Still new, but so far so good
I've owned the Pilot just 2 weeks. so we''ll see, but so far so good. Dealer, Coral Springs Honda in Fl was very good to work with. If I'm allowed I will post further in a few months. The Pilot seems to have great build quality, good fit and finish. I like the interior layout very well, it's sensible with lots of storage.Very quiet running, except on freeway. I haven't punched it all, as manual advises not to in first 600 miles. 17.5 mpg on first two tankfulls, 50/50 mixture of city/highway w/o a/c running.
love it
we were looking for a truck or big car to tow a pop up camper with. also to haul more than 5 in the pilot fit the bill to a t towing is fine at 3500lb and able to haul 6 kids and the dog in style.

my car
I love this car
Wins over the Highlander hands down.
My wife and I purchased the Pilot after testing several other SUVs. We were expecting twin infants and my wife did not want to be a typical "soccer mom" with a minivan. We narrowed our choices to the Toyota Highlander and the Pilot. We test drove the Toyota and came to the conclusion that it was a capable SUV but lacking in some departments. The most obvious differences being that it lacked 3rd row seating and that it had to be optioned out in order to have the same conveniences that came standard with the Pilot. The price was also instrumental in the Pilot winning us over. Comparibly equipped, the Pilot was about $2000 less.
Excellent Vehicle
Offers excellent headroom for a 6ft 4inch person. Smooth riding, good milage, shift level sometimes goes to d3 but not a real problem. Excellent in snow and ice. After driving the car for 7 months I definitely would recommend the vehicle to friends.
My third Honda is great, too!
Couldn't be a more perfect SUV for hauling kids and feeling safe and comfortable.
Not as satisfied as others
Very uncomfortable seats. Headrest that neither adjust nor fit properly. Dangerous position of parking-break pedal in reference to the left leg. Inconvenient A/C vents (do not adjust enough). Burns too much gas (average about 15 mpg).
THE PILOT WON
WE COMPARED 8 SUV'S IN THIS PRICE RANGE WITH AN EMPHASIS ON FOREIGN MADE. WE WERE GETTING RID OF A 99 TAHOE WHICH WAS A REAL DISAPPOINTMENT. WE CHOSE THE PILOT AND WHAT A GREAT DECISION. WE LOVE IT. HIGH QUALITY, A DREAM TO DRIVE, GOOD MILEAGE, AND IT'S A HONDA! WE LOVE IT.
Quality Head to Toe
This screams top quality. From head to toe you notice the spit and polish put into this vehicle. From the higher set roof for headroom and large windows all throughout for greater visiblity, to the incredible cornering and turning. This is a mini-van replacer for sure. Do yourself a favor and test drive this vehicle, you'll thank me later. :-)
03 Pilot EX leather
front passenger seat uncomfortable, needs more options not enough leg room. Center console is nice size for other SUV this size. 3rd row seat thankfully are not used everyday would be a pain and not much room. Paint job is very CHEAP chips easily!!!!
my pilot
I was very impressed with the pilot after driving a passport for 3 yrs.It was bigger and more comfortable
Best Car ever owned
My husband and I researched all the Suv's available and found that the Honda Pilot meet and exceeded all that we were looking for. We bought it new in Oct of 2002 before anyone had even heard about it and continue to love to drive it just like the day we bought it. It travels very well, its comfortable seating makes long road trips easy to handle not to mention the ease in use of all the controls for the entertainment system Etc. We tell everyone what a great SUV it is and have never had such a great time in a new car/truck like we are having with the pilot. Thanks for making a great SUV Honda.
2004 Pilot Review
New Pilot meets almost everyone of our needs. The Entertainment System is second to none and those long trips with kids aren't so long anymore. Besides the well thought out interior, I'm most impressed with the traction performance in snow. The AWD system performs better than my 4WD truck. I'm sold on the AWD system that Honda has developed. Being from Minnesota, I thought there was nothing better than 4WD. Well, Honda's AWD system is one step better.
Great Suv
Really like the Pilot. It's got all the things we needed .Rides good ,handles ever better ..Looked at all the Suv's out there and this looked best Good performence for a Suv ..And Really good gas millage ..We are geeting better then 20 ..And for a suv it's fun to drive. The interior is very nice
Honda Pilot
I traded my CRV for a new Pilot and wow what a difference. I gave up better gas mileage for much more greater comfort. I have no problems with my Pilot
WOW
Shopped around for months and settled on the Pilot based on reviews/word of mouth. Simply put, I could not ask for more in a family SUV. Not only do you feel extremely safe, but the ride is a dream for such a rugged vehicle. Handling is fantastic and the ride is smooth and quiet. DVD is a must for the kids and the heated seats are a nice touch for 2004.
THE BEST SUV !
I have owned many auto's my last was an expidetion HORRIBLE! Before that a riviera one of the most comfortable cars but this is THE BEST! BUY ONE!
Love Hondas
I did a great deal of research before buying my 2004 Honda Pilot. My first Honda was an 1989 Accord and I never owned a better more reliable vehicle. I always said when Honda made a Mid- size SUV, I'd be all over it. They made one and I bought it. I'm very happy with the car and feel secure and safe when driving alone or with my family of 5.
Perfect!!
This is the nicest SUV on the market. Perfect in every way. I paid $1900.00 under msrp. Dealers will deal on them.
2nd one is even better
Just purchased my second one. Great resale on my 2003 by the way. Superior quality. The most bang for the buck in the SUV market. Excellent AWD system.
Thumbs Up from Bob
Until I purchased the Honda Pilot, I had always been a "GM" guy. My wife is the one who wanted to purchase the Pilot. I must say it is probably the best vehicle I have ever owned. It is fun to drive and very easy to get around in traffic. I strongly recommend this vehicle to anyone who is in the market for a mid-size SUV.
Almost perfect
I just love this SUV! Drive is smoooth and quiet, lots of power, lots of room. View is great, there is a lot of windshield. Gas mileage isn't wonderful, but I knew it wouldn't be when I bought an SUV, so can't complain. Drove in a freezing rain/snow mix recently, very well behaved, good traction and braking.
Snow
It Just Snowed 18 Inches here in the North East And I did not Have my drive way cleared. No Need to. The Pilot handeled the snow with ease. Even my wife hade an easy time driving it in the snow. She back down into the yard, by mistake but no problems, she drove right out. I was amazed. I have been snow plowing for 3 years and that thing handeled the snow better than any truck I drove.
Honda Pilot Initial Impression
A quick initial review based on limited mileage: Overall todate 3350 miles, of which 2721 was a trip that netted 21.571 MPG (including I-81/I-77 VA hills). Steering is somewhat sensitive - actually twitchy if one is used to a less responsive vehicle; road noise on coarse surface roads is high (may be function of tread). Spouse finds it very comfortable.
Love it!
Just took delivery of my new 2004 Pilot EX-L w/ DVD to replace a 2003 Explorer. This vehicle is great, plus I got it for a great price (less than TMV - $400 over invoice). Very pleased so far even though I've only put about 50 miles on it.
Scott's thoughts
After 3 Nissan Pathfinders, I decided to make the switch, mainly due to my wife's Accord and its reliability. The Pilot is unequaled to any SUV I have traveled in or driven. Incredible ride, steering radius of a much small er vehicle, and simply a pleasure to drive......Great pickup too.
Best "REAL HONDA SUV" ever!!!
This is the nicest SUV on the market!! This Honda replaced my 99 Passport that was dying a fast death at 43,000 miles!! After seeing many Pilots come and go at Desert Honda, I decided that it was time to get me a Pilot!!! The first time that I brought one home to my wife, it was equipped with every, and do I mean every option that was available through Honda. From the Rear- view camera, to the back-up and side sensors, this Pilot EXL w/Navigation had it all!!! Upon showing my wife this Pilot, she was so impressed that she wanted it right then!! I ended up waiting 4 months to get mine. What a long wait that was!!!
Great Family Hauler
Just bought a Pilot to replace an Olds minivan. Light years ahead of the van in refinement and quality and holds 1 more person too! A bargain compared to Ford Explorer and Toyota Highlander and roomier than both too. Incredible ride and comfort. Interior layout is great-everything is were it should be and operates smoothly. One last thing- don't let the dealer set you up for paying full sticker by telling you how in-demand they are. They will deal on these!
honda pilot - 2004
The car is a pleaure to drive and handles heavy snow conditions very well. Quality seems second to none. Only have about 2500 miles on it. It also has great excelleration.
Reliability at its finest
Seats are very comfortable with an abundance of room. A friend who purchased an Expedition because of its size mentioned he was having second thoughts once he sat in the Pilot. It is running strong with just an oil change, making it 8 shop visits better than my all but forgotten 1999 Chevy Blazer in its first year of life.
Amazing
This suv handles like a car. I would definately buy this suv again.
Excellent
The fuel economy is probably better than most, the seat comfort is great. A solid drive.
as advertised
Expect exactly what Honda promised with this vehicle. A wide, solid, roomy and reliable car-based SUV. No flash here but lots of value. Mediocre gas mileage, good sound system and high residual value. Don't expect to take on any z-4's through the curves but will likely quash most other mid- size SUV's with it's standard features. The large "P" is however for practicality rather than passion. Enjoy!
The Best New Pilot
The reliability cannot be beaten because it is a Honda but the exterior styling is extremely bland. The interior provides a very high comfort level and it gets good mileage. The lack of an arm rest in the rear seat takes away some relaxation for passengers back there.
Wow What A Vehicle !!!
Have my 04 Pilot for 5 months, absolutely love it. Comfortable ride, handling, roomy interior, and impeccable fit and finish. Researched mid-size SUV's. Nothing comes close to The Pilot. All were more pricey after adding comparable options.
My awesome Pilot
I love my Pilot! I have told many people that all I need now is a stewardess. This drives like every Honda car I have ever had - smooth! But it is an SUV. I would encourage anyone looking for an SUV to drive the Pilot before you buy anything else!!!
No more screaming kids
I got this for my wife. We've had it for almost a month now. We're getting around 15mpg which is better then the 99 Blazer(13mpg) it replaced but not around the 18-20mpg I was really expecting but it's mostly city driving so it still has room for improvement. We got a dealer installed DVD player but I now wished I had gotten the navigation instead and got one of those audiovox 10" aftermarket DVD by myself. My 3 kids (3yr twins and 5yr old) are so fascinated by the DVD player that sometime you have to look again to make sure we didn't forget them somewhere. We love it so much that I'm seriously considering trading in my 97 Mitsu. Eclipse GS-T for one myself.
Pilot Perfect
We are surprised at the Pilots rear (third row) seating capacity. Honda redesigned the center row (2nd row) seats so that they are able to move forward and backward (that is they are no longer stationary). This enables third row passengers to have as much room as second row passengers. Overall, we love the Pilot. We also have a Honda Odyssey, but my wife enjoys the Pilot even more. She like the better handling, and stiffer ride that the Pilot provides. The back row of seats are very easy to configure. We can't wait to get our second pilot.
Love this vehicle!!!
I have had my 2004 Pilot for almost a month, and so far, I absolutely love it!! It handles very well, and is a joy to drive!!
Pilot
The Pilot is a fun suv, excellent ride and can you see, no blind spots go and test drive it.
super family suv
This suv is so great with it many comapartments 3rd row seat and comfortability. we leased a second one in Feb 2004. the only added difference which i though was great was the seatbelt reminder bell. After a near fatal accident in a jeep i never leave home without a seatbelt and with the honda pilot even if i forget it reminds me.......A+++++++ All the way. lizzytish in boca raton florida.
Drives Great
I love this car, it is reliable, drives quiet and smooth. I traded in a BMW X5 which handled alittle better, but drove harder and was noisier. The navigation system could use some simplification, but overall for the price this SUV is a best buy.
Sweet!!!
As an Architect, I fell in love with the Pilot's interior...very stylish and adaptable center console. The exterior is a bit boring, but added optional running boards which helps (also a big help for mums to get in). Without kids, I haven't used the third row seating, but love the HUGE cargo space for hauling 'stuff'. The ride is tight yet smooth, if occasionally noisy... much improved from my former Explorer. Enjoyed driving in 6" snow this last weekend with the auto 4 wheel drive... and the seat warmers! Sweet!!!
the best
i test drove lots of suv but the pilot was the best.it has better gas millege then other suvs. iam a 6ft person and i could fit in the 3rd row seat.the ridding is smoth.looks good.dont listen to honda haters. try itand youll like it
Supreme SUV
Actually we bought the vehicle Jul 02. It's a fantastic SUV. We just recently returned fm San Francisco back to San Diego and averaged 22.5 miles to the gallon. One time we got 23.5! In and around town approximately 17+. It's smooth riding and a pleasure to drive. No problems so far! Honda gets you in before anything has a chance to start.
Honda's a Honey
This is a heavy, powerful feeling car-- very powerful! I feel safe in it. The ride is wonderful. We looked and looked and looked. This was the best driving and the best ride. I only wish we had leather seats and my wife wanted a sun-roof. We bought too soon and didn't order what we really wanted.
Still Exceeding Expectations
We bought the Pilot to buffer our 1 year old in 5 star crash rated construction and to haul his gear around. This vehicle is everything its supposed to be - van like capacity that is unparalleled in its class and the look of an SUV on the outside. Drives wonderfully, all the confidence of the size and height visibility and yet flexible maneuvering of a car. The deal was, my wife would get to drive to work and I would drive on weekends. So far, I have to pry the keys out of her hands on the weekends!
Price and Quaiity = Honda Pilot
I put a lot of miles on this car in a short amount of time. Quality is very inpressive and reliabiity cannot be matched. I have owned three different SUVs and the Honda was the least expensive and by far the best. The only downside to the Honda Pilot is the road noise. We plan on trading for another Honda Pilot.
BEST IN CLASS
WE TRADED A 2001 VOLVO CROSS COUNTRY V- 70 FOR OUR PILOT. WE HAVE FOUND THE PILOT TO BE SUPERIOR IN EVERY WAY TO THE VOLVO. THE COMFORT, HANDLING AND SUPERIOR QUALITY FEATURES TO BE ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE OVER THE VOLVO. WE HAVE HAD MERCEDES IN THE PAST AND HAVE FOUND THE PILOT TO COMPARE IN MANY WAY TO THE QUALITY OF THOSE CARS. WE CAN PULL IT BEHIND OUR MOTORHOME TOO.
the best suv
the best suv i have driven so far. its roomy and drives like a car.
