Limited Cherokee
I am the first and only owner. Jeep gets detailed once a month faithfully and regular maintenance records are available. Excellent condition.
Happy W/Grand Cherokee
Have over 75K miles and only thing other than normal maintenance needed was a fuel filter at 51K and radiator hose at 68K. Gets far better mileage than the EPA rating and is roomy and comfortable. Could handle better, but it is an SUV. Have heard others complain, but it gets better fuel economy and has been just as reliable as my previous SUV (Toyota 4Runner). Would buy another one in a second. Maybe people have problems due to way they maintain their vehicles.

Great Vehicle....
When you buy a used vehicle you should know that there will be repairs that need to be made. I bought this Jeep knowing that it needed repairs....to me its a project vehicle ... its what I do...there is basically nothing I can't do to a vehicle. It took me a month to get it up to speed with everything working. It drives great, handles very well and will get me to the ski hill this winter. All vehicles have issues from new to used, and yes it can get costly...I'm always looking for project vehicles at a good price...gives me something to do...

Good SUV, but lots of minor problems
Bought this GC new in 2001, and really enjoyed it for the first 3 years or so, with just routine maintenance. For an SUV, I'm happy with the MPG at 20-21. I still have enjoyed driving it, in the last few years several minor (and 1 major) problems have popped up. Headlight assembly cracked, causing the inside casing to become fogged. Each of the front power windows have failed (causing the window to slip down in the door. Of course, the first time this happened it was raining, the second time it was about 102 degrees!!! Brake rotors become warped about once every 18mos. Bad catalytic conv. at 90K & replaced tranny at 125K mi. Still fun to drive but the rep.& maint. is really annoying.
Love That Jeep
I just recently bought my Jeep, and I can tell you that it is one of the best vehicles I have ever owned. The acceleration is top notch; it will even keep up with some of the best sports cars. I love the interior. The seats are so comfortable. The controls are laid out well, and I love the steering wheel audio controls. The sound system in the vehicle is almost as good as some aftermarket systems. I really like the body style and love the 17" wheels and tires. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone who wants a very competent on/off road SUV.
Need to improve several problems
This car has several issues that they should recall. My particular problem has been with the power windows. First you hear a popping noise, then down your windows go and don't come back up until you get them fixed. I've had to replace two at over $300. I also am having the brakes act up now as mentioned on previous reviews. I like the car in general but improvements need to be made.
Not bad, but not excellent either
A great SUV with a turning radius that is unbelievable. The power from the 4.7 is smooth and torquey. Have had some problems though. Had the brake rotors replaced once already and the fuel pump. Also something with the struts I believe. The car tows well and the mileage is decent.
Another Love - Hate relationship
Been in for warranty service 3 times now in the past 4 months, coolant leak, check engine light (O2 sensor), H2O pump. What next??? Handles poorly - Steering isn't very precise. I depend on my 4WD vehicles in Baja and right now I do not trust this one. I am looking at using it for a trade-in for a 4WD crew cab PU. What a shame!
Good, not great.
We bought our 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2003. I think at the time it had about 40k miles on it. Like many others, weve had to have had do to more-than-routine maintenance on the brakes; however, I must be fair and let you know that we drive in the mountains of NC pretty much on a daily basis. We researched the absolute heck out of cars before deciding on the JGC. My wifes last car was a 1995 Honda Passport which absolutely about did us in in terms of maintenance (our mechanics put 4, I repeat, 4 engines in that car before it was fixed). Anyways, after doing much research, we found that the Jeep in-line 6 has one of the best reputations out there in terms of reliability, so we went wi
I speak the Truth
I like the size and the power of the truck. I do like the body style of this year truck also.
"Don't make a pretty woman your wife"
This vehicle never should have been allowed on the market. The dealers have been trained to tell consumers that "everything is normal for that vehicle". It has become known for differential and brake rotor problems, just to mention a few. I must say, it is the most comfortable riding SUV I have driven.....but that is NOT ENOUGH>
looks good...runs bad
Bought in 05 with 65,xxx miles on it. Other then routine maintenance, just switched out the alternator. Been through 3 serp belts,no idea why. CD player is crapping out on me. Front two speakers are going out. Cooling fan went out at 89,xxx. At 126,xxx, needing new relay switch, A/C light wont come on unless the defrosters are on. Alignment keeps going out. Rear axle keeps leaking. Fuel pump is starting to go out. All not major problems...but when they add up it gets annoying. My favorite part is that the car leaks water every time it rains. The weather stripping is fine except for around the sunroof. No mechanic I know can figure out why it does...
DON'T BUY ONE!!!
This was the second Jeep Cherokee that I have owned, the first was a 1985 2- door Pioneer. This one was nothing but problems, transmission, radiator, stalling, etc... The vehicle was towed twice (the roadside assistance was the only thing I could rely on!). Gas mileage combined never was better than 16.1 mpg. The Goodyear tires spin on the first sign of a damp road. I traded the Jeep with 9,500 miles for a Volvo S60 AWD, awesome car! It will get me through the NE weather just fine without havinf to walk.
Unique Deal!
This was a second vehicle for vacations. Mostly highway mileage and the V8 engine was rebuilt a few years ago. Only 139,000 miles on the car and almost everything replaced at 120,000 miles including the engine. Great condition. I have all repair records and documentation. Just a great value and must see and drive. Very capable for off road or snow vacations.

ITS A LEMON
WHERE SHOULD I BEGIN , I PURCHASED THIS CAR BECAUSE I LIKED THE LOOK AND BECAUSE OF THE 0 % FINANCING.BIG MISTAKE I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT THE BMW X5 WHICH HELD ITS VALUE COMPARED TO THE JEEP.IVE HAD PROBLEM AFTER PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND NOW THEY TELL ME ITS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AFTER 36,000 MILES.
Used for Everything
I bought this Jeep and have used it like a Jeep. I off road, carry friends and dogs, tow my boat, and load it up with cargo for a weekend with the guys up in Vermont. Overall, I love my Grand Cherokee, this is my 2nd one, the 1st being a '97. I just turned 100,000 on it and have had absolutely no drive train problems. It drive to NC frequently and the trip is always comfortable. The ride is great for a solid axle SUV, replace the shocks with Bilstein's for an even better ride.
Never a Jeep again
It is my first time( and for sure my last) to buy a Chrysler product. I bought the car in june, 2001 new. I had lots of problems with it: serpentine belt was replaced, tenssioner was replaced, steering column was replaced, brakes roaters were replaced two times, bad paint spot on the door, molding around the wind sheeld needed to be re-glued, the oil pupm was replaced, a valve in the transmission body was replaced, side mirros were replaced. The most annoying thing is these issues were never resolved by the first or the second or even the third visit. It is a nightmare dealing with the dealership I deeply regret my experinece. BUYERS BE AWARE
Love my Jeep
Great Vehicle! This has been a family vehicle for years. This is my second Jeep and Jeeps have been in my family for years.
Buyer Beware
Where do I start... The front and rear differential seals have been replaced along with the seal around the oil pan. Suupossedly bad from the factory. Plus the control for the climate control went out after 3000 miles and did I mention that the sun roof leaks and they have replaced the headliner. Oh, and by the way the driver's side seat heater was replaced and now the passenger side is going out as well. So far this has all been under warranty but when it's up this car is going to cost me a fortune. Don't just take my word for it, read the other reviews. Buyer beware unless you want to spend alot of time at the delear's repair shop.
Excellent Vehicle
Changed battery, brakes and tires. This vehicle has been very solid car all around. Great in snow. Could get better fuel economy. Tows my 4500# trailer with straight six.
Reliable Grand
I purchased my 2001 in 2002 with 13,000 miles on it. The only problem I had with it was the brake rotors warping, and the slotted rotors cured that. I took my Grand to numerous states for Jeep Jamborees and it performed great ! People at the Jamborees were amazed at the capability of the Grand. I had an ARB steel bull bumper, Old Man Emu shocks and springs, and a K&N filter system on it. It was comfortable on the street and trails. I traded it in 2008 when it had over 250,000 miles on it due to an incurable death wobble with the front axle.
love it
This is the second Jeep I've driven. Own a 1998 also. Seems there is a recurring problem with the rear ends of jeeps. Loud noise or screech when going over bumps or putting car in reverse. Problems with 2001 brakes and with window regulators. Replaced passenger side in July. Now the driver's side is stuck in the up position til I can fix it. The hood and tail gate don't stay up. Sensor 2 light goes off and on. I like the way it handles and goes anywhere in the snow. I feel pretty safe driving it but worry about the brakes and Windows. Have never replaced window regulators ever before and have driven many different makes and models of cars.
Great comfortable reliable Jeep
I bought my jeep used with 60k miles in 2005 and it now has a little over 95k. I love it! It is very comfortable and fun to drive. The limited trim really makes it upscale and the leather seats are like pillows very nice. The exterior and interior are very nice and the build quality is good. Better than the new 05+ grand cherokee's in my opinion. The newer ones just seem cheaper. The 4.7L V8 is a great powerful engine that still gets pretty good gas mileage. The V8 really makes this jeep a fun to drive suv not to mention it tows my boat great. My jeep has only required normal service. No major or expensive repairs. Would recommend this suv and would buy another one.
2001 Bought new. Good luck so far.
Our second Jeep. This limited v8 model is a keeper even though there have been the usual Jeep failings 1) brake calipers (which after the third time Jeep replaced on a recall with some super slotted disks for free. No problems since then). 2) hood struts ($300 to replace so still broken. We never have occasion to go under the hood anyway). 3) seat heater. 4) heater box mechanism. All in all very few repairs for 147,000 and nine years use. We are very pleased with this vehicle
Transmission problems
I did love my Jeep until I had transmission problems at 62000 miles. Brought it for repair and they put in a new software but 3 weeks later while on a road trip the tranny went out. It is at a dealership 9 hrs away now getting a new transmission at 65000 miles, luckily I have an extended warranty but this does not cover my expenses of getting the car back and renting a car to get home. Also the seat heaters went out 2 times once under warranty which I fixed and then out of warranty which I chose not to fix for $500. Will never own a Jeep again.
Jeep Grand Cherokee
We have been very pleased with our Jeep. There has been only 1 problem. The vehicle would jump when accelerating up a small hill while in CC.We wish there was better gas mileage.I am concerned with the Seat Belt Buckles opening in a crash or roll- over. I have written Chrysler and the dealer. We do not back out of the drive-way without buckling up. Because of rear wheel drive and the tendency for SUV's to roll, I don't feel as safe as I did in a our min-van. We are happy with the 7 yr. 100,000 mile warranty. P.S. I always carry a drink cup filled with ice and it is exactly across from the buckle so you can see why I am concerned.
Cost of Ownership Very HIGH
I bought my 2001 Laredo 4WD 6cyl. hoping for a high quality SUV. I have been disappointed! The front driver seat broke loose from the floor after 5000 miles. The dealer replaced the seat incorrectly causing more problems at 20,000 miles. The Jeep changes gears VIOLENTLY!! Finally it stopped shifting at 48,000 miles and $600.00 later the "transmission govenor" was replaced with marginal results. Rear seat not secured well, lots of annoying "clicks" and "tick" noises that cannot be identified! I would not recommend this vehicle.
Love it! but not perfect!
I have only had one major problem with my Jeep when I needed a new transmission at about 110,000 miles. Other than that it drives great and is very reliable. Awesome in the snow! It will drive through anything! Comfortable to drive and handles well. The gas mileage can be pretty brutal especially if you try to go above 70.
Watch the brakes
This has been a pretty good car for us, with two exceptions. First, there was a knock in the rear end that could not be found for over a year. The "spider gear" in the differential was rattling and had to be replaced. Second, the front end braking system is too small for the weight of this vehicle. You will go through rotors very quickly. My first set was replaced at 15,000 miles. I am goint to have to replace them again at 45,000. This time, with a very heavy duty, heat displacing rotor.
Jeep Grand Cherokee- Hi Country
The Grand Cherokee has been a wonderful vehicle. It has had zero manufacturing flaws, despite being a totally loaded vehicle. The 4WD is unstoppable. We have the Hi Country package which has an inch more ground clearance. This is not a fake SUV it's the real thing. A nice plus is Jeep paint. I have never see a post Chrysler purchase Jeep with rust damage (except wher there is serious body damage).
Happy wih a Jeep
Right after we purchased the Grand Cherokee My wife was caught in a long ride home during a snowstorm and when I called her she was calm saying she felt safe and in control. My wife and son's safety is very important and the Jeep proved itself worthy on yet another occasion. Late one evening she was on her way home from a friend's house on a stretch of dark road when a deer crossed her path. The only evidence she hit a deer was some fur in the grille. Could other SUV's perform like this...maybe...but The Jeep did!
Greatly Dissappointed
I purchase my Jeep new in 2001. I have less than 30,000 miles on it, and since I took possession I have had the suv in the shop 7 times for major problems (same ones over and over). The steering column replaced twice, rotors replaced, fuel pump replaced and best of all it goes into the shop again tommorrow for the same problems. I did my homework and gave the dealership a list of the service bullentins I pulled of the internet the last time when I was told since I was a female I didn't know what I was talking about when explaining my issues. Sounds like since I have a lease, I need to just turn my keys in and let them have the headache.
2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 2WD 4dr
Purchased new in 2001. What a mistake, I should have gone for the 4-Runner. I have had to replaced all rotors, calipers and pads twice within the first 25K mi. Three window regulators so far at a whopping $225 each. The reverse gears went out of the transmission. Had to have it rebuilt at a cost of $1800. Idle control value went bad at 75K. Almost forgot, had the have the leaking plastic radiator replaced also.
Drivin a Jeep and Lovin It
Just bought a 2001 Grand Cherokee 60th Anniversary Ed. and absolutely love it. Only one problem. Brakes. Had rotors and pads replaced at 37,000. Ride comfort is superb in front seats and rear. Controls are easy to figure out and easy to use. Love the radio controls on the wheel. Road noise is moderate and has a nice hum. Offroad capabilities are amazing for a lux ute.
Some Good - Some Bad
I purchased my new 2001 well into 2002 and it was a spur of the moment purchase, which was unfortunate because I should have done more research - I may have passed. It's been a nice ride, but don't expect it to have a long life.
Unfounded Fears?
Heard lots of negatives beforehand, but with the exception of the front rotors (repaired once, then replaced 2nd time), I haven't had any problems whatsoever. And, my local Jeep guy made sure that the rotor work was covered by my warranty, even though it was past the 12k-mile brake warranty. Other than that, it's been a pleasure to own!
Poor Reliability and Customer Service
This was my second JGC. Had trouble with transmission reliability on the 1st, but not until late in ownership. 2d Jeep had xsmn problems from the start. I took it into the dealership multiple times; they kept supposedly fixing it, but the transmission would continue to shift rough. It ended up in the shop 4 X in 16 months for xsmn problems. It should have been in more times than that, but I kept relying on the service personnel that the problems were minor. Only on the 4th trip-- after the warranty had just expired-- was a substantial $350 problem diagnosed. Despite the Hx, Corporate HQ refused to cover the repair under the warranty.
Second Jeep... will buy a third!
I bought my first Jeep in 1996. I liked it so much that I bought another one. My family liked my cars so much that my brother bought a 2000, and my dad just bought a 2005. I have heard that Jeeps have reliability issues, but at 71K I have only replaced tires, brakes, and a blower motor (within warranty). Jeeps have unparalleled off-road capability and the torque will beat just about any car on the road off the line. The car looks very classy inside and out. Definitely a head turner. I will drive this Jeep till the wheels fall off and then buy another one. I LOVE MY JEEP! p.s. definitely buy v8!
Happy so far!
I love everything about my 2001 Limited Jeep so far. I've only had one problem. I had to replace the front brakes because of a shimmey in the front end. Best looking SUV on the road today, bar none.
satisfied owner
The 2001 jeep (v8) has excellent, smooth power and gets the exact same gas mileage as our 6cyl.(17 city,19 hiway). Acceptable smooth ride for a 4X4. Has been very reliable so far with only a few small problems (seat heater and warped brake rotors). Dealer very responsive and good to deal with. We don't like the leather seats, too slippery and uncomfortable. Drivers hand and elbow position on the steering wheel awkward and uncomfortable. We love the car and would buy another.
My Jeep Works
I've been impressed with my 6-cyl. GC; has 14,000+ miles, no problems with brakes or anything else. It is fun to drive, good size for parking and traffic, and so far, is holding up great.
who would've thought
We bought the GC for the Ohio winters. 4WD is great, but it's the stupid little things that keep breaking. The lock in the rear hatch had to be replaced, the drivers seat broke (and we couldn't get another one that wasn't broken in the same spot, so it had to be welded), This thing eats rotors for breakfast, had to replace the water pump at 40k. Other than that, it's a good vehicle
Last Jeep for me
I have always loved Jeeps. I had five new ones before I purchased a new 2001 fully loaded. I have had four brake jobs, replaced the steering wheel, the drive shafts, the window regulator, the water pump, the speakers, several sensors, major transmission work, the battery, electronic ignition problems. It was bad enough having to do these things to a $32,000 car, but the treatment from Chrysler and the costs have soured me on any more of their products. Since I have always taken excellent care of my autos, this car still looks like it did the day it left the showroom 4 years ago. Brand new condition. It is parked in my garage, and I drive my Infiniti. Too bad because I used to like Jeep.
First Jeep!
I would never have shown up for this unless my Dad had bought a 300 and had a great experience. Well, yes the front discs have been replaced - no problem. I hit an 8 point buck with it when it was 2 months old - 7k damage but it did not even spill my coffee. Repairs by dealership were absolutely to as new. I love the motor sound of the V8. The stereo makes supurb music. The gas mileage is +2 over a V6 Explorer. All features are well thought out and work!! I have towed and it is immpecable towing. I live in bad weather and it is unfaltering in snow and ice.
I wouldn't buy a jeep again
I wouldn't buy a jeep again. I bought the car knowing that jeeps aren't the most reliable. The car was towed twice, and has been in the shop at least 2 other times. But don't forget, you're buying an American car, and your really buying a suuped up wrangler.
excellent!
I love driving my Jeep, it is so much fun and so reliable! I drive in snow almost 7 months of the year and it handles great in the snow. It gets me through anything! I have recommended this vehicle to family members and friends and would recommend to anyone. I have not had any problems with it and I don't think that I ever will. It has been awesome!
Transmission terminator
This Grand cherokee is a great truck when it is running, I have had my transmission rebuilt twice under warranty and replaced once, I have had this vehicle back from the dealership for about 10 months and my transmission is going out AGAIN, not to mention that my front end when in 4 wheel drive sounds like It has metal binding when I turn my steering wheel. I bought the extended warranty (thankfully) and will be taking it back in to have it fixed even though the dealership always tries to give it back saying there is nothing wrong with it but in the end they see it my way and start fixing things.
2nd one, its been great so far....
2nd Grand Cherokee that I have purchased. This has been an overall great vehicle. I had 1 TBS item taken care of under warranty and I had to replace the front pads at 33,000 miles.
Good Vehicle
I've been happy with my Laredo. Good looks in interior and exterior. Fuel economy isn't so good, but I was used to driving an Accord. Driver's seat could be a little more comfortable for the long drive. Only real complaint is interior noise is high.
Very enjoyable
We bought the vehicle used, 1 year old. It now has 65k miles on it and have had 2 problems up to date. I had to replace the driver side window regulator. Plastic piece broke. New piece made with metal. Recirc door for the a/c had to be fixed. New piece supposed to be an upgraded fix. Neither problem overly expensive.
