Overview
Redesigned for 2025, the Mini Countryman is a compact crossover SUV with five-person seating. Positioned as an alternative to entry-luxury SUVs, the Countryman has a quirky and colorful personality, inside and out, and turbocharged engines supply speedy acceleration. In addition, an electric version offers gas-free driving and a modest 212 miles of estimated range. The new-and-improved 2025 Countryman is larger than the model it replaces, making it more comfortable and capable of carrying cargo. However, based on our initial impressions, it isn't as fun to drive.

Am I Ready for an EV?
EV ownership works best if you can charge at home (240V outlet) This typically means a 240V home installation, or other places your car is parked for several hours each day. Don't expect a regular household outlet (120V) to suffice.

Edmunds spotlight: About the Countryman's new tech
Mini advances the Countryman's technology on two fronts. The first concerns the infotainment system, housed in a circular center touchscreen that mimics the oversized speedometers found in old Minis. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, Spotify is built-in, and the digital voice assistant is a British dog named Spike (you can change that). You can even use AirConsole technology to transform your smartphone into a video game controller and play on the center display. The second front is the SUV's safety tech, which is more refined overall and now includes a hands-free driving assistance feature that works at speeds under 37 mph.
Competitors to consider
Mini prices and positions the Countryman as an alternative to typical entry-level luxury crossover SUVs. Primary rivals include the Audi Q3 and electric Q4 E-tron, the Mercedes-Benz GLB and electric EQB, and the Volvo XC40 and electric EX40. The performance-oriented John Cooper Works competes in a more rarefied market, counting the BMW X1 M35i and Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 as its main competitors.
Which Countryman does Edmunds recommend?
Unless you want the electric version of the new Countryman, we recommend the S All4 trim level with the Iconic equipment and Favoured Style appearance packages. The drivetrain offers standard all-wheel drive with good acceleration, and the upgrade packages unlock appealing features and a more expressive look. Consider getting the adaptive suspension option for improved ride and handling qualities.
