After buying new and sixteen years of ownership this V6 Escape is still my wife's daily driver, and our family of four has taken it on many multi-day vacation trips. It has been as comfortable and reliable as any Japanese sedan we have owned over the years, including our son's Accord. Having said that we keep the vehicle clean and have closely followed the maintenance schedule in the owner's manual, and use the same mechanic(s) for everything possible. Along the way there have been some "unscheduled maintenance" needs in replacing parts such as a front end linkage bit, a motor mount, etc - but part of the importance of regular maintenance and careful checks is so that items can be caught before they become a big deal. On the downside the V6 does not get great mileage, and we knew that before getting the vehicle. However knowing that it is a Mazda engine we were banking on a long life and obviously so far we are very pleased.

I bought this as a commuter, plus I wanted to have some cargo capacity if needed. These 5-speed Escapes are rare - They're your best choice in one of these if you're MPG conscious and like the Escape design as I do. Takes REGULAR gas. I've run 1 tank of gas through it and it's demonstrated close to 27 MPG, freeway - I suspect it could improve with a little maintenance attention to some engine components. Cloth seats durable (no rips), but I don't think Ford Scotchguarded the fabric, so I'm managing my expectations on the result of a serious cleaning. Very strong engine, even with close to 160K on the clock - Duratec 2.3's are bulletproof and I expect another 100K miles of production output on mine with normal, attentive maintenance. Shifting linkage is a bit sloppy, could be wear and tear - but not an issue for the purposes of my application. I have a 2006 Ranger also, same base engine/chassis. Have had other Fords, so I guess I'm a Ford Man. Summary on this Escape: It's a darn good value used and will hold up well. Honestly, I'm excited to have bought it and enjoy driving it. Hope this helps you.

The only reason I bought the Escape is because the Escape is one of the best selling mid-sized SUV's on the market. There are many differnt models to choose from, including an AWD hybrid model which is amazing if you ask me. If I am correct, Ford holds the title of introducing the first AWD hybrid model, and they have done a good job of upholding that title. The Escape is perfect for throwing all kinds of stuff into it from 5 average adults, to ski and snowboards on the roof racks, and a few kids inside. The only bad thing I can say about this SUV is the build quality. The parts are cheaply made and break quickly over time. Ford needs to fix this, or the Escape will die off as we know it.

At 88k miles I love my Sonic Blu Escape. It has been everything I had hoped. Whether going confidently through snowy Pennsylvania winters, or carrying a canoe to a lake, or toting our college student's stuff, or hauling yard/tree trimmings, it has done it all comfortably.

Great first car

Great car. It does have a small gas tank. However, it is engaging compared to most new SUVs. It is dependable and has ample passing power. A few detriments are an unrefined transmission, the brake pedal has noticeable take up before it will noticeably slow down, and the doors feel cheap when closed. It does stop fairly well and all around is a good car. For the price it is definitely recommended. The chassis could be rigid and the dampers allow unwanted movements during rough roads. The final thing is the steering wheel vibrates while driving fast.
