Hi all, I'm new to this forum and am looking at an opportunity to buy a used 1999 Honda Civic EX couple (5 spd), just want to see how much in general these Civics are going for right now? The car has a little over 150k miles on it, seems to be well maintained and runs well. There have been some repairs done on the car (belts, battery, distributor replacement, and ... Read More
There is an AD by Hardin Honda in Anaheim, CA, for 2011 Civic DX VP, 30 month lease, 12k/year. $1999 total due at signing, $30/month! It's a legitimate AD, my friend got the Car today. I got an Accord instead because of family needs. Please be aware that this kind of deal can never be negociated. The selling price on this car is almost 5k off the 17.3K MSRP.
I have a 1999 Honda Civic w/5 speed. The transmission seems to make a noise when in gear and at certain mph speeds. I checked the fluid level and added a little to top it off but it still makes the noise. Should I worry about the noise and is this something to worry about? Thanks! Jim

I found the noise. No mechanical problems. A very small rock lodged itself between the muffler heat shield and pipe just under the car on the horizontal run under the engine. Our 1999 CNG-only Honda has lots of spunk around town. I believe, however, that it has the smaller engine available for the Civic, so is not great at altitude (5000', e.g.) or on steep hills, where is must shift down to "3rd" gear (it is an automatic) to maintain 60 MPH, especially with two folks aboard. It will maintain that (or higher speeds) in 3rd, but I feel like I'm running ... Read More

I have a 1999 Honda Civic, and I took it to the Honda dealer for an oil change in December (had a $26.95 oil change coupon) where the service advisor told me there was some "seepage" going on in the engine (nothing more specific than that) and that it was nothing to worry about right now, but something to think about "down the road" However, after that, the car has developed ... From reading this forum, seems as if some buyers are (still) getting "invoice pricing" on new Civics while others are getting MSRP quotes. Is this a regional phenomenon? Or is it because some dealers have more coming in from the factory than others? Just curious. Also wonder what will occur once the special financing goes away after the 7th of July. Interestingly, I recall that starting in the 1999 model year ... Read More
Rob, You may have missed the boat. CNG vehicles are the hottest vehicles on the market today. A honda Civic that I bought last year for $4700 is now selling for over $13000 with more miles. Got the injectors cleaned up, re-installed them and the car fired right up. It seems to be operating properly now. FWIW, I am told that injector problems are quite common on the GX Civics. They get gummed up (perhaps as a result of the heat associated with operating at high pressure?) and as the flow fails, performance suffers. If you observe misfires showing up on the diagnostic computer, you might want ... Read More

You still didn't really answer my question (I'm assuming it's a Generation 6 model 1999-2001 or so if your Accord was bought new 7 years ago) If so, that's 150 horsepower (about 145 if you go by the new SAE testing procedures for hp). Recently my 1999 Civic GX check engine light came on. I took it in for service. The GX trained tech at Garff Honda in SLC said that the code said the EGR had gone south. $163 for the part. In theory, one should replace the tank every 15 years according to the owner's manual. The Honda price is about $5,000 for the part, alone. Having a 1999 Civic, I wonder whether there will be a supply of tanks from newer wrecked CNG Civics, and furthermore, will they fit. Has anybody had occasion to search for wrecked CNG Civics to get CNG-specific parts? Ate the tanks, so far, fully interchangeable?

If you are gonna do the engine swap most other engines that Honda put out in the Civic/Integra line will work because they use the same motor mount locations. Most go with a B16A that puts out 160 hp, (found in the Civic Si (1999-2000) or some Integras. If you want more then go for the B18C1 that was found in the later model Integra GS-R. I have even heard of ... Read More
I did a while back, when I bougth my first new car, 1999 Honda Civic, I bought extended warranty through a guy on ebay. He was a finance guy at a dealership in VT. The price was good. 2 years later, I traded the car in, called the guy up. We set up the paperwork and I got most of my money back. However, you only get the money back if ... Read More

It's not an opinion, it's based on years of watching reviews and keeping up with car information. Name me ONE SINGLE PUBLISHED DOCUMENT that shows the Jetta TDI is more reliable than the Civic, and I will bow to your superior knowledge. ... Read More
6250 $Canadian = about 5150 $US 145,000 miles = under 90,000 miles as blueiedgod pointed out. Sounds suspiciously low in price. It might be worthwhile doing a compression test before purchase. Is this the same engine as in the 1999 Civic SI's sold in the US (160 hp)? I thought the Si-R models were exclusively sold in Europe and Japan (was it imported to Canada?). If it was imported, I ... I'm really pleased with the Civic overall, but I'm curious as to why Honda doesn't offer the 2 door coupe in a performance model? I don't care for the looks of the Si model, and there's really no reason Honda couldn't make a high performance version of the 2 door coupe. Could you imagine how much fun this car would be to drive with the RSX's 200 hp 2 liter engine? ... Read More

It is going to be a coupe again. :-( It should not be called Si. Si's always been a hatch except for the 99-2000 coupe. They should just call it an EX-S or something. They expect 200 hp at least just to stay on par with the new GTI and the Ion Redline/SRT-4. There is a lot more power in the hot hatch (hot compact maybe?) marketplace these days. Since the ... I have a 1999 Honda Civic DX that I recently purchased with 65,000 miles on it. The car has been running great, but yesterday while it was idling in the driveway it stalled out. I tried to re-start it numerous times throughout the day, and even though it was turning over strong, it still would not start. I have determined that it is getting fuel to the cylinders, but need help ... Read More
I am currently paying about $2,000 a year (comprehensive, Louisiana, >25 y/o male, perfect driving record) to insure a 2003 Honda Civic SI. This is about $500 per year higher than comparably priced 2003 vehicles. Can some other people list their insurance prices please? I don't believe that the theft rate and collision rate of the 2002-current Civic SI's are similar to the earlier model years (i.e. 1999-2000). Thus, a lower ... Read More
I recently bought a 1999 Honda Civic DX. It is a five speed manual, runs great on highway driving, but at lower speeds (1st or 2nd gear) when I take my foot off of the accelerator or just back off of it a little, the car decelerates quickly down to a really slow idle. What this causes is that when you accelerate again it kind of jumps or lurches forward on ... Read More
My nephew has a 1999 Honda Civic LX that can't pass emissions. He has error codes P1336 and P1337. Can anybody tell us what the codes are and what part needs to be replaced, or what maintenance needs to be performed? Thank you.
Congrats on graduating. I bought my first brand new car when I graduated in 1999, and it was a Honda civic. I don't know where you live, but $17K for DX is absurd. People pay $13K for LX. I paid $14,500 for brand new Si in early 2003. Were you looking at Civic's with HOnda Factory Perfomance Packages?
Does anyone have any good experience with dealer in NJ? Where? I have purchased a Civic in 1999 from D&C Honda in Tenafly, NJ. It was the most pleasurable experience out of all of NYC dealerships. If you don't mind taking a hike to CT, Fair Honda of Danbury took really good care of me and some other people on and off this site. I have heard good things of Mahwah ... Read More
Historically, Honda engines lived past 300,000 miles on just dyno oil. So, if cost is of concern then go with a cheaper option. If you are going to change your oil every 3750 miles, then go with regular quality dyno oil. I do Mobil 1 changes every 5000-6000 miles. Also, if cost is a concern, the DIY cost is only $30-$35, buy oil at walmart $28/case of 6 (you'll only need ... Read More
What is "alacarte"? Sorry, the correct spelling is ala carte, or close to that. That is when you go to a restaurant and get items off a menu, rather than buying a whole dinner package. Honda offers package deals. If you want A/c, you have to get LX, although a dealer can install the optional A/c on the DX, but the price is $800-$1200, which is more than what you would ... Read More
I have a 1999 Honda Civic LX that I purchased about 1 year ago. It's been running well, but today I noticed that my horn isn't working. I want to get it fixed right away because now my alarm isn't working since it's hooked to the ... Read More
1999 Honda Civic EX 49,000 miles Wondering what type of A/C problem I currently have. When turning on the A/C the compressor (I believe) makes a very loud clicking sound which you can hear inside the vehicle when driving and during idle. The air does blow cold however when shutting off the A/C and only using the vent fan the car becomes quiet again. This problem started to occur only 3 ... Read More
You are right, the window in the wheel well is present on all Honda Civics post year 2000. I guess the last major design change in the model happenned in the year 2001 and the window must be a design improvement. My old Toyota Celica doesn't have the window and so doesn't my friend's 1999 Honda Civic. The Honda Accords don't have the window either. Will have to keep an eye ... Read More
