Overview

Shoppers looking for a small, inexpensive car seem to have fewer choices every year. In fact, two of our favorite pint-sized hatchbacks — the Toyota Yaris and Honda Fit — were recently discontinued. But there are still a few models worth seeking out, and one of them is the 2022 Chevrolet Spark.

The Spark offers strong value for the money. It has good fuel economy, a low starting price and a long list of standard features. Some rivals — including the Kia Rio and Hyundai Accent — are a little more powerful, efficient and more generously equipped. For instance, both of those competitors come with standard power door locks and windows, which are optional on the Spark. However, the existence of far less desirable vehicles in the class (Mitsubishi Mirage, we're looking at you) confirms that while the Spark isn't the most enticing hatchback out there, it's still a solid pick.
2022 Chevrolet Spark trim level differences
The 2022 Chevrolet Spark is a subcompact hatchback that's sold in four trim levels: LS, 1LT, Activ and 2LT. Every Spark is powered by a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine making 98 horsepower and 94 lb-ft of torque. You can choose between a five-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission (CVT) on all four trims.
Which Spark trim does Edmunds recommend?
If you're considering a subcompact vehicle, chances are that the out-the-door price is a major consideration. That said, the base LS is a little too bare-bones for us to recommend. The next-level 1LT is a great option if you want to keep costs low but still have desirable features. The power accessories, remote locking/unlocking and cruise control features will pay dividends over the years.

21 Chev Spark is a nice, solid car for the money. The technology you want comes standard. It’s a great A to B type car.

2021 Chevrolet Spark 1LT 4dr Hatchback (1.4L 4cyl 5M)
I found the Chevy Spark so practical we bought 2 of them. If you are looking for a race car buy a Dodge Challenger. If you are looking for 3 roll seating and storage buy a suburban. This car does what it was designed for. And for people to be negative about the Spark you need to buy what fits your needs. I just think this little car is as nice as a pocket on a shirt.
awesome little car

2021 Chevrolet Spark LS 4dr Hatchback (1.4L 4cyl CVT)
I'm 6.2 and I can drive comfortably with a car seat in the back front facing though not sure about back facing. I figured I would throw that out their for starters. Grate fuel mileage. You can find a parking spot anywhere lol. If you are good with basic mechanics such as brakes and what not and look online for parts they are dirt cheap. I haven't had to work on anything yet because … it's new but thats one of many things I looked at before deciding on buying this car. Tires are cheaper to. It handles really well. The steering is really responsive. I know alot of people complain about acceleration but honestly it's not that bad even when I have my family loaded up in my car. It's obviously nothing compared to my 2012 3.6L Impala but I can still pass people comfortably on the highway with no issues maintaining a constant speed. Road noise is a little loud but it's to be expected but not by any means defining and nothing the volume nob can't handle if it bothers you.
I will note it did take me a little bit to get used to the CVT. it responds and acts a little differently than a traditional automatic transmission but it's not bad. I have not gone through a winter yet that will be on another review. where I'm from we get alot of snow, ice and slush so we will see about that when it comes. from alot of reviews I've seen and read everyone says it does fine with a good set of snow tires which I will get and just from driving the car itself I think it will do good. If not I will write another review or if I can edit this one later.
Yes their are things I wished this Ls model came with like cruse control or brighter headlights or better yet a rear trunk latch so I don't have to use the key every time I want to open the trunk but It is what it is and I can have most of that installed down the road. The higher trim levels offer these options but I wanted just a cheap basic car so thats what I got. The other thing I love about this car is the fuel mileage. I'm currently up to almost 31 mpg in the city. I only pay around 20$ to fill my tank up from a quarter of a tank. it only has a nine gallon tank but it lasts just as long or longer than my impala's 16 gallon tank. Yes I would and do recommend this car.
We have a limited number of reviews for the 2022 Chevrolet Spark, so we've included reviews for other years of the Spark since its last redesign.
