Ford does not care! Buy something else.
There is nothing to add as I do not have the car anymore. I traded it in after the first year. I would not put up with such a defective car. The following are past ratings: I only kept the car for less than a year due to its defect. I don't know if Ford solved the problem but the Ford Representative told me they would not correct it and only on future models might there be a correction. So, what about all the ones that were defective? Again, Ford does not care. I will never cross their doorway again and I recommend this to all. There is nothing new to add. I do not own this car anymore and will NEVER buy a Ford again. The only thing I have to add is that I do not recommend buying a Ford as they would not repair my problem or on all the other Escapes with the same problem. What a black eye on them. Read the following for the situation. Ford must not care about their customers. Just sell the car and be done with it must be their motto. Their actual response from a company representative to me was, "nothing is perfect, deal with it". I did and it is gone. I only kept it for one year and that was too long. It has been over eight years since I traded in the Ford Escape for another SUV. Nothing has changed in my opinion of the Escape or Ford's attitude and response to it. The original review follows. The dash lights are suppose to automatically dim with the ambient light. Therefore, the dash lights remain on full bright making seeing out difficult. Mine don't and I have had it in the shop several times but to no avail. Since Ford would not repair the car and did not care about their customers, I traded it in for another much better car after one year of ownership. The new car is not a Ford and I will NEVER buy a Ford product of any type again! A Ford Representative said, "that is tough, nothing is perfect and just deal with it". (I did by getting rid of the car) There is no advisory on it yet and so they do not have a fix. (I am sure they have totally forgotten about their past customers now) I was told they don't plan to make a repair on this one. Maybe on next year's model they will. But according to Ford technicians, they know it is not working correctly. What a poor way to design a car. It is a sad fact that Ford will build such complex cars but are unable or unwilling to correct them. Other threads I have read on the internet are experiencing this same problem. Ford does not care.

Disappointing! It's been a bumpy ride.
This car has given me quite a headache the last couple months. First of all, the FWD version is absolutely terrible in the snow. The dealership told me that I wouldn't need 4x4....and I listened. I live in Michigan, and on the day of a small snow storm, I literally saw five Ford Escapes similar to mine STUCK! Of course I need 4x4. The traction control in this vehicle is horrible. (I also need for the car to not take 20 minutes to heat up/cool down....that'd be nice). Next, trying to get this car to accelerate is like watching paint dry. I'll be gray before I can get this thing to 70 mph. Also, above the passenger door is water damage from some sort of leak. Not sure if it's the windshield or if it is something else, but I felt it once when it was raining and it was soaking wet. The biggest problem I have with this vehicle right now is that the passenger door won't lock. The car will beep twice when I try to lock it (it usually only beeps once.) I just ignored it at first, but when it started happening more frequently, I went around to see if all the doors were locked. Sometimes when I go around and slam each door, it'll lock....but it hasn't worked the last few times I've tried it. I've been putting off trying to schedule maintenance on the car for the last couple months, but now I have no choice. I don't feel safe in the vehicle, and the fuel economy is absolutely horrendous. This car is a complete disappointment and I can't wait to trade it in for something else.

great escape!
2014 Escape Titanium, what a great car. have had no problems in a year and 25000 miles. mpg consistently high 20's. transmission shifts oddly but that is explained in owners manual. not bad, just different. Only weak point is design of console storage, very deep and narrow. Handles like a sports car. Looked at CRV and RAV 4 when we purchased it. They remind me of kitchen appliances. Got great deal, $5000 off and 0% for 72 mo

Happy so Far
We bought a 2014 Ford Escape SE with leather interior and the 1.6L ecoboost. We have about 1000 miles on it and so far and are happy with our purchase at this point. So far we are averaging about 23.5 MPG in town and 26.5 MPG on the highway. Ford states the break in period is 1000-2000 miles and then you should start noticing your actual gas mileage. I am hoping the HWY MPG does increase to at least 30 MPG as advertised. We have taken a couple of 90 mile trips in the vehicle and was very comfortable to drive
I hate this vehicle
At 67,000 miles I had to rebuild my engine ($6,000). The timing chain broke, should not break! At 105,000 miles, my transmission went out. Guess what ford did...NOTHING! I have never had such awful service from 2 different dealers
