Is it showing its age?

I've had my CR-V for 2.5 years. It's been a great car and fun to drive, but I think it may be starting to show its age! At 2 years/30K the brakes, battery and tires all had to be replaced--too soon, in my book. Car has pulled to right from the start, but I live with that. From day one, I've experienced a grinding noise from the rear when turning hard (U-turns). Finally, at the shop today I was told there is a differential repair bulletin out for this, requiring resurfacing and new pads (work done at Honda's expense). Lately, I notice the car is a bit sluggish starting, and it surges at stop signs. The VSA indicator comes on occasionally. Hope this isn't a problem brewing!

This is our first CR-V but fourth Honda and its proving to be just as reliable as the others (now 3 yrs old with 32000miles). Mileage is worse than our other Hondas but its a SUV. We have used all 72cu ft of cargo space more than we thought we would, can't imagine how we lived without a SUV before. For those complaining about road noise I suggest Goodyear Comfortreds, helps a lot with noise and its a good tire as well.

My dad purchased this vehicle for me in Nov. of 2004 when they first came out. I wasn't really excited about the CR-V because I had never really liked them in the first place. My dad being the Honda fanatic that he is, encouraged my to try it. When I first found out about the 4cyl engine I wasn't too excited, but when I started to drive it, every day I started to like it more. I was very impressed with the handling from the awd and the power of the small engine. The tweeter sound kit is very nice and the 6-CD changer is a great thing to have. The leather seats are very comfortable and easy to clean and most of all it makes the CR-V look even more stylish and expensive. All in all it's a great SUV.

This is our second and last CR-V. Has served us well but we are just tired of this small vehicle (we are not large people). Just put second set of rear rotor and pads on the rear at 50,000 miles. Fronts on second set of pads. Need to replace the rear caliper, $375 at dealer for parts only. $74 at autozone. CR-V is alright for around-town driving but too small for a road trip. OEM tires terrible - now on Michelins and much better ride. 26-27 mpg on highway trip at 70-75 mph. AWD works great as we live in Buffalo snow belt. Considering used grand caravan or Odyssey.

Have owned my 2005 CR-V-SE since new and the only thing I ever have done to it is meticulous maintenance and a tensioner went bad while it was under warranty. Best car I've ever owned. Have owned Camry's; Maxima's and previously American cars and would only buy Honda in the future. Best dealer I found for service is Coggin Honda in Orlando, FL.

2005 CRV Rear Differential problems

Great car except at about 12,000 miles I started to have rear differential problems. When sharp turns are made at very low speed the rear end vibrates and shakes, and there is a clunking sound. Took it to the dealer. First they said i wasn't driving it enough. Then said there was a TSB saying that there was a lubrication problem with the clutches in the unit. Said they fixed it. Got worse the same day I drove home. I think its a defective differential, the screen filer inside is clogged, or oil needs to be changed, manual says 60,000 miles, probably should be changed once a year. Couldn't sell the car with that kind of problem. Still under warranty two years and 20,000 miles, back to Honda.

2004,2005,2006 AC units are so bad Honda had to settle a lawsuit regarding this piece of junk. Do not buy a used Honda CRV unless the AC unit has been replaced, it will cost you $1400.00 bucks to replace it. Eventually you will have to if you drive it over 50,000 miles that is about how long it will last.

If you want a SUV with good performance and dependability, this is the one you should get. However, if you cares much about internal design, then get another one. This SUV has great engine/trans. and drives smoothly. I don't want to offend any Honda fans here, but the internal design needs quite a lot improvements. The Antenna is old- fashioned, Gas Cap Release is hard to reach, Gear Shift blocks the radio control, Rear Door opens to wrong direction (learned that since it was originally designed for Japanese market), Rear Wiper misses a large area, No Central Console, narrow and deep door pocket makes little things hard to retrieve, Arm Rest is uncomfortable, Fuel Tank is too small ...

Honda needs to reduce the road noise for this vehicle. Switch location is in poor placement too, for example the heated seat button is located in a location under the steering wheel where it can not be seen withpout taking your eyes off the road. Windshield angle should be looked at, have had ours replaced twice and were told its very common on these. It is a good reliable vehicle with pretty good mileage. We average 25-27 mpg. It does need a larger gas tank, 15.8 gallons doesn't cut it. On longer trips where the speed limit is 70 or 75 expect to be stopping to fill up every 4 hours.

Except for the differential problem which Honda took care of, it's been a solid vehicle that you feel you'll keep till 200,000 on the odo. Lucked out, original tires lasted till 33,000 at which time Sears indicated brake pads at 50% give or take all around. Have changed oil at Honda every 5,000. Other than that, gas, wash, wax. Fuel economy respectable. Plenty of room for me in the back seat with front seat all the way back, I'm 6'3". Currently at 34,300 miles, no rattles, everything works. Yes it does have the road noise everyone complains about.

When shopping for a vehicle I wanted one that was very versatile and got decent gas mileage. This CR-V does just that. Most of my driving is around town so my 23-25 mpg is OK and is higher on the highway. There is very slight torque steer to the right only on acceleration but it isn't a problem. I've been able to carry my bike laying inside and at other times much stuff from home supply stores or lawn and garden stores.

I commute over 30,000 miles to work a year in Chicago weather and have not had a better time. This vehicle provides me everything I need: 1) comfort, 2) great gas mileage, 3) safety, and 4) makes going to the home improvment store a snap (my wife prefers it as the grocery getter over the minivan as well). In addition the superb handling, this little in-line 4 clinder has great acceleration. 5 months after buying this, someone rear- ended me while I was at a light doing over 50mph. This car saved my life and the cabin remained untouched...crumpled exactly as advertised. While the accident was bad, I was at least reassured knowing if my children were in, they would've been alright.

I found no problem with this vehicle except some minor things that bother me a little: -The battery drain so quick, after only half hour listen to the radio, I could not start the engine. -You can not let the two back windows down while driving, very noisy. -Ceiling vibration causes annoying noise. -Fuel economy is right at 23MPG. This may be is the NORM.

I love my CRV. I will never own another brand vehicle. I have so many positives, so I'll tell others about my negatives. You can't roll down the back windows without hearing a horrible vibration. The exterior panels around the wheel wells are fading to a gray while everything else is black. The intermittent wipers need more variety/speeds. I would like another power outlet up front...for 2 cell phones. POSITIVES- very spacious, drives great, fast acceleration for a 4 cyl.,good gas mileage, quiet. I love my CRV

This car was purchased for my daughter to take to college in 2 years. It is maneuverable and fun to drive, and was chosen over the mazda and ford models for its crash integrity. My only complaint is the noisy dueler ht tires, and their poor wear. Rear seat height and rear mounted spare tire make for poor rearward visibility, especially when backing in parking lots...proved that with a low sports car behind me waiting for my spot...

I and my family love this CR-V as it fits the 3 of us just right. It's a good looking car and is easy to keep clean. We love the 6 disc cd changer in dash and love the height of the vehicle as we can slide right into it. The only drawback is the road noise while driving. It has great pick-up after 40 mph even though it is a 4-cylinder.

My first AND LAST Honda product... I have never had a car that requires so much maintenance (I'm 63 years old and have had many)... Rear Differential needs oil change every 15K to 20K. It starts and runs, it is fairly confy but but expensive to keep... Now have another noise when at low speed - like a Diesel noise - mechanics have not been able to identify it - perhaps the alternator bearing they said... Anyway, thinking about trading it in, I'm tired of so much maintenance and problems.

Bought it via internet, at invoice price, after extensive research, and it did not disappoint. The AWD really came in handy during 2005 NYC snowstorms. The car looks great, drives great, very nimble, excellent visibility. Acceleration is a bit slow, but then it is not a sports car. Very comfortable, too, and spacious cargo area. And it is very resilient due to its bumper style: we had an accident, the other car took heavy damage to both right doors, we just got a couple barely noticeable scuff marks on our front bumper. I love this car and during a year of driving it, I never wished I bought something else.

Purchase in March of 05 have 10089 miles break down 70% interstate 30% city. A few reviews have mentioned a pulling to the right I did take it back to dealer twice. There still seems to be a tendency to pull to the right but this is over a long strech of road. It offers comfortable ride minor road noise and excellent fit and finish. As to performance it is 160 HP with a five speed automatic fwd. When I need to get moving the design of vehicle drops you down from 5th to 3rd gear and you increase about 1200RPM if you are runnig the A/C that is design to go off for time your demanding the HP to accelerate. When done A/C comes back on go back to 5th gear. MPG high 27.24 low 20.41 average 23.38

I bought the Honda based on its reputation. I was shocked to find, after riding it for a few days, how I feel every crack in the pavement, and I experience a very bumpy jarring ride. Why hasn't Honda paid attention to good shock absorbers and springs?? Is there anything I can do to get a smoother ride????? Better shocks??? Please advise. Other than the ride, I am pleased with the car. Also, if I go on a trip and travel at 60-70 mph I only get 23 mpg. Why???? My girlfriend bought the same car, but returned it to the dealer the next day because of the poor quality of the ride hurting her back.

Somebody was really thinking at honda about this car. It has lots of little nifty features that work well. The EX package is just the way i wanted it and it's built the way you would expect a honda to be. I can cram far more into it that i thought i was going to be able to, and it has pleanty of pep for a little 2.4 lt motor. Have had it over 9,000 feet and its not winded and it handles well in up to about a foot of snow. On the highway its smooth clear up to 90 and it holds the road more than anything else in its class. This little car has impresed me in the snow and ice. Solid feel but not bulky and it really digs into hilly corners. I see many on the road and i can see why.

My CRV is the first non-domestic vehicle that I've purchased. I've been disappointed in the quality of the big three automakers for over 35 years and my Honda CRV doesn't seem to be much better. I don't know if the fact that my CRV was built in England has anything to do with the defects that I've encountered but it shouldn't matter anyway. This CRV was missing numerous body fasteners from the factory and the rear window glass is defective. The engine is losing coolant internally and the dealer doesn't know where it's going. There is one door that seems to have a problem with the latch.

I've been researching small SUV's for a few months now and decided to go with the CR-V mainly because I've owned Honda's and always been happy with them. This is a really sharp looking little truck and a lot of fun to drive. I love everything about it with one exception, I wish it had a tad more leg room. I'm 6' tall and I wish the seat moved back another 2" so I could stretch out a bit better on long trips. The gas mileage is good but not as good as they list on their web site. I've been driving like a granny trying to see how good I could do with mileage but I have not gotten very close to the listed mileage yet.

New SE CRV doesn't live up to hype. MPG rated 23/29. Haven't seen 23 even on flat west Texas highways. You can expect real MPG in teens. Ride and drive harsh. Hope the safety features are not over rated as well. Still worth the money for a SUV. Lot of vehicle for $20k. Bottom line - if MPG is a big issue, buy a car.

I wanted a small SUV to be able to handle taking my dogs to the vet, get up some local snowy hills, provide some "extras" and have good gas mileage. I got it all with the CRV SE. I love the size, the reliability of this make, and price. It fits in the garage and still can handle a load from the local home improvement store. Four adults fit comfortably but five could squeeze if needed. It also reaches a nice middle ground between car and SUV for handling curves and bumps.

I can truly say that this is one of the best vehicles I have ever owned! It drives nicely, is very quiet in the inside....and gives me lots of room to carry things -- which is helpful when you are an active teacher who likes to go to Home Depot. The fuel economy is a little less than I would like...but you take the good with the bad.

Back in my college days I had a CRX and that car ran and ran and ran, forever, practically. So when my wife asked for a new car, we went looking. She was giving up a 1993 Toyota 4- Runner. I was concerned that she was not going to like a smaller car. However, after research, we found that the CRV as far as head room, leg room, etc...goes, was bigger!! We were going to get the 2004 as the time was right, shopping wise for that year. But once we saw the 2005 with the 16- inch wheels and the new colors, we had to get one. We have only had the car for one week and I think we would love any new car, even if it was a Pinto. But this car is really nice. After we drive it we'll stop in.

This car rides much like the Accord. I find myself thinking I'm in my old Accord when driving this vehicle. Hanlding is tight and solid. Acceleration and visibility are good. I'm still getting use to the positioning of the gear shift and the emergency break. I would like to see remote keyless entry standard on the LX model. I would also like Honda to put better quailty tires on all their vehicles. I tend not to get very many miles off their tires. Also the CR-V doesn't seem to like to go much over 80 miles/hr. I realize that SUVs and higher speeds are, to a certain degree, mutually exclusive. If you don't have to tow anything and your off-road demands are lite to nill - I recomend.

I purchased my CR-V after owning a Forester for three years. Though I loved my Subaru, I wanted something a little bigger and higher. The heated seats/exterior mirrors sold me on the move to the CR-V, and I don't regret it! I just love driving my car. It feels so sporty and secure, and I can't believe how large the interior seems. I'm looking forward to see how it handles in the snow. The excellent reliability ratings and consumer reviews were a big selling point, too.

We've had a '97, '01, & now a new 2005 CR-V EX AWD. We think the CR-V is one of the best cars anywhere for the money. The 2005 has more power, is safer (side air bags, stability assist in addition to 4WD), and is an all- around excellent vehicle for urban use & occasional trips. The cargo capacity is huge, mileage is great, no scheduled tune-ups for 100K miles, the engine is a marvel. When American companies start making vehicles of this quality, we'll buy an American car again.

This is my 4th CR-V. Love the reliability. Traded in my new 2007 cr- v for the boxier model. The 2007 was to much like a car as apposed to a small SUV. Only real downfall is the gas mileage. The 2007 got 400 miles to the 15 gal tank. 2005 gets about 1/3 less, makes a difference when gas is over $4/gal. Great for "home depot" trips.

I've owned 4 Toyotas (1 Camry, 2 Highlanders & 1 Matrix) before and this is my first Honda. I am very impressed with the CR-V. I was considering a RAV4 but this is a better choice--more features and lower price. It is spacious for a small SUV. The acceleration is just fine for a 4 cylinder SUV. I love the pewter pearl color.

I wanted to purchase the EX version but instead purchased the LX AWD to save the 2K, big mistake. In addition to the obvious enhancements offered by the EX trim line, the seats were even more comfortable due to the better fabric used. Plus, I missed the sunroof, tinted windows and nice alloy wheels only used in the EX trim line. Otherwise, my LX-AWD was a good performer. Avg city/hwy mileage 22 mpg.

A Winter Tank Par Excellence

Has survived 2 New England winters at - 30F, mud season back roads, mountain travel, sits out 365 days per year and always starts on the first key turn. Paint incredible, getting 29mpg highway, and 25mpg back roads even with snow tires and a loaded carge area. VTEC engine is same one used to be in Honda Prelude sports car, and only needs 'regular' gas to obtain top performance. Incredibly cost-efficient and stable. Great fun to drive, feels very safe cornering and over rough, rocky back roads.

This has been everything I hoped for: small SUV with tall storage/cargo, very good ground clearance, and tons of safety features. It's also easy for my 6' 2" frame to get in and out of, and the flat floor front and rear is great. Fold down piece between front seats is handy. I agree that the black interior is a total pain to keep clean, and the CRV is certainly not to be confused with a smooth riding, good handling sedan--I have an Outback than is rock solid at 80. The CRV can feel a little loose after 70, especially with wind or if you need to do anything sudden. Beyond that, I have nothing but compliments and can confirm the 23/29 mileage that many others report.

We purchased our CRV because it was recommended for towing behind our motorhome. We love the gas mileage we get with it and it is just a simple, affordable car.
