Good is my Pilot
Started out researching 4 dr. trucks (Titan, Tundra) but fuel usage caused me to look for a mid-size SUV. Checked out the Toyota Highlander and 4Runner, Kia Sorrento and Honda Pilot. When your seeking comfort, style, safety and reliability with decent milage (mpg) the choice became obvious to me. Good is my Pilot. I like it alot! Fit and finish is apparent. Design and ergonomics are best in class. Controls are easy to use and the sound system rocks, although the bass is somewhat muffled if set above 3. Go for it..... Good Luck dealing. I was able to negotiate a deal for $900 under MSRP for a 2004 Silver Pilot EX.
Recommended
After much debate and testing, we decided we were no longer a Mini Van family. 4Runner was close, but too much money and we did not need the towing capacity. Really enjoy the AWD.

honda reliability
this car drives "fun". having had 3 suv's i find it to ride better then more expensive suv's . my wife is very comfortable with it and likes it better the her previous lexus 450 and buick. with honda reliability i am very happy with this car
Not for comfort
The seats are not comfortable at all! The Seat cushions and covers have two heavy gauge metal rods in the middle of the seat that run across the thigh. You can feel them by pressing your fist down on the stitch line in the middle of the seat. These metal rods cut leg circulation. The window lock feature locks out the driver from control of the windows thus making the feature nearly worthless. The game goes like this; the kids lower the window, you lock them out, then you try to raise their window but you are locked out too. Lastly, the cross bars whistle when properly installed. The Pilot is a great SUV that drops the ball on the one yard line.
A Fantastic SUV
This is proabably the best car I've ever owned. It's turning radius makes maneuvering a breeze, it's reliable, peppy, and super-well designed inside and out. Fantastic room inside. The ONLY thing I can say I miss is the automatic-on headlights for daytime driving,a minor thing. Everything else about owning the car has been a joy.
Pilot is best
This is the best suv we have ever owned. And the price is good for what you get.
The future of family transportation
After looking at everthing on the market, the Pilot was the obvious choice. It offers the best size, power, mileage, and features for the money. Also, the price has come down considerably since it's introduction - I bought mine for $2700 off of MSRP.
Great Car
Great vehicle!!! Bought this for my wife and I'm getting a little jealous because it has exceeded our expectations. Smooth ride with a smooth interior. I would recommend the tan interior if you can get it. For some reason it makes the car look a little richer. Honda Cars of McKinney Texas made us a great deal. Stop in and see Elbony, she will hook you up.
Pilot Owner
Purchased the Pilot last month, at this point it has surpassed ever our expectations. The comfort, handling, room and creature comforts are worth the price. We test drove and researched all competitors within the category and the Pilot surpassed all of them. Rear seat room has been expanded with the sliding second row benchseat. All is all, we would purchase it again.
worlds best SUV period
No need to look any further than the Pilot. Incredible ride, wonderful interior features.......exceptionally roomy. Very quiet road noise!. Better than a Hummer at half the price!
Honda Pilot
I do have one complaint. I have taken this to the dealer for excessive vibrations within the vehicle while driving and all windows are down. It is so excessive it bothers my ears. The dealer says this is normal and nothing can be done.
my new honda
I love this SUV! It has tons of room. We have 2 boys in booster seats and we have plenty of room to bring 2 of their friends in booster seats. It has a lot of power. A huge windshield so I can see a lot of the road.
Impressed
Had to wait 4 weeks to get the vehicle, but dealer experience was very positive. Loaded vehicle up with many dealer installed options, we hope that was not a mistake. Dealer's servicemen took a lot of pride in prepping vehicle.
Best mid SUV for the money
After owning a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero we wanted something less truck-like. At the end we had to decide between the Mitsubishi Endeavor and the Honda Pilot, both cars drive great, in fact the endeavor drives a little better but we ended up with the Pilot because it can seat up to 8 (endeavor seats 5) and it has Honda's high resale value, unfortunatelly our Mitsubishi Montero depreciated enormously. Up to now we are happy with the Pilot and for the money it's the best deal around in semi-luxury SUV's.
AWESOME
I bought my wife a Sage 2004 Pilot with the Leather heated package. She was nervous about driving it home because she was not used to an SUV, now I can't get her out of the drivers seat...she is in LOVE!! Great vehicle, smooth ride, comfortable interior, HUGE amount of cargo space Perfect for any family...great job Honda!
The Best
I bought my Pilot 1 year ago and I still love it.. It is fun to drive , comfortableand reliable..I would absolutely recommend it to everyone.
Happy w/Honda
After many comparisons between the Pilot, Forerunner & Highlander-- the Pilot won. Ultimately it seemed to be the most functional for my needs, in all kinds of weather. It feels stable and solid. The automatic all wheel drive was a decisive factor, along with the safety rating, and the Honda reputation of reliability.
One of the best
I have had just about every type oe style of car there is but I keep comming back to Hondas. This Pilot is probably the nicest Honda I have ever owned and one that will be with me for many years
Solid, Good Power ...
Having owned over 10 new Hondas in the last decade this is easily my favorite (prior was the initial CRV). I traded in a Durango (V8) which was getting 11 MPG for the Pilot and the trade off between V8 power and the Pilot is negligible. The Pilot easily accelerates on the highway while being fairly stingy for the MPG (we get 18- 20). We also have a Liberty Sport which is a great 4x4 but this is the SUV which balances family needs, safety, and versatility all in one vehicle. Don't expect to go offroading in this SUV but we just got hit with major snow here in New England and my Pilot cuts through drifts like butter. Many other cars were stuck in the drifts but no problem w/Pilot.
OUTSTANDING
I bought this honda pilot in Feb 2003 i drive an average of 40 miles a day to work and i live way out in the country and this SUV is the best i have ever owned. Gas mileage is not the best but SUV's arent known for gas mileage. Great SUV.
Great!!!
With a growing family, our Pilot has been a grat asset. The DVD is a must when traveling with small children.
Best Honda Vehicle Yet
I own a 1999 Honda Accord Coupe and just purchased the 2004 Pilot. The first thing I noticed i nthe Pilot was a prettier interior than most Honda's as well as better, more durable leather. The drive is great, enough power to pass as well as the smooth suspension. I rate the Honda Pilot above the Explorer and 4Runner based on value and comfort. The Pilot is very roomy and is maore spacious than the Toyota 4Runner & Sequoia as well as the Explorer. This is a keeper.
Awesome in all respects
Did our research and it paid off. You can't beat the Pilot's quality per dollar spent with any SUV on the road. 70+ percent of the vehicle is an Acura MDX at more than $10,000 less the price. Although the vehicle may not turn a lot of heads as you drive down the road, from the interior you'll know you made the right decision. I don't ever remember driving a vehicle that feels more solid nor made me feel more safe.
greatest suv
Me and my wife bought our Honda Pilot from Agron at Schaumburg Honda he showed us the great value in the pilot and he is right we have nothing but good things to say about the pilot and honda I hope they dont change anything on it
Great SUV!
I just bought my 2003 Honda Pilot used with 30,000 miles on it. Traded in my 1999 Honda Odyssey. The Pilot so far is a great SUV! Fun to drive, yet it has a luxurious feel to it too, expecially with the leather interior. So far... I love my Pilot!
Great SUV
Great SUV will buy again great service and sales staff, very nice buying experince
The best SUV I have ever owned
I researched Chevy, Ford, Toyota, Dodge and Honda to find the best SUV for our 7 person family. Our children range from 6 - 18 and the driveability, comfort, visability, handling were awesome. I drove each of them hard and the Honda Pilot out did them all. In fact 3 of my friends have since bought new Pilots as well!! Honda left no stone unturned when they made this SUV down to the dipping sauce holders!! Finally a SUV that understands and knows what mom want!!
Flawless
My wife and I have owned this vehicle since October of 2002 and we still can not find any faults. I am so impressed with Hondas products and I look forward to my next purchase. The Acura TL is by far the best looking car on the road. Maybe if I buy my wife the Acura she will give me the Pilot and I can get rid of my piece of junk 2000 Ford Expedition.
second time around
Just ordered my second Pilot this morning. Dealer is having difficulty finding color but no surprise there. This is a wonderful vehicle and, hands down, the best SUV value on the market. If someone takes the time to do the research and make comparisons, it's likely that this one is the SUV that will be chosen. In my opinion, the styling is better than the MDX, not to mention the $6,000-$7,000 difference in purchase price, regular gas vs. premium gas and a considerably better ride with more room. This vehicle is as solid as the day is long and safe as a bank vault. If you're considering it, you have made a wise decision to this point.
Love our Honda Pilot
After almost a year research purchased a Honda Pilot. Our choice was between Volvo, Honda and Nissan. It is a great SUV/Car to drive. My wife loves it, very easy to put our 16 months baby into her sit. We just had a bad experience with the dealer. Next time I rather to pay more and go somewhere else. Thanks
I love it
I like everything on my new Pilot 2004, the most i Like is the interior design, easy to drive and so soft.
My first three months
Owned for 3 months, 7600 miles. It replaced a Ford F150 ex.cab 4X4 & a Focus. I drive a lot and use it as a truck for trade shows. It fills all my needs and I enjoy the performance. I thought I would miss the roominess of the F150. This vehicle has plenty of room and feels much more nimble than the F150. A very pleasant replacement for my daily comute (Focus) too. I added factory keyless entry. I have a couple of minor lingering issues. As received, the right front sill plate(threshold) was loose. It was "repaired" and is now loose again. Dealer installed accent pin striping has chipped twice. I also have a very slight hesitation.
Almost perfect
I am having a great time with my Pilot. I can drive anywhere day or night and feel completely safe in my reliable Honda. I feel it has great personality. Like the fairy tale says: This SUV is too BIG, this SUV is too small, but the Honda Pilot is just RIGHT.
Worry free 4 wheel drive vehicle
it handles very well in snow or loose gravel. You don't even have to worry when to push the 4 wheel button
A keeper
Comfortable ride, easy to handle, excellent raod conditin response with Michellin All Terraine tires, spacious. Low center of gravity give little lean-into on curves and exit/enter ramps. Although is 4wd, you don't need a ladder to get in/out. Not affected by cross winds as much as minivans are - perhaps a much as an auto.
I'd Buy It Again
I love my Pilot!
HONDA PILOT EXW/ LEATHER AND ENTERTAINM
THIS IS THE BEST AUTO I HAVE EVER OWNED, IT IS FUN, AND RIGGED, AND FULL OF STYLE. THERE IS NO LET DOWNS, I WOULD ADVISE ANYONE WHO IS LOOKING FOR A SUV TO GET A PILOT. WE ALL LOVE THIS SUV. I HAVE HAD A GRAND JEEP CHEROKEE, AND A 4- RUNNER, AND A RAVE - 4, THIS HAS HANDS DOWN BEEN THE BEST IN ALL AREAS!!! THIS AUTO WAS PURCHASED AT HONDA OF FRANKFORT, THAY WERE GREAT, AND MADE THE DEAL SO EASY, VERY KIND, AND GOOD AT WHAT THEY ALL DO AT THIS DEALERSHIP! CINDY LABA
honda pilot
We love the way the Pilot drives- the steering, AWD, and acceleration are great. The interior is roomy and comfortable. Like the controls built into the steering wheel. Appreciate all the safety features, including third row seat headrests and shoulder restraints for both second and third rows. Enjoy the sound system.
Best SUV
We feel safe in this SUV. I was driving 75 mph on the highway and a car swerved into my lane, I had to quikly move and swerve to the left into part of the median. I felt in full control the entire time. It is very roomy. The third seat has little leg room for adults, but is great for the kids. It drives very smooth. The kids have asked me why I shut the car off at lights. I tell them it's not off, we just have a really nice truck.
Honda Pilot EX n/leather
This cars handling with the widetrack and AWD has been good in wet and dry highway conditions. The widetrack has to be accomodated when garaging, it's wider than the Honda Accord 4 Dr. SE I had. The acceleration is quick with a pleasant exhaust sound as it goes through the gears. It easily passes on hte mountain passes going to and leaving Las Vegas Valley. There is power to spare while passing at 80 mph on I-15. I like the higher sitting possition over the Accord 4 Dr. SE.
Pilot review
Fantastic SUV. My wife and I checked most of the other mid-size SUV's out before deciding the Pilot was easily the one for us. Comfort, third row of seating which comes in handy, and reliabilty all count towards a winning combination. Honda is tough to bargain with due to it's popularity but we found one "on the ground" and worked out a deal.
Great vehicle
Best riding car, oops SUV on the road.
A keeper
After a year's time I'm still very happy with my Pilot. It handles so well and has a roomy interior without being cavernous. I feel I can whip around in it -- not like driving a bus or monster SUV. Very smooth ride also. Two people who drove my Pilot bought one.
Honda Pilot
Vehicle is fun to drive, has plenty of legroom and plenty of power. I like the set up of interior - everything is easy to find and use. I like radio control and cruise controls on the steering wheel and the center console has both great support for drinks and great storage. I am concerned with both gas mileage (18.5 avg) and some hesitation on starting but with only about a 1000 miles so far, I haven't had it back to the dealer yet. Overall - great car!
The White Honda
I was not in the market for a new car since all I have purchase for many years were good used cars or trucks. I went to visit my daughter and son inlaw in VA this past summer. They were interested in a Honda 2000. They dumped me at the lot while they went out riding around. I had been looking at a Toyato Rav, so I checked out the Honda CRV. Then to my suprise I found the pilot. I did a lot of research for the next couple of months and ordered one.
Pilot
I love my Pilot. It has the quality, comfort, style and is so much fun and easy to drive. I also like the space. I found while looking the leg room was limited in other SUV's we are a tall family and sitting in the back is no problem.
Great Vehicle / Great Value
This by far is the best SUV in it's class. The second that i drove it i fell in love. It has more than enough room and power.
Honda Pilot
Typical Honda qualilty. Best riding SUV I have ever driven (previous SUVs, 1995 Jeep Grand, 1998 Mitsubishi Montero, 1998 ML320, 1999 Jeep Grand). Off-road ability weak compared to my previous but does fine for most dirt roads. Interior is a pleasure. Ride is very smooth. I find the radio controls confusing which is a first for me. Plently of interior cargo room with rear seats folded down. Second row doesn't really fold flat so 4x8 plywood seems to want to slide out the rear door. I wish the rear liftgate glass opened separately but this is common in this class. Overall a great truck and well worth the money.
Cold Starts...Not so Good.
I live in So Cal and park my Pilot in the driveway. If it's a cold night it won't always start the next morning The engine will crank but won't turn over on the first try. It will start on the second attempt. Honda service states that this is normal for a lot of new cars today...yeah right! He gave me various reasons why he thinks this is happening, though I'm pretty sure he doesn't really know. He stated that all the Pilots on his lot were tested and all had delayed starts. This is not "normal" behavior for a car with 2000 miles on it. This is my third Honda...and if Honda doesn't make this right, it will be my last.
Still new, but so far so good
I've owned the Pilot just 2 weeks. so we''ll see, but so far so good. Dealer, Coral Springs Honda in Fl was very good to work with. If I'm allowed I will post further in a few months. The Pilot seems to have great build quality, good fit and finish. I like the interior layout very well, it's sensible with lots of storage.Very quiet running, except on freeway. I haven't punched it all, as manual advises not to in first 600 miles. 17.5 mpg on first two tankfulls, 50/50 mixture of city/highway w/o a/c running.
