The Step Up From Toyota I Needed
HeatwaveCA, 04/01/2024
2024 Lexus UX 250h 4dr SUV (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)
I had been driving economy cars for awhile and knew I wanted something nice to get as my first vehicle. Not needing all the extra features of fully loaded Toyota trims nor needing a bigger car, but still wanting the reliability - the UX was perfect. The materials, build quality, and efficiency are top notch. Didn’t want to sacrifice at the pump while wanting a nice car, and will go EV … with the world in a decade or two. The size is NO WHERE NEAR the issue that people make it out to be. If you’re used to sedans and city driving, this is the perfect size. I am 6’3 and fit better in this vehicle than most others of the same size and even a lot that are larger. Easily have 5 adults in the car for any ride that doesn’t need luggage. Fits 4 adults with carry ons for weekend trips, or 2 adults with extended trip luggage. My base trim still came loaded with almost everything that makes the Premium Trim: Parking Assist, Power Lift Gate with kick sensor, moonroof, etc. I’ve never needed more power as the electric motor still give the acceleration needed to do any kind of real world passing. It is quicker and nicer than any economy box and for people stepping up into a luxury brand who are looking for reliability - there is no better option.

Did not meet expectations for reliability

2025 Lexus UX 300h 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)
Had two previous Lexus sedans which I loved for their reliability. This vehicle, 3 months old, was parked for three weeks while away, and when an attempt was made to start it, all alarms went off and it died. No lights or anything were left on. Battery would not hold a charge so had to be replaced. Was told by Lexus dealer that it would need to be plugged into a battery trickle (back … of car) if parked for more than a couple days as well as plugging in the normal front of car block heater in winter. Paid extra for roof racks installed, connection covers came off twice and had to be replaced. CarPlay disconnects randomly. It is okay on gas mileage and I like the drive assist features, although the system also shuts down randomly when doing highway driving which is annoying. Overall, not the car for me when I want reliability.
Great mileage in city, no physical AC button

2025 Lexus UX 300h 4dr SUV (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)
I've been getting better than 50 mpg while city driving, but the highway driving mpg (around 40 mpg) is poor -- many non-hybrids get better highway MPG. On high speed highways (75mph), the mileage drops to around 34 mph. Very disappointing since the UX has a very high coefficient of drag (0.33) and it is less efficient at higher speeds. A big minus for me is lack of a physical AC button … on the climate controls -- u have to use the touchscreen. bummer
