nice cruiser
Good cruiser, plenty of room for a big family or lots of friends, for an auto this size it gets 20 to 24 mph, even while cruising at 85 mph fully loaded with luggage and passengers (legal in West Texas). Only minor repairs and normal maintenance over the 20 years we've owned her.

Car That Grandpa Almost Never Drove
Purchased the '96 LS as an estate sale from a relative in Las Vegas. This vehicle had sat for one year under a carport near McAllen, Tx....Was in pristine condition w/only 24.8K mi. Paid $200 less than Wholesale. However at 32K mi. had to replace lower control arms (Ball joints rusted on from long term standing).Excellent vehicle /comfortable /Hwy cruiser. 24-25mpg@65, 22-23@70, 18- 19 local....Now live in So. Fla..All the old guys drive Grand Marquis... Great car ! !

Excellent vehicle for the american road
In simply two words the car is "Bullet proof". Purchased used with 56K, drove it 90K on one set of tires with no need for wheel alignments and tire rotation. Acceleration is excellent and it's quiet, roomy and comfortable. Now at 183K miles it looks and runs like a new car. You would never know that it has high miles on it. I average 21.9 MPG in combo driving and it can take a beating, being driven 100 miles every day to commute. Recently took it on a road trip 3000 miles in 4 days and it ran flawlessly at around 26.5 MPG.
Mercury Grand Marquis - Experiences
Generally, this car has been very, very dependable and comfortable to ride on a daily basis. The down side is on a long trip, the seats do not give as much support as they should, resulting in back-aches. The car is very long, and the suspension is rather "floppy" in that it is "swooshy", and not tight like a more sporty model. The turning radius is not tight.
Marquis
Lost water pump at 98000. Intake manifold at 110000. Ford recalled intakes on police and livery use models only. Seats hard on bottom for long drives. Lost sensor at exhaust manifold a 63000. Lost sensor at catalytic 111000. Spark plug wires wear prematurely. Otherwise, A great car.
