Overview
The Genesis G70 was originally pitched as a proper sport sedan rival to the BMW 3 Series when it debuted for the 2019 model year. It hasn't quite ever been able to usurp the 3 Series from its perch, but the car's big list of luxury features for a relatively bargain price has certainly helped gloss over any concerns otherwise. The 2024 G70 is still appealing, especially considering the updates it gets this year. Genesis has added a larger, more powerful turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a performance braking system as standard equipment, made minor enhancements to the interior and technology, and simplified the ordering process.
Cost to DriveCost to drive estimates for the 2024 Genesis G70 2.5T 4dr Sedan (2.5L 4cyl Turbo 8A) and comparison vehicles are based on 15,000 miles per year (with a mix of 55% city and 45% highway driving) and energy estimates of $3.90 per gallon for premium unleaded in Virginia.
The most affordable versions of the Genesis G70 get even better in 2024 thanks to a new standard engine. A turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder replaces last year's smaller 2.0-liter turbo-four. It makes a healthy 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque, increases of 48 horsepower and 51 lb-ft over the outgoing powerplant. As was true before, it pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear- or all-wheel drive. Fuel economy drops slightly with the new engine — and this was never a standout quality of the car to begin with — but overall we think the boost in power is worth it. The G70's optional turbocharged V6 is unchanged.
Competitors to consider
Within its competitive segment, the Genesis G70 is smaller than the class leaders. Compromises in rear seat room and cargo space mean it works best as an alternative to an Alfa Romeo Giulia, Cadillac CT4 or Lexus IS. Other models typically offer more passenger space, cargo volume or both. If you'd like to learn more, be sure to read our Expert Rating of the 2024 Genesis G70 below.

The 2024 Genesis G70 has matured into one of the more elegant-looking small luxury sedans. It delivers excellent value, a potent V6 engine, a comfortable interior, and a good set of standard advanced driver aids. However, a tight back seat, a tiny trunk and subpar fuel economy keep the G70 from attaining true greatness.
How does the G70 drive? The G70 has a potent V6 and good steering feel, and it's easy to drive. The turbocharged V6 develops 365 horsepower, making it one of the quickest in class, and it sprints to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds. With a healthy 376 lb-ft of torque on tap, the G70 doesn't have to do much downshifting, either. But we did find the transmission a little reluctant to downshift when we eventually called for it. The new 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder base engine is one of the most powerful base engines in the class and a big improvement over the old 2.0-liter. It feels much quicker and closer in performance to the V6 and makes the base G70 more tempting.
There's potential for the G70 to be a fun car to drive, but we found its handling to be a bit imprecise when driving around corners. Also, the G70's all-season tires lack the grip needed to really take advantage of the car's power. Emergency braking performance is also underwhelming.
Comfort
7.5/10
How comfortable is the G70? The seats deliver the all-day comfort we expect from Genesis, and the suspension does a nice job of absorbing sharp bumps. However, the G70 has a noisier cabin than other luxury competitors. It's a very quiet cruiser on smooth roads, but road noise on rough pavement can be intrusive. The climate control system has knobs for adjusting temperature, but controls for the fan speed and heated seats are annoyingly routed through the touchscreen rather than having their own quick-to-use buttons.
Interior
7.5/10
How’s the interior? The G70 has a well-crafted interior with pleasant materials and touchpoints, and it's easy to find a comfortable driving position thanks to a generous range of adjustments. It's logically laid out, and the central touchscreen infotainment interface has a sharp screen that's easy to see and responsive to inputs.
The G70 is not the easiest car to get into or out of. The back seat is tight, with a stingy amount of space for toes under the front seats. Its sleek roof profile may not impart an open feel, but outward visibility remains pretty decent by luxury sedan standards.

Save as much as $5,227 with Edmunds Click on the trim you’re interested in to see what Edmunds suggests you should pay to get a good deal. Savings vary by trim; $5,227 refers to estimated savings off of MSRP for the 3.3T Sport Advanced trim.
How’s the tech? If having the latest luxury tech is a priority, the G70 will mostly satisfy. It's packed with advanced driver aids, all of which work decently well. Apple and Android smartphone integration is standard and simple to use but still requires a cable. Some rivals offer wireless connectivity.
Less impressive is the standard audio system, which won't wow anybody. Onboard navigation is nice to have but doesn't break any new ground. The voice controls work for navigation and radio functions but do not control vehicle functions.
Storage
7/10
How’s the storage? The G70 isn't particularly practical for a sedan, although the cabin offers a decent number of spots to store and organize small items. The trunk has a generous opening, but at 10.5 cubic feet, it's small even for the class. Larger suitcases could be a very tight fit, but if you need additional room and don't have extra rear passengers, you can always fold down the rear seats.
Although car seat anchors are pretty accessible, bulkier car seats will likely impinge on front seat space due to the limited room in the rear.

Fuel Economy
6.5/10
How’s the fuel economy? The Genesis G70 lags most of the class with just 20 mpg combined for the turbo V6-powered AWD model. There are a couple sporty sedans such as the Acura TLX Type S and Mercedes-Benz AMG C 43 that are close, at 21 and 22 mpg combined, respectively, but many are far more efficient. Even the base four-cylinder G70 maxes out at 25 mpg combined, which is also lower than most. On our 115-mile evaluation route, the G70 returned 23.7 mpg, which is at least a promising sign that real-world fuel consumption shouldn't be far off the EPA estimates.
Value
8/10
Is the G70 a good value? Genesis gives you a solid list of standard features at an enticing starting point that undercuts the luxury competition by a couple of thousand dollars. The exterior and interior feel solidly and luxuriously built, with nice materials adorning the inside trim panels. The large infotainment screen ties the whole interior together nicely. Standard and powertrain warranties are best-in-class.
Wildcard
8/10
The G70 was once a lively, engaging luxury sport sedan but it now feels a little sloppy compared to its closest competition. Acceleration is still potent, but straight-line speed alone is no longer enough to create a good car. That said, the G70's elegant new design, along with better interior materials and a larger infotainment screen, makes an excellent impression. There's little debate that the G70 now at least looks like a top player in the segment.
Which G70 does Edmunds recommend?
Get the G70 2.5T for 2024. Its more powerful 300-hp engine this year is strong enough that you won't notice much of a difference between it and the more powerful G70 3.3T and its turbo V6. You can pocket the money you're saving or spend it on nicer paint, all-wheel drive, and the loaded-up Sport Prestige trim and still have enough left over for a road trip in your new ride.
I drove an Audi S5, BMW m340i and hesitantly - I decided to go with the G70. Having had it for a week now, I am in awe of everything from the build quality to performance. What started as a decision solely based on cost savings has turned into an affection for the brand. And having switched from a Tesla model 3, I am blown away by this vehicle’s performance. Its an absolute machine. … Downfalls include the partly digital cluster, though you get used to it quickly. I think they could clean up the interior by getting rid of most of the chrome, but we’re splitting hairs at this point. I love the G70 and arguably will be a fan for life. Not to make sure they keep their promise on the service side and hopefully, this amazing warranty holds true too. Time will tell but I’m in love.

2022 Genesis G70 3.3T 4dr Sedan (3.3L 6cyl Turbo 8A)
I took a test drive on the highway and then around a few city turns, then looked again at the features on the window sticker and the drive-out price and asked my sales person where to sign so I could drive it home asap. The G70 got my attention back in 2020 but at the time we opted for the Accord 2.0, which is no slouch, because of price and practicality as the grocery getter. This time, … for our 2nd car, the G70 with advanced package and RWD sat in the sweet spot. The exterior looks even better after the refresh as does the dash. This machine is beautiful in and out. I also had to make sure my golf bag fit in the smallish trunk and it did. I drove MB and Audi between '06 and '20 and while I loved them both, the price/performance ratio on this G70 can't be beat.
Riding in a friend's GV80 with Highway Driving Assist immediately convinced me to look at Genesis. I seriously do not like long drives and traffic so thought I'd replace an optioned out 2018 392 Challenger with something that could help make long trips and lines of traffic bearable. My initial concern was that I'd miss the 392's acceleration so I test drove both a 3.3T and a 2.0T, but … to be honest, I didn't feel there was a huge "street legal" difference in performance between those two Genesis engines. In full disclosure, I also own an 1100 rwhp Camaro, so my yardstick pushed the 2.0T and 3.3T's performance well to the left of not simply the 392, but definitely that of the Camaro. Public streets being what they are, especially with rush hour traffic, I couldn't justify the extra $9k for a 3.3T AWD. Give me that Highway Driving Assist to deal with long trips, an AWD powertrain to deal with poor weather conditions, and the best factory sound system. Those 3 items can be found with the smaller engine, but I will say, the Lexicon sound system is not as good as the Harmon Kardon's found in any of the BMW/Dodge/Mercedes/RAM vehicles. And that's a shame, so one star off. I will say, in support of the 4 stars, that every day I drive the G70, I like it more and more. I was briefly considering a WRX, but the Genesis definitely feels more substantial, better built, comes with the best tech this side of Mercedes, and has more efficient powertrain. I do wish the 2.0T models had some of the features the 3.3T has, like HUD, buttonless trunk opener, digital key and...well, that's about it, and those aren't deal breakers for a car that does 12 miles (30 minutes) per day. This is a great 3 series type car, and that doesn't even consider the price point, so yes, great car!

2022 Genesis G70 3.3T 4dr Sedan (3.3L 6cyl Turbo 8A)
I thought my BMW 330is was quick off the line and zippy enough to get me into trouble - but after test-driving the 2022 3.3L Genesis G70 Sport Prestige, I KNEW this car was fast enough to get me into trouble! Stunning sport-mode acceleration and a grip on the road as good or better than its sports sedan contemporaries made it easy to trade the Beemer in for this car. Really cool looking … - especially in Havana Red. My BMW was good looking, but it never turned any heads. The G70, however, gets looks and questions - the most common: "What IS this?" G70 Sport Prestige PROS: Rocket ship acceleration; superb sports sedan handling but cushy in selectable comfort-mode; comfortable front seats; lots of cool technology; gets lots of attention (careful, that includes from the cops); massive Brembo brakes; smart cruise control with decent auto-pilot steering (not quite as good as Tesla); excellent climate control. CONS: Mediocre fuel economy; small fuel tank (short range); tight back seat; lacks some advanced features like automatic parking/unparking; driver profiles not stored in key fob like my BMW (a pain with a car shared with my short wife); someone's idea of "stereo" is a single main audio speaker in the dash. Excellent sound quality, but everything balanced to the center-front instead of left-to-right (can be "sort-of" adjusted with fader control to overcome this); trunk space is fair. That said, the G70 offers great bang-for-the buck high-end luxury and performance. Compared with BMW, MBZ, Acura, Infinity and Audi, I have no regrets spending my money on the Genesis.
We have a limited number of reviews for the 2024 Genesis G70, so we've included reviews for other years of the G70 since its last redesign.
The G70 is Genesis' smallest sedan, and when it came out in 2019 it was clear from the beginning that the South Korean automaker was ready to take the fight to the big dogs from Germany. The G70 has remained a strong contender in the class, but recent updates and redesigns from the competition mean this underdog needs a refresh to stand a fighting chance. To that end, for 2024, Genesis is giving the G70 a new base engine with more power, enhancing the interior and introducing new features.
What's under the G70's hood?
The big news for 2024 is the G70's new base turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder, which replaces the turbo 2.0-liter that graced the 2019-2023 model. Genesis says the new 2.5T G70 will produce 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque, an increase of 48 hp and 51 lb-ft from last year. In addition to more grunt under the hood, all G70s will also now come with Brembo performance brakes. Of course, you can still opt to upgrade to the turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 with 365 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque. We expect that both powertrains will be available in either rear- or all-wheel drive.
How's the G70's interior?
Powertrain aside, the bulk of the G70's changes are focused in the cabin. While the automaker hasn't released images yet, Genesis says that the G70's interior will have a new frameless rearview mirror and a touch climate display, possibly similar to the display we've seen in newer Genesis models. There are also changes to the interior trim and key fob, but at this time, we don't know what these entail. Finally, two new color combinations are available for the interior: a two-tone black/gray and black/beige.
The G70's interior is already handsome and well laid-out, and we hope that the modifications that Genesis has made to the 2024 model don't negatively affect our impressions.
Edmunds says
The performance updates for 2024 have the potential to transform even the base G70 into a sport sedan. We're hopeful that other changes — including the new climate touch display — haven't negatively impacted the current model's everyday functionality.
The G70 is Genesis' smallest sedan, and when it came out in 2019 it became very clear that the South Korean automaker was ready to take the fight to the big dogs from Germany. This remains true, but as time has gone on the G70's flaws have become more apparent. It's a little too small and despite being feature-rich, its interior now feels its age.
That is reportedly going to change for 2024. Some outlets have reported that the G70 is slated to get yet another refresh, and this time the upgrades are focused on the inside. While we remain a little skeptical (the G70 did just receive a face-lift in 2022), there are a few things you can expect if yet another refresh does happen. We'd expect the looks to get a very light massaging, but the interior to get a new layout and new features — the interior went largely unchanged for the previous car's update, and it will likely be the focus of the next one.
With a refresh, the powertrains will likely carry over unchanged, but both the four-cylinder and V6 are potent options. Hopefully the G70's second face-lift, if it does come for 2024, gives it a little something special to help lift it over the competition from BMW, Mercedes and Audi.
