a minute! Drives like a dream!
Excellent! A great upgrade 2002 Odyssey
This is my 4th Honda, and my second Odyssey. I love everything about it! I haven't had issues with the fuel economy at all, and am averaging ~24 mpg. I drive 60 miles a day round trip in Atlanta rush hour traffic. The 2006 is a huge upgrade from the 2002 model. This van rides like a car, very smooth. Issues I had with the 2002 such as hesitating transmission, horsepower, etc. seem to be resolved with the 2006 model. Love It!
A Perfect 10!!
Perfection. We had a 1999 Odyssey. Honda made all of the improvements you could think of. This van is awesome. My wife will not switch with me. She was thinking of ditching the van concept but not now. Honda is a great car - van - company!!!
Excellent Mini-Van Family Car
This is a very nice family vehicle. The automatic doors are nice to have, the navigation system is great, and the fit and finish are excellent. The fuel mileage is better than expected for a V-6 with nice power. The mileage saving ECM, which shuts down 3 cylinders, is almost undetectable. Even though I live in So Cal, the seat warmers have come in handy. The entertainment system has an adequate screen size and the sound system is passable. Overall I am very please with this vehicle and would buy it again.
Never thought I'd own a minivan
Test drove this vehicle and loved it. My wife now takes it more often than our Acura TL sedan. No problems with it since we bought it in October.
My third Odyssey in 6 years
50 mph and 60/70 very bad droning/humming noise and vibration. It's a shame because its spoils a otherwise good car.
Fast!
I've driven an Expedition for the past 6 years and I loved it. Being a mother of 3 boys it was time to "get my soccer mom car". But, I really enjoy this vehicle and I don't believe it fits in that catagory. It's a lot faster than some other mini-vans I had tested. My husband even enjoys driving to our cottage up north. Love the mileage compared to SUV. Always felt safe in the SUV, but I like knowing that side curtain airbags are standard even on the lower models - don't know of another make/model that is. Only a few things that should be standard by now but aren't.
Awesome Crash Performance
This van was just put to the ultimate test in a collision at 55 mph. The anti-lock brakes helped the driver maintain control for as long as possible to lessen the impact, and the crumple zones in the front of the vehicle absorbed most of the shock. The passenger cabin appeared virtually pristine, with the exception of the two front air-bags. All four people inside, including two young children, sustained very minor scrapes and bruises. Great job Honda! Will buy another Odyssey as soon as insurance money comes through.
Revolt Needed
Positives of this vehicle are well documented. Problems are well concealed. Brakes are an issue as mentioned... early drum turning required. Economy is average, as is passenger comfort. Driver's seat OK, not great, the rest are "short trip" friendly only. Real issue: squawking parking brake drum... which service garage tells me Honda is classifying as a "Honda characteristic". Backing out of parking, turning at very low speed is the circumstance where it occurs. Parking brake band leans over and touches rear drum. Tech told me that every Honda on the lot will eventually do this and Honda company refuses to design a "fix". When WE squawk, Honda will respond.
Great overall but poor gas mileage
Best looking Odyssey ever. Love both the outside as well as the inside. Drives very nice as a Honda should. The only thing I am not very happy with is the mileage 20mpg city/highway combined -- EPA est. was 22/28 for the EX-L.
Honda Odyssey
This is the best vehicle I have ever owned! I feel like for the first time I am in a vehicle that was truly researched for what a driver would want - I can't find anything I do not like about the van. I wish I hadn't gotten one sooner.
Best Minivan ever
Though I'm embarresed to say it, this van is fun to drive, it gets great mileage, it has awesome comfort controls, and great leather seats. Huge trunk, very spacious, moonroof is nice, and so is the 6-disk changer
2006 Honda Odyssey LX minivan
I did not realize how big this Honda minivan was until I got it in my garage. Yet, it pulls hills like they weren't even there. My wife loves all the extra room it has. She likes the rear seat storage compartment in the back floor as a place to put the groceries when she goes shopping. They don't slide around there. It is quiet, handles sharp curves well, effortless to drive. The overdrive works extremely well, does not jump in and out as my older vehicles did. It seems to be able to read your mind, and drops into overdrive only when the driving situation is right. On level highway the move to overdrive is gradual, until the engine rpm is down to 1100 - 1600 rpm, and quiet! 18-22 mpg in city.
Honda Quality? Whatever.
Paid 30K for the van. MULTIPLE problems with it and I'm not exactly a Whiner. 1. Steering pump at 5000 mi. Took it in and they said there was a TSB. They said the wrong fluid was added at the factory. They changed the fluid reservoir? Cured the problem for about 10k. I got the bulletin. They miss read it. the entire pump and the reservoir was to be replaced. Like every thing else with this car, the steering problem is "intermittent" they couldn't recreate the issue bla bla bla. 2. Front wheel bearings. 20k Car was in the shop 2 weeks with them trying to figure this out. Another tsb bla bla bla 3. Front brake grinding and warped rotors. 4. retaining clips in front lower bumper are falling out
