Other minivans offer hybrid powertrains, but the 2025 Chrysler Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid still stands out as the only vehicle in this class to offer pure electric range up front. That means if you charge up the battery often, you'll get fuel savings far beyond what the other people movers can offer. Pros
- Plug-in hybrid powertrain provides lots of all-electric range and high fuel economy
- Available tax credits can boost the van's value appeal
- Upscale look of the interior
- Excellent all-around visibility
Cons
- Lacks the Stow 'n Go seating feature of the regular Pacifica
- Gas engine can get noisy once it's running
What's new
- New Select trim added to the lineup
- No other major changes for 2025
- Part of the first Pacifica generation introduced for 2017
Overview
Chrysler is down to a minivan-only lineup, and the 2025 Pacifica soldiers on as its centerpiece. The Pacifica was introduced in 2017 and is due for a significant update, but that will have to wait for another year as 2025 brings only minor changes, including the introduction of a Select trim that serves as the new base trim. It's the only version of the Pacifica to offer a second-row bench that expands seating capacity to eight. Signature features such as the Stow 'n Go rear seats and an available plug-in hybrid powertrain still help make the aging Pacifica a solid choice for a minivan.

Edmunds spotlight: Stow 'n Go goodness
Even though it's getting up there in age, the current Pacifica remains competitive and offers one killer feature that other minivans don't match. That would be its Stow 'n Go captain's chairs in the second row. While all minivans offer third rows that fold into the cargo area, only the Chrysler offers that fold-flat capability for its second-row seats so you won't be heaving the seats out and stashing them in the garage when you need extra cargo space. Note that these seats are only available on the gas versions of the Pacifica; in the plug-in hybrid, the battery pack gets in the way.
Competitors to consider
The Chrysler Pacifica does have some fresher competitors to consider. The hybrid-only Toyota Sienna also offers all-wheel drive and got a tech infusion for 2025, while the Kia Carnival also added a hybrid powertrain of its own and has a nicely styled cabin. Rounding out the segment is the Honda Odyssey, another minivan due for a refresh soon. If you're interested in something even more fuel-efficient, the Chrysler Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid provides about 32 miles of electric-only driving. Take a look at our test team's Expert Rating below to get a better idea of how the Pacifica compares to its rivals.

7/10
How does the Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid drive? As a plug-in hybrid, this Pacifica is the only minivan with the ability to run purely on electric propulsion. When in EV mode, instant torque moves the van sharply and smoothly, though a heavy foot can quickly deplete the battery of its potential range.
When operating in hybrid mode, running on both gas and electricity, the transmission response can get out of step with your inputs if you ask for a lot at once. It likes moderate acceleration but will oblige if you need a little midrange punch. Ultimately, if you plug in often you'll enjoy it more.
Braking is progressive and predictable. The Pacifica, though, is not as nimble as the Honda Odyssey or the Toyota Sienna, and the turning radius feels noticeably larger.

Comfort
8/10
How comfortable is the Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid? The front seat padding is firm, but ultimately we found the seats comfortable for long drives. The available heating and cooling for the front seats work great too. The Hybrid's second-row seats provide superior comfort and legroom compared to the Stow 'n Go seats that come in the standard Pacifica. Third-row comfort is acceptable.
The ride is compliant and generally smooth across varying road surfaces. There is body lean when the road starts to twist, but in this respect it's pretty comparable to other modern minivans. The Pacifica Hybrid is pretty quiet, too, as long as you're in EV mode. The V6 engine is surprisingly noisy once it fires up.

Interior
9/10
How’s the interior? The controls in the Pacifica are easy to use. The knobs for the radio and climate control are well placed and within easy reach of the driver. Chrysler's additional radio volume and tuning controls on the back of the steering wheel make a lot of sense to us too.
It's easy to step in and out of the Pacifica Hybrid thanks to its low doorsills, large door openings, tall roofline and well-positioned seats. There's a lot of adjustable range from the driver's seat and steering wheel. Legroom is abundant up front, and large windows all around provide great visibility and limit blind spots. The optional 360-degree camera system makes maneuvering in tight spots even easier.
The second and third rows are also comfortable and provide adequate legroom. Second-row captain's chairs slide and recline far enough to adjust to the needs of their occupants. Even adults should be able to tolerate the third row for shorter drives.

Technology
7.5/10
How’s the tech? The Pacifica Hybrid's Uconnect infotainment system is showing its age; it feels a step behind the newer systems from other automakers, and the native navigation maps disappoint. Thankfully, it offers Bluetooth and wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay so you have alternatives. Multiple USB ports (type A and C) are also on hand for your devices. Available mobile web connections include Alexa pairing and the Uconnect app that allows you to control some van functions via your phone. An optional seatback video system can stream media to the van as well.
Advanced driver aids are plentiful and standard, including forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise (it will stop and go without additional driver input) and lane keeping assistance, to name a few. The optional 360-degree camera is a worthy add-on.

Storage
8.5/10
How’s the storage? As 18th-century English poet and minivan connoisseur Alexander Pope once said, "To utility is minivan." Erm, or something like that. The Pacifica PHEV, like its peers, has a deep well for storage behind the third-row seat. The third row manually folds into the floor when not used. The second-row seats slide forward or can be removed completely, requiring external storage, for a max cargo space of 140.5 cubic feet. There are also pockets, cupholders and cubbies for every cherished keepsake your kids find on the ground.
Speaking of junior humans, car seat accommodation in the Pacifica Hybrid is great. The LATCH anchors are easily accessed. Sliding second-row chairs allow extra space for rear-facing child seats and parent access. And buckles are kid-friendly for those in boosters.

Fuel Economy
10/10
How economical is the Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid? The EPA estimates the Chrysler Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid can drive 32 miles using all-electric power. After that, the gas V6 switches on and you can expect to get 30 mpg in combined city/highway driving. Fully charging a depleted battery takes about two hours using a Level 2-style 220-volt power source.
The Pacifica Hybrid is at its best when you maximize the electric battery. Take our experience on the 115-mile Edmunds evaluation route, for example. We returned a whopping 44.1 mpg on our route. But there is a caveat. That included a full battery charge. But even if you ignore the electric range, the Pacifica still returned a remarkable 31.9 mpg as a traditional hybrid.

Value
8/10
Is the Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid a good value? The Pacifica Hybrid is a strong value. It costs more to start than the regular Pacifica, but potential federal and state tax credits or incentives can effectively blunt that initial hit and make the Pacifica Hybrid a rather intriguing value.
On the downside, the van's interior isn't quite as nice in person as it looks in photos. Overall fit and finish wasn't especially impressive, and our test van had some electrical gremlins. But Chrysler does offer a lengthy warranty on hybrid components and the battery, as well as five years of roadside assistance.

Wildcard
7.5/10
It's one thing to say the Pacifica looks attractive among minivans. But we think Chrysler gave it just enough style to rank it above some SUVs out there. It's not particularly fun to drive, but there is satisfaction to be derived from driving a big people mover like this and not using any gasoline.
Which Pacifica does Edmunds recommend?
We'd recommend the Limited trim for the standard gas-only Pacifica. That midtier variant gets you a number of extra features for a modest increase in price over the base model. If you want a Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid, opt for the Select trim, but add the Safety Sphere group. It brings a 360-degree camera system and front and rear parking sensors to make the minivan easier to maneuver in parking lots or tight spaces.

2025 Chrysler Pacifica Pinnacle PHEV 4dr Minivan (3.6L 6cyl gas/electric plug-in hybrid EVT)
After seeing my 2013 T&C in action, my wife decided to trade her transmission-troubled Nissan Pathfinder in and become a minivan mom. After a year and 16k miles, we've only encountered 2 glitches, detailed below, which resolved themselves, and 1 persistent and dangerous problem. This review is for people comparing modern minivans, and for people coming from an old Chrysler … minivan.
Pros:
- Fantastic combined gas mileage (high 40s), if you plug it in daily. On trips, it's only slightly better (2-5 mpg, ~29-31 hwy) than my 2013 T&C (26-27mpg hwy), and far better than the 2013 Pathfinder (16/23mpg).
- Great acceleration for a minvan. My 2013 T&C is a dog, and the standard Pacifica wasn't noticeably better. The Kia Carnival and Honda Odyssey are nearly as good. Toyota is worst. My wife likes her acceleration, so this was important. There's some engine noise and slight hesitation when the engine kicks on to supplement the electric motor at high acceleration, but less hesitation than a transmission shift.
- Decent handling, for a minivan. The lower CG with the battery packs helps. The independent rear suspension design is far and away better than the 2013 T&C's torsion beam. Odyssey has the best handling, Carnival second, Chrysler 3rd, Toyota is very blah, and the steps are noticeable.
- Lots of bells and whistles.
- Quiet. Very noticeable noise reduction from my T&C. I haven't measured it, but I would guess 10-13dB. Much less engine noise than the Toyota under heavy load, and a little quieter than the Odyssey.
- eCVT. Totally different than the Pathfinder's CVT and all non-hybrid CVT transmissions, eCVTs are very robust and reliable. They're only available on hybrids.
Cons:
- Middle seats don't fold. Love this feature on my T&C, but that's where the battery pack lives. Seats are still removable, but heavy and bulky. Also, the fixed seat anchor points are much more family friendly than the sliding floor tracks in the Toyota (and possibly others).
- All the tech. It's nice, but it's a single point of failure. The only analog gauges in the hybrid are the power meter and the fuel gauge, and there's no tach. The standard Pacifica has a more traditional setup. The climate control has buttons and knobs for some things. The 2013 T&C has had issues with the blu-ray player, rear screens, and GPS over the years, some fixable, some not.
- Adaptive cruise. First, there are separate buttons to turn on regular cruise and adaptive cruise. Second, the adaptive cruise wants to accelerate and brake hard, rather than drive smoothly. If someone merges in front of you, it will give you whiplash.
- Cruise control. There is a dangerous flaw with the cruise control, where if you press and hold the + button, it will accelerate indefinitely at WOT, even after releasing the button. Pressing and holding the - button effectively disengages cruise. There are a few NHTSA accident reports that sound like they could be related.
- No spare. The 12v battery is in the trunk where the spare should be.
- Not all options available. The hybrid doesn't come equipped with some options that the gas engine hybrids have, like the power folding rear seat and integrated vacuum cleaner, and you can't get them, either.
- Same issues. The engine rocker arms, the plastic oil filter housing, fuel pump relay, and many other issues carry over from previous designs.
Problems:
- Fueling. When brand new, I had to fuel the van slowly, or it would trip the shutoff on the pump, or fuel would spray out. That issue has resolved itself with no intervention.
- Failed to charge. The hybrid battery has failed to charge 3 times when plugged in overnight. A drive cycle seems to clear the problem.
- Cruise control. This is unacknowledged by Chrysler and the NHTSA, and unresolved. It is easy to duplicate on your test drive. Turn on cruise control, press +, then press and hold + for ~2s. When you release, the van will keep accelerating. I don't think the brake disengages the cruise control, so use the Cancel button to stop accelerating.
Overall, I would buy a second Pacifica Hybrid for myself if my van died, but not sure if I would go top spec. My wife only has to fuel up once a month, if driving in town and charging nightly. I'm fueling up at least once a week. I'm slightly jealous of how nice hers is, but I also don't miss that payment.

2025 Chrysler Pacifica Premium S Appearance PHEV 4dr Minivan (3.6L 6cyl gas/electric plug-in hybrid EVT)
I have owned three Chrysler mini vans and these cars are fantastic. I currently own Limited S Series with red interior and RED EVERYONE who rides with me loves this vehicle. The Stowe and Go seats are great. The electronics are the best and easy to operate. If you want a car to drive in all weather conditions this van is great. Average mileage is 27 mpg. Trips are higher than 29-30. Very … quiet. Buy one and you will love the Pacifica LTD S series.
