Catastrophic ENGINE FAILURE 2021 Trail Boss Chevro

2 TRUCKS - 90,000 TOTAL MILES - 1 FAILED ENGINE - 1 FAILED TRANSMISSION. After my 2017 GMC Sierra dropped its poorly engineered, and now discontinued 8 speed transmission at 74,000 easy hwy miles, my 2021 Silverado 1500 Trail Boss LT now has a catastrophic engine failure with only 16,000 miles. GM is breaking my heart. I have always been a GM loyalist. Both my grandfathers spent their entire careers working for GM. Nothing else has ever been allowed in the driveway. Seriously. Today, I am sadly rethinking that position. Let me detail my latest experience (still underway): - Repeated engine lights kick "service exhaust warning". - Take into the dealership who gives it back to me saying they followed the GM bulletin and could not service the vehicle because they could not get the issue to duplicate within 50 miles. - More engine lights. Make another appointment at dealership - Two days before appointment the lifters on one side of engine ail. Vehicle is undriveable. Service emergency brake light comes on. Service traction control comes on. Service ABS brakes comes on. - GM reported faulty parts on the engine's lifters, but will only fix the side that has already failed. They told me if it had failed with less miles on it then they would of replaced both sides. Remember I brought it in once already and they gave it back to me - "nothing wrong". Today it only has 16k miles on it. - So... I call GM. 3 Days to get my case advanced to a case manager - Shrazondalyn (who is very nice but neutered in her ability to help me) - I request a replacement engine or both sides of the engine's lifters replaced. 7 more days waiting on a response.... no call. - Call Shrazondalyn back who informs me my request for a new engine or full lifter replacement bas been denied. - My case is still open today waiting on a second "escalation" request which I've already been informed will take 2 to 4 more business days to get a response, and will likely result in the same denial of a proper repair, and that I will not be able to speak with the actual staff member making the decision. So where does that leave me... It leaves me with a brand new truck whose other lifters are likely to fail and leave me stranded on the road. It leaves me with a potentially damaged cam that will fail in another 10 - 15,000 miles and again leave me on the side of the road. It leaves me in a position where I am forced to sell the truck, or pay myself to fix it properly. The dealership quoted me $3500 to replace the other side of the engine's lifters. I am broken. Last year I forked out $4400 to replace a transmission, and now after patronizing GM and purchasing what I thought would be a reliable 2021 Silverado Trail Boss, I am left with the option of another huge vehicle expense or a forced sale of my truck. I am terribly disappointed in not only my personal experience, but discouraged by the the response of a company I have chosen to support my entire adult life. I currently own three GM vehicles, but if they don't get this one right, I am afraid it will be my last three. UPDATE: I sold it and bought a Tundra with the old and reliable 5.7

The problems started with just 300 miles with A/C issues. I have had my Trail Boss 5.3l since December 2nd, and it has been in the shop 7 times. It has been in for A/C issues 5 times, purge valve once, and then a lifter failure which damaged 2 injectors and bent 2 push rods. Needless to say with just 6700 miles on it, I got rid of it. GM has no answers for the A/C issues and there are multiple trucks in the shop with lifter failures.

I have a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado and I have been to the dealership 3 time with issues with my check engine light coming on with less then 3000 miles on the truck. Each time I go it’s the same code. They tell me we could not find any issues so we just reset the light. I am sick of this truck I will be going back to the dealership in the morning due to the fact my check engine light is back on for the 4th time in less then 3 months.

GM Needs to Recall - Another "Bad Lifter" Case

Purchased new in December 2021. Just rolled over 8,000 miles. As many others have stated the problem started with a single "knock". Issues escalated quickly. After driving just 12 miles after I first heard the "knock" I had a flashing check engine light, solid traction control light, parking break light, "check ESC" messages, horrible low idle vibrations, and loud knocking. I contacted GM Roadside Assistance, who "rescued" the truck and took it to the nearest dealership. Diagnostics lit up like a Christmas tree. Misfires in three cylinders (primarily one - 11,000 misfires). Replacement lifters for one "bank" ordered. I'll be shocked if they don't find residual damage once they tear they "disassemble" the motor. Pretty horrible feeling to have a brand new $60K truck with a junk motor. I'll regret my decision to purchase this lemon, after owning Toyota vehicles the past 15 years, until the day I can get rid of it. This is definitely a case where the cover looks MUCH better than what's under the cover.

Started noticing a intermittent vibration/shutter at about 4,000 miles when gently giving it gas. It has about 9,000 miles on it now and does it all the time. It's a 2.7l 4cyl. Has been to 3 dealers, 1 dealer twice. TheY magically say there's nothing wrong with it. One dealer did say yea I noticed it but, that's because it's a 4cyl. Every person that rides in it asks mE why it's doing that. I feel like I'm being lied to by the dealers just so they don't have to fix it. I absolutely hate driving this truck!!!!! Only kept it for 6 months do not but v8 or or any with 8speed tranny!!!

Bought a new 2021 silverado 1500 high country deluxe, 5 months 8000km later heater core is plugged went to service department they did not have any blue devil radiator flush so would not perform the flush. Drove 4 hours to buy 14$ bottle of flush had then do flush no change then 2 days to change heater core fast forward a month 15k cylinder 1 exhaust lifter failure 2 days to fix and only one side repaired. Two days later -30 and once again drivers side barely any heat unless reving the engine past 1500rpm. Service department has been good to me but good luck trying to get ahold of gm canada 3 weeks and still can't reach anyone 90,000$ truck and treated like crap my recommendations is do not buy this truck. Interior is nice music is insane quality and loads of other nice features but they ain't worth nothing if your vehicle don't have heat or a engine

Brand new 2022 Silverado Custom, and my first GM product ever. Less than a month of owning it, one day it decided not to start and the battery was completely dead. I received an e-mail from OnStar saying there was an airbag issue and to contact the dealer within 1 day. This was a Sunday, so I did an online service appointment for Monday. Got the truck in and after going insane about not getting any calls from the dealership days after it had been there, I was told the front collision module was shorting out and a GM engineer was assigned to my truck to diagnose it. After nearly 2 weeks at the dealership, I got the truck back and wouldn't you know, the same issue again. It's back at the dealership and I am now told the GM engineer may have to come to the dealership to diagnose the truck. In addition to the safety issues regarding forward collision detection, the key fob will randomly lock itself inside the vehicle, and the factory paint job is a disaster on the drivers side doors. Never took notice to the paint since I picked it up while it was raining out. In direct sunlight the paint looks like a hologram and I was told by the Sales Manager and Service Dept that it is a factory defect. Piece of junk this truck is and very poor build,

Trailboss stutters like a dog shXXXX a peach seed

I have little more than 1000 miles on a new 2021 Trail boss Lt with 5.3 and 10 speed trans and its already in the shop. When accelerating at low speeds the truck stutters and lurches like a dog trying to shXXX a peach seed. Ive seen so many comments on this i don't know what the problem is but this is what Ive read. Some say its the transmission and some say its due to the DFM others say its due to an improper torquing of the ball joint. but one thing they all have in common is the dealer cant or wont fix in most cases.I fear I just purchased a 50,000 dollar paper weight. I'm extremely worried because this is now the only vehicle I own and I bought it for reliability. I had no idea chevy has dropped so far down the list of reliable vehicles it has been 20 years since I bought my last truck and it was a Dodge Ram. If they cant fix this stuttering truck I will not be able to drive it and I will not be able to buy a new vehicle for many years. I see many people have had this issue going back a quite a few years. it started with the 8 speed transmissions and they still haven't fixed with the new 10 speed transmission. many say the 10 speed trans is awesome but dont beleive it, do your research and you'll see that this stuttering and lurching has been an ongoing issue since this 10 speed trans has been out.i have truck at dealer now and they say it will be a week before they can even look at it.I wiil update my review after receiving truck back from dealer. One thing is for sure if they return to me and say it fine just live with it like I've read from many who have posted about this issue. I will return this truck weekly until they fix it or replace the truck this is unacceptable for a new truck to go into shop 1 month and 1000 miles after purchasing brand new.

2021 loaded Silverado LTZ - lifter broke at 14200 miles on the interstate while my wife was driving with 3 grandkids in the back seat- truck basically shut down - warning lights everywhere- my previous Chevys were bullet proof - it’s in the shop with the engine torn down. GM will only fix the side that was affected- can’t wait to see what happens next…

Started with lifters followed by alternator

Best thing I did was trade it in after 8 times at the dealership. It all stared with a rod and two lifters going out followed by the alternator. After the alternator (I think it fried some electronics) the stereo and dash display had to be replaced and reprogrammed more times than I can count. If you buy one find a good service writer because you will be drinking buddies in about 4 months time. I would give the truck 0 stars if possible.

To begin, I have always looked up to Chevy trucks and was so excited when the time came to buy my first brand new truck. Now, this was going to be the truck I planned to buy with all of the bells and whistles and drive it hopefully for as long as I could. That lasted about 3 months after I purchased the truck when I was driving off base and heard a random clicking noise, which got worse sounding and louder. I got home and immediately called the dealership I purchased the truck from, told them I had a brand new 2021 Silverado LT Trail Boss with the 6.2L engine and only 4K miles on it and it was making this specific noise. They told me they couldn’t get the truck in for 3 weeks, so I called the other local dealership and still, the same timeline. Thank god I had a school coming up which I needed to travel so I did not need to get a rental car for the time being. Once they diagnosed the issues it was a failed cam shaft and faulty lifters. They told me they would replace the entire engine. I advised them that there was also other issues I’ve noticed such as a creaking and popping noise from the steering column, driver side rear view mirror would shake and rattle at Highway speeds, sounds of an exhaust leak, and also a rattling noise from the exhaust during start up. They told me they would look into the issues and keep me updated on the process. Eventually they notified me that they would just replace the cam shaft and faulty lifter, and the other issues had been fixed. Once I got the truck back I realized the other issues had not been fixed so I rescheduled another appt, which led to the rear view mirror being fixed and they would order a part to fix the exhaust system. It has been 2 months since and the part still has not came in yet. Overall, I am highly upset with the performance of this truck. I had never had the truck off-road, I have fueled the engine with 93 rated gas as the manual called for when having a 6.2L engine, and took great care of the truck just for it to fail at 4K miles. Including all of the other subsequent issues as well. I have completely lost faith in the dependability of the truck and I am honestly just waiting for it to fail on me again. On the contrary, I still enjoy the appearance of the truck, and the features inside such as the upgraded speakers, and heated seats and such. Although I enjoy the cosmetics, I do not rely on the truck at all and considered looking into a new 2022 model Silverado in hopes that GM had fixed the kinks. All the reviews I can find on the 22 model are horrible and seem to all have the same mechanical issues. So I will be looking to buy another truck that is not Chevy. I have never written a review ever in my life and I am highly upset I had to write a negative review on a truck that I waited many years and worked very hard to purchase, but I feel the need to inform the public in hopes that potential buyers use caution if considering this truck.

Great truck with the upgraded engine 5.3L which turned out to be crap and leather bucket seats and advanced trailering . love the Bose system, would be better if GM would let dealers install navigation at their shops . Why did GM discontinue navigation system installs at dealers ? Follow up ; at approximately 6500 mile on the truck had major engine problems - bad lifter, bent push rod so now I have a new truck with a rebuilt motor .

We bought our 2021 truck in September 2020. On the first hot week in April 2021, the AC went out on the drivers side. The dealer replaced a sensor covered under warranty. June 21, the AC completely stopped working. I took the truck back to the dealer. Another truck came in with the same problem. After two weeks and flying a technician in to find out the problem. They are replacing the condenser and other things. They do not know if that will work. I will find out next week. I will update.

2022 refresh RST 3.0 Duramax, not the 5.3. So far the truck runs really well and the mpg is great. Best ive gotten is 28.7 and average over 23 but im not shy with the pedal. There are only 2 things im not fond of, the seats aren't the most comfortable and the new infotainment system is very slow. I came from a ram with Uconnect 5 so I guess I expected more. The position of the screen is much better but the system itself has a 2 or 3 second lag doing almost everything and isn't nearly as configurable. Don't get me wrong, its a good truck but theres definitely room for improvement

DO NOT BUY! Bought brand new Silverado RST 5.3, 8 speed in March 2021. November 7 and 10,136 miles later knocking ticking, rough idle. Diagnosed as lifter failure Bent push rods. Dealer Couldn’t give me a date to have it finished due to part shortage… not to mention 3 other silverados were there for the same reason. I need a truck so long story short they ended up buying my truck back from me and now I own A F150. Always was a GM guy, never again!

Have an off road trail boss that has poor air intake. Drive thru less than 8” of water in a main road (not off roading) and water drowned the engine. 2mths old and having to put a new engine in it. They say it’s my fault. I have to Claim with my insurance claim. When old cars are passing me by in the same water level with no issues!!! Quick to sell you, but won’t take the responsibility!!!

I got the custom because I liked the looks, got the 2.7 after much research. Recently got 26 miles per gallon on a 134 mile interstate trip through the mountains of WV, with the low end tourqe of this engine, I don't think it shifted down one time going up the mountains, amazing engine. Let's hope it lasts.

Why I wish I stayed with Ford.

After 40,000 miles... Some reasons why I ***hate*** my 2021 Chevy Silverado and wish I would have just stayed with Ford: 1) The Android Auto connection is trash. My phone gets deleted, at random, about once a month. I have to completely re-add everything. 1B.) The ability for the head unit to actually recognize what you're saying is "ok" at best. 2) The dealership had to drill a hole in the wheel well to get one of the trim pieces to secure in, because the holes didn't line up. So, driving at a speed above 55mph resulted in a notable rattling. 3) The random times the remote start doesn't work. 4) You can't fully turn off the adaptive cruise. 5) If you press down on cruise control more than once, the truck hits the breaks. No coasting for higher MPG for you! 6) The mirrors lock up regularly when opening/folding them. 7) Cheap interior. 7A): A dog jumped on the seat and tore a small part of the seat by literally stepping on it. Nothing special. 7B.) A piece of cardboard/wood trim tore part of the dashboard by bumping into it. 7C) A few spots don't line up 8.) Oh, you like resting your arm on the door with your hand on the wheel? Enjoy the way your arm sits with the door ledge between your elbow and funny bone. PS: Your hand goes numb after about 5 minutes like this. 9) Enjoy how touchy the auto up/down for the windows is. 10) Way more demanding maintenance schedule. 11) The interior lights auto-dim during the day. Especially going under darker overpasses. Enjoy the next few minutes without being able to see your speed, the head unit, etc. 12) Nobody carries the oil (AC Delco 0w20 DexosD). Literally...nobody outside a dealership and 1 shop I've found that making the hours there would take quite the effort. 13) Regularly heard that people couldn't hear me when using the truck's microphone. 14) The windshield wipers that came with it lasted a whoping 6 months. Yup... six. 15) Don't want OnStar/SiriusXM? Tough. It'll say they can't connect literally every time you start the vehicle. 15-B.) No, you absolutely can not disable that app.

The shifter on the console if you bump it, it can go into nuetral or even reverse. The safety sensers are dangerous. you try to get out of the way and it locks up the brakes or jerks you back. Already looking for something else and getting rid of the problem vehicle

There are no deals on any vehicles at this time, find a style you like and a dealer you trust, and prepare to pay top dollar, I looked at Toyota, Ford, and Ram before choosing the Chevy Trailboss, I traded my 5month that old gladiator wasn’t a bad truck but I wasn’t overly impressed. I opted for the trailboss Lt with 10spd transmission, the truck is predictable, it’s fairly smooth at hey speeds, but for $54k, I would have liked it to have included leather..come on Gm.. put some pride in the interior. The factory lift gives it a nice stance the exterior styling looks like a truck should, solid and capable. Mpg is 21.5 on the highway and 16-17 mpg city. The audio system is nothing special, but I didn’t buy it to “boom”. The 4x4 system works well, but I wish it had a select “locker”. All and all I’m quite pleased with the interior size, the acceleration, and looks of this truck. Time will tell if this truck is a winner..but first impressions…I think it is

On my 2019 I had navigation and probably the best voice activated system on the market. Enter Google. 50% of the time I try to call out. it keeps telling me to enter the string. The nav requires a subscription, on the old system you could turn on Android auto and display your nav if you didn't have it. Now, you can't turn on maps while android auto is on. Old system you could use in the mountains. The new system is unreliable Trash that looks pretty and costs 80K. It frustrates me to no end and makes me want to sell the truck.

Bought a custom Silverado dbl cab with the 2.7L engine, wow.. This thing moves for such a huge vehicle. Space is abundant & cavernous, power is delivered smooth & quick, utility is there. Everything I could want or need in a basic truck is there, I was actually looking into an f150 double cab but to me the blacked out Silverado custom appearance looked way cooler and bigger for some reason. Looking forward to driving this thing for many years to come!

Love this Truck, Like a Rock!

11/30/23 Update: this truck has been awesome, minus some trim pieces that seem to have given out (a bronze colored grill slat that decided to come apart, and the bronze trim piece on the steering wheel kept discoloring), the truck has been excellent. Mechanically, the truck has been trouble-free. Currently, have 45K miles on it, still returning on average between 22-24 miles per gallon on highway with 91 octane and 6.2L V8. The truck is comfortable, A/C cools down and heats up the cabin quickly, tech is good compared to the newer trucks is decent. Will continue to use this truck mostly for highway cruising and carrying various loads for the maintenance of our home. We love this thing and it gets stares everywhere it goes. Wish I could grab the interior of the ‘23 model year truck and put it in ours. It would be a perfect truck! Update 5/29/23 having owned this truck for almost three years, the truck has been an excellent travel companion. Almost 41K miles, and have not had any issues with the truck. Consistently earned 22-24 miles per gallon the highway, stress free, comfortable, and smooth driving experience. The truck is powerful, and considering its size has all the bells and whistles you would want in a modern vehicle. Yes, compared to the refreshed 2022+ model the truck lacks the screens and interior refinement; but the reliability, and relative low cost of ownership (except for fuel) has been excellent. November 28, 2022 Update: having owned this truck for almost two years it has been a flawless experience. The vehicle has been excellent in its performance, comfort, and efficiency. Currently have almost 32K miles on the odometer and the truck has been an excellent highway cruiser and household hobby supporter. We routinely achieve about 23-25 on the highway running 91 octane. On a rare occasion have even achieved 26 on the highway. Of course in the city, that’s a whole other matter with about 13-14 miles per gallon. The truck has been excellent, no electric gremlins, the only defect has been minor, the High Country specific steering wheel trim piece keeps peeling and discoloring. Have replaced it once already and will probably have to do it again. Not sure why this keeps occurring. Never have had any problems with the truck and it’s our companion on commutes to the SF Bay Area. Older UPDATE: Still love this truck after more than a year of owning it! Truck has been very good to our family and is blast to drive. Yes, it might not have the newly unveiled screen or digital dash of the refreshed ‘22 model year; but the trucks bones are still great. We average about 13-14 in city and about 21-24 on the highway, even on a rare occasion of hitting 26 on the highway. We run premium fuel, that so far has yielded the best results. Knock on wood, we have not had any issues with our truck, and always delivers on what it was designed to do! Love our cherry red tint coat High Country truck! Older Review: Love this truck, this vehicle has been stellar thus far. Purchased it about a month ago, and have accumulated 1,000+ miles so far. Excellent all around vehicle, second Silverado High Country owned; last one was a 2015 with a 5.3 liter engine. This one, is 6.2 liter engine, very fast and not much of penalty compare to the 5.3. Very comfortable, a little bumpy of choppy roads due to the 22 inch wheels, the adaptive suspension helps; but it’s a truck not an Escalade. Very happy with fit and finish, yes, the vehicle could afford to have a bigger screen (and the Apple CarPlay appears washed out compared to the high definition in the Home Screen). This is a minor gripe compared to the all functions the truck has. Average fuel economy has varied close to EPA ratings on highway (primary usage of truck). Currently experimenting with using regular 87 octane compared to 91 octane (highest available in conventional gas stations in California). So far, see no difference in truck performance or fuel economy. UPDATE: have owned this truck for about 8 months now and it still is a stellar vehicle. Continue to drive it primarily on the highway (average about 22-24 miles per gallon, 91 octane) that’s with cruise control engaged at 70 miles per hour. The truck is quick, torque and power delivery are really smooth. Once and in a blue moon there is some clunking of the transmission (feels between shifts 3-5 gears). Appears to happen most often when the truck is cold and only when it’s downshifting gears. Does not happen all the time. Apple CarPlay works wirelessly, but it’s connection strength varies by area; typically leave the phone plugged in to avoid issues or static. Despite the recent redesign that was released about a month ago, I still love how my truck looks, rides, and feels on the open road. Love this truck, the way it looks, rides, and the overall comfort and visibility on the road.

My 2009 Infinit QX 56 finally wore me out with bills. I needed something to haul and get good mileage. The 4 cyl turbo hauls butt, has great torque, and the transmission is exceptional. The interior is huge and quiet as a vault The Stereo is phenomenal. Mine is a '21 Custom without all the bells and whistles. I don't miss them. The truck is as fast as an 8 cyl, handles and corners like a sports car and is a DREAM driving on the highway. DO NOT let the 4 Cyl keep you from this truck. It is EXCELLENT. Once you figure out the throttle vs transmission combo, you'll be peeling out. Another Plus- The Turning Radius is better than some small cars I've had. I will never get another brand. Just get one. You'll see.

I have 102K miles on this truck. It is exactly 2 years old. I follow GM maintenance schedule as outlined in owners manual exactly and is performed by my local Chevy dealer. I have had no issues of any kind with this truck. It rides great, has adequate power, decent gas milage for large truck (20-21 MPG hi-way driving speed limit, 15 in town). It’s has Z71 package and does great off road, in mud, and in snow. I plan to buy a 2023.

Traded in our 2018 LTZ with 19K miles in on a 2022 High Country with 1K miles. The refresh for 2022 is great especially the infotainment system and dark blue leather interior. The 22" rims look great but with the low profile tires you do get a little rougher ride. My only concern is the 10 speed and the electronic shifter but we will see. Loved the 2018 but GM had that stupid AFM (active fuel management) cylinder deactivation feature that I absolutely abhor. I purchased a delete dongle and installed it immediately upon purchase at 9K miles. No issues at all. FYI GM has deleted the AFM feature on the 2022's due to premature lifter wear. I guess they finally wised up. Another annoying issue with my 2018 LTZ was a stutter when downshifting sometimes. It was intermittent and not consistent. Upon investigation GM did not set the lash correctly in the rear end and thus sometimes you would get a stutter. Poor quality control. Long term I have no idea how this may pan out. Like I stated it was not consistent just an occasional stutter. I have no idea how reliable this 2022 will be over the long haul. We wanted an updated interior and the newer styling. I have the remaining 36 month 36K mile bumper to bumper warranty left anyway. I may go ahead and purchase a 10 year 100K mile additional warranty when this one gets closer to the time lapse on the 36K warranty. The powertrain is still a 5 year 60K warranty anyway.

Same as EVERYONE else… lifter fail at 11000 at 5:30am on busy interstate, single female on my 2021 Silverado 1500, towed to dealer, had it for over a week. SB reads replace all 4 on side were lifter failed, only had #8 replaced while it’s reading misfire in #6 also. Nothing on service order reading new oil, oil added etc. So was it checked for damaged cam, metal? Doesn’t matter though because I did not leave the lot, as soon as it was started it had a knocking noise. This is BS!! I am not understanding why if this is a known problem, WHY GM continued to sell these vehicles!! It is complete BS!! I contacted a lemon law attorney and will not settle for anything less then a reliable vehicle and if they can’t or won’t do what’s right then a buy back from GM is in my future. Never again will I buy a GM product if they can’t stand behind there mistakes now!

After 2 episodes with the trans and many flashing dash lights , and no apparent fix I decided to dump it . Cost me some money but from what I'm reading it was my only choice unless i wanted to pay for a vehicle that was gonna constantly be in the shop . Not to mention the mental stress of dealing with the ( We Can't find anything wrong BS ) This was my only vehicle so I depended on it for everyday use . Like others have reported, my 2021 Silverado LTZ experienced lifter failure which resulted in a bent pushrod. The dealer took care of me quickly, but after asking multiple times, GM did not authorize them to replace BOTH banks of lifters, only the bank which failed at 35,000 miles. I really liked that truck, but no longer trusted it to take me well past the warranty periods. I decided to trade it and I am in a Ram 1500 Laramie. I won't be going back to GM trucks over this experience.

First, the good. Love the looks of this truck. Drives very nicely and very well appointed. Rides and turns better than my 2018 Ford F-150. I really did like this truck until it left me stranded 400 miles from home in western Montana when what turned out to be a disintegrated pushrod disabled the engine. The dealer rebuilt one side of the engine and things were going well ( after 5 weeks in the shop). Unfortunately after another 1500 miles, the same thing happened. It is now 14 weeks after the first incident and I finally picked up my truck and it runs well so far. My truck has a little over 7000 miles on it and I live in fear that something else will go wrong. I travel in very desolate areas of central and northern Montana and breakdowns in the winter can be life threatening. I always carry full survival gear and a weeks worth of food and water. Probably the most distressing thing is that the service managers reply to me when I quipped that I was very upset about the quality or lack there of with Chevy was, “ these kind of things happen more often than you think”. I’m definitely going to look at Toyota and Ford when my wife gets a truck next year. My advice is stay far away from Chevy until they figure out how to build an engine that doesn’t disintegrate. Maybe they can start by building it in America instead of Mexico. Also stay away from GM stock because I can’t believe they can remain solvent with the trucks they build. One bright note is this has to be one of the safest vehicles I’ve ever owned as it is near impossible to get in any kind of accident with it when it sits in the shop for weeks on end. Also as an update, I just noticed that the 1500 Silverado and it’s GMC cousin sit in first place on the list of least reliable vehicles for 2021 according to Consumer Reports.

Tow Package Lacking

I bought a 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 Trail Boss, mainly as a tow vehicle for my RV camper. The Silverado had the tow package, so I figured it would be adequately equipped. However, I came to find out the fuel tank is only 24 gallons; in all my past trucks the tow package included a 36 gallon tank. There is not even an option to put a 36 gallon tank on the truck--I was told by my Chevy dealer that the way the Silverado is designed, there's not enough room to accommodate a larger tank. So, when hauling my camper, I'm forced to stop every couple of hours to refuel. Annoying! Also I had a backup camera installed on my camper. When I connected the camper to the Silverado's electrical cord, the camera read "no image". I contacted the back-up camera's manufacturer and was told the 2021 Silverado's electrical cord is not sufficiently powered to support the back-up camera. To get the back-up camera to work, I need to purchase another electrical cord to boost the power (an $80 item) however, this cord has been on back order for months, is not currently available, and it is unknown when it will be available. I'm extremely disappointed in this tow package because of the small fuel tank & the lack of sufficient power to use a back-up camera on a camper.

Chevy struck out again

So I couldn't wait until this fresh upgrade finally out. Finally Chevy would enter the 21st century with an actually comfortable interior (like Ram and Ford), modern features and engine choices. Right off the bat I noticed you can't get the 6.2L with anything BUT a 4 wheel drive. So in the high end models, you can only get the same weak 5.3L with an 8 speed transmission they've been pushing for years. Yes, In 2022 you can no longer get the 6.2 with the 10 speed transmission in a two wheel drive, although you could get it just last year. What tha? Is the interior nicer and much more modern? Yes but it's the same narrow and uncomfortable seats they had the year before. They just "look" different. I simply don't understand who's advising Chevrolet., Who's making these design and option decisions? 19 year olds? Time for Chevy to grow up. They lost me business yet again.

No nonsense tough truck that pulls heavy trailers and through the mud if needed with power to spare. What else would you expect from a Chevy Truck? Go get a Mercedes if you are overwhelmingly worried about luxury appointments.

Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Problems

Dave, 11/13/2021
2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Custom 4dr Crew Cab 4WD 5.8 ft. SB (4.3L 6cyl 6A)

The vehicle reports a P2002 error code relating to a partially blocked Diesel Particulate Filter. The test procedure is performed by placing a cheese cloth over the exhaust port, running a high idle and then inspecting the cloth for soot. While there is never any soot the "MIL" remains "on" with this code. Tried different Chevrolet repair shops playing swap that part. Eighteen months latter, still no fix.
