Used 2021 Toyota Highlander SUV Consumer Reviews
Severe road noise from Toyo tires at highway speed
Purchased a 2021 Highlander XLE equipped with OEM Toyo Cross Country A43 tires. The noise in the cabin at speeds over 55 mph are so loud even the radio is unable to cover the distraction of the tire noise. Avoid these tires. Perhaps Toyota will do more in their vehicles to isolate road noises.

Our Second Highlander - Still Impressed
We didn't need a big third row, it's just for the grandkids. Upgraded from a 2015 XLE (which we sold to our daughter) to a new Limited. Besides the back seat, it is otherwise more impressive than competition. When you factor in resale and reliability projections, it's a better investment than the Koreans. Very comfortable, excellent acceleration and Limited package pushes it into legit luxury car comparisons.

Nice but not perfect
I've owned two Audi A4's in the last 20 years and wanted something larger for the two kids and grand-parents on occasion. Also, I grew tired of Audi's quick depreciation and issues with oil consumption with their direct-injection engines. The handling of the Highlander is ok, but I definitely need to slow down around corners which I never had to do with an A4. The suspension is much softer and can handle speed-bumps without slowing down. The cabin is much quieter than the Audi. I cross shopped with the 2022 Acura MDX and the MDX's cabin was much nicer overall, but had much more of that terrible piano black plastic that shows dust easily. Also, the MDX had a push-button shifter and non-touch screen which ruined the vehicle for me. The digital rear-view mirror in the Highlander is nice, but turned out to be useless if you wear eye glasses for distance, as the image will be blurry. Its a shame, since the mirror's image is much sharper than the rear-view camera. Parking and manouverability are great and the highlander feels like a much smaller car. I was afraid that parking in my 8 ft. wide garage would be tricky, but after a few days, I could drive in without worrying about clipping the mirrors. Overall the tech in the car works fine once everything is set-up. I've had no issues with the car except that the fuel consumption is very high in mostly city driving. It's around 17L/100km.

Bad transmission
Really frustrated because of this 8spd transmission. On rolling speed before stop and accelerating feels like too jerky and kinda downshifting. Very bad Toyota can’t fix this issues.
