As a long time owner of a 5th generation 2002 Camry, now with 170,000 km (canadian) i'am confused as to what to do next. Camry has been an excellent family car ever since it was born. My dad had the 4th generation car and it was the ultimate reliable car. When the 5th generation came out , my mouth dropped after the first test drive and bought it right away. People ... Read More
My Maxima lease is coming up soon, so I looked at the 2012 Camry this weekend out of curiosity. It was a loaded XLE V6. The initial impression from the exterior is that of a small car, and a pretty boring one at that. It looks more of an update to the 2002 Camry than the previous bulbous generation. Hyundai, Kia and just about every other manufacturer must be laughing at ... Read More
out of Dallas-Fort Worth last weekend. That is one nice, quiet ride the Fusion gives. I barely heard the engine whine, I didn't even look to see if I had a 4 or 6 cyl. The acceleration was decent, car "manners" on the freeways leading away from Dallas-Ft.Worth and then west on I-20 were very good. Handling was good, nothing more, but competent and fuel economy was good. I left in ... Read More
I just got back from a Toyota dealer in Middle Island, NY, and they charged me $479 for the front rotors and pads, and $316 for the rear pads. Gee... I have to find me a good independent shop.
I would not expect the use of ANY multigrade oil in these viscosity ranges to void your warranty. There just isn't enough viscosity difference to cause problems. If the dealership told you that Mobil 1 0W-40 would void your warranty; I would ask the regional Toyota Customer Service Center to confirm that IN WRITING. Dealership employees are known to mouth off about things they really don't know, in order to promote ... Read More
Well first off I wouldn't necessarily take Midas' word for it. They are franchisees and some of them are not as trustworthy as we might like them to be. Rotors can be measured for wear and run-out and pads can be measured in MMeters for wear and projected mileage. If nobody showed you these things then you don't have to take their word for anything.
Hi People, I just bought this car(2002 CAmry, v6). It has 49,600 miles on it. The car has some breaking issues. when i bought the car I took it to MIDAS for inspection.According to them the rear brake rotors have some problem and needs to be replaced (may be rear brake pads too). The cost will be around $300. I have been looking at some stuff online to check it, and ... Read More

Yep, everything you've said and done is what some of us have know for quite awhile. Disappointing that Toyota continues to bury the issue and does nothing for future models. My sensor light has been going off and on for about 3 yrs. When I first took it to Toyota, they said they "thought" it was my catalytic converter ($600) and the sensor would probably break and need to be replaced ($200). As a former Camry and present Accord owner (only used as an infrequently driven 2nd car) I totally agree with Plekto. The Japanese designers played it safe and designed white bread sedans since 2002. I was tired of numerous trips to the Ford dealership for odd little problems, whether covered under warranty or not. From a dollars perspective, the Fords were cheaper up front. Again the constant trips to the dealer just were a nusisance and at the time I could afford the extra $$$$ ... Read More
Buy the V6. The engine and transmssion are flawless. I assume you know the V6 is the Lexus engine. I get Consumer Reports magazine, too - but any problems have been fixed; Note also that consumer reports test of the 2007 only got 1 less mpg than the 4 cylinder - and that was using regular gas in both. You are getting over 100 more horsepower with the V6. On the ... Read More
lucky_777 I got our deal in St. Joseph, MO. Are you saying that they offered you a total of $1300 under invoice or the special APR? The special apr is a sweet deal if you can get it. For example, the deal I got if I got regular finance for 60 months, I would be paying an addditional $4000 vs my 2.9% for 48 months. They gave me dealer hold back ... Read More
210delray, I appreciate your prompt response to my questions. To add to my earlier questions, I bought this 2002 Camry, XLE 3.0L V6 with 97K miles on it. I did checks with Autocheck. They did not say anything about the engine status such as the condition of the Timing belt. However, the car checks out with 85% mark with all the usual stated conditions. I am a bit confused. Do I ... Read More
Definitely a timing belt that must be replaced periodically (90K miles). As for security, the car has an engine immobilizer which means that a key with a built-in transmitter must be used to start the car.
Please can anyone out there help me in answering this? I have a 2002 Toyota Camry, XLE 3.0L V6 engine. Does it have a timing belt or timing chain? Secondly, how does its anti-theft security works if it has at all, as a standard for the XLE?
Well, I had Chryslers in the past and they were known for head gasket jobs. They cost less than $500 as I recall. Toyota's cost a heck of a lot more than that and then you have the sludge possibility...nothing like playing Russian Roulette after committing to an already expensive gasket job only to find out you need a new engine. Its BS. FYI, I have a 2002 Camry w/64K miles. ... Read More
After testing a new 2008 Honda Accord V-6 with its "run on 3 cylinders at cruising speeds" technology and wind and road noise so bad that I had to turn the radio up to drown it out, I purchased a 2009 Camry 3.5 Liter 268 HP V-6 with its smooth as silk Lexus drive train. I drive 80% highway (55 to 75 mph) and 20% city and I was hoping it ... Read More
We are looking to buy a 4 cylinder Toyota Camry but can't make up our mind whether to go with the 08 or 09 LE . We test drove the 09 but not the 08. Also should we consider the CE - there doesn't seem to be any big difference for what we want. Would love to hear any advice or suggestions. By the way, I have no trade and do ... Read More
Hi, how are you doing? I don't know if you will get this, or not, but I have been experiencing the "surging" problem with my 2002 Camry SE V-6. I only happens at 40 mph, and only with the cruise control on. Did the cruise have anything to do with the problems you saw? I had it to an independent mechanic I trust and he mentioned the "update" to the ECM ... Read More
Is it an optical illusion or does the 2007 + Camry looks smaller than the 2002-2006 Camry? I don't think Toyota will increase the size of the next gen. Camry. My 2003 is about as big a car as I and probably most people need and want a mid size car to be. And given high gas prices I would imagine improving fuel efficiency would be a greater priority than increasing ... Read More
No, it should be completely replaced by the 2012 model, but updated for 2010. They almost always make an update by the 4th model year. How "major" it is varies, but is generally a lot more than just new paint colors. The 2010 will be the fourth year of this body style. Look at the 2005 Camry vs the 2002-2004 models. The absolute minimum you can expect is standard VSA on ... Read More
With some guidance along the way from Mackabee on these boards, I put my name on an allocated '09 Camry LE V6 during the third week in January and picked it up on February 23rd. I've now experienced this vehicle in all the normal driving venues I frequent. To work on 40 mph in town streets, urban interstates and a trip to our lake place which is 45 miles from home ... Honda and Toyota are two of the best proven vehicles on the road, no question. Having owned both Honda and Toyota that have had numerous repairs, my 91 Honda Accord 2 starter coils fail and a part in the auto tranny that makes the tranny shift, I forgot what it was called, failed all before 100K. MY 1991 Toyota Celica started blowing blue smoke at 120K, and I replaced the drive ... Read More
I'm ready to wrap up my search. Quite some time ago, I sold my '05 Accord EXL V6 and had been waiting for the '08 Accords to arrive. My basic requirements were pretty simple - Be able to handle our worn out, rough roads here in the frozen north, get reasonable mileage, safe and because my plan is to give this vehicle to one of my kids in two, or three ... Going by 2007's numbers, here are the EPA's estimates for the following for 4 bangers. Honda Accord : 24-34 Nissan Altima: 26-34 Toyota Camry: 24-33 Ford Fusion: 23-31 Mazda6 : 24-31 I believe that the oldest engine design in this segment is the Fords, because they are using Mazdas 2.3L design that debuted in 2002 for the 2003 Mazda6. All of the other 4 cyl's are newer, aside from Hondas 2.4. ... Read More
Ok, its funny though that the light came on. It only did so after the guy at the auto parts store hooked up his computer to see if there were any codes for the first thing. Is it possible that he hit a button and turned it off through the computer? Also, does it have to do with the breaks? Do they need to be checked? would worn break pads cause ... Read More
The two problem are unrelated I would think. You need to see a mechanic you can trust (doesn't have to be the dealer). The VSC/Trac off means your electronic stability control and traction control systems are not functioning. You can still drive the car safely for the time being.
