We beat the heat with a thorough test drive

2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Z71 LTZ 4dr Crew Cab 5.8 ft. SB (5.3L 8cyl 6A)
I find thorough test drives under the conditions I plan on using a vehicle are important as part of an evaluation process. Looking at a vehicle and its controls/features is not as engaging or informative as actually driving it and checking the performance of its features. For a full size, crew cab pickup, I found the Silverado to be exceptionally quiet at 80 mph cruising(quieter than a … Tundra, F150 or Ram), with comfortable, secure/stable handling. It also demonstrated good off pavement ability and had a well appointed cabin. I especially like the size and layout of the full center console on the model we ultimately purchased(Z71 LT w/5.3 not LTZ), as well as the Bose audio.
My spouse and I took the Chevy for a thorough test drive on a hot day, used the AC(including the vents for the rear) and sat in all seating positions, including the back. Since our purchase, other rear seat passengers have found the AC in my 2015 Silverado Crew Cab creates a comfortable environment and the combination of the front/rear heat/AC vents work well to cool both front and rear seat occupants. Our friends also have a 2015 Silverado Crew and their two grandchildren enjoy the back seat with no complaints. Can you say AZ heat? Enough of our experiences, take a thorough test drive and discover for yourself.
looks good, but mechanically is a major flaw!!!!

Truck vibrates and makes loud noises. AFM is a joke. Truck can;t make up its mind shifting, might as well be a boat anchor. I hate driving my new 2016 chevy crew z71 silverado. Dealer says vibration with afm is normal. I do not recommend your money be spent on this vehicle.
One big...big catch

The climate control in the vehicle is just fine...no worries.
It's a Chevy truck, so in every way a Chevy truck is capable, this vehicle is perfectly fine. Towing, Hauling...I haven't really off-roaded, but I'm sure that's there
However, the thing is an ergonomic dumpster fire. The steering wheel is 2.5" off to the right of the center of the driver, and to add insult to injury, they … put the instrument cluster even further to the right, so if you draw a line from between your eyes through the center of everything, you're looking at a spot some 20' in front of the truck, in the right hand ditch.
The Center/Radio cluster is pointed straight back, so I (at 5'9") need to lean forward and reach to hit the other side of the radio, which I also need to calculate angles to make sure I hit the right button, since I'm viewing it at an awkward angle. Everything is out of reach of the driver, except the lights and 4wd control.
Seriously, if you need a truck to haul stuff, this baby will hook you up. If you actually want to drive it, buy a Dodge.
Not reliable

2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Z71 LTZ 4dr Crew Cab 5.8 ft. SB (5.3L 8cyl 6A)
1500 LT 5.3. Purchased used 50k miles in 2019, excellent service records one owner. Transmission turned into applesauce at 80k miles - the truck is a pavement princess, I do not tow with it. Doing research and speaking with local mechanics revealed this is a common problem. Beyond this, I’ve had to replace a spark plug wire, coolant hose, suspension components, and some other odds and … ends. Wheel bearings are $600 a piece - both went at 100k miles. MPG is expectedly terrible - I average 12-17. I put $50 in gas in this thing every week and I work from home.. truck is bone stock and well maintained. It’s been very expensive for me to own and I would not recommend it to anyone honestly.
