I leased a fairly low-spec XL model to tow my 5000 lb. boat and I chose one off the lot. I’m really glad the dealer ordered it with the 2.7 Ecoboost over the base engine; it’s well worth the $995 premium. Excellent acceleration as well as highway power. It’s amazing that this engine is exactly half the displacement of a V-8 5.4 liter Expedition I previously leased yet it produces 25 more horsepower and more torque. I just completed a trip of almost 3000 miles with the boat in tow. I had no problem cruising at 80 mph with ample power for passing. The reduced weight of this aluminum truck is listed at only 4400 lbs on my registration. The seats in this basic model were remarkably comfortable for both myself and my passenger for a long day of driving. I never had to alter my position to avoid discomfort, cramping, or pain. The only seats I’ve ever experienced that are as comfortable for all day driving are in my S class Mercedes sedan. What people say about the Ecoboost is correct; it’s a powerful, economical engine, just not both at the same time. If you go lightly on the gas with nothing in tow, it gets better than 20mpg but if you use the more than ample power, it uses as much or/more gas than a V-8. Rear seat comfort was adequate for adult passengers for short trips. I love the Sync3 system that permits my phone’s navigation system to appear on screen but I hate Apple for restricting it to their map program and not Google. I hear that Waze is being added however. Also, the phone keypad won’t work when truck is in motion, which sucks. Try responding to an automated call when you can’t enter a single digit, even though it is much less distracting than doing many touchscreen functions that are permitted. I’ve had one problem with the truck that Ford can’t seem to solve yet. On cold mornings, the rear camera won’t work. As soon as the vehicle warms up, it works and there is no problem if the temperature is above about 45 degrees. My dealer has been unable to fix.

The seats are very comfortable for us, me 6-4 her 5-7. The ride is great. The back doors folding all the way back and completely opening up the passenger compartment is awesome for loading. One recall to keep the door locks from freezing. Power is impressive. I get 21-22 in both local and hwy driving. Been to the dealer several times to check this out. Hwy rating 26. Speed kills the mileage. We did a loop in Main on state hwys 60 max, through a few small towns, got 27.5 actual, Ford shows about 7% high on average. We get about 12 mpg pulling our 4000# Micro Mini at 60 – 65. If I try to jump off the line the tires break loose at maybe 1/3 throttle. At 60 6th 1500, 5th 1800, 4th 2400, 3rd 3000 RPM. I can lock out top gears and unless it is very flat or a tail wind I lock out 6th pulling the camper. It takes a pretty steep grade to hit 3rd, and stay out of the way it’s holding speed. Passed semis barely moving. Drives so well, my wife tows the camper on open road to give me a break. She spoke up going through Texas, “oh I am going 80”. I thought “we are burning lots of gas”. Have 62K using 10K oil changes, and oil does not seem to go down. I like the displays and Sync. The individual tire pressures are great. Had a low pressure light come on. Switched to the pressure screen. I knew to stop as the pressure dropped every few seconds, saved the tire. I recently drove a friends 21 V8 Silverado. The power was not anywhere close to mine! Glad I am not stuck with it. Nov 2022 update: Finally added oil at 67,000 miles. Hopefully not a trend. Replaced the the tires at 75K. No body rust so far.

Just purchased a 2wd XL with the STX package and some extra goodies. Sync 3, power windows/locks, backup camera, 20inch rims, towing we’re all a part of this at $23,995. Factor in our trade value of $7,500 and adding an auto start and a set of studded tires for the winter to it (not totally uneducated) and also a warranty and we sat back at just under $22k for a pretty sweet setup. Driving with the 2.7 was remarkable with power everywhere and smooth shifts from the 6-speed and decent sound from motor. Cabin is remarkably quiet and pleasant with enough soft touch items to make it feel more upscale. With the car market now this was an extremely unusual score at close to $7k under book after options so we were willing to accept 2wd with some help from studded tires in the winter. Keep in mind this is typically not what I’d recommend for those that haven’t been here for long periods of time! If you’re looking for a good truck then ford is probably the way to go. Keep in mind they tend to be more expensive due popularity, parts availability and the market share of vehicles they sell. With so many configurations you’re bound to find something you like. Will post an update here in the winter months with some predictable wording based on studded tire experience

I recently bought my 2017 F150 in April of 2021 and traded in my precious vehicle for something bigger. Although I love everything about the engine (2.7L EcoBoost), the ride, and the smoothness, I have had one thing that concerned me. Whenever I approach a stop sign, red light, etc. my vehicle lights to “jerk” or “clunk” right before coming to a stop. I can hear it and feel it. Sometimes it is more noticeable and sometimes not as noticeable. I have brought it to dealerships and other shops and no one can replicate the action which is infuriating. I wish i could know what it is. I am hoping it’s not the (6 speed) transmission. It might be the slip yoke but I am not sure. Wish Ford could not have these small problems with their expensive trucks.

Eco boost was a pleasant surprise. Plenty of power, decent gas mileage. Love the STX package!
