Compared a ton before buying. Perfect amount of room for my 6’ 3 frame. I measured noise and ride quality of 7 cars. This was third best behind G90 and BMW 7. Haven’t had a stiff or sore back since driving this for 3 weeks. I’m surpassing mpg estimates (29.5) in the 2100 mi so far. The 4 cyl feels like a V6. Only complaint is no ergo motion seat for passenger.

poor service with continued issue with car

I purchased a new 2021 black Genesis G80 in February 2021. I put a very small amount of mileage on vehicle as at the mid-November I have 5200 miles. I had an issue while driving on the highway at 65 MPH and the emergency braking came on, locked the steering wheel and started to swerve on its own. I immediately took it into the local Genesis dealer where I had purchased and, they kept it for 5 days and stated they could not replicate the issue. I took it on vacation 300 miles and it worked fine on the way to our destination, but on the way back the incident happened 2 more times. I called the dealership and they asked that I bring it in again. I did and now 3 days later, they state the can not replicate the issue and have to go to Genesis engineering to ask if more cases of this. I have also service the vehicle at 3750 miles. The offer of service when purchased was they would drive you a loaner and pick up the car from you for service. So far no one has been available to pick up the car or bring a loaner. Actually no loaner has ever been available. I am awaiting to see if it can be fixed, if not I will be applying under the lemon law as the car is unsafe for driving. All the cases I was driving roughly 65 MPH, going straight and not close to another car. Very poor overall service. I have had a few sonatas and they have all been fine and this is my second Genesis and I am very disappointed.

The technology and build quality on this car are superb. I have a 3.5L Prestige. It got 30 mpg on a 600 mile trip recently. Smart cruise and driving assist are great. This is my 3rd Genesis and by far the best. Love the Lexicon sound, adaptive suspension and the styling. 6 month update. Car is excellent in styling, performance and features. The sunroof snaps and pops over bumps and uneven pavement. This ruins the luxury car experience. Genesis needs to update their engineering g and quality to play with the Japanese and Europeans.

Decent vehicle, terrible service

Purchased a new 2022 G80 in April. The Genesis G80 is a decent vehicle but mine had a few issues. I live in the desert and the biggest problem happened when running the navigation. It caused the back of the display (facing the front windshield) to get very hot. So hot I could burn my hand by touching it. I'm guessing that was what caused the display to shut off. I had to pull off of the freeway, wait until the display cooled off then turn it back on. I wasn't able to verify this because I couldn't reach the service department of the dealership I purchased the vehicle from. The dealership was the biggest negative of owning the vehicle. It shared space and staff with Hyundai. If Genesis is going to claim to be a luxury brand, their dealerships need to catch up and treat their customers like BMW, Mercedes, and other luxury brands do. Answering phones, responding to emails, having loaner vehicles available after being reserved, and greeting customers politely would be a start. I was so fed up with the treatment by their service department that in November I traded the G80 in for an established brand that understands the needs of their customer base.

The new2021 Genesis G80 is a work of art. Styling awesome, features exceptional, ride quiet, comfortable, good handling and acceleration. While early in ownership, this car is exceptional for price. Warranty is better than competitors, service included, list goes on. This is impressive.

Don’t Buy Genesis

I purchased this car in Oct. 2021. Ran great for almost a year but then started having problems in Oct. 2022 with less than 10,000 miles. In the last 3 months it has been towed into the shop 3 times for multiple electronic and engine malfunctions. So far it has been in the shop 7 out of the last 12 weeks. Still there. They also are not able to get parts for the car in a timely manner including a battery, which supposedly is now causing all the problems after a fuel injector replacement. Genesis customer service, while polite, only offers apologies for the continued problems. They tout the great warranty. While the car has great design, comfort and style, it is very unreliable and Genesis doesn't seem to care. UPDATE: After another month in the shop with assurances my 2022 G80 was finally repaired, I only made it 40 miles from the dealership when every warning light on the dashboard began to cycle through again. Had to turn around and take back to the dealer. Service manager assured me the original problem that he attempted to fix twice before was just a battery. Apparently this car has serious electrical issues. Steer clear.

Had a test drive and fall in love with this car. Comfort oriented suspension with great handling, accurate shifting 8 speed transmission, with strong V6 engine with more than enough low end torque. My highway average gas mileage has been about 27-28 mpg on summer blend gas. It is a must test drive car for those who want a reliable luxury smooth riding sedan.

Purchased a 2023 G80 2.5T AWD Sport Prestige in Dec 2022 and so far it has not disappointed me. Beautiful car inside and out, Cavendish Red w/red interior. Car is a computer on wheels and it does take time to catch up with all of the new technology but it will spoil you for what it can do for you if you take the time to explore all it has to offer but while you are figuring things out there are some features that the car will kick in automatically on its own to heighten your driving experience such as after you drive for about an hour the drivers seat will go into a massage mode to keep you comfortable and alert. I purchased the car an hour away from home and this happened. I wondered what the heck was going on but didn't mind it at all. You can turn that feature off it you like or you can turn it on at anytime, change run time and/or soft, medium, hard message.. I'm not a techy person but it really only takes a little time and effort and you can figure out how these features work. Couple things I'd like to see changed in the future, rear seats to fold down for more storage when needed, CD player and a little more head space when ducking into the car because of the aerodynamics I sometimes bump my head. Still working that out. I spent over a year comparing this car with others and only planned on purchasing the Advanced model but for the money and amenities I'm glad I spent a little more to upgrade to the 2.5T Sport package. In my opinion no other cars could come close for the money with all this car has to offer. Very happy with my purchase so far. Time will tell about reliability. Other car manufacturers should think about packaging their cars like Genesis does and stop all of the silliness by acting like some of these features are gold. Just give people what they want. Such a pain to choose various packages for their cars just to find out you can't have this if you want that and so on. Very frustrating and time wasting, but I spent the time to built them all to be sure that I would be happy with my eventual purchase and it was worth the time spent because now I have no regrets of my choice of purchasing the G80 2.5 Sport. An important note to point out is to look at the cost of ownership across the board on various makes and models. Genesis brand has only been around since 2015/16 so they aren't included in these studies but I am hoping that they will follow the Hyundai brand reliability. scoring for cost of ownership for many of the other comparative models are very high so that is something I considered in my choice. Another thing to notice when comparing cars is that some of the other manufacturers haven't updated their cars for a while like the buttons/controls inside the vehicle. I feel like Genesis vehicles are pretty modern and sharp looking. Others need to catch up.

The car is gorgeous in style inside and out. I love the car except for the fact that the moonroof rattling noises. After 4 trips to service and countless hours lost. The rattling sounds were eliminated but not completely. I originally wanted to keep it in the family for a long time. Unfortunately I can’t now. It’s a shame because it is a very good car otherwise.

Prettiest sedan in its price class

This is an impressive car. I don't think there is a prettier sedan anywhere close to its price category. Very comfortable, good to drive, quiet. Plus you get the Genesis reliability. I've not had a chance to test it, but that is the way it should be. The only luxury feature which I miss is the ability to touch lock/unlock the rear doors (this feature is only implemented for the front doors). Carbon fibre trim is stunning, and way more attractive than the matte wood that many of its competitors feature. Having had a number of German cars, I can tell you that these guys also sometimes omit things you should be getting. I once owned a BMW 650 which, at a very high price, had no grab handles anywhere on the inside of the vehicle. So the fact that Genesis does not have every single luxury feature that you could name is not surprising. Please note that interior color scheme is a "port option." Thus, you may find combinations at dealers which are not shown on the manufacturer's website. Mine was one of those. Beautiful vanilla/beige that is not listed on the website. There are a bunch of Far East video reviews online on this model, so please don't assume that everything shown there can be had in the USA. One item that's available in South Korea which does not come to the USA is rear-seat video monitors. But of course this is a sedan and not an MPV, so this is probably not the vehicle you would get to haul a bunch of kids around. Also note that many of the luxury goodies are not available in any trim other than the 3.5T Sport AWD. And even on that one, you need to get the Prestige package in order to get a nicely kitted out model.

A Serious 2023 3.6 Prestige G80 Review

I have 12,000 on my 2023 G80 with enough miles now for a serious review of the luxury prestige car. The car is quiet at 70 mph as I do a lot of fwy driving however this car needs more sound proofing for road noise. I have had to take the car in several times because the navigation system keeps failing to be able to add addresses. The car has a great deal of fantastic tech but it is problematic regarding the navigation and the app to be able to start the car on hot days in the Palm Springs California desert where this is really needed. The graphics on the in dash navigation is really low level or Mickey Mouse. It needs to be much upgraded for such a prestigious car that cost $72,000. The ride is good in comfort mode but needs to be further smoothed out for a more comfortable ride. The engineers need to go back to the "drawing board " and further refine this car and improve the reliability of the technology. UPDATE: I have had and driven my prestige 2023 G80 now to 39,000 miles so I have a lot of driving experience with this car. The good is the technology is amazing and it has a beautiful design inside and outside but unfortunately not only is this car not ready for prime time but I would not purchase this model again for three important reasons. The car has a too stiff harsh ride even in its most comfortable comfort mode setting. If you are on a very smooth road it is okay. As soon as the road surface is bumpy too much vibration is transmitted into the cabin. Second I have their best leather seats with Napa leather yet. The front driver and back seats are so hard my back becomes painful after sitting in this car on drives of only 1 hour. The seat cushions are as thin as airline seats in economy class. Seat padding far too thin and just plain hard. Lastly the navigation graphics are so "Mickey Mouse " as to almost be childish. Genesis really needs to improve these three above areas below I would consider purchasing another G80.

I absolutely love my G80. I have the 3.5 L twin turbo model and it is a big luxurious sedan but it moves like a sports car. It handles the curves, amazing the all-wheel-drive along with the rear tires turning 4° make this beast move down the road at unbelievably high rate of speed. Was this and a 735 from BMW and a 560 from Mercedes this car was less money came with more features and a much better warranty with highly recommend this vehicle.

The 3.5L V6 G80 has exceeded my expectations in just about every area. I actually find myself volunteering for errand running just to drive the car more. It’s fast, comfortable, and has countless luxury features. The sound system is audiophile quality, and the value is excellent compared to similarly equipped luxury cars. Just a great car:)

... now down to selling only several thousand G80's a year... you'd think they would be pricing them to be putting more of 'em on the streets ... so adding to pricing what amounts to 10% in 'Dealer-Fees' for items a majority of prospective buyers probably wouldn't-want-need makes little sense ... answer could be the company really just has little interest in increasing sales for this model... unfortunate as it really is a great product

The 2021 Genesis G80 has a “Proprietary” battery that can only be purchased via a Genesis dealer. The cost is about double that of a standard replacement auto battery. In addition, the battery is on back order. After two weeks, the dealer cannot tell us when they will have the battery. 70K car disabled because Genesis used a proprietary battery and cannot provide a replacement.

Terrible hesitation on accelerating

Floridian, 07/27/2022

In my opinion, this is an outright dangerous car to drive due to it having a terrible "lag/hesitation" when you need to quickly accelerate. The first time this happened I was doing a rolling stop at a red light and needed to blend into traffic. When I pressed the gas pedal NOTHING happened, it was as if the car had totally shut off. I pushed the pedal to the floor, and it still just idled along with cars quickly bearing down on me from behind. Out of desperation I pumped the pedal and it finally started to accelerate but all this took too long with cars nearly rear ending me. I was sure something was wrong so I called the nearest Genesis dealership and was told it would be TWO MONTHS before they could get me in ! I had to travel outside my area to another Genesis dealer who checked the car out and drove it and told me this slow accelerating issue is NORMAL, there is NOTHING wrong with it !!! They put it in sport mode and told me that might help. But after driving it for another couple of weeks it still bogs down when you need to quickly accelerate. I had to completely change the way I drive this car and take into account this poor acceleration feature to avoid accidents. This is what you get for $ 60,000 ??? Additionally, I felt the seat was very hard and uncomfortable. The car rode rough and stiff, maybe by design. The technology was not very intuitive, I had to have the dealership tech expert explain how to use things. It comes with two owner's manuals an inch thick each, enjoy plowing through those. I did NOT feel safe driving this car. There is NO WAY Genesis is even close to other luxury car makers. This model has a problem and I felt abandoned by Genesis and the dealer. The only thing I liked was it has very nice styling.

FANTASTIC CAR, GREAT MID-SIZED LUXURY AUTOMOBILE

2023, 3.5 Sport Prestige. We waited until December 2023 to purchase and got a great deal on a dealer-loaner with only 1,200 miles on it. Pristine-perfect condition. We had looked at many other similarly priced cars, but in my research, I had seen a lot of buzz on the G90, we just could not, & did not want to afford its price even though I think it was 100% worth every penny. We test drove the G80 Sport Prestige after visiting many other dealerships and test-driving many other car manufacturers models. We both decided to purchase that very car on the spot, and it is now Mid-May 2024, and we are still "loving it!" We have driven in city, highway and taken a 600 mile (RT) to visit a family member and at the destination we were commenting we could drive another 300 miles that day and feel comfortable and rested again at the destination. (Once you adjust the seat massage correctly to your comfort level it is fantastic.) The main thing to keep in mind with this particular model (or the G90) is to take the time to adjust all of the vehicle parameters (Technology) to your body and your preferences before driving off into the sunset. This will take approximately 30 minutes per driver (Driver 1 and 2) Drive modes: "Comfort" mode which is default is absolutely comfortable soaking up road bumps and dips and there are even sensors to minimize minor potholes or rough areas of the road before the tires reach them, a very comfy luxury car ride, then you have at the other extreme "Sport Plus" mode is more than quite adequate to give an adrenaline rush, it is very responsive, tight handling with good cornering control. (Just don't use its full potential with your wife in the car!) I owned a serious BMW "5" series sedan; it was as you would expect from BMW but at a BMW price. The handling in serious sport driving was superior, but not for the many extra $$$ to own it. The G80 3.5T Sport Prestige is a perfect blend between luxury & sport that will not disappoint. The G80 also has plenty of "extra's" that the "5" series did not have, you had to go to the "7" series to get those. I am a very content old SCCA driver, racer and enthusiast that is over the top with this purchase. We purchased it originally just to have a solid full-size car to travel north America in during our retirement, yep, we found it! Atlanta to Newfoundland here we come!

I bought a new G-80 about 2 weeks ago. Traded in a BMW 740-iL. So far, this Genesis is fantastic. Acceleration is well above-average for a turbo V-6 and cornering is awesome (both in Comfort mode -- sport mode is even better). Fit and finish great also. Concierge service included for first 3 years with complimentary loaner -- they drop off and pick up.

My only complaint are the gauges. In these times and price range, the advanced package MUST have fully digital gauges. UPDATE: only 2 issues: for this price point the advanced package MUST come with a full digital valuable. And the steering wheel is old fashioned looking. Otherwise very striking car.

Great car. Great look Carvana delivered w broken cup holder and bondo stuck to the rubber window gasket Car is great. Carvana would not be my first choice again. It’s under warranty but a $100 copay . They suck Hopefully the Genesis dealer will fix it free
