Just Love it!
It's a year later after purchasing the CRV from Honda and I simply love the ride. There is some noise on the back right side when you go fast, but for the price and value of the other features I have I really can't complain. So many people tell me how nice the car looks, I'm happy with the looks of the Honda CRV also. With the AC on the car does take a little more to get going.
I ABSOLUTELY love this truck!!!
The look of this truck brought me into test it out, the Honda reliability is what stood out. I absolutely love this truck.....it was definitely a good decision. I couldn't be happier.

Awesome and 100% Better than pre-2002 's
My husband and I awaited the release of the bigger, more powered 2002 CRV, as our 99 was underpowered and shifted way too poorly for our mountain living. The 2002 shifts like a gem, little if any transmission noise. Interior is much more comfortable and intuite, although the auto shifter takes a bit getting used to. All the Honda reliability, unique features and great mielage for an SUV. We are very happy with this buy.
GOOD
THIS IS A NICE SUV. THE LEGROOM IS A LITTLE SHORT BUT I CA WORK WITH IT ME BEING (6FOOT) AND ALL I STILL LOVE IT. MORE POWER AND GERAT PERFORAMANCE.
Almost bought a RAV4
I had a Toyota Camry but wanted something with a little higher profile so decided on a RAV4-couldn't make a deal though so I checked out the competition and discovered the CR-V, which is roomier and has more standard features than the RAV4. I'm so glad I checked it out. It's got a peppy 4cyl engine that likes to go and a smoother ride than I was expecting from an SUV- it's not trucklike at all. I loved my Camry for its smooth, quiet ride and this vehicle is not comparable in those areas but it is more fun to drive.
My First Honda may not be my last!
My wife and I looked at various "small SUVs" and picked the 2002 Honda CRV because of it's reliability, looks, added features, and economy. It is a real blast to drive. Very impressive 4 banger engine that get the CRV out of it's own way. Gas economy is excellant. I have read where people get around 15-16 mpg and I have only one thing to say to them. Either take you foot from the floorboarding the gas pedal or get your CRV fixed. We get around 21 around town and 26 on the highway with 87 octane gas. We love this vehicle!
Honda CRV - Accident Waiting to Happen
CR-V interior design and mechanical is great but it is an accident waiting to happen. Rear wheels kicking in while turning a corner on ice sends the car into a spin. The same on a wet curvy road w/suggested speed of 30 mph. The car began to skid while slower then suggested speed. When the brakes were used, the car went into a spin. Obviously the rear drive engaged where front-wheel drive alone is the safest. Why design a car without a four-wheel drive override? Why design a car allowing four-wheel drive over 20-35 mph? Insurance companies disallows ABS discounts for "on-demand" all-wheel drive cars. Wonder what they know that the consumers don't?
2 years and Done with CRV
We've owned this car for 30 months and 43K miles. Boy this car started to wear on us. Had to replace the tires, the Firestone tires were coming apart in little chunks. Every other OEM tire has lasted at least 65K. Armrests are terrible. The check engine light always comes on. Stereo is weak. The most odd thing is the handling on ice/snow. The car feels like it is sliding all over the place, even though it isn't. It always goes exactly where I pointed it but has a 'lateral slide' feel to it.... CRV has worn us out, but I have faith in Honda so on to the PILOT.
Love my first SUV
Very happy with my first SUV. Plenty of passenger room and lots of extra room when folding the seats down. Overall comfortable car too. Gas milage is excellent. Plenty of head room. Sunroof is awesome. Love that there's no center console; finally a place for my purse. Dislike hatch doors, so the barn door is great. The 6 disc changes is sweet; wish I had more watts though.
great suv
I love my CRV. I am going to buy another one this month and my husband is going to keep the one I have now. Everyone who gets in it can not believe how much room it has. I have been to Maine twice, Oklahoma and Penn. several times and have not had a problem yet.
Great Vehicle to Own
Having a Honda name is what lead me to test drive the CR-V. After doing extensive research on Honda and the CR- V, it is how I came to my final decision. The SUV handles shockingly well in icy or snowy conditions. I was amazed after the amount of snow fall we had last winter, how well this vehicle handled. It's almost like driving a car. I would (and have) recommended the CR-V to anyone. It's an excellent vehicle overall. Well worth the money. Everything you can possible want comes standard in it. I will definitely purchase another CR-V for my next vehicle in years to come.
Needs POWER
My CRV has performed well in city driving and on the super highways. I like the storage room in it and it is a good size for my needs. The AC works well and it gets good mileage when travelling on the interstates. There is however a loud humm that comes at about 37 MPH-40 MPH. The dealer does not seem to be able to figure out the problem. I also would like more leg room for the driver. My major concern is merging into traffic on the interstate. The car does not have enough power so that I feel like I am going to create an accident or be in one myself.
Too NOISY
If you want a quiet drive - forget it. The interior is so nosy that I almost have to turn the volume up on the radio full blast. Also no back support in the seat and small 10 gallon gas tank. For you long commuters, the car is very uncomfortable, LOUD on highway, and if you commute more than 40 miles each way you will need to fill your tank every other day. Buyers beware -- when test driving, dealers may have replaced with more expensive tires to cushion and muffle the sound. I am currently looking for another SUV.
I love my CRV
This has been a great vehicle. I love the size and the turning radius is excellent. A bit of a problem with blind spots, but I'd buy another.
improvements on 200 Honda CR-V.
The head rests, both front and back seats, interfer with looking over your shoulder when back, to see if you are clear. I took the rear seat ones out, but the front seat still cause a problem. The handle of the gear shift on the dash, should be a different shape. I am still not convinced it shoudl be where it is. Would rather have the tire inside, where the table currently is.
2002 CVR
This really is a good vehicle, but I'm surprised at how poorly the tires have held up, the paint quality is poor and has anyone ever backed-up into something???? I tapped another car in my driveway and was surprised at how the back side fell apart. The body side molding unattached itself from the metal and oh my what a dent! That was from a little tap rolling out of the garage. I am really beginning to worry how safe this car would be if it were rear ended. Has anyone encountered any rear end damage???
My 2002 Honda Crv Ex
My experiences have all been satisfactory. This is a well made car.
Gotta Love It
When looking for my second car, I knew I needed something with a lot of cargo space and good fuel economy. Of course I also wanted something stylish and fun to drive. I found that in my CR-V! It's got enough room to haul my band's equipment to shows when I've got the rear seats folded up. The iV-TEC engine has enough power to satisfy throttling down the interstate. And it has plenty of room to carry my friends from place to place! So far the only issue I've had is the glove compartment light stays on all the time; the switch isn't catching.
The best vehicle I have ever owned.
My 2002 CR-V EX is the fourth Honda I have owned and my eighth vehicle. My last four vehicles have all been Honda's. I don't have much negative to say about it. The only trouble I've experienced, has been with Gas Filler threads causing the Gas Cap to be a little hard to put on. I had one of the front stabilizer links to pop off on one end. Other than that it has been a great vehicle. It has over 100,000 miles on it, but looks, drives, feels and sounds like it only has 100 miles. I will probably never own anything but a Honda.
Honda Lemon???
Lot's of small problems, engine light (fixed on third dealer visit), noise in headliner (fixed after two visits), noise in drivers door (working on a fix), drivers seat rocking back and forth (fixed after four visits), headrests coming up by themselves (no fix) and last but not least, rattling noise in the sunroof (taken to dealer seven times, noise still there, told by Honda "it's normal for SUV to make noise like that") All in all, the car spent 1 month at dealers out of nine month that I had it. The dealer in this case tried everything possible to resolve the issues, but Honda did not even called me back after several complaints.
"Perfect CRV"!
I bought this SUV about three years ago.Traded in our honda civic for this suv.One of the best cars i have ever had. We have 45,000 miles on it right now, and no trouble whatsoever! But,its too small, and need something a little bigger.
Honda
Can never find anything wrong with this vehicle. Honda certified from the beginning.
Excellent SUV
Upon researching all the available midsize & small SUV's on the market for 3 months, I finally came upon this little jewel. I didn't consider it at first, because I had seen the older models on the road and didn't like the way they looked; it looked too small. I discovered that the 2002 models were redesigned on a Friday, test drove it on the following Monday, and purchased it on Tuesday. I have no regrets with my purchase.
Not as tight as my VW
Althought I do very much like the CRV, its build quality (fit and finish) is not comparable with my 2000 VW golf. The plastic body molding is out of alignment, the tires are not good at all (I've actaully replaced them already), and the cabin noise seems to be on the loud side. I wish it got better mileage as well.
Been happier
The check engine light has been on since we bought the car. The dealership tried 3 times to correct it but finally said the company was aware of the problem and would advise as soon as there was a solution. We are still waiting. We have received 2 recalls on it so far for other minor things. I bought a Honda over other brands because I was looking for a trouble free car. Granted, these are fairly minor problems but I was expecting more. I would not buy another one. I have had Subarus in the past and should have stayed with them.....just didn't like the styling of the Forester.
great vehicle
excellent vehicle--don't change a thing. the new body design is a master piece. very refined engine.
Do the 2002
The vehicle has certainly lived up to my expectations. I am still excited about the projected resale value! Although the CRV is not made for difficult off road travel, I have taken it into the woods camping on several occasions without any problems. It performs like a charm.
Very Happy
Since buying this automobile we have experinced "0" proplems, except rear left window motor broken. Honda will fix with no problems. Dealership is awsome. Car handles well. plently of leg room. Which we never had with our nissans. Gas mileage around 18-20. This is a outstanding vehicle. Our family is vey happy thanks honda.
Comparison to 98
Since I love my 98 CRV, I convinced my husband to trade in his 99 V6 Camry for the 2002 CRV! Since I drive both of them, I can point out the improvements/nonimprovements with 2002; Power! My husband is very satisfied with the 4-cyl 2002 CRV. Believe it or not, that's about it! Many other features have been changed in 2002 but not for the better. The Bridgestone tires that came with it are TERRIBLE during cornering on wet roads. We took them off at 7200 miles and put my used Michelins on them. Much better (but noisier). I have a tendency to overstear on the 2002 - I like the stearing on the 98 better.
Terrific, and not as small as you think
Like our old Accord, the CR-V handles very well. It's actually a lot of fun to drive quickly. However, the main reason I got this car is for its practicality. As parents of a young child, we were really looking for a durable family car, and the CR-V delivers. The car is extremely well designed inside and out. It's also much roomier (especially in the back seat) than the Escape and Rav4, both of which I have ridden in several times. Combine that with the 4WD and you've got a terrific all-weather family car. The smooth, high cubic-inch 4 cylinder is plenty for everyday drving and gets better gas mileage than a 6.
Andrew's Review
I love my CR-V. It is very reliable and super fun to drive! Never have had any major problems with it and is always ready to keep going. Pulls a small utillity trailer great and you could never tell it was there.
Nice Ride
Really enjoy my CRV 2002, the rides pretty good. I like the looks of this years model and felt like I brought a good quality vehicle. Nice Ride.
Best SUV I've owned
Well short and sweet, one of the best suvs for the price. I know it will last 250,000 plus no problem can anyone say that about their suv.
Honda 2002 CR-V
This is the third Honda I've owned, I only buy used cars now not new ones. I thought this was a good buy at a good price because of my experience with the other Honda's I've owned, boy was I mistaken. The Air Conditioning Compressor blew up only 2 weeks after I bought it, the Sales Manager refused to help pay for any of the repair or parts for the AC System. He said that he had sold me the car at a price that was so low that the dealership didn't really make any profit so he couldn't help with any of the repair. I had to pay $1974.97 to the Honda Dealership to replace the entire AC System since the compressor blew bits of metal were all in the system. Very disapointed.
crv
the crv is fun to drive . I love it . My husband is 6" 2 so it is a little tight for him. For me it is perfect. I m 5" 2
Nice Peppy SUV
I chose between this 2002 model, a 2004 Toyota Corolla and a 2003 Chevy Cavalier. It easily beats out the Cavalier. But I was really torn the first month if I had made a good purchase. But the more I've driven it the more I'm impressed. Very easy to drive, smooth, quiet, nice turning radius. Easy reach to cruise control, radio and console. It has great pickup for passing the 18 wheelers on the interstate. I'm getting 24-26 miles/gallon. It's just fun to drive.
Everything is great but the paint!
This is a great little SUV. We did some research prior to replacing our incredible 1989 Camry wagon, and based on safety tests, interior design and the vehicle's handling, we went with the CRV. However, the one glitch is the paint job. Our Chianti red paint is chipping off the hood at an incredible rate! At 2 years of age, the hood and front fenders are in far worse shape than our 13 year old Camry. The rest of the vehicle seems to scratch very easily as well.
not what I expected form Honda
I just bought the crv for 2 days. Already there're defective noises in the rear (right) whenever I press the brakes. Moreover, I have found out that the front passenger's door handle is missing an internal plastic part. Does Honda really build cars so good that they command higher prices when compared to their peers? I don't think so.
Thinking of a darn good mini SUV?
Since purchasing this suv in 3/02 it has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. Every car, especially first year redesigns such as the '02 CRV, has minor glitches. The check engine light periodically came on when the car was new because of a software bug-dealer updated software and solved the problem! The other problems are to minor to list. Tires, on the other hand, are something this truck loves to eat! After 30,000 miles give or take expect to purchase a new set. Those issues aside I would highly recommend this vehicle and expect to drive it 'problem free' for many more miles!
Best Small SUV
This is used primarily as a tow-behind-our-motorhome vehicle, and as our 2nd-car home vehicle. It excels at both. It's light & pulls safely & reliably with 4 wheels on the ground, has 4 speed automatic, is powerful enough to use off-road, and delivers a solid 28 mpg. The best investment a motorhome owner could make. We live at high altitude in Colorado, and have plenty of power to go over steep mountain passes on cruise control @ 65+mph, and when shifted to 3rd gear, the tough little engine has enough compression to handle downgrades without braking. It handles reliably in snow and on ice. After almost 4 years of use, only routine service has been done. No repairs required.
first time paid over invoice
have only put on less than 400 miles so far. 2001 camry stolen, replaced it with the cr-v. paid 500 over invoice after haggling and searching more than i have ever done. paid below invoice for the camry and the accord before that. for those of you who dont know, invoice is not dealer cost, nor even close.
My Awesome CRV
I've owned Hondas since 1988 and currently own a 1999 Odyssey EX and my AWESOME 2002 CRV! I've owned many other makes & have taken them all into high mileage. My Hondas have OUTPERFORMED them all! I intend on teaching my kids how to drive a manual in my CRV (the oldest is 4). I will never own another make---HONDAS RULE!!!
Very Impressed!
I test drove the RAV4, Passat, Accord, Outback, Suburu WR-X and chose the CR- V. In my mind the CRV took the prize for having the best of my needs in a vehicle: handling, price, economy, interior room and design. And it's a honda! I love the vehicle.
Lack of Oxygen
Purchased the car new and currently have 53,250 miles. I have enjoyed the car and it has performed up to Honda quality and reliability standards except for this recent experience. Both of the oxygen sensors failed at the same time and had to be replaced at 53,000 miles.
Good but uncomfortable
I have 2002 CRV for the last 18 months. It is good, reliable but the ride is very bumpy and harsh (a nice way to put it is "sports" ride with road feel). The tires (Bridgestone dueller) are worn out at 30K. Engine had idling problems - dealer replaced a CVT valve - made a small difference. Seats have very low padding. Thinking of trading for a Highlander.
Lots of problems?
I had several bad experince on this car. The first problem was there's a burning smell on the engine. Dealer said its normal for new vehicle. The smell went away only after 10K miles (or got used to it). The second problem is the clicking noise whenever I hit the breaks the first time after its park for a few hours. Dealer says that's normal. #$#@!! Anyway, I'm stuck with it so I'll mention its a nice drive.
2002 CRV
Great car. Replaced older CRV. Nice upgrades from older model. Good gas mileage. Disappointed in highway/road noise when driving. Great storage area. Seats fold down flat. Never used portable table. Cover over back area important for security. Tires replaced at about 50,000 miles. Seats are firm. Shift lever looks awkward, but I have never noticed any awkwardness with it.
2002 crv
This is the best car I have eaver had - - rides like a car, room to carry home stuff from Home Depot, comfortable, and just high enough to see around those other monster SUVs out there. 22+ mpg in city traffice helps too!
Love our new honda crv
We have driven our new 2002 crv for 2000 miles and just love it so far. Getting 26 mpg combined driving. Engine very strong for it's size. Transmission shifts really smooth and at just the right times. Nice quiet ride except for some road noise from tires. Handles extremely well with little or no lean in corners. Nice center feel to the steering.
I Expected Better From Honda
In two years I've had 4 recalls on the vehicle. I had to replace the tires at 26000 miles, the breaks make a god- awful noise(the dealer says it's normal)and there is a clunking noise on the front suspension that can't be identified. Very disappointed since this is my first(& probably last Honda. This vehicle would never have gotten off the line if it was made in Japan.
