The I-Pace is a few years old now, but it's still an impressive machine that exudes style, performance and elegance unlike anything else in its segment. This all-wheel-drive electric SUV delivers impressive dynamic capabilities too, and while it isn't the most efficient EV in the class, it proved it can exceed its official EPA range estimates in our real-world testing. Jaguar is only offering the I-Pace in top trim HSE, but it has dropped the price to make it fairly competitive against other midsize electric SUVs.

Overview
The I-Pace is Jaguar's only electric vehicle, and it was one of the first all-electric luxury SUVs to hit the market when it was introduced for the 2019 model year. It's a compelling EV boasting a luxurious interior with lots of technology and enough power to hit 60 mph from a stop in just 4.5 seconds when we tested it. The low-slung design gives the Jaguar a distinctive look, and it's not just for show, as the I-Pace delivers an engaging driving experience. The electric Jag also provides a comfortable ride and an ample amount of room for passengers.

For 2023, the I-Pace receives Amazon Alexa integration. Alexa is a voice command system that can be used for navigation guidance, playing music, making phone calls and more. Wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is also new for 2023, and wireless smartphone charging is added to the I-Pace's list of standard features.
When the I-Pace was first released, it had very few rivals, but that's not the case in today's quickly growing luxury EV segment, which now includes the Audi e-tron, the Genesis GV60 and the Cadillac Lyriq, one of the newest electric luxury SUVs. Driving range is one area where the I-Pace falls behind when compared to rivals. When equipped with 20-inch wheels, it has an EPA-estimated range of 246 miles, but that drops to 217 miles with the optional 22-inch wheels. However, in Edmunds' real-world range test, the I-Pace drove 262 miles. Check out our Expert Rating below to get our test team's full review of the I-Pace's performance, tech and more.

Performance
8.0/10
How does the I-PACE drive? Though this Jag is now a veteran in the luxury EV segment, it's quite quick by most measures. You can get to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds without breaking a sweat or making much noise. It steers and handles with enthusiasm while maintaining good poise and control. If there's a reason to get the I-Pace over any of its newer competition, it's for the fun and engagement you can have at the wheel.
We complained about the abruptness of the brakes when the I-Pace was introduced, but those issues appear to have been resolved on the latest models. That doesn't mean the brakes are flawless now — our test car's emergency stopping distances were still longer than average for a luxury EV, and the I-Pace's regenerative braking won't bring you to a complete stop. That latter detail may seem trivial but makes a big difference in the day-to-day driving experience.

Comfort
7.5/10
How comfortable is the I-PACE? The I-Pace, like most of the luxury EVs in this class, offers a good degree of everyday comfort. The seats may not adjust in all the ways we'd dream of, but we found them supportive and satisfying even on an all-day drive. The I-Pace's adaptive air suspension has a slightly firm and sporty feel to it but manages to take enough of the edge off most bigger bumps in the roads that we don't have any real complaints. And though the I-Pace's cabin was quantifiably not as quiet as others according to our sound meter, we found it to be audibly peaceful.
The only real letdown is the climate control system, which is simultaneously weak and cumbersome to adjust. The dials that control the temperature zones serve triple duty, also controlling seat temperature and fan speed. Even after a couple of weeks of use, we found it difficult to make fumble-free adjustments. The front seats have both heat and ventilation functions, neither of which impressed our discerning derrieres.

Interior
7.5/10
How’s the interior? The I-Pace is on the smaller side for the segment, making it inherently less roomy than the rest. It still manages to provide a decent amount of space in both rows for average-size adults and we consider it family-friendly. Its sleeker raked profile means a little less head clearance when you're getting in. But there's plenty of headroom once you're inside thanks to the spacing-saving glass roof that's now ubiquitous in this class. The air suspension is also adjustable, allowing for varying levels of step-in height.
We're fairly confident most people will be able to find a comfortable driving position, though the I-Pace doesn't offer quite the range of seat adjustments its contemporaries do. The interior controls are a mixed bag — some are pretty straightforward to operate and others, like the climate controls, less so. Jaguar seems to prioritize form over function here, so at least things look pretty. Outward visibility is also a mixed bag. Forward and side visibility is amazing thanks to the way the front pillars and sideview mirrors are positioned. Then you look back through that short rear window with thick rear pillars and feel a bit more thankful that the I-Pace offers an optional surround-view camera system.

Technology
8.0/10
How’s the tech? Early production I-Paces suffered from laggy touchscreens, but that's no longer a problem. We found the current system relatively responsive and stable. We did have intermittent issues with Apple CarPlay smartphone projection failing to activate, but that's not something exclusive to Jaguar. The Jaguar's Meridian audio system is standard since only the top-of-the-line HSE trim exists now, but it's a good system that produces rich sound.
The I-Pace also comes with a fairly comprehensive suite of advanced driver aids. Advancements in these systems have set new performance standards, and the I-Pace's by comparison are mostly average. We thought the rear cross-traffic alert worked pretty well, but the adaptive cruise was a bit hit-and-miss. Sometimes the system was a little late to react, and the lane keeping assistance was prone to following the wrong lines or following cars ahead that were switching lanes.

Storage
7.5/10
How’s the storage? The I-Pace delivers a good dose of everyday utility even if it's a bit smaller than the average midsize electric SUV. The back seat is compatible with most any child safety seat, with easy-to-access seat anchors, and the cabin has an adequate amount of storage for loose odds and ends. The 23 cubic feet of cargo area is easy to load but on the narrow side. The compartment is uncommonly deep, though, and the 40/20/40-split rear seats fold nice and flat, opening up a good deal of space. The I-Pace does have a front trunk, but at less than a cubic foot of volume, it's mainly a good storage spot for the portable charger.
Range and Efficiency
7.5/10
How are the range and efficiency? The I-Pace HSE has an EPA-estimated range of 222 miles and is estimated to consume 45 kWh per 100 miles, which is among one of the least efficient EVs currently on sale. For some context, the Tesla Model X Long Range is rated at a much more efficient 33 kWh/100 miles (smaller numbers are better), and the BMW iX on 22-inch wheels (!) even fares better than the Jaguar at 39 kWh/100 miles.
Fortunately the I-Pace proved to be a bit less power-hungry in the real world. On Edmunds' real-world EV range loop, we drove 262 miles on a single charge, consuming much less energy at 36.3 kWh/100 miles. That's much closer to the competition.
The I-Pace comes with an 11-kW onboard charger (an upgrade from its previous 7-kW charger) that Jaguar estimates can add as much as 33 miles per hour at the highest level. It also has DC fast-charging capability up to 100 kW, which is slower than most of its competition can charge.

Value
8.0/10
Is the I-PACE a good value? The I-Pace is only available in HSE trim, which was previously the top trim. But prices have dropped significantly, making the I-Pace one of the more affordable midsize EV SUVs. It looks and mostly feels worth the price as long as range and interior space aren't a determinant in how you perceive value.
Jaguar's warranty has also been better than average, and that holds true for the I-Pace. Its five years/60,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper, powertrain coverage and roadside assistance and eight years/100,000 miles of battery coverage are decent. And although you won't need much in the way of maintenance other than keeping an eye on tires and wiper blades, Jaguar also provides free maintenance for the term of the bumper-to-bumper warranty.

Wildcard
8.5/10
The I-Pace surprised us when we first drove it, and it holds its own against today's competition, at least in terms of being fun to drive. Its shape is unique and isn't 100% SUV. Whatever you call it, it catches a few eyes because it's fun and interesting to look at. We kind of dig it, but we're also ready to see what Jaguar is up to next.
Which I-PACE does Edmunds recommend?
The HSE trim is your only choice with the I-Pace. But that's OK because it comes loaded with leather upholstery, heated and cooled front seats, a glass roof and a Meridian audio system. For additional luxury, select the Premium Upgrade Interior package, which adds leather on the interior panels and upgraded interior ambient lighting.

5/5 stars, I LOVE I-PACE!
Richard de Forest,
HSE 4dr Hatchback AWD (electric DD)
Edmunds is dead wrong in its incorrect review regarding the regenerative braking system. In "HIGH REGEN MODE" it gives me, instant powerful braking with smooth, NON JERKY, ONE PEDAL driving. Plain and simple! Edmunds needs to correct this inaccurate aspect of its review of the 2019 I Pace EV400/ AWD vehicle.
My I PACE performs perfectly and driving in ECO mode I'm averaging 224 … -239-mile driving range.
In updating my review of my 2019 I PACE (see above), the most important event was Jaguar increased the driving range from 237miles to 267 miles of driving range, with another increase in range to approximately 297 miles of driving range coming in the future This puts the I PACE at comparative ranges of the Tesla.
The car has given NO us problems and is a dream ride!
It's important to once again point out that Edmunds first (and continues to write incorrectly) that the braking was "grabby and jerky" using the recumbent braking system. The test driver had the car dialed in to the WRONG setting {LOW} instead of the HIGH setting. When correctly set in the HIGH recumbent mode the car is faultless at "One Pedal Driving". I'll probably get 100K miles before needing brakes.
Still LOVE MY I PACE!
The styling is unique and a mix of 'muscle' and elegance. People are constantly looking at the car and asking about it.
It beats Tesla in many ways: easy to adjust settings without having to adjust Tesla's ONE SCREEN digital touch screen which is dangerous while trying to make adjustments while staring at the screen and driving (I owned one); the interior trims: leather Reco racing seats; the glass roof doesn't overheat the cab like Tesla and the handling is tighter than the Tesla on curves, etc.
When the lease is up I'm going to buy out the residual and keep the car.
4/5 stars, Honest John. Jaguar I Pace Owner
Honest John,
HSE 4dr Hatchback AWD (electric DD)
The I-Pace is neither the least expensive nor longest range BEV SUV, but it is a marvellous sporting drive, a great touring car, and has a high quality cabin wrapped in the best looking body design in its class. The infotainment system is modern and effective, if sometimes slow to react on pre 2021 models. It is internet connected at all times, and is capable of over the air software … up-dates. Early production issues such as a spongy brake pedal and software glitches have been fixed under warranty. Having driven over 81,000 km (50,000 miles) there has been only one serious service issue, being a defective 12 volt battery which was replaced under warranty. There has been no main battery range degradation since new. In the summer, 400 km (240 miles) range is feasible if driven carefully. More realistically summer range is about 350 km (200 miles) and 250 km (150 miles) in extreme cold (-25 degrees Celsius or 13 degrees Fahrenheit). Home charging overnight looks after 90% of my "refuelling" for a nominal cost. Commercial charging has proven to be reasonably quick and available for a trip across Canada with ease. Commercial charging costs are about the same as premium gasoline for a mid sized SUV in Canada.
I am so pleased with the I-Pace that I've ordered a 2021 model featuring numerous software up-grades, my 13th new Jaguar since 1992. One thing is for sure - I will never go back to a gasoline or diesel powered vehicle.
4/5 stars, After rough start my I-Pace is great
CurtSprings,
SE 4dr Hatchback AWD (electric DD)
The I-Pace is gorgeous, fast, comfortable and efficient. After surviving the first few months of software and hardware problems the car has been nearly flawless. Jaguar released numerous software fixes and other than a few infotainment niggles the car is fine. It's fun to drive and looks amazing.
Cold temperatures reduced range from 230 to 180 miles but wasn't an issue for me because … most of my driving is in the city.
Performance is awesome and after 10 months of ownership I am still looking for excuses to drive my I-Pace.
5/5 stars, Best EV - Best Car in its Class - Love it!
Mark,
HSE 4dr Hatchback AWD (electric DD)
This vehicle is simply amazing. First, it’s stunning and sleek - lots of compliments. Second, the interior is best in class combining the right mix of hi tech gauges with Jaguar modern elegance and beautiful design with high quality metals, leather, stitching and wood. Lots of attention to detail and jewelry inside. Third, it accelerates faster, corners sharper, rides and absorbs road … wrinkles like magic and is more fun than any vehicle I’ve ever owned - including about every Porsche model. Fourth, the upgraded Meridien sound system is magnificent. Fifth, the warranty is best in class. Sixth, the software upgrade did increase range. Sixth, the brake issue mentioned isn’t an issue at all so confused as to the call-out. Buy the HSE with all the options...wish I had heads-up display. Only quibbles are laggy software, lack of electric steering wheel and slow charging options. I gave it 5 stars with the highest recommendation. Smile every time I get to drive it. Subaru coined ‘Love’ for its brand...the i-Pace evokes just the same and more.

Jaguar I-PACE vs. Audi e-tron
The e-tron is Audi's largest electric SUV. It's more conventional-looking than the sleeker I-Pace but provides better passenger and cargo room. It's also more comfortable. Yet the I-Pace offers greater power and a more entertaining driving experience. When it comes to efficiency, both have comparable but relatively short EPA-estimated driving ranges when compared to other luxury SUVs. Starting prices are similar, but the I-Pace comes with more standard features while the higher trims of the e-tron get pricey.
Jaguar I-PACE vs. Cadillac Lyriq
The all-new Lyriq is Cadillac's first electric SUV. The single-motor version has an EPA-estimated driving range of 312 miles, significantly higher than the I-Pace's 246 miles (with 20-inch wheels). The interior of the Lyriq is dominated by an impressive-looking 33-inch curved screen that controls almost everything, and the Cadillac will offer Super Cruise, a hands-free driving system that works on select highways. The larger Lyriq has a lower starting price and comes loaded with more standard features.
Jaguar I-PACE vs. Genesis GV60
The GV60 is currently Genesis' only electric SUV and one of our highest-ranking EVs. It delivers an excellent blend of performance, luxury and comfort. Like the I-Pace, the GV60 provides less driving range than most rivals, but unlike the I-Pace, it has the capability of charging its battery faster than most. The GV60 is shorter in length but has more passenger room than the I-Pace. It also sports some neat tech features such as fingerprint and facial recognition. Both GV60 models are priced lower than the I-Pace and come standard with more features.
