Good truck but some transmission issues

I purchased a 2019 Silverado in July 2019 and it has developed a strange lurching motion while coming to a stop kind of feels like hitting a small pothole after doing some research GM has been aware of this and other issues with the 8 speed transmission for about 4 years now. I’m taking it back to the dealer to see if they can fix it I still like the truck but this issue is really disappointing and is starting to ruin my new truck buying experience so do your research before buying any GM vehicle with this transmission I have a LT double cab with the 5.3 V8 Updated on 1/29/2020, 6700 miles, the problems with the transmission have mostly gone away. I would say 95% of the time I drive the truck it shifts fine, and any rough shifts are more smoother now. I like everything else about the truck..the new design, the performance, the comfort and new tech features are great. It seems like anything you buy nowadays has some technical issues or doesn’t last as long as the old versions use to. Bottom line I would recommend the Silverado but if you’re looking to buy a new one, you might want to wait for the 2021 models as they’ll have the new GM 10 speed transmissions which are supposed new be better/newer than the 8 speed. I hope this info helps REVIEW UPDATE: It’s been just over a year now since I bought my truck I have about 10,000 miles on it now so I thought I would update my original review. The last time I took my truck back to my local dealer was in January 2020 and they reprogrammed the transmission module and I have not really had an issue with the transmission since then so that helped a lot. My last truck was a 2001 Silverado so it took a little getting used to all the new computer controlled components but I am really enjoying my new truck now and I now feel the same way about my new truck that I used to feel about my old truck it’s a part of the family now. I’m sure you truck guys know what I mean. So I would recommend Chevy trucks to anyone thinking of buying a new truck just take your time, do a lot of test drives, do your due diligence and make an educated decision. Good luck

Honeymoon is WAY over!

Turned 50 and decided to treat myself to a new truck. I shopped around and found a 2019 Silverado LT with the Z71 package, 5.3L V8 and the 8 Speed transmission. Upgraded to 20" High County Rims, Borla Exhaust and some interior goodies. -Day 2 of ownership. Infotainment screen went crazy after shifting out of reverse. (Maybe a sign) -1800 miles down the road. The tranny started to shift hard in 3-5 gears and when leaving reverse to drive forward the tranny would slip then slam into gear. -1st trip to Service. "Reprogrammed " Transmission -2nd trip to Service. A new transmission Valve body installed. The put it on the ground and it wouldn't for forward or backward. They put a different P/N Valve Body on. All parts were sent from GM not picked off a shelf -3rd trip to Service. The replaced all of the internal transmission clutch discs that were "Scorched and out of Spec" **Claim started with GM for buy back** -4th trip. Was told that the tranny would be replaced. Arrived to pick up and noticed they only, "Reprogrammed" again. -5th trip. The service department said that GM will no longer work on this transmission and GM said my truck doesn't "Qualify for the buy back program" Hired a Lemon Law Attorney. Totally sad that on the newest GM and the 6th I've owned, I get treated like this. I've completely lost my confidence in this truck that now only has 6k miles on it and GM. Most struggles with taking a vehicle in for service, they "can't duplicate customers complaints". Everytime I brought it in... THEY CONFIRMED IT!

First Truck after 50 Years on this Planet

So, I have long owned sedans or sports cars and decided in my "elder" years to get a grown up vehicle and get a truck. Did a lot of research, and the list came down to 2. Chevy LT Crew Cab with Z71 package or Ford F-150 Lariat with 302A package, so it would be apples to apples, as far as options were concerned. Oh, and I drove the LT Trail Boss edition. It felt like I was driving a HMMWV. While I liked driving those in the military, off road, the TB was not my idea of a daily commuter. I liked both trucks equally, but the Ford came in about $10k more in price. So, I went with the Chevy. Two weeks in, and almost zero complaints. The trucks rides well, accelerates well with the V8, gets decent gas mileage, only requires regular gas, and has every nice to have option I wanted except for rear sensors. That is probably going to cost me some day, as I am used to parking vehicles which are a LOT smaller. :) Only minor complaint I have is I absolutely HATE the auto-stop feature on the truck and the fact it cannot be permanently disabled. True, you can hit a button and disable it every time you start it, but that is easy to forget, and when you want instant power from a stop and you don't have it, that sucks. I love the interior, even though it is not the "grandest" out there, but it's a truck....I could care less about leather and refinement. As far as some reviewers complaining about the large center console, maybe they should explain why it is so large...because it is an emergency sixth seat, should you need one!!! That's right, fold it up, and it is a seat complete with seat belt and leg room, but I am sure the professional reviewers didn't bother to think, "hey that center console is huge, I wonder why?...maybe we should ask?...naw, we'll just complain about it." Overall, VERY happy with my truck. :)

New Silverado for the WIN!

I just recently purchased a 2019 Silverado Crew Cab LT Trail Boss. Previously I owned a 2015 Silverado Crew Cab LT. I loved my 2015, it was a great truck. Reliable, comfortable, tons of power and decent fuel economy for a full size truck. It was one of those trucks that you can get attached too, which I did hahaha. Once I saw the new Silverado I was a little apprehensive to the design. I though maybe they went a little to bold and progressive. I saw a ton of people bashing it on social media. Once you see the truck in person your prospective might change like mine did. I absolutely love the look of the new Silverado. To me it encompasses the entire Silverado history of trucks into one new design. You can see the previous look of the old Silverado's if you are a true Chevrolet Person, but you have to be okay with a new progressive design. This new truck is night and day difference than the previous generation. Trust me I know I owned one for 4 years. You can tell Chevrolet put a ton of engineering in this new truck. Everything is purpose built, but NOT overdone in anyway. I seriously don't understand why you would want some huge screen to control everything in your truck like the ram. To me it is just more electronics to break and more distractions to a already very distracted driver that is on the road now. I also don't understand why people are bashing the new Silverado interior. "IT IS NOT THE SAME INTERIOR WITH MINOR UPDATES" The interior is completely new people! Heck the entire cab is reconfigured and different than the previous generation truck. You will find that yes the layout of the interior is very similar as far as the look, but with a completely different driving position. The seat materials are definitely higher quality with cloth or leather. Massive amount of space in the second row with the crew cab and now a acceptable amount of space with he double cab model. You will find a ton of head room. I mean a ton. I love the new infotainment center. The controls are straight forward and works very well. Absolutely no problems. You have to see it for yourself. This truck drives great, I mean really great. I can't believe how comfortable it is. Extremely quiet going down the road. I am planning a very long road trip this September and I know this truck is going to be amazing and I will not feel a fatigued from driving all day long. Off road capabilities are defiantly great for a full size truck. You can tell the suspension has been resigned. It eats up the harsh bumps. My old truck would definitely be throwing around a lot more than my new truck. Fuel Economy is exactly what the Sticker says too. Overall this new truck checks all of my box's and I am very happy with my purchase. I would recommend the new Silverado to anyone!

2019 model Silverado is a MAJOR improvement!

I drove a 2017 Silverado LT with the 5.3 AFM engine with the 6 speed tranny before buying the 2019. The 2017 Silverado was awesome and I loved it! But this new 2019 with the new and upgraded 5.3 DFM engine, paired with the 8 speed tranny is in a whole new class! This truck is also roomier, has more cargo space, the engine and tranny marriage is smoother and makes driving our up-and-down hills of north GA almost disappear with near-effortless driving with near-imperceptible shifting. The truck is even quieter than my Cadillac, which is amazing. This truck clobbers both the RAM 1500 and the Ford F-150 overall in my opinion. The Ford and Ram may beat the Chevy on a few INsignificant line items that most people don't care about in the half-ton category. Many reviews point out the others may have a larger fuel tank (who cares?), a few tenths of a second faster (who cares?), can tow a couple hundred pounds more (who cares? If you tow stuff bigger than the 1500 Silverado can handle, then you should be driving a 3/4 or 1 ton anyway (common sense, duhh). But OVERALL the Chevy is a whole step above (crash, bang, thump-bump busted transmissions) Ford, and Ram (many buyers still look at like it's a Dodge so don't be surprised by the resale value once you drive it off the lot). The new Chevy simply takes the cake again! Ok, there are some gnat-bites that I wish were better on the 2019 Silverado: No ash tray!? I don't smoke, but I always use the ashtray for storing small things that I want quick access to (Chapstick, a trailer key, etc). Not a big deal, but initially a disappointment. The auto-start-stop is great at times, but also of goofy at times in stop and go traffic, but the Chevy has a button that I can press to temporarily disable the auto-stop whenever I don't want it to engage. Also, it irks me that Chevy doesn't have auto-up-down for all four windows. It has auto DOWN for all four, but auto UP only for the driver. My wife's recent Toyota and current Honda all have auto-up AND down for all windows; I wish Chevy would step up and do the same. Finally, for some reason Chevy decided to make the turn signal "stalk" just a "toggle" for the high/low beam operation. In the 2017 Silverado, the high-beam would be set by pushing the stalk forward, and it would stay forward until I would pull it back again to revert to low beam. That configuration is great because I can keep my eyes on the road rather than having to look down to see if the high beams are on or off (especially on stretches of road where I often switch back and forth between high and low beams). It's easy to forget whether you're on high or low beam in many situations, but you can touch the stalk and know instantly whether you're on hi or lo beam. But the 2019 stalk is only a "toggle" for hi and lo, meaning you PUSH the stalk forward for hi beam and the stalk just pops back into its original position. So if a car appears over a hill, and you can't remember if your beams are on hi or lo, you can tell only by taking your eyes off the road and looking at the dash board for a blue light. In the 2019, too many times I pull the stalk again, only to realize I was already on lo beam, and inadvertently turn the hi beams on which is followed by getting flashed by a now angry or confused oncoming driver who is wondering why I flashed my hi beams at him. This is probably the biggest blunder Chevy made on the 2019. I think it's a safety issue and Chevy could do a recall to replace the stalk mechanism, but don't hold your breath. Otherwise, I love the 2019 Silverado would buy it again in a heartbeat!

I loved the look of the all black Boss! That is what guided me towards purchasing one. I had a 2004 Z71 Silverado, so the move to the 2019 Boss LT was a HUGE improvement. I love the look of this truck, however, it has turned out to have some pretty major brake system issues! I had my 2019 LT Trail Boss serviced for the two latest recalls on Tuesday 12/17. 1. Braking System 2. Loose alternator cable On 12/20 I had multiple braking system error codes light up my console. I attempted to drive down the street towards my house to see if I could ease home. The brakes were stiff but got me home. Very nervous and felt extremely unsafe. GM is putting lives at risk! when I got home, I turned my truck off for a few minutes and back on. I did this twice. The second time the brake service lights went off and the brakes felt normal again. But the check engine light is still on. Thankfully I am home, as it is too late to take to the shop. I took the truck back to the dealer to have these errors checked out. They had my truck for 7 days and eventually said all they had to do was tighten the battery cables. Well, that night after picking it up, the brake system failed again. I had no brakes! I took the truck back to the dealer again. It is still there... They told me that they were told not to release the truck back to me until they have an engineer on site to look at the truck. They have no idea what is causing this. I am going on 2 weeks now without my truck : ( I am extremely upset with GM... And will not drive with my family in my truck until a resolution has been found! A few other annoyances: 1. When it was really cold out (I live in Nebraska) the dash panel flashed warning messages that were not accurate. i.e. Trailer Disconnected. I have never connected a trailer. 2. The ambient temperature is never accurate - off by 5-7 degrees higher. I have had this looked at as well. They replaced the sensor but it did not help. 3. The infotainment system (Radio) sometimes doesn't start when i get in my truck and start it up. I have to change stations first, then it plays music... It's like it's on mute or something. 4. Sometimes when I am leaving my driveway and start heading down the road, the transmission shifts roughly into another gear or maybe it's the new technology in the engine where it only uses a certain number of cylinders and it is adjusting? Either way, it feels bad. At this point, I wish GM/Chevy would just give me a new truck. I do not trust this one any more. It's unsafe for a family... Signed, Disappointed Chevy Lover

Bought this truck in April 2019 to use in my construction business, spoiled myself with my last brand new truck before I retire in about 5 years. LT All Star Edition with 5.3 8 spd Trans. Sticker almost 50K with Convenience package #1. Truck drove beautifully when new, great acceleration and fuel economy. At about 4 k miles started noticing a noise inside the cab that increased with mph. Noise was faint at first but grew in intensity with time. Sounds like a siren in the background at speeds above 30 mph. I took it in for 1 st oil change and several recalls in January 2020, I also mentioned this noise. Service writer asked me if it sounded like a rotational whirling noise? I replied that is an excellent way to describe it! After over a week to get the oil change and recall work complete, dealer calls and says truck is ready! I asked what was causing the whirling noise and was told they could not replicate it so I should drive it until it gets worse so maybe they could hear it. Dealer claimed that they have never had a new 2019 body style truck with this problem even though they suggested the description of the sound ! I went to the dealer and got a service manager to take a ride with me, he stopped the test drive before we got out of the parking lot to exit down the street. He heard it immediately! They have had this truck since 1/11/20 and have replaced the center portion of the rear end and at least 1 axle bearing, not fixed. Now they have ordered rear brake rotors thinking that is the cause, time will tell. The service dept never calls with progress updates, so I drive down there every few weeks to meet with them to get updates on the repair progress. Today is 4/6/20, 86 days in the shop with no idea when or if it can be fixed. I was finally given a loaner truck on 2/5/2020. 4/3/2020 dealer wants the truck back even though my truck is still not fixed! A few other severely irritating issues. I own a 15 and 17 Express Vans that costs substantially less that came with 120 v dash mounted electrical outlet and Satellite Radio in an LS type trim level. My 09 Silverado 2500 LT came with factory integrated Brake controller and Satellite Radio as standard. This almost 50K truck came with neither, talked to salesman about adding both during test drive and was told easy things to add. Turns out it is impossible to add because the wiring harness and computers are specific to each trim level and to get these options the truck had to be built with convenience package #2. Update 10/2020. Dealer replaced brake rotors and pads on rear axle. Did not fix the noise. Engineers told the Dealer to swap left and right axles to see if noise relocated with the axles swapped. The noise did move with the axle. Dealer ordered a new axle and assorted other parts and installed them. The truck drives quietly once again. Process took over 3 months to correct the issue. Gm and the dealer worked on the truck intermittently during that time frame. Truck sat in the back lot for over a week, more than once while GM took their sweat time deciding what parts to through at it next. No concern for my loss of use time or the inconvenience of not having the truck necessary to operate my business. If dealers had a dynamometer or found a local shop who had one to use, this noise could have been diagnosed and repaired within a week or two. Service departments do not even contemplate the use of it. When I suggested the use of it, they thought I was crazy. We had a Dyno in high school auto shop in the 70's, very helpful to advanced students building engines and diagnosing a multitude of different issues. Citrus law was invoked in early summer, repurchase was agreed to in September. Gm has 90 days to issues payment and retrieve the truck. As of today, 10/8/20, still waiting without the ability to use the truck. Still no urgency to allow my business to get back to normal. As an essential business, putting in long hours, extremely inconvenient without the normal use of the truck. Worst customer support I have ever had as a very loyal GM business customer since 1980. Update 4/2021. Gm was supposed to finish up paperwork within 90 days after we settled on a repurchase price in 9/2020. Gm did not comply with the 90 day deadline, no penalty in California Lemon Law to force them. On 12/31/20, GM stated deal will be done within 30 to 45 days. On March 4, 2021 , Service manager called to tell me he had my repurchase paperwork and I can bring the truck back to finalize the buyback. I was told that the truck must be washed and clean inside and out, before he could accept it. I told him I would arrive between 5 -6 pm that same day. I arrived at 5:20pm, I was told he was in a meeting and I will have to wait. After waiting 30 minutes, he inspected the truck and accepted the truck. Even on the last day, NO concern for my time ! He said I should buy a 2021 1500, no more issues now. Next day news said 19, 20, 21 all need new 8sp tranny's, No sale !!

After nearly 17 years with my 03 Tahoe which im still using. I didn't bother looking at the other full size trucks being a brand loyalist to Chevy. I finally pulled the trigger on the new 19 Silverado with the 5.3L 8 SP transmission . I've had the truck for a month now and really enjoy it. I read some negative comments about the transmission, ride quality and dated interior but coming from a dinosaur this truck looks and drives great! I do notice the slight jerkiness when coming to a slow stop and its a bit weird but im getting use to it. Time will tell how it holds up.

IF WANT VEHICLE THAT WON'T DRIVE ALL THE TIME...

- I purchased my beautiful 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Double Cab in June 2019 and LOVED it until a week later when I went camping out of state and next day the vehicle started yet wouldn't drive forward or reverse. When it finally did go forward, there was NO power steering. Then, when I turned it off blocks away to try to get the power steering to return; it would not drive again. I called ONSTAR and they were able to reset the computer so I could drive home. Dashboard message read "Trailer Brake Assist, Power Steering Reduced". I had NOTHING hitched to the vehicle. Then, over the next 5 months my truck has stranded me 9 times at all hours of the day/night with starting and not driving and with the same error message...so is VERY UNSAFE! The truck stranded me in a Chevrolet dealership parking lot and I was told they would NOT assist me with discovering the problem since I did NOT purchase it from them. Thanks to ONSTAR for being able to reset the computer for me so I could drive home. I was in Colorado stranded for two days after I got vehicle towed to Chevrolet dealership and was promised they would fix truck & yet when got there they did not have rental car they promised or willing to fix truck so I ended up getting very ill over next 6 weeks & had to seek medical attention 3 times. Thanks for NOTHING! - I took my Silverado to local Chevrolet dealership twice and they cannot get vehicle to duplicate the problems so are unable to fix it. When the truck had the issues, the Chevrolet dealerships were NOT willing to assist me so it has not been fixed yet after 7 months of purchasing it. Problems get worse...now I have had 2 accidents with the vehicle in 2019 costing $10,000 in repairs because of reduced power steering when turning and the vehicle stalling then lurching forward with increased acceleration when stepping on the foot pedal just to turn from almost a stopped position so I end up on a curb (forced my front bumper to fall off that will cost me $1,000 to replace) AND hit a sign in the parking lot (cost $9,000 in repairs). My truck stalled in my own driveway and then after ONSTAR reset the computer, it lurched forward into my garage and hit a board in front of it that pushed through my drywall...so now I have a hole in my garage also. - I called General Motors before and after the accidents and complained that my vehicle is a "LEMON" and that they need to take my vehicle back and get me a vehicle that is safe and that I can drive without any issues as I do like to travel and I plan on using the vehicle to move so it needs to be safe and reliable; especially after all of the money I spent to purchase it. I also complained to GM that their Chevrolet dealerships were unwilling to assist Chevrolet Owners when vehicles were under warranty and there were issues because we did not purchase them from their dealership and we needed assistance so hopefully they can put out a bulletin that this is NOT acceptable. Finally, GM did send an Investigator to take pictures of my vehicle and check the computer for any codes after it was damaged and in the repair shop for 40 days. I was told this delay was because GM was on strike and parts could not be obtained quickly and yet Chevrolet NEVER gave me a rental car. My insurance had to pay for the truck repairs and car rental for 30 days due to the accident and then I had to pay for the car rental for extra 10 days.it took to repair the truck. - I love the comfort of my Silverado truck and how safe I feel driving it, love that it has seat height adjustment (paid extra for this option since work truck does not include seat height adjustment for reduced price of truck), love comfort of back seat (slept in it late one night on trip), love length of truck bed to haul items and all the tie-downs to secure them, love all the storage areas (purchased under seat storage compartment for back seat with owner points that is wonderful to not get carpet dirty), love that windows do NOT fog up inside like most cars, love large backup camera, love steering wheel controls, love ease of stepping in and out of bed of truck, love good stereo reception, and all the ports to use for accessories. I HATE the stereo speakers in my Silverado...they cannot play music loud or they rattle and the sound is muffled so Chevrolet should provide better speakers for the amount of money that this Silverado costs so Owners can enjoy music while outside of the vehicle also. I did get notice that the 2019 Silverado 1500 truck was recalled due to some of my issues; yet MY VIN # WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL! WHAT? So, I am very disappointed in General Motors and Chevrolet right now until they can assist me with owning a reliable and safe vehicle and one that ALL Chevrolet dealerships will repair when there is an immediate need for it; like the one I was supposed to have purchased for a large sum of money in 2019.
