2002 Honda CR-V
Great vehicle, no problems, will probably buy another.
Pretty good, but some annoying issues
I have manual & had to bring it in for clutch issues 6x (free). The rear wiper only rotates apx. 60 degrees; w/rear windows open you get a horrid air noise; no int wipers & wipers grind on windshield; crappy upgraded sound system; locks are funny based on key position in ignition; other than that, the car has held up well & will probably resell well also. It could have been better, but at least it never broke down on the road. I beat on it too.

My Honda
This has been the most dependable car that we have ever owned. There have been no maintenance problems and the gas mileage exceeds the amounts shown on the sticker. In fact, my wife has taken it as her car even though we own another later modeled brand.
Dissapointed
I have a 2002 CRV and my AC compressor just went out. I have about 55,000 miles on it and I hardly ever use my AC. I had a mechanic tell me off the record that he has seen this problem with quite a few CRV's. Funny, I was considering buying a new CRV before this happened. I have owned three Honda's before this one, and I have never been dissapointed until now.
F to the 5th
Awesome SUV
Gonna hang onto this one awhile
We bought ours new in 2002 and have loved it ever since. OEM tires are no good in snow after a few thousand miles (we live in Buffalo). Replaced with good all season Yokohama tires, which are now going on their 3rd winter. Interior plastic does scratch/show smudges a little too easily, as does the exterior paint. Seats are a little uncomfortable on long rides. Storage is great. We use the picnic table when we camp. We use this over our Accord for vacation road trips because it's so fun to drive! Good mileage for a ute (we get 24-27 MPG). No mechanical problems at 50,000 miles so far except dealer recalls which were fixed very quickly.
Happy with my Honda
A fun, fuel efficient safe vehicle. Great in the snow. Has held up well over 50,000 miles -- plan to keep it for another 50,000. Prior to installing a "bug shield" had many small nicks in the paint on the hood. Otherwise, a near perfect performance - - hey, it's a Honda.
Almost perfect
I have this car for a little over a week already. I really like this car. The manual transmission is great. It is smooth and quiet (no clicking noise problem). A lot of power in low gears. High RPM in highway speed (over 3000) slightly over 70 mph. Road noises depends on ashalt(good) or concrete road (bad) but very good in general.
Blizzard of 2003 Report
We traded our 98 Cherokee in this summer. On Feb 15-17 2003 we got over 3 feet of snow and my first thought was "wish I had my Jeep back." Wrong. The CRV jumped snow banks without hesitation. We also took it to Cape Cod this summer and packed it so full of junk, we NEVER could have made the trip in the Cherokee. We've had ZERO problems with the car.
CRV: Nice Car - with unexpected issues!
It has a few drawbacks: a) Fuel Inefficient (15 in the city, 20 highway) for last two months. b) The folding table broke without anything on it! Tip for using it: never use handle to lift it up. Just slowly pop it up, from the middle. c) Paint crack: I just saw it on the hood last night.... covered under the warranty? d) Front foot room - already mentioned: exhausting during long drives. BTW Angelica; the noise experienced is due to gear selector being blocked/released, at higher speeds.
Not one problem in 5+ years!
This car has not caused me one problem in over 5 years. Why would anyone consider anything else besides a Honda or Toyota. They keep going and going even more so than the energizer bunny.
Smal SUV w/ middle SUV interior room
roomy, quiet, good fuel economy. best in class!
Good Buy
Overall I am very happy with my purchase. The only problems I see with its appearance are the small wheels. I also notice a lot of road noice while on the interstate. My 6'2" boyfriend cannot drive the truck because he can't get the seat back far enough to be comfortable. Other than that it's a wonderful buy! The interior has a lot of room and I get a lot of compliments on the truck.
Aggressive looking,but boring engineCRV
I moved from a 2000 Accord V6 coupe to a manual trans CRV thinking that the this would make road trips, game days easier. Well, it's nice for around town shopping, but any long distance trips, camping trips, etc shows off the limitations. Gas mileage is not that great when you consider that most SUV's with V6's are getting about 20- 24mpg. This vehicule after 14 months of driving could not muster any better then 22mpg. Best thing about the CRV is its strong resale value.
Very Happy with our CR-V
Other than the bland interior our CR-V has been awesome. We average over 27+mpg with alot of highway. The interior space for cargo and people was a big factor in choosing the CR-V over the Liberty and Rav4. I'm 6'3 and I can sit in the back without my knees hitting the front seat backs. The CR-V is a fun, practical, economical vehicle without the typical SUV liabilities.
Good all around, not perfect
Has plenty of power to make driving fun, but shakes like hell under HARD accelaration. 4WD was engaging/disengaging rapidly? My biggest complaint is that you can't turn the AC off when defrost is on. Found a "hack" on the web that if you pushed butons in a magic sequence you can now turn AC off when in defog. There is serious storage space throughout vehicle. My rear tire brake seized at ~30K miles. Dealer fixed without charge. Getting to the oil filter and fuses are a major pain. My final complaint is that the rear wiper does not go 180 degrees like it should. I think it is an excellent compromise between SUV and car. I am quite happy overall.
hondas are well thought out
great suv would like it to have a little more driver room
You don't have to pay MSRP.
We were going to buy a 2001 and when I saw the 2002 and drove it I knew it would be perfect for us. Had to order since it is a FWD and that took 6 weeks. My wife drives it most of the time and she loves it no complaints so far.
More than I expected.
If you are looking for a compact SUV or an alternative to a family car you have to check the CR-V. I got much more than I expected. Acceleration and power are more than adequate for the vehicle. Interior space and storage areas are unmatched in its class. Styling has been much improved in the latest generation. The quality is outstanding for a $18-$19,000 vehicle. Could it use a little here and there, yes, but if your that picky, buy a Lexus or Acura. But, for us middle classers, you can't beat it. Just one thing, get the keyless entry. No power lock button on passenger door is a pain. My keyless entry is on order.
2002 CRV
The new CRV is a great small SUV it drives just like a car and is incredibly versatile. The CRV also gets its peak torque early so it pulls through all the gears.
Nicky's Review
My last 3 vehicles were Toyotas and I said I would never get anything else, but after test driving the CR-V and comparing it to the RAV4 I changed my mind. The CR-V is more comfortable, has a smoother ride, and the price was better and included more standard options. Not so good is the noise coming from my brakes. It only happens after the car has been sitting for a while and I push on the brakes for the first time. The dealership said a "clicking or groaning" noise is normal, but I consider it a loud "clunking" noise.
So in love with my CRV!
I bought my '02 CRV EX in '05 as a used car. It had about 34k miles on it when I bought it. I drive about 55 miles each way to work every day. My car now has almost 82,000 miles on it and runs perfectly! I have always stayed on the mark with the oil changes and tune-ups, and other than regular maintenance, nothing else has ever needed repair.
A big improvement!
I used to own the 98 CRV EX. Just returned it and got the 2002 verison. I have to say, all of the complains I had for 98 model have been addressed. The car now looks a lot better and drives a lot better. I really like this one. I am also 6 ft tall, but didn't find any problem with the seat.
So Far So Good
Great handling. Nice strong engine through all gears (can't believe its a 4). Very large interior. Comfortable seats. Plenty of cargo room; lots more with the seats flipped up. Around town 24 MPG. Paint and exterior detail is perfect - even in cracks and crevices. Smooth, positive ride. Road noise is minimal. Doors close like an airtight vault. The only problem is that I'm still talking to myself about paying list price, $22,740.
The New CR-V is one heckuva vehicle!
I had a 1998 Honda Passport (LX). Before that, I had owned 'true' Honda's. I was not happy with my Passport and traded it in for the 2002 Honda CR-V (EX). The difference between the two are like night and day. The CR-V ride is much more like a car. The Passport was noisy, and drove like an old pickup truck. I feel like I've come home again when I drive my new CR-V.
The best suv
I researched all the small suv's and found the cr-v to offer the most. Other reviews have complained about the engine size - it is plenty powerful enough for my needs. Others have complained about excessive road noise - this is not the case with mine. It is one of quietest cars I've been in. I think bigger wheels and better tires would make a difference, but it is very comfortable driving. The quality of Honda shows thru and thru with this cr-v. Rough roads do make some difference in noise and ride, but nothing that is unacceptable. Like the parking brake position and will eventually get used to gear shift on dash. This is the suv to buy!
seat comfort
re: review of John Miller of March 6,2002, have experienced the same problem with the drivers seat. Feet begin to go numb after driving for awhile. I am 6'2". Also, back aches after driving it for not that long a period
Another great Honda
This is another great Honda. It might not be the fastest suv of there but I know it will not be in the shop like the other cars that I have had. I put on a lot of miles a year both on highway and city and I never had a problems with Honda. I can not say the same about the VW GTI. It was in shop every 2 monthes with a bill average of $600. Glad to be back in a Honda
Love it!
More we drive it more, more we like it! I work in DC and it's perfect for city and highway driving. Don't have trouble parking anywhere. Plenty of room to carry just about anything.
Awesome
Fun to drive
EXTREMELY PLEASED
Three weeks old and loving it. I have owned Hondas before and went astray, never again. I am thrilled with it. Engine seems more like a 6 cylinder. I hope I get as good service as I did my prior Hondas. Highly recommend.
Great Suv
This new suv seems to hit the area up here in the northeast. While i don't do heavy off roading,i comes in handy when i do need it. I got 25.8 miles per gallon on the first tank with a little interstate driving. Everything seems to be what we want. I have 625 miles on it and can't wait to drive it more. Our other car was a 1997 honda accord ex. So what a move!
A great car for all ages.
It is big, powerfull and fun to drive. I was able to fit 3 pairs of skis and two passangers with comfort. Also great for my other outdoor activities.
Everything but the seat
Compared all small SUBs,and felt CRV superior in all aspects including price. Every three months I am very pleased with it overall, but do have a major concern. I cannot get comfortable in driver's seat. I am only 5'8" but no matter how I tilt back I am uncomfortable within a few minutes. It may be the lumbar (I would like to be able to turn it off) or the the contour of the seat. I have tried a variety of seat cushions but none of them have signicantly helped. As much as I like how it handles and drives, I am concerned about my level of comfort on a long trip.
Honda CRV-EX the pick of the litter
This vehicle drives and rides so much better than the competitors. The power is there...much more than the gas hog Liberty and the considerably better than the Escape(why get a mini-suv with full size suv mileage. I considered the features the price the different levels of build quality and the drastic difference in reliability and I do not understand why anyone would get past the preliminary invesigation of the other vehicles. Advice to Honda..Make More CRVs and let people test drive them. I had to put a deposit on mine while some of my friends bought what was available i.e. Fords or Jeeps and now they wish they had waited.
Not bad, very good for now.
Well I got this vehicle because it was the first car. My dad liked it when we visited Saturn of national city, I was trying to get the 04 trailblazer because it was more roomer but thank goodness I got the CR-V with gas price is increasing, I love the CR-V and made a lot of modification to it but, I don't like the road noises, wind noises and the bumping sound every time you hit the bumps. I hate that. I do also love the CR-V because I have it for three year now and so far no problem with it yet and I only got 60,000 mile on it and its still drive like new because I do every 5000 mile maintenance. So overall. This Honda crv is a good car for its price.
Forever a Honda Owner
I'm a previous Accord/Civic/3 time Passport Owner. The 2002 CRV attracted my attention when they redesigned the interior/exterior and made it more powerful. I too experience the clicking noise and really notice it when at a drive-up MAC machine or in the drive thru at McD's or BK. What is this Honda???? The front passenger side got cheated for leg room but; hey, I never sit there... I love the reclining rear seats! The CRV has lots more storage room than the Passport. I still have not experienced the listed gas mileage. I trust Honda's reliability because I do not have time to take a vehicle to the shop!
Typical Honda Quality (The Best)
This is one solid vehicle. The 4 cylinder 160 HP engine has great low end power, and it is faster then the Ford Escape's V6 model. The engine is very smooth, very quiet, and very refined. It pulls 1,500 lbs trailer like it was nothing. The auto transmission shifts smooth as silk. The build quality is fantastic, and you can tell the engineers put lots of thought and imagination into designing the interior.
great car
sold my 2000 Honda crv and the difference is more then I expected especialy the pickup and the quietness of this car.
Old driver

Very disappointed
I guess it was my mistake... to go from a 6-cylinder vehicle to a 4-cylinder... but I was guaranteed it was the top of the line 4-cylinder! What I didn't realize was that I would never again be able to pass anyone without literally watching the gas deplete. And, if I have to pass anyone on a hill... well, LOL, that's a different story. I have to turn OFF the AC just to get up enough power to do so. My paint has chipped and rust spots have appeared all over my vehicle. Very disappointed.
Borderline Lemon
Purchased CRV new and have several issues with quality; moonroof motor burnt out @15000 miles, missing interior door switch, A/C out after 36000 miles (very expensive repair), rear bushings (replaced), driver side visor falls out, auto power up/down window stops working periodically, and constant rattle from rear of vehicle. CRV is not comfortable on long trips for any driver over 5'2". This has not been a typical reliable Honda.
After 10,400 miles
We've waited until after 10,400 miles in about 4 months. The thrill of buying a new vehicle has worn off, and reality has set in. Overall, we still think we got a great vehicle. We had the dealer to install: 1. window visors 2. mudflaps 3. a hard spare wheel cover (This was a major disappointment. The new hard cover for 2002 is nothing more than a "trash can lid". Save your money and go with the standard fabric cover - its not only cheaper - but it looks nicer. Small dings are in the hard plastic used to cover the columns near the doors - caused by unbuckling the seat belt and just letting it fly back on its own speed.
CRV
This is my first Honda! I absolutely love it!!!
On the fence
Did a lot of research before purchasing my CR-V. Traded in a Honda Accord V-6. I was really afraid the engine would be a big difference. I was wrong. Little to no difference. Gas mileage did take a dive though. Got better mileage with the V-6 for some reason. My biggest complaints are the loud road noise (due to the bridgestones) and I'm unable to clearly see out the back window due to 3 headrests. I keep the back seats down most of the time since I have few backseat passengers except the dog.
Nothing else to say.
Best car I ever bought.
