2026 Volvo EX30

If you think a $40,000 Volvo electric vehicle sounds pretty good, you're right. However, there are two things to keep in mind. First, the back seat is small. Like, tiny. As in, essentially uninhabitable by adults. Second, the cargo capacity behind that seat measures 12.4 cubic feet. That's less space than you'll find in a Toyota Corolla's trunk. If that doesn't matter to you, then the otherwise appealing 2026 Volvo EX30 might be the right fit. Better yet, this year's lineup expands with a more affordable single-motor model and a more rugged Cross Country version.

With the 2026 EX30, Volvo offers an EV deal no other luxury automaker can touch. However, alternatives like the Audi Q4 E-tron, Genesis GV60 and Lexus RZ offer more passenger room, cargo space and driving range than the Volvo. At the EX30's starting price, the same holds true when comparing the Volvo to models like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Nissan Leaf and Toyota bZ. That doesn't mean the EX30 is unworthy, but this small electric SUV's value equation is secondary to its Scandinavian design aesthetic and remarkable performance.

Making good on the automaker's promise to deliver a truly affordable version of the EX30, Volvo introduces a Single Motor Extended Range model with a base price of just over $40,000. This rear-wheel-drive version provides 261 miles of range and accelerates to 60 mph almost a second faster than a Volkswagen Golf GTI. At the other end of the lineup is the new EX30 Cross Country. Equipped with the Twin Motor Performance electric drive system, the Cross Country is fast. But the point of this model is its more rugged look, enhanced ground clearance and available all-terrain tires. It still can't run the Rubicon Trail, but it provides light off-roading capability that the other EX30 models don't.
