Bike Rider's Value Vehicle
I chose this type of vehicle because I wanted my bicycle to fit inside, standing upright. It was important to me to keep both the outside dimensions and price as small as possible. The CRV was my best choice after looking at the Escape and RAV 4. The list price was $19,260 and I was able to get $560 off. I wonder if buyers will get better deals as time goes by. This is my first foreign vehicle and am looking forward to the "legendary" Honda quality and durablity. So far so good except for intermittant light on dash board for engine emissions problem.
2002 crv
We love our Honda CRV. A few things do bother us. We also took out our rear center head rest due to visability problems. Interior plastic shows all finger prints & smudge marks. and my biggest complaint is the fuel tank. it never takes more than 12 gallons of fuel. Instead of having a much higher cruising range we only get less than 275 total miles on a tankfull. I hate the constant gas tank fillups. My wife loves the crv and we would get another one if we had to do it over again. engine light had also come on in 2 instances.

Satisfied
Very pleased with CRV. No complaints. Take out one of the back head rests for better view to the rear.
crv!
Everything is perfect. When I did my researh for a new car I looked at everything and the new 2002 HOnda CRV was a no brainer!
fun to ride and affordable
performance is tremendous. very fun to drive and depndability and reliability is a factor
Super reliable fun CR-V
I love my CR-V, drive more than average, never have had any major problems just regular expected maintenance. Honda's are just built like rocks, this is my third and not my last!
Nice ride!
Very responsive steering. Eases in and out of corners. The passenger's cabin is *very* quiet. Ride is very smooth. The car just feels well built. For a so called "mini SUV" this thing has nearly as much interior leg room than the mid-size Toyota Highlander. For the money I don't think you can buy a better mini SUV. Some new CR-Vs are being delivered with a slight steering problem. Like mine, they pull to the right about 5- 10 degrees. To make a long story short, after showing the dealer some complaints from others on the 'net who have experienced the same problem he agreed to do a 4-wheel alignment which fixed the problem. Speakers are weak with mid-range frequencies.
I Loved My Little CR-V!
I bought my 2002 CR-V EX 2WD used, in 2007 & I absolutely LOVED it. It ran beautifully, never once had to undergo repairs, got wonderful gas mileage & was just an overall reliable vehicle--the perfect first car! They are cute little SUVs, typically owned by more females. The interior features are eye-catching & unique & for a smaller SUV, they have impressive storage capacity & spacey passenger room. Mine ran beautifully up to the day I was involved in a head-on collision, and even then I found good news--it's a pretty sturdy little car! I am now searching for another '02 CR-V; I won't drive any other vehicle!
CRV review
I love my CRV. I only had 1 problem with the rotars on my brakes that needed to be replaced. I had to wait almost a week for replacemnts! Other than that every that drives my car loves it.
editors dont know how to rate this vehic
this is without a doubt the finest suv on the market in any size. anyone who would consider a ford or a jeep or hyundai or toyota is throwing their money away.
BEST CAR DECISION I'VE EVER MADE
The CRV is fun, plenty roomy and practical for shlepping kids and their stuff to games and lessons, doing shopping and taking long trips. It's roomier and peppier than my old, larger Pathfinder. The seats are very comfortable and visibility excellent. I'm getting 24- 25 mpg! The picnic table is useful for soccer games. No wind noise from moon roof or open windows. I'm in love and now my husband wants a CRV.
My Honda
It is likely more typical to write a review when you have had, or are having, a problem. This thought occurred to me reading through some of the posts here re: unexpected and expensive problems. Thought I would tell you about my experience. Bought my CR-V used in 2006 with 52,000 miles on it - now, 106,000. Other than changing the oil with high quality synthetic every 3500 miles & buying a new battery, I did nothing else to it until last month. Had to get new tires and the back brakes done. Also took it to the Honda Dealership & had them do all of the scheduled maint. to date (overdue). Every fluid changed - $600 poorer. But think I'm good now for another 100,000 miles. Love the car.
Love my CR-V
Bought my CR-V EX a few weeks ago and I love it. I wanted EX and most I could get off MSRP was $500. So my brother found a demo model with 5,000 miles with a roof rack .....I got 1500 off MSRP with the roof rack. I think I got a good deal. People don't pay sticker....they will give at least 300 off. Trust me I called every honda dealer in new york new jersey area. So far i love this car. Only complaints is this whisling noise (sounds like wind) i hear when driving on highway....anyone else have a problem with that??? Maybe a small air leak in sunroof?????? Otherwise it is so smooth and quiet.
2002 CRV EX
Our experience with the 2002 Honda CRV has been amazing. The CRV has a very solid feel about it, build quality is outstanding. It has plenty of power to merge with traffic & can hum right along at 70 mph. The CRV can make turns that are nearly 90 degrees from a stop with a quick turn of the wheel. The interior space of the CRV is cavernous. We hauled a large dryer after folding up the rear seats and a recliner in back WITHOUT folding them up. The front 3 cup holders can all handle McDonalds' Supersized sodas. This dependable little bugger fits in perfectly for most families & won't break the bank with a top price under $23k. This is by far the best of the bunch in the Mini-Ute Class.
really fun to drive car
i recenlty purchased the lx model, this car has a lot of standard features for the money which i love. i have been searching for a car since 9- 01. I know this car will provide me with the quality and reliablity i want, i traded in a dodge mini van which i did not feel comfortable with in the quality dept. I was seriously thinking of purchasing the chevy trailblazer i know i ended up with the better built car with a better resale value
Good Mini SUV needs some changes
Good gas mileage. Good room interior. Great to drive around town. But need more HP for the steep hills. The stereo should be moved donw a bit. Some road noise on Highway. Firm seating could be more comfortable. Nice vehicle, but not impressive.
Traded 325iC
Finally got married, bought an acreage, the Bimmer ragtop felt out of place in the country. BMW was the first time I strayed from Honda/Acura and although the Germans have it in the image dept., for most of us, it's not a practical only car. Cost of insurance, repairs, reliability offended my sense of value. I feel intelligent having bought the CR- V - unbeatable value/quality for the $$
Almost perfect
We've had our CR-V for a few weeks and it's been great!! Great fuel economy, good handling (for a mini-ute), solid construction. We had a Grand Vitara as a loaner car while our other car was in the shop, and it was a HUGE difference. Even with the V6 it felt less powerful than the CR-V.
Recently Purchased CRV
My Husband loves this vehicle. He says it fits like a glove and couldn't be more comfortable. I am short and find that the headrest are bothersome to me. Also the seats have wings on the back and I find that to be somewhat uncomfortable on my arms and back. I think the seats could be softer also since it is a pricier mini SUV. So the seats are my only real complaint. Great otherwise!!
I love it!
We just bought the EX and couldn't be happier. This car has everything we were looking for and on top of that it's a Honda.
Great Value
It's a great value and those of you looking into the Explorer or comparable sized vehicles should check out the CR-V. It has a ton of space and is much better on gas than an Explorer. About the only reason I could think to opt for something bigger would be towing. You don't get a good towing capacity with the CR-V, although its load capacity is equal to or greater than some larger SUV's.
Great Car with low Maintenance Costs
Bought it brand new and now have 104K miles. No trouble other than a AC switch ( $450 ). Low cost SUV and a pretty safe one at that. Love it.
My 2nd Honda...
The fake 'dead-pedal' is poorly designed for your clutch-foot. The EX manual has no armrest in front! The stereo is too far away for anyone shorter than an NBA star - changing CD tracks requires you lean over as if you are getting something out of the glove box. The front seats could use more bolstering. The carpet is awfully cheap. The headliner rattles. The power windows on the CR-V won't operate in the auxiliary key positions. Ive experienced some torque steer under high-powered starts. The stereo needs more power. The tailgate is rather unwieldy.
CRV - There's only one
I was heartbroken when we had to trade our 98 Cherokee in for a CRV - I was loyal Jeep driver since I was 14. The market is flush with over-powered off-road vehicles. We just need enough car to get us through the snow and haul some mulch and baby stuff without needing a second mortgage for gasoline. Honda has met a long-needed segment of the market - relatively fuel efficient, all-wheel-drive vehicles which are reliable and spacious. Of course, it's a Honda, so it's nearly bullet-proof.
Kent's Excelent CRV adventure
WOW! I love this thing!!!! It's cool looking, fun to drive and rides and drives like a bigger and more expensive psuedo SUV. After having owned a Toyota 4Runner, Land Cruiser and an assortment of other 4 wheel and 2 wheel drive cars including a 1991 black Accord EX 4 door with a 5 speed (loved it). Great Interior space for a 6 footer, but lacks more comfortable (adjustable) seats, better bolstering and it lacks a real Dead Peddle
Life is one compromise after another
I agree with many of the other reviews. After much research, mostly at edmunds.com, I felt the CR-V (LX) was the best vehicle on paper. Finding one for sale at a decent price was almost impossible (I had to pay MSRP, and felt lucky at that). Great ride; very car-like, not as "busy" or choppy as the RAV-4. Engine is quiet, smooth and NO TIMING BELT! Great leg room, especially in back. Plenty of room with fold-up seats
Simply the best
Drive it you will love it. SUV $10,000 more are not as good as this. All around a greay vehicle.
Outstanding Vehicle!
I love my new Honda Crv so much...I have not found one thing wrong with it. It has a lot of power, the design is beautiful inside and out. I looked at the Ford Escape, Mazda Tribute, and the Toyota Rav 4...and the CRV beat them all. I did have to pay sticker price though, they wouldn't come off even $10...and basically said, if I didn't want to pay that, someone else would so they did't care much. They are being sold before they are even on the lot! The wait is about 3 weeks. I think the Crv's are well worth the msrp price. I highly recommend this vehicle!
Great Vehicle
I was less than impressed by the power of the previous version, but liked the quality and versatility. The new model is a whole level beyond the 2001 model and I feel has been underrated by the "editors" on the Edmunds site. The power is almost V6-like in most applications and the handling is very competent if not exciting. I fault the somewhat low fuel economy and road noise as less than excellent. The door rub guards actually serve a purpose. I found no problem with the cup holders as indicated in the editor review nor tire performance. Quality is first rate as is the "feel" of the vehicle. Solid, fun, and very capable.
Multiple Replacements of Rear Brakes
My wifes CRV...a great car with only one outstanding exception. Multiple complete Replacements of the rear brake systems, complete calipers and rotors. Due to complete lockups of the rear brakes, the first replacement of calipers and rotors was performed under warranty at about 16,000 miles. Honda covered it. Second replacement was and about 37,000 miles, Honda covered that even though past 36,000 miles. Dealer said a bad batch of calipers were used in the first replacement session. (OK, then why the 2nd freeze up?) Then a THIRD replacement was necessary of the calipers and rotors at about 58,000 due to another freezeup and warping the rotors, At our cost. Disappointing. Great Car though
My Review
Excellent
My new CRV
We purchased the new CRV for our growing family (new baby in July!). We were sold on the safety features and the numerous extras that came with the EX model. It passed its first test when we had to stuff a dresser in it, the seats flipped up beautifully and everything fit! The 6-disc cd changer is a bit noisy as it switches and I would love it if Honda would put in heated seats (like a comparably priced Subaru does). And why no daytime running headlights? We are happy with the acceleration and power. We looked at the Ford Escape, Hyundai Santa Fe and the Jeep Liberty. Honda was the best value for space, options and price all-around.
Happy CR-V Owner
We have a 2000 manual LX and liked it so much we bought a second. The new model is much more powerful, and a very smooth ride. We also liked that the new models offered Moon Roof. lots of extras and the automatic is very smooth
Fun to drive
I used to own 2000 Mitsubishi Montero sport and I traded in for the CRV. Good handling, acceleration, braking and very comfortable in long trips. When I get to a complete stop and I go reverse then I apply the breaks I hear a clunking noise. I called the several dealers and they told me that is a Honda new break design to increase the break ventilation. I am not sure if I buy that explanation, but again I do not know any one else that has the same car. I would appreciate any feedback. Overall great SUV for the money and fun to drive. I totally recommend it.
More than enough Power
This is a nice mini SUV to have. We traded in a Windstar with a V6 for this 4 banger CRV and the CRV feels more powerful while being quieter doing it. Shortly after buying this vehicle we drove it from Ohio to Florida down through the mountains and and this SUV far out ran many other cars through the mountains using the cruise control. Of course this would never top my V6 Accord on level ground it does hold it own. Interior is comfortable, and ride is still smooth with easy turning and parking raduis. No trouble parking this small-ute. Four wheel kicks in nice on slick roads with out jolting into gear. Nice all around product.
Excellent value!
Owned 2 Honda Civics (88 & 01) and never thought of getting an SUV (fad/gas guzzlers) but girlfriend wanted an AWD for winter skiing. The 2002 CR-V (EX) Auto is just the perfect choice. At $22.2K (dest charge inc), this CR-V is very solidly built, peppy enough, yet very efficient. It handles well & the ride is comfortable. Road noise is as expected and is more like that of a Honda Civic than an Accord.
Strait tens!!
Test drive it. All I can say is that ''It's a Honda.''
People's Car
Everyone who sees and or rides in mine assumes it's a run of the mill $30,000 car instead of a sub $20K one. (Editors never fully seem to appreciated this accessability.) And of course, there's always that piece of mind, in those cold and wintery days, knowing you're in a Honda.
Excellent overall
Researched SUV's for about 8 months and finally decided on the CRV after my wife asked me to test drive it. I loved it immediately. When I compared numbers on paper I was even more impressed, I will guarante that you will not find a vehicle in this class/range with the combination of efficiency, safety, reliability, affordability, and fun. Also, don't let some errors in recent advertising deceive you, the CRV tied with Subaru Forester for best in class for safest vehicle by the current IIHS data (www.iihs.org). This is my third Honda purchase (2 Accords previously), you will find better warranties out there, but you won't need one with a Honda.
They've done it again!
Honda never ceases to amaze me. I am a new CR-V owner after making the mistake of owning a Saturn product for years. After driving my CR-V for several weeks, I am sold on its quality, performance, design, and all around value. If you really look at the build quality of this SUV versus competing models, it is hard to beat. If you buy on the basis of price...you are going to get what you pay for. It comes with more standard features and 10 years from now it will still be going strong. Are there cheaper mini-utes out there? Sure...but I promise you this...you will get what you pay for.
Best: And Cheaper than a Lexus
It only took one short test drive to convince us the CR-V was the car for us. We've taken highway trips that were as comfortable as any sedan. It has been used to haul all sorts of things and never needs babying. Our first Honda but it sure won't be the last. Now if I can just get my wife to look at the S-2000 during a test drive.
honda crv 2002
i have this vehicle for 6 months now and it has fulfilled my needs so far. for an SUV its size - i must say its value is hard to beat. i considered the Rav 4 , ford escape and mazda tribute - all of which i IMO did not compare to the total value of the CRV.
CRV REVIEW
GOT MY CRV IN JUNE. I ABSOLUTLY LOVE IT ALL AROUND. RESPONDING TO ANGELICA'S REVIEW ON 1/12/02 (ALMOST PERFECT). MY CRV HAS THAT SAME CLICKING NOISE IN THE DASH AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. HOPEFULLY THE NOISE WILL BE RESOLVED. OTHER THAN THAT ITS A GREAT MINI SUV.
Awesome and 100% Better than pre-2002 's
My husband and I awaited the release of the bigger, more powered 2002 CRV, as our 99 was underpowered and shifted way too poorly for our mountain living. The 2002 shifts like a gem, little if any transmission noise. Interior is much more comfortable and intuite, although the auto shifter takes a bit getting used to. All the Honda reliability, unique features and great mielage for an SUV. We are very happy with this buy.
GOOD
THIS IS A NICE SUV. THE LEGROOM IS A LITTLE SHORT BUT I CA WORK WITH IT ME BEING (6FOOT) AND ALL I STILL LOVE IT. MORE POWER AND GERAT PERFORAMANCE.
Great Car
dont go in there thinking this is an off road vehicle just go in there thinking the comfort as apposed to a regular car and size and protection the accelerartion is great very spacious inside and very unique
Almost bought a RAV4
I had a Toyota Camry but wanted something with a little higher profile so decided on a RAV4-couldn't make a deal though so I checked out the competition and discovered the CR-V, which is roomier and has more standard features than the RAV4. I'm so glad I checked it out. It's got a peppy 4cyl engine that likes to go and a smoother ride than I was expecting from an SUV- it's not trucklike at all. I loved my Camry for its smooth, quiet ride and this vehicle is not comparable in those areas but it is more fun to drive.
My First Honda may not be my last!
My wife and I looked at various "small SUVs" and picked the 2002 Honda CRV because of it's reliability, looks, added features, and economy. It is a real blast to drive. Very impressive 4 banger engine that get the CRV out of it's own way. Gas economy is excellant. I have read where people get around 15-16 mpg and I have only one thing to say to them. Either take you foot from the floorboarding the gas pedal or get your CRV fixed. We get around 21 around town and 26 on the highway with 87 octane gas. We love this vehicle!
2002 Honda CR-V
This is the second Honda CR-V I've owned and I bought both of them used. My wife totaled our other one which was a 1999 model while trying to avoid hitting a deer, I wish she had just totaled the deer, it would have done less damage but, instead she veered off the road and hit a huge rock in a ditch and it cracked the transmission and obliterated the front end suspension. We have never had any problems out of either or our CR-V's other than that. I have plenty of power for a 4 cylinder, it'll do turnpike and interstate speeds all day long with no problem, and I can pull a small boat with it. The gas mileage is decent 24-26 highway and 19-21 around town.
First Honda, First SUV
I love this car! It is fun & sporty to drive and turns on a dime. By the looks of it, people think I paid WAY more then I did. The only problem I have experienced is that CR-V does pull to the right. Also, when I drive it in reverse it makes a whining sound...not sure yet if this is normal or not. (it is an automatic transmission) Anyone else out there have that problem? All in all it is a wonderful vehicle.
