This engine holds a bad secret

While this vehicle has many great features it hides a bad thing that will sink you. The engine has timing chains that have a known defect. I wish I knew this before I spent my money. The repair cost is a new engine which will cost about $5,000 and takes about 8-15 hours to replace. When all is said and done you will spend $10,000 to repair. If you own a earlier version 2007-2009 it’s covered. If you buy a 2012 it will not be.

Just Another Traverse Horror Story

Words will fail to express the complete disappointment we have for this vehicle and for GM's unwillingness to do anything about it. Bought it used in the Fall of 2014. Gave us some hiccups over the 4 years and e.g., @ ~50K miles we drove it e.g., power steering pump failed completely (not uncommon for these vehicles). Otherwise great car up for the spouse. Good size, handled well in modest snow. MPG was horrible but an overall smooth, quiet comfortable ride. She loved it.....Up until the transmission failed catastrophically and w/o warning late in the fall of 2018 @ ~115K miles. As described in other posts and throughout the web the car - again w/o power warning decelerated the dash lit up with all types of warning messages and pretty little lights. Door locks began to lock and unlock and warning chimes started sounding. Was not sure if the car needed a mechanic or a priest to perform an exorcism. This car has been faithfully maintained with the same dealer for all 4 years. Was initially told the original battery may have done bad things to the transmission control unit which in turn smoked the tranny. Replaced the battery since that was the recommendation ~$450!. Yup - tranny was smoked. Still owed 18 mos on the loan so - after much deliberation and saving for the repair - we elected to replace to the transmission. Some headaches with the install - getting the new TCU to talk to the main computer. They get that solved and dealer tech takes the car out on the road to test the repair and the motor seizes up! Again no warning, nothing!. Mechanic tells me he is sorry and is sympathetic and advises me to call GM.... something about how the transmission must have stressed the motor even though there was not data to support the engine over revving or otherwise being stressed. I am now $4K into a repair with nothing to show for it and now looking at another $7K to replace the motor... and, oh, we still owe $6K on the original loan. So, all in, looking at $17.5K on a 7 year old vehicle. BTW $17K was was we paid for it in 2014!!!! Not holding out hope that my good friends at GM Customer Service (the incident is now at Tier 2 Cust Service) will do anything - why would they, right? I am a 5 time Chev owner - just bought a Silverado from them.... There is just no way that a vehicle at this age and miles should have failed so completely - not in this day and age. GM should be ashamed!

Traction DANGER!!!

Today 9/9/2018 I was on my way to church this morning. I get not even a third of the way there and my car takes me from 45 mph to a quick 15 mph without warning!!!!!!!!!!!! I pulled over and just shut my car off because I was scared. This is not the first time that this has happened to me. The last time it happened I was on the highway coming back from chemotherapy and I had my kids in the car. THIS IS NOT SAFE!!!!! Whenever I did call my dealership and took it up there for them to see, I could not duplicate the issue. I do not feel safe in my car and I honestly don't want it anymore. I need to have a car that I can depend on to get to my appointments. I have already had to fight one HUGE monster with my health, I surely don't need anything else to happen to me or my children.

I purchase vehicles for long term. I am currently driving my second Chevy 2500 series truck with over 200k miles. Could never say anything bad about the trucks. So, I had no problem agreeing to purchase our 2012 Traverse as certified pre-owned from a dealer in 2013 with under 20k miles with the hopes of driving it to 200k miles. Not the case. Well before 100k miles we loose AWD and have to replace the entier rear end. We opted for a 7000 mile salvage rear end ($1800) over the dealers (chevrolet of Wasilla)($3600) rear end. Work is done by Chevrolet of Wasilla with salvaged rear. Before a year goes by my wife comes home from a dealer oil change with a $3500 estimate to replace the entire power steering system. I’ve never had to replace an entire steering system on any vehicle, pump maybe. Come to learn this is a common defect in GM vehicles dating back to 2009. GM does a “hush” special warranty but our vehicle is not covered even though the system is still garbage. 10 months and 13,000 miles after our rear end replacement, the new one is leaking fluid. Not covered becuase it’s 1000 over the warranty. Facing $7000 of repairs, I refuse to put any money to such a bad vehicle. Starting to learn Traverses have a bad reputation as money pits. I’m really hoping the dealer will step up to help us out of the vehicle and into a Tahoe. Also hoping that Tahoe’s are still reliable. Shame on GM for producing such garbage and not standing behind it. Is that the thanks tax paying citizens get from a company who needed a bail out to keep going? You can’t produce a vehicle that can make 200k miles with regular maintenance and minor repairs.? When you design a bad steerign system you don’t attempt to correct it? Embarrassment to America, nice job.

I bought a new Traverse last month and I really like car, except for the headrest. The headrest sticks out so far, it gives me a pain the neck. There is no way to turn it around, or have it go far enough back to not cause the problem. So when you test the drive, be aware of this and make sure you fit into the seat as it is designed.

We purchased my 2013 Traverse pre-owned in January 2016. It was a GM Certified Pre-owned that did have warranty coverage. I will say that I LOVE how it drives for such a large SUV. I love the back up camera and sensors as well. We were generally comfortable, even on long road trips. My husband did complain of knee-room while driving, but he is 6'5" so he is taller than the norm. My problems began with the first oil change, they found an oil leak and had to remove the engine to find it. They also noticed that my timing chains were loose and went ahead and tightened those. A few months later, the blower for the rear A/C went out completely and had to be replaced (almost a week in the shop). That September we were returning from vacation and an A/C hose "popped" while we were driving down the interstate and we were stuck in Alabama an extra day. At the beginning of this year, as I was driving home from my mom's, all the lights on my dash starting going off, I couldn't move my steering wheel, and my engine shut off ( I was in the middle of a curve on a backroad with my toddler in the car). I was able to coast to a safe spot and had the car towed to the dealership. This was caused by "catastrophic engine failure" and had to replace my engine. Everything up to this point has been covered under warranty (Thank goodness!) Two days ago, the same thing happened with the addition of a squealing noise. This time my A/C compressor locked up. So this twice that my car has completely shut off while driving down the road (with my son in it) and this repair is going to cost me almost $2200.00. If I had to pay for all of these repairs I would have spent $7-10,000.00! I have spent about a month and a half in demo cars total because of time that my car was being repaired. I will say that the dealership and service that I deal with is FANTASTIC and they are helping me find a comparable vehicle to do an even trade and are giving me a good value for my car, and I am so thankful for that. I may have bought the one truly defective Traverse, but it has been nothing but a headache from the get-go.

2012 Traverse 30-Day Review

This is my daily commuter from the mountains to the city. The Traverse is exceptionally comfortable to drive and handles the steep and curvy mountain roads with ease. Plenty of passing power and, despite some of the other complaints, I think the visibility to the side and rear is fine. I've never been in a quieter car...little to no road or wind noise. Everything is within easy reach and the interior is cavernous! Even though there is seating for 8 I don't use the 3rd row. The rear is strictly used for cargo and comes in handy with monthly trips to Costco! I looked at several other models and decided the Traverse topped them all.

If you're looking for an 8 passenger SUV with the most storage of any vehicle in it's class than this is the car for you. It doesn't do any one thing better than any other car but it doesn't do anything badly either. You're not going to race around corners or do zero to sixty in anything worth mentioning but that isn't the point of this car. It is a great family and stuff hauler. The AWD system is great in bad weather giving you the confidence to go where and when you need to go. Maintenance costs have been negligible and it has been perfectly (knock wood) reliable. If safety is a concern, well bigger is always better. Yes, I'd buy it again if I still had a need for a vehicle this size.

The Good: Space (lots of it). Have fit five adults, two infants in car seats, a dog and a stroller in the car before. Cargo area is plenty big, even with the third row up; While heavy on acceleration, actually turns quite nimbly for its size; Comfortable ride in every seat - third row can accommodate a small adult for normal trips, and a larger male for short trips. Bad: Gas mileage (~17), cargo door not very wide/tall Overall: Would definitely buy again; this car fit my exact needs for something safe for my infant twin sons, large enough to carry their stuff, but stylish enough for a 32-year old man who refused to own/drive a minivan. Gas mileage sucks, but didn't buy for that.

We bought this car in 2013. It was one year old and had 15,000 miles on it. Soon after we bought it we started noticing a noise. It was a grinding noise. After several times going into the dealership for repairs they determined it was the drive train that had gone out. luckily it was under warranty. The previous owners had taken the remote to the entertainment system and all but one set of headphones. Now we have never figured out how to make the movie play to the internal stereo it only plays to the headphones. The seat warmer on the drivers seat will turn on but turns off 1 min later and wont turn back on. The glove box connector broke making it so the glove box falls out onto the floor now. Then a year ago the alternator went out freezing up the car so we couldn't even jump start it. For some reason there is a anti theft system that kicks in when the battery is dead and you have to take it to the dealership to get your key out of the ignition. Then also a year ago the air in the car started blowing really hot air on the drivers side and cold air everywhere else when the A/C is on. Now the car has 75,000 and the computer just went out on it. The alternator also died again. I put my key in the ignition last night and the car ate my key and I had to tow it to the dealer to have everything fixed. This is a car that they don't want you working on, but yet it is broken all the time.

Overall, I am very pleased with the purchase of this vehicle. However, there are a couple of things that I have found perplexing to say the least. First, the check engine light continues to come on at various times. It does not stay on continuously, but will remain on for a day or so then not come on at all for a day or more. The Chev service department keeps telling me it must be the gas cap since nothing else is showing up when they run the diagnostics. Another issue has been the power steering, which becomes difficult when making the initial turn after backing up. Again, Chev maintenance has been unable to determine why this is happening and attempts to fix have been unsuccessful.

We started at 3,000 out of warranty with faulty airbag sensors in the seatbelt. 2 in 2 months. $2,000. 3 alternators. $2,400. Needs a torque converter. $1200. And today, the a/c quit working on the right side and rear. This car is bleeding us dry. And to update, we have replaced the torque converter - car still shudders. Have taken it to the dealership and besides the shuddering when shifting, it will almost die at times when you try to pass or quickly accelerate. They charged almost $400 to clean injectors because there was no check engine light. So, I've spent $1600 and it shudders and shakes. Uggghhh.

I have not owned this car a long time, but the time I have had with has been a very enjoyable experience. I also own a 2011 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab 1500 LTZ and swap off between the two. The Traverse model I have is loaded, so that also adds to the enjoyment. This is not a brag but a reason why I might enjoy it more than a base stock model. It came with 20 inch wheels, so it may also ride different than one with smaller tires.

I bought my 2012 Chevy Traverse in 2015 with 35,000 miles on it. It was a great car for the first 25,000 miles I had it. The alternator went out at 60,000 miles, which cost 1600.00 to replace. Luckily, my extended warranty covered that repair. However, at 84,000 miles, the timing chain jumped time and ruined my engine. I no longer had my warranty coverage at that time. It cost 7200.00 to get the engine replaced. I had to get a loan to replacement engine. I now owe $20,000 on a car that is only worth around $8,000 trade in. Chevy is aware of the problem in the 2012 Traverses and I have heard of so many with the same problem, but Chevy will not do anything to right their wrong. I think a class action law suit needs to be filed against Chevy for the timing chain issue.

I am the original owner of this vehicle. Since approx. 40, 000 , it has been in the shop for days at a time, at least 5 times. Convenient that the warranty was for 36, 000 miles. I have been stranded at least 3x, believed to be fuel pump issues. Audio system replaced twice ( I listen to news radio) ,sun roof leaked and a cadre of other issues. Cant wait till it is paid off, so I can trade in. My first car was a Chevy (74) and my last Chevy will be this one. Be forewarned

Done with Chevy/GM

I bought this vehicle certified pre-owned with 12,000 miles on it. The vehicle met expectations and had been reliable for the amount of driving I do. I put on 15-20,000 miles a year of mostly highway miles. The vehicle was well maintained and I kept up with the regular maintenance on it. Last week I was driving and suddenly seemed to lose power. The vehicle would not shift into third gear and when I made it home I also realized there was no reverse gear. I did a lot of research on the internet and quickly realized that this had been an issue on the 2007-2009 models with the wave plate. GM had actually extended the warranty on the models for those years to 120,000 miles. I took mine to the dealership and they agreed that it sounded like the same issue with the older models. I contacted GM and they said they would inquire with the dealer. When I heard back they offered to cover a mere 30% of the $5,000 repair. I didn't expect the repair to be done for free (maybe I should have because that's what they did with the older models with more mileage than mine), but there resolution was a slap in the face. This is obviously a manufacture defect that they don't want to take accountability for. At this point I'm looking to trade this lemon in and switch to a brand that will be a little more reliable.

Great space and ride, poor reliability

I've had this car since new, and now have about 75k miles on it. Here is a list of issues I've had with the vehicle: 1) Computer issue forced the car into limp mode repeatedly - this occurred periodically between 20-30k miles. Took three service repairs before they replaced the computer and the problem went away. It once happened while I was on the highway, forcing me onto the shoulder - car would flash all sorts of warnings and then go into limp mode, and on a few occasions I would smell gas. Shutting down and restarting would reset it. 2) A/C line leak - the first time this happened the car was under warranty - probably around 30k miles. There was a hissing noise from the vent followed by the A/C stopping working. Warranty replacement of the lines (the whole line) fixed the problem. Now at 73k miles the problem has occurred again - same exact issue; 3) Radio stopped working - AM stations come in, but FM does not indicating that it's likely a problem with the tuner. It's hard to beat this car for cargo space, and it's a great hauler of people and things, but the maintenance issues have been horrendous.

Bad motor 2012 Traverse Chevelot 44500 miles

I purchase my 2012 Traverse Chevrolet new, it has 44500 miles and now I need a motor. The car beginned to shimmy & the traction signal came on, so I pulled aside to parked to turn the car off; then I r to restart the car and it wouldn't startup. I was told by AAA and several other that it was the starter, but it that was not the case. I was told by Thomas Chevrolet that it will cost approximately $8000 for the motor. I don't have money like this. I don't know what to do; my extended warranty expired last year. Dolores

Traded 2011 Chevy Equinox for 2LT for 2013 1LT Traverse and we love it!!! The acceleration is great for a SUV and the ride is very smooth. This vehicle was purchased for my wife. I drive a 2011 Chevy Silverado LTZ, but have no problems feeling comfortable in the Traverse. I looked at a Tahoe and when I saw the limited cargo space, I said pass!!! Looks like you would have a hard time getting a gallon of milk back there. The Traverse has been a great investment and I look forward to taking many road trips in it!!!

I kept this car and it's maintenance meticulous (as per the Dealer's service Department). After owning the car from 5/2013 to 9/2019, the transmission was done and the engine mount was broken, totaling well over 6k in repairs to have it safe. MOST DEFINITELY NOT what I had hoped for or expected from a Chevy.

Before buying this car I would be sure that there were no other cars available anywhere in the world to buy. Though we entered our purchase of this vehicle when it was brand new, the manufacturer recalls (4 the first year) and ongoing odor problem in the A/C system pretty much ruined it for us. After EIGHT visits to the dealer about the odor, the NINTH was the charm - exactly one visit beyond the warranty! Once it was out of warranty, they managed to fix the 3-year-plus odor problem for $1300...and then told us to take it our complaints to GM if we didn't like it. GM promptly denied our appeals, and when the engine's transmission became rough between 3rd-4th gears, we traded it for a new Honda Pilot the next week. We had had enough, and this was definitely our LAST GM PURCHASE EVER! UPDATE: STILL haven't touched a GM product since the original review and it feels GREAT! Anyone believing all those "JD Power" commercials about their award-winning vehicles does so at their own peril. Stay away from GM products - or be prepared for heartache, strife and hate for life...

I bought my traverse new in 2013. It will be paid for next month. In the last 6 years it has had A/c issues where it broke a belt anf compressor and locked up the vehicle. Had to be towed. Three of the motor mounts came loose and 2 were completely gone. The transmission has be replaced twice now. Last time I had it towed to dealership for locking up, I spent $2500 for them to say nothing was wrong with it. Now it has been sittimg in my driveway for 6 months. Its driveable, but only to the store less than a mile up the road. Do NOT buy a Traverse.

First, all the negatives: Bought from a used car dealer, with 115k miles on it, and 3 months later spent $4500 replacing the transmission. Gas mileage has never been above 20 mpg on mostly hwy driving even though EPA estimates 24 mpg. Around town its closer to 14-16 mpg. We have 3 kids (2 in carseats) and the captains chairs are a pain! The bench option would have been better. Storage room is non-existent with the 3rd row up. The engine always feels like its trying too hard when you have to put your foot in it. The only thing we really like about it is how quiet it is on the road. But we will never buy another Chevy. Should have spent more and bought a Ford Explorer.

Falling Apart

My 2012 Traverse was my first time owning a Chevy. I have been very dissapointed with manner it has been falling apart. First it was the plastic molding around the front seats. I paid to have them replaced and 2 months later, it was falling off again. One of the air vents came out and the buttons on the radio (used to change the stations) turned from black to green. The AC keeps going out and I have to keep having to get it fixed. Luckily, I still have an extended warranty. Needless to say, I will never buy a Chevy again.

This is a dangerous car, here's why. The transmission won't down shift after a stop. Here is a typical scenario, you pull up to a stop sign on a 55 mph road. You see a vehicle coming, it's 1/4 to 3/8 mile away, in most cars it's safe to pull out and accelerate smartly (don't doddle). Not in a Chevy Traverse car should you do this because the transmission never down shifted while you sat at the stop sign. Here's what will happen, the higher gear will put you out in front of traffic but you won't have torque (power) to go fast/er. You sit and wait to get splatted. What you can do with your children in the back seat or the other couple you're going out to dinner with is FLOOR IT and over-ride the computer. Now you're peeling rubber and driving like a maniac 16 YO who snuck some of Dad's beer while he tries to impress the girls on the corner. This lack of transmission down shifting scenario is a known problem that GM refuses to fix. Better to buy another brand vehicle and live. Another problem, the AC can only be run when the computer says it can. I had all my windows fog up on Rt. 95 at 65 mph with another couple in the car! I could not see to drive! The other guy quickly undid his seat belt and hand wiped the windshield in front of me so I could see out (like we used to do with 1950's & 1960's vehicles). After the excitement everyone commented on what an unsafe POS the Traverse is. Most Traverse problems including the 2 mentioned can be easily fixed "IF" GM would change the computer programming. Then again, they sell more cars if the ones already sold get destroyed in car crashes don't they? There will never be another GM car in our driveway. I don't know how many or what other GM models have similar problems. I'm going back to buying foreign cars because they are safe at every speed. Update: I have since successfully sued GM under the lemon law. I took the money and purchased a GM extended warranty. I did this because the trade in value was so horrendously low that I refused to allow GM to screw me twice. GM will now have the pleasure of paying for repairs my POS Traverse incurs :-).

Bought this certified preowned at 37k in spring of 2016. Have experienced a litany of problems throughout ownership including airbag failure, multiple electrical system failures, transmission replacement, burns about a quart of oil every 500 miles, washer fluid reservoir broken, coolant leaks, on and on. Gets about 14 mpg city 16 mpg highway. My young children and I joke every time we see a Traverse on the side of the road, which is often enough that the joke resonates and is always fresh in their mind. Decided to cut bait and buy a Minivan from another manufacturer. Never again!!!!!!

Over all I love my traverse! It hauled my family of 5 and extra 2 kids to soccer games in an icy road. Its got 150, 000 plus mileage on it and it still doing great. The only thing that we need to fix on it is the airconditioning unit that quit one summer. But it was just the freon ! Easy fix! The only reason I will trade it in is, It doesn't have a Mylink and the captain seat... Oh since I am a 5'3 mom I have issues backing up. Back window is not good seeing anything below. Traction control is awesome AWD feature is amazing during the winter snowy season. And I love that its cargo space is a bit longer than other SUV's I test drove before. This with the third row up! I still love my Traverse.

I’ve had 4 Chevy vehicles. All good experiences, until I bought the 2012 traverse for my wife and kids. It’s been problematic since day one. Problems include vibration noises from the exhaust (it took 3 tries to fix that), front speaker works sometimes (not fixed yet), air bag light comes on often (6 attempts, still not fixed), it’s had motor mounts replaced… etc. Tried to get some help from GM to get trade-in assistance to by another new chevy traverse, they offered ZERO dollars. Asked for to extend the warenty as it will expire at 36000 miles and I have 30,000… they said no to that too. Asked for a loaner while it in the shop… no to that too, only if it stays over night.

Began vehicle search for an eight seat SUV with the Tahoe, but after seeing the lack of cargo room behind the third row seats, and the clunky removal of 3rd row seats (instead of folding down into the car floorboard) we ruled it out. The Traverse offered a surprising amount of room and a more affordable price. We were impressed with the Buick Enclave, but couldn't find one equipped like we wanted in our region and the price was more than the Traverse for a comparable cloth model. Drove the Honda Pilot and was very disappointed with road and wind noise - felt plastic/boxy. Liked the Nissan Armada, but too pricey. Elected to go for the Traverse 1LT with the All Star Package and AWD.

When we were looking for a 7 seater to trade in our Chevy Avalanche, I made the biggest mistake in leaving the decision to my hubby and son. They checked out the Chevy Traverse 2013. We had a Saturn Outlook and that was a sweet SUV. We couldn't complain. The color, the interior, the performance of that SUV was impeccable. Thinking that this Traverse had the same look, it totally blinded them. They got mesmerized and memories of that Saturn took over. And they were bought out by those memories and the good sales pitch lies of the Dealership where we bought this crap of a car where we paid an arm and a leg on top of that! Everything was make-up. Underneath it all is junk. So do not be fooled. I don't think I'd be buying a Chevy again. We did enjoy the Avalanche. But after this experience, they ruined it for us. It's not a gasoline saver, it definitely eats up gas. It's been 5years and we still owe over $20k on this! Yup! That's how overpriced it was! We bought it for over $45k I think! Insanity! No tvs. None of that! In 3years, their gear acted up... Search engine lights come on for no reason, you hear rattling sounds.. what the heck. In the 5 years we've had this, I think we've had to change the windshield like 2x. I think it's so thin and flimsy that when a pebble hits it, it cracks. Likewise, i know that there is something wrong with the transmission gear. It feels like it is taking longer than usual for it to change to the next gear. This is causing to use up more gasoline. It just sucks. I wrote a review on them the very first day I found out about the amount they charged us on the vehicle! I wanted to return it the day after we bought it.. ...and the dealer never got back with me. Chevy sucks! Totally sucks! Today, the car started emitting this awful smell... What the heck! Why do they make crappy cars? If I were you guys, stay away! Now I understand why they say Japanese or German cars are better.

I've owned this vehicle for 3 years and just went out of warranty (36,755 miles). Best thing is I never used the warranty for anything. I am a very picky person, drives my wife crazy, if something doesn't work like it's supposed to I get it fixed. I have not taken this vehicle to the dealership for anything except a recall on the seatbelt harness. We were looking for a 2nd car and found a BMW X5 with a straight 6 for a decent price so we gave it a test drive. The Traverse has spoiled us. The BMW was gutless compared to it. We expected it to be a little sportier it is a BMW after all, but were very disappointed. It just made us love our Traverse even more.

I have been the single owner of this vehicle. It has had problems from the get go. With in the first 6 months of owning it the radio had to be changed out 3 times. After they changed it there is an annoying rattle in the dash. Chevy says it's normal noise. REALLY!!! There was also a recall on the air bag system as well as the seat belts. It took them 3 tries to get the airbag system to work properly. Makes you feel real safe. At around 40,000 miles the compressor for the A/C died at the cost of $1000. Of course it occurred after the 36,000 mile warranty was up. Now at only 5yrs old the alternator has died taking along with it the battery. The to the tune of just under $1000 as well. Also the blower for the rear A/C has stopped working. This vehicle is a money Pit!

I have a 2012 LTZ AWD Traverse with 28,000 miles and so far I have not been back to the dealer with a single problem. So, I am very happy with the reliability and performance. The only complaint I have is that the gas mileage is somewhat lower than I expected. It's rated at 16 - 23 and I average somewhere between 16.5 - 17.5 depending on the season and how much I use the AC. This is mostly mixed city/highway driving where my average speed is 31 MPH. I drive easily so I was hoping for 19-20 based on the rating. As long as the reliability holds up I will consider buying another GM in the future.

The Traverse LTZ is a very nice and comfortable vehicle. We bought it to transport an elderly parent who has mobility issues and it has been great for this purpose. The downside is the transmission. It has been unreliable since we purchased it(used). Eventually we will have to replace the transmission($3500 - $4000). Which we will do because we like everything else about the vehicle. We paid a moderately low price for the vehicle, so I don't feel like we was short changed. Just be aware when you are making your decision that this expense is probably part of the total package.

This car is fantastic other than the speakers not working all the time. The ride and control is great, a very quiet ride. Seats 7-8 adults no problem. Cargo space is fantastic. Gas mileage is great! We get about 16-18 in the city and 22-25 on the highway. It is not AWD but it is good in the snow. Build Quality is great. Reliability is amazing at 53,000 miles. Other than the speakers. It has had no repairs other than brakes, oil, and fluids.

Purchased This vehicle 2 weeks ago. Purchased the base model for about 25,500 not including taxes. Overall our family enjoys it, quite comfortable ride. We had 2 snow storms and it performed very well. Inside is very roomy. I would give this vehicle all 5's if it lasts. The only low point is the gas mileage at this point averaging 17mpg with mostly city driving. Only one complaint is that the vehicle did not come with a spare tire. Dealer wanted 850 dollars extra for it. Save yourself money and call some salvage yards. I picked up all the parts for under 250.

Bought our 2013 Traverse LT new, left over 13. Love everything about it but since we travel there is no way to hang clothes between the front and second seats. Clothes hooks are behind 2nd row seat and you have to choose luggage or clothes behind 2nd row. We usually put the seats down and put luggage behind the front seats since just 2 of us are traveling. Only have 11k on the car but getting ready to trade for something that works better. Probably go back to a Highlander since I have owned 2 and had great luck with both. No there are no grab handles in ours.
