ford escape hybrid, "Awesome Vehicle"
I had to take an alternate way because of the "dollar ridge fire" in Utah. While driving home I pulled into a gas station with 124 miles to go and 27 to empty. The gas station was closed and hadn't been open for business in years, (closed permanently). I drove the 124 miles strategically using the battery and very little gas. I made it!! I love this car!

Ford Escape Hybrid: Great until the HCU died
Good fuel economy until temp dropped below 32 deg F; then MPG dropped from 33 to as low as 24. Good for hauling tools and equipment for remodeling projects. Leather seats lasted 11 years with only one tear. At 11 years with 80,000 miles, the car had a resale value of about $3600. Then the HCU went out, leaving the car with approx 10% of its braking power, making it unsafe to drive. The dealership quoted $7500 for the repair, an independent shop quotes $6500, which led to a new car purchase. Not a Ford. I entered a complaint with the NHTSA, hoping that a recall will be ordered.

Escape Diebrid not Hybrid
This vehicle has the potential to die on you while driving or parked. There are problems with the parts below that you should be aware of before purchasing. Repair is very expensive. FORD nor your dealership will inform you of known potential problems. For FORD 05-07 owners, these parts are known to fail so get them checked out before the BtoB warranty expires. 1. MOTOR cooling system water pump pn# (5m6z8c419a) TSB (Technical Service Bulletin ) # 07-25-12. 2. The Blend air door actuator applications pn# (8L8Z19E616E), will also probably need to be replaced.
No Way in Snow States
In cold weather I was getting down to 19-21 in city driving, 26 on highway. Never got over 24 in city, and I drove this by the textbook. Took off slowly, to stay in electric mode, people honked a lot at me on slow take off from lights. I chose fwd to save fuel, slipped all the time in the least amount of snow, got stuck twice in snow when other fwd cars drove by me. Then I read it has no traction control! The heavy battery in back throws off the weight balance advantage of fwd. Very frustrating experience! You in cold weather states need to beware! I traded to escape 4 cyl fwd, and similar mileage in cold temps and no slippage in snow, maybe ok in warm states. Not worth the extra $ for hybrid.
Should have bought the Highlander
I read all the reviews, drove most vehicles in this SUV/truck market and bought the escape because of the mileage and tales of better performance. I'm not getting it, only 25 mpg. I'm here to tell you buy a Toyota Highlander IF: you live out west and travel faster then 60, you want more cargo space and a better interior with more convience or you have anything to tow or haul. The 4 cyl gas engine and weak electric just don't cut it, it has to run at too high RPM's above 60 mph to deliver the mileage; in Montana the limit is 75! Last trip at that speed I got 22 mpg! Very disappointed! Everything else I read about it both good & bad has been listed by others; especially plug it in.
