Used 1997 Isuzu Rodeo Consumer Reviews
No Regrets
I've owned this vehicle for 10 years. We never had any major problems and I run it hard. It has 134,000 miles and it's still going. The engines ticking and will cost more than it's worth at this point but I'm told it will continue to run and it won't leave me stranded (as long as I don't mind it sounding like a sewing machine, which it doesn't do all the time). It sounds fine more than it doesn't. I love my truck!
Only in a WHAT? Yeah Whatever!
My `97 Rodeo is far-and-away the best damned vehicle Ive ever owned, PERIOD! While it remains my daily driver, it also serves quite well as my one-and- only off-road abuse mobile. --- Admittedly, I have added a few lift modifications and a set of M/T tires, but even when it was in stock form it still possessed a great deal more trail prowess than any of the other vehicles that I considered buying (versus the Blazer and Cherokee in particular). In a nutshell: Unless someone were to actually GIVE me one, you can keep all of your Jeeps, Rovers, and the like; Im exceedingly pleased with the stalwart capabilities of my Rodeo.
265,000+miles and still going
I have had my 96 Rodeo for 5 years and it has 265,122 miles on it, I have had the basic problems to fix(brakes, alternator, battery, gaskets, tires) basic wear and tear and a new clutch at about 200,000 so not too bad. I love it, I would buy another one right now but never a manual, I hate not having cruise control. The basic edition is very basic, no thrills, but will always go where you need her to go.
Undecided
This car is amazing off-road with its Dana 44 and low end torque, it climbs up hills I can barely walk up with ease. However my Rodeo does have its fair share of problems, chassis is rusting, 2nd alternator (it's in a horrible location) oil leak, no a/c, windows roll up very slow, NO CUP HOLDERS ISUZU!, and now my cv joints need to be replaced - about $1300. I about had a heart attack. That's about a grand more than I have. Overall though this SUV is awesome, maybe I'm just having bad mechanical luck.
Good SUV But Requires lots of Work
I bought my Rodeo back in October of 2000 used. For the First Year I had no problems with it. The second year the speed sensor went first. Then the rear door window motor went bad. Next the alternator went bad. I fixed all of those problems, but currently the engine makes this awful ticking noise that I can't seem to figure out, and it goes through a lot of oil. I just turned 104k and replaced the oxygen sensors, all four of them. Since I do my own work and have my own diagnostic tools the cost of repair has been low. Very good in the snow, got me through a tough winter last year while my neighbor in his Explore could not get out of his drive way.
