Honda Pilot Review
First time Honda buyer, pleased with vehicle. It meets all expectations except for outside temp gauge which seems to be 10 degrees off and not pleased with passenger seat not enough adjustments to make it more comfortable. Pleased with regular gas usage. Great for economy in an SUV. Lastly dealership claims not enough knowledge provided to them about this new vehicle.
Honda Pilot 2004 EXL-RES
Love the car. Drives well. Comfortable Enterior. Not Great on Fuel Milage (No SUV is). Lots of room for family (3 kids) and friends. Needs more protection on door panels from dings/scratches (already got first dings along passenger door on trim plate only after 1 week). Gear shift should be on floor - hard to shift. Wipers turn on backwards (down instead of up). Roof rack end piece flew off on freeway. Rattle in right front dash. Quality may not be as high as on early Hondas.

Pilot performance exceeds expectations
Square back design gives max. cargo area vs the "sloping" designs that are visually appealing but severely limit cargo area in other SUV's. Door openings are very good and, unlike most SUV's, I don't bump my head when trying to get into the Pilot. Power is adequate for vehicle itself, but one might find it under-powered when pulling a 4,500# load through hills and mountains.
I love this car
I got this car beacuse im a new mother and wnted something safe. I love the way it fits everythind I need like strollers and my dogs kennel. it has power outlets for everything I could possibly need. I feel safe in it because its bigger than my car was but not to big for me to manage.
Drives Great
I love this car, it is reliable, drives quiet and smooth. I traded in a BMW X5 which handled alittle better, but drove harder and was noisier. The navigation system could use some simplification, but overall for the price this SUV is a best buy.
jeremysquest
the suv has been everything it says it is. we can see much better out all the windows than the others we test drove.the suv has a very solid feel.we made the right choice by purchasing the pilot.
Pilot Wins
Best bang for your buck. Big n roomy for a midsize and very quiet and smooth thanks to the car based not truck based chassis.
Love this SUV
After much research, we were torn between the Highlander and the Pilot. After test driving both, we chose the Pilot. It is roomy and dependable. The smooth ride can't be compared.
Mouse Trap
Great ride, pleanty of room, and comfortable. Quiet cabin for the first year, there after, cabin noise seemed to increase, especially on highways. Gas mileage is not nearly what was stated...but the fact that you do not have to change the oil as frequently is a plus. I all it "the mouse trap" because we have cought six mice in the cabin so far. The dealer claims that it happens to all cars...all models, but this is a first for me. They think that the mice are getting through the freshair duct, and other than keeping it on recirculate, there is nothing that could be done.
SO FAR SO GOOD
Would make the Honda Pilot a perfect Vehicle if the doors locked automatically when put in to drive
I love my Pilot
I love it.After driving small cars all of my life I found that the Pilot was roomier but still just as easy to drive. The interior is comfortable and the car is fun to take on trips.
Sweet!!!
As an Architect, I fell in love with the Pilot's interior...very stylish and adaptable center console. The exterior is a bit boring, but added optional running boards which helps (also a big help for mums to get in). Without kids, I haven't used the third row seating, but love the HUGE cargo space for hauling 'stuff'. The ride is tight yet smooth, if occasionally noisy... much improved from my former Explorer. Enjoyed driving in 6" snow this last weekend with the auto 4 wheel drive... and the seat warmers! Sweet!!!
the best
i test drove lots of suv but the pilot was the best.it has better gas millege then other suvs. iam a 6ft person and i could fit in the 3rd row seat.the ridding is smoth.looks good.dont listen to honda haters. try itand youll like it
Supreme SUV
Actually we bought the vehicle Jul 02. It's a fantastic SUV. We just recently returned fm San Francisco back to San Diego and averaged 22.5 miles to the gallon. One time we got 23.5! In and around town approximately 17+. It's smooth riding and a pleasure to drive. No problems so far! Honda gets you in before anything has a chance to start.
The Beauty of the Pilot
Excellent interior. No problem with the car so far. My wife loves it.
LOVE THIS THING
ITS WELL DESIGNED. THIRD ROW IS ROOMY AND COMFY. EASILY SEATS 3 ADULTS.HAS A LOT OF FEATURES LIKE HEATED REAR VIEW MIRRORS AND HEATED SEATS. EXCELLENT HANDLING ON THE ROAD AS WELL
Honda 2004 Review
XXXX
Pilot is a Good Choice
Have had our Pilot for over a year and a half now and are very happy with it. Traded in a '97 Blazer w/o 4-wheel drive, which was scary to drive in the snow with, not to mention the teeth- chattering ride and consistent steering/suspension problems. In the Pilot, we feel 100% safer now. Very few problems. Excellent Honda quality. Very sure-footed, smooth transmision, lots of power and storage space and most of all, quiet smooth ride.
We Love Our Pilot!!!!
We have really enjoyed this car over the past four months. It is great for our family of four. It is roomy with plenty of room in the back for luggage on long trips. The third row is great when we have friends or family who want to ride. The kids love the DVD. We hightly recommend this vehicle.
honda pilot ex-L/black w/ dvd
the pilot has been one of the best suv's i have ever driven. the handeling is excellent, the climate control is great and the speakers are 100% excellent. when i drive this suv, i feel like im flying thorugh air because the ride is smooth and the tourqe kicks in just right. i use to own a cr-v, but we traded it in for a pilot. i think it was worth it because the pilot felt more strongly built compared to the cr-v. you cannot really compare a 4cylinder car to a v6, but it has made a major driffernce.
Honda's a Honey
This is a heavy, powerful feeling car-- very powerful! I feel safe in it. The ride is wonderful. We looked and looked and looked. This was the best driving and the best ride. I only wish we had leather seats and my wife wanted a sun-roof. We bought too soon and didn't order what we really wanted.
Still Exceeding Expectations
We bought the Pilot to buffer our 1 year old in 5 star crash rated construction and to haul his gear around. This vehicle is everything its supposed to be - van like capacity that is unparalleled in its class and the look of an SUV on the outside. Drives wonderfully, all the confidence of the size and height visibility and yet flexible maneuvering of a car. The deal was, my wife would get to drive to work and I would drive on weekends. So far, I have to pry the keys out of her hands on the weekends!
Price and Quaiity = Honda Pilot
I put a lot of miles on this car in a short amount of time. Quality is very inpressive and reliabiity cannot be matched. I have owned three different SUVs and the Honda was the least expensive and by far the best. The only downside to the Honda Pilot is the road noise. We plan on trading for another Honda Pilot.
Happy Owner of 04 Pilot
Just picked up a new pilot and have been very pleased in the short time I've had it. I originally liked the looks of some competitors better but was sold on all the reviews. Therefore, I spruced it up with some options: Fender flares, chrome garnish, chrome wheels. I think it makes a lot of difference and am happier with it due to these items. FYI: The sticker was around $34.5K after the accessories but they dropped nearly $3K so I was out the door around $33K after T&T. From what I could tell, they made around $800. I doubt I could have done much better but who knows.
Love our Pilot!
I bought my wife a Pilot to safely carry our new child (and her!) in the Shenandoah Valley winter, in October of '03. Since then, we've had three good snow storms, and the Pilot never skipped a beat! Driving on the frozen, snowy roads was a breeze. I've taken the Pilot up to the Appalacian Trail, and the ride up the fire roads was like driving up my driveway. The AWD system works like a charm and is seamless (i.e., you don't even notice it or feel it engage). We've carried large, heavy loads thanks to the fold down 2nd row seats. Thanks to the NAV system, I no longer have to take calls at work to tell how to get where she's going! We love this vehicle!
Better than All Others!!
I go this about 6 months ago and have had nothing but fun driving it. While an 8-cylinder may have been more fun, this has everything I wanted and at a better price than all the other SUVs. Has more room, better gas mileage, more comfort and a smoother ride than even its more expensive older brother the Acura MDX. I cannot say enough, I just love this SUV... I have had Honda Accords most of my driving life and this is better than them.
Family + fun + cool style
We've researched several similar styles (highlander, explorer, etc)but we always ended up back at the Honda dealer. Honda has always been the best. We've owned 3 hondas over the past 15 years, all were reliable and had an excellent resale value when it was time for us to "upgrade" -The Pilot fit our every need! Comfort, style. excellent entertainment system for the kids. The Pilot is an awesome alternative to a boring minivan! We love it! Absolutely no complaints so far.
Best bang for the buck
Took our first long trip, which was 6 1/2 hours, and couldn't believe how comfortable the ride was. It's still a baby at 1,500 miles, but I haven't found anything to complain about. It's such a bargain for what you get!!
Paid $34,097 out the door on 12/22/03
Settled on this vehicle beause of interior volume and the fact that we did not truly need the off road capability of the 4runner.Toyotas with Navigation were priced quite a bit higher. Honda is a quality product: good fit and finish, nice dash layout and solid feel on dry pavement and on snow. We took it to Inlcine Village during the storm on 12/27. 12in. on streets.Solid handling with 3 & average baggage.Predictable & fun in the loose stuff. 4 wheel drive kicks in flawlessly and without fanfare. Perfect for the 460 mile round trip from Bay area.
Another Honda...
My wife and I bought a Accord EX sedan in January. We were struggling between the Pilot and the Accord and bought the later at invoice. We were so pleased with the Accord that we went back and traded in the Volvo wagon for the Pilot. Paid invoice again (yes, it can be done). The ride is very smooth, with a healthy amount of power (240HP) and a excellent overall driving experience.
Lovin It!
I wanted an SUV for our family NOT a mini van! With three children and another on the way we figured it would be difficult to find one with the rooom we wanted. The Pilot is perfect! So roomy for the kids the Pilot seats 8 so the kids don't have an excuse to have to "touch" each other. It's sporty looking so it's away from the mini van look. The gas mileage is great in this vehicle for an suv. No interior road noise or is at a minimum and is so smooth on the road....We also loved the fact that it had a 5 star safety rating! we love our pilot!
Honda Pilot is Fun to Own
I really like the Honda Pilot. I now can more people around. Before that, I had a Honda Civic. I could only fit 4 adults in the Civic comfortably. The Pilot is fun to drive, it has a wide turning circle. Parking the car is easy.
Awesome SUV
Extremely happy with our new 2004 Honda Pilot EX w/ Nav System. I recently drove to Napa in our Pilot and the ride was very enjoyable. I loved the 240 V6 horse power, the convenient volume adjustment buttons on the steering wheel, the improved Nav system (proved especially helpful when taking some back roads) and the heated seats. It did take me a while to get used to driving the SUV as it does feel like you are driving a truck at times. But you get over that very quickly. With the third row back seats down the extra cargo space was really helpful. Pricing was also very reasonable at $32,500 (which included destination fee and trunk mat).
My Toy
If you are looking for comfort for long trips, THIS IS YOUR vehicle. Especially if you need leg room. Comfort, style, extras available too. Plenty of room for carrying cargo.
04 Pilot worth waiting for
Features added to the 04 Pilot were well worth the wait. Adjustable second row seat, really like the heated seats and heated mirrors are a plus. Looked at Highlander & Explorer. Highlander too small inside, fuel economy looked better but required premium fuel. Explorer was not up to fit & finish or the handling & was noisy to drive. Pilot, an EX-L with DVD, was less than Highlander or Explorer even with dealer discounts. Reviews had us concerned about fuel economy. Initial results are good: combined driving 19.8 mpg; 3rd tank ski trip, 5 passengers, skis & boards on roof with 200 miles of snow, 22.9 mpg (reg fuel).Kids & us love the DVD.
Great Family Car
We recently bought a Honda Pilot. We could not be happier. My husband and I are in our early 20's and we have 2 children and we where not interested in a mini van because we did not wanna feel older. (not saying anything is wrong with a mini van) This is a very sporty yet comfortable SUV. It is very roomy. We swear by Honda Vehicles. They are very reliable and safe vehicles.
BEST IN CLASS
WE TRADED A 2001 VOLVO CROSS COUNTRY V- 70 FOR OUR PILOT. WE HAVE FOUND THE PILOT TO BE SUPERIOR IN EVERY WAY TO THE VOLVO. THE COMFORT, HANDLING AND SUPERIOR QUALITY FEATURES TO BE ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE OVER THE VOLVO. WE HAVE HAD MERCEDES IN THE PAST AND HAVE FOUND THE PILOT TO COMPARE IN MANY WAY TO THE QUALITY OF THOSE CARS. WE CAN PULL IT BEHIND OUR MOTORHOME TOO.
I love my Pilot!
The Pilot is an extremely comfortable and useful car. While the gas mileage isn't great, it's still a lot better than the average SUV, and anyone with kids should spring for the DVD Entertainment system. We've never been so comfortable and relaxed while traveling or commuting.
First
The build quality, ride and interior space are exceptional. Other than not having a sunroof it has all the creature comforts one could ask for.
Very Nice
Better interior quality than even pricey SUV's like the BMW X3, better overall quality in every department than direct competitors like the Ford Explorer. The engine isn't the most powerful or the smoothest on the market, but it is adequate for city and freeway driving.
The Ideal SUV - Finally!
After searching for the ideal SUV - one that provided the combination of value, comfort, handling, and a smart interior layout - we have found the perfect vehicle. The Pilot was clearly the best value for the features, and the drive is clearly superior to any other mid- size SUV. This is the last SUV we test drove, and we didn't leave the dealership until we bought it. The Pilot provides a secure, tight feel when driving - it felt like we were riding in a luxury car, yet we have the space we need and the 4-wheel drive capabilities as an added benefit. We've been long-time Honda owners, so we took great comfort in buying our first SUV under the Honda brand.
the best suv
the best suv i have driven so far. its roomy and drives like a car.
HAPPY WITH THE PILOT
OUR LAST 3 PRIMARY VEHICLES HAVE BEEN HONDAS..FIRST ACCORDS AND NOW THE PILOT.WE LOVE THE WAY IT HANDLES..PARKS ALMOST LIKE THE ACCORD.MY HUSBAND AND I BOTH LIKED IT FROM THE FIRST DRIVE.
Great Family Car
It is better than the American SUV's on Fuel Economy and style. My last car was a Mini Van and this is the Mini Van of the 21st century.
GREAT FAMILY VEHICLE
VERY VERSITALE AND GREAT RIDE. AS ALWAYS HONDA RELIABILITY IS GREAT AND QUALITY IS TOP NOTCH. GOT THIS EARLY IN YEAR SO DEALER HAD UPPER HAND IN PRICE HAGGLING.....
vroom vroom
I like it alot.
Pilot great all-around vehicle
We get 25 mpg/highway (70-75 mph), 19 mpg average. Plenty of power, plenty of room in front and middle row, although third row is strictly for kids. Handles well on the highway and secondary roads but it's not made for driving fast on back roads. Uses 5W/20 oil, which might be hard to find. Changing the oil filter is a breeze, a first in 32 years of driving. We have the DVD player and the kids absolutely love it. We live on a mile-long dirt road and it handles that well, goes great in the CT snow. All the luxury of the Acura MDX with more room and a lower price.
Love my Pilot
I searched for two years for a new car. After researching on the web, I was convinced Honda Pilot was the one for me. They are sharp looking and easy to handle. The dealership was great to work with. I went to three different Honda dealerships and negotiated the best price. This is the first Honda I have owned.
2004 pilot with dvd
I read many reviews of different suv's and test drove two but settled on the pilot. It seems to be the best value for the money with many features standard with the leather dvd package. The ride is very comfortable and much quieter than I expected after reading earlier reviews. I am very satisfied with this suv and do recommend it to others.
Keep on going
My polit contiunes to suprise me everytime I drive. I recently went on a long trip and drove my poilt, it was an 14hr trip and I did not feel tired after the drive. In fact I could of drove anther 8hrs and still would of felt rested. I love my SUV.
