Absolute Best Midsized SUV

Toyota did what it consistently strives at... raising the bar for quality, reliability, performance, and style. The 4Runner, hands down, is the best SUV in the class. The ride and build quality show with inside and out. Compared to the so-called Big Three and it's overseas rivals, Toyota engineers and builders continue to drive over their competion with the best built components and workmanship. Trust me, I have driven just about every SUV out there and this 2005 4Runner will get you in and out of places the others tremble to think about. The VSC and braking system add to your confidence when driving. The gas mileage stands out with my average at 24 MPG highway. The ride is quiet and smooth.

We've owned the '05 Toyota 4Runner for 7 months and have been quite impressed. We've owned other SUVs and this one is the smoothest and most comfortable to drive. Surprisingly, for a truck-based SUV, it drives similar to a car. We opted for the V6 to save money and it has plenty of power. Of course we don't tow anything with it and we've heard the V8 is better for towing. On long drives (of 5 hours) it is easy to find a comfortable seating position.

My review of 2005 4 Runner with the V8

We really like this vehicle overall; just wish gas had not gone up like it did, for we had a 4 cylinder camry prior and it obviously got better mileage; still, on the open road, I've seen the gas monitor go as high as 24 to 29 mpg when driven between 40 and 55mph. I'd guess we were getting about 16 to 20 average though. The power this SUV has is very surprising. A friend of ours has a V6 version and I rode with him and during hard acceleration, I could only tell a little difference in the V6 and V8, so the V6 will serve you well also. I'd highly recommend the 4Runner; I just wish I had the 4 wheel drive version for those rare times we get snow or ice in this part of NC.

I love this car! I’ve had it since spring of ‘05. I really hate to part with it but I’m not sure if I should do some long distance traveling with it. As of no there are no problems with it! It is a great cat!! I wish they were t $50,000!!! I’d definitely purchase another if I had the money!!

I love, love, loved my trusty 4 runner. I had it since new never had one single issue in the 11 tears I owned it. owned a 1994 with v6 before that. trusty no problems but no "oomph" so I sold it. My insurance refused to pay for the repairs on the v8 caused by a sandwich collision caused by a CHP vehicle ( cost to repair was 10.6k) was easily driveable after the accident just looked like total crap and didn't want to risk taking it as salvage plus cash.It had only 68k miles on that reliable gutsy v8. Don't like the new model at ball; too boxy and smaller/more cramped feeling interior than the old one.. Been searching for a replacement but truly, nothing compares.
