Used 2003 Toyota Corolla Consumer Reviews
Good Commuter Car
I'm not a Toyota person at all but family members of mine own it & i drive it all the time. It gets excellent gas mileage and is very reliable. The ride is smooth and fun, it would make a good car to learn to drive in. The design is bland (as are all toyotas) but the interior quality is top-notch and after 6 years its in amazing shape inside and out. The inside is also roomy and comfortable but there aren't many cup holders. But overall, I think it;s a great car for the money and would recommend it for someone who just needs a cheap, reliable car to get from point A to B.
Worst Car Ever
Nothing but trouble! Six check engine lights due to emissions failures. Transmission replaced at 2000 miles.Interior and exterior pieces falling off this is a lemon Very disappointing considering Toyotas reliability in the past on this vehicle big disappointment considering the high standards one normally expects from a Toyota!!!!
So-so
I cried the day I let go of my 1999 Chevy Prizm LSi... and the only reason I was able to do so was because I found this 2003 Toyota Corolla CE and thought, why not? So similar... Turns out.. Not so. Granted, I bought this car Well Used, but I did the same with the Prizm, which had 209k at purchase. This Corolla had 214k.. Prizm never needed much work, but the Corolla... to start off, the clear coat is peeling, hard core. There's almost none left. The brakes were brand new when I purchased, but ... bad. No stopping power, and an attrocious squawk anytime you do any more than barely breathe on them. The front end growls at you, no matter how you drive. It flat out growls. And now gets even louder when making a turn. The shocks/struts/springs all failed at once. Now the car doesn't feel safe to drive on top of being noisy. And I don't have it budgeted to get anything replaced at this time. :/ Fuel econ? What fuel econ? I can't figure out what happened in 4 years to make an engine go from getting 43 hwy, to 26 at best... Prizm and Corolla are both 1.8L engines... Flat out, I'm keeping an eye out on the local used car lots for something to trade this car off on.. Worst 3k I've spent in my life, and I've only had the car since Aug 2019, and it's currently March 2020. I tend to keep a car til the wheels fall off. But I think that point is right around the corner with this little rattle trap. My husband is cranky because I keep running off with his car lately. Especially considering I'm not honestly all that fond of his '17 Elantra (far too many bells and whistles. lol.). I'm hoping to at least break even with this monstrocity of a car... Most people will over pay for a Toyota just because of the name (I know I did!)

Not as good gas mileage
I traded in my Jeep Cherokee for better gas mileage only to find that I'm getting between 19 and 23 miles per gal. around the city on my 2003 corolla 1.8. By the way it is an automatic transmission.
was good until after a year
i had the car for a year with 80,000 mile on it and everything was excellent for the first year. after the year past, my mpg just tanked on me and i was only getting 12 mpg. it got loud when i am driving on the highway, the rear speakers had static sounds. the brakes just sucked with the crappy ABS in it. then i got into my accident. the passenger seat belt didn't lock when my passenger side got hit, the airbag blew. then when they went back the seat belt lock. good car, but not good in accidents.
