User Unfriendly

We selected the 4Runner based on headroom, oh well, it fooled me. The driver's side is vertically adjustable and during the test drive it seemed to be just marginal. I'm not real big but at 6'1" after purchasing the vehicle for my wife I found that the passenger's seat is too restrictive to bring my head along for the ride unless the seat is reclined. With the unconventional layout of the controls as an occasional user I find myself stopping on the side of the road to find things. Fuel economy is marginal at best when the cost of premium is factored (didn't know that at time of purchase). It gets really bad when towing, at 8 mpg towing 4000 lbs that about 30% more expensive than my club cab 5.9L Ram.

I almost did not buy it! I drove a 4Runner years ago and I did not like it, but a car expert friend suggested me to drive the 2005 V8, WHAT A SURPRISE! I test drove the GX 470 Lexus first, The Toyota Limited is as good ride! This is an incredible SUV. Acceleration is amazing for a SUV. The ride is so confortable that sometimes I forgot I had an SUV. I bought it a year ago, driven more than 30,000 miles through the mountains and deserts of California, Utah, Nevada, Idaho, Colorado and Arizona, through , rain, ice and snow and this truck performes like a charm! I bought new Michelin tires last week, WOW EVEN BETTER RIDE! Service is great. Confortable for 5 passengers. Buy it.

I was very happy when the first two year. Everything goes downhill when I took it off road once. Bad gas mileage. Used to be combination of local and highway got me 22-24. As now with only 40,000 miles on it gives only 16-17. And cd player went out at 35,999 mile. Not just that, the tire sensor went out too.

Best Mid-Sized SUV on Market!

I've read most of the posts here, and most of positive ones are right on. We have the 2005 v8 4x4, and it's exceeded our expectations. Plenty of power, interior room is good and the height-adjustable driver seat is very comfortable and accommodates a variety of body types. Towing our 2300 lb popup camper from Denver to Page AZ with climate control gave us 16mpg at average of 65mph! That's pretty good! Control layout is very good. MPG in town has been a consistent 17, and we've had as much as 24 on highway. It's been as bad as 16, but if you don't drive it like you stole it, it will easily do 18.
