Best car I've owned in 50 years

My 2008 Z06 replaced a 2005 Z51 Corvette. Beside providing world-class performance, in 26,000 miles this car hasn't had a single issue other than changing tires and oil. It's the best car I've ever owned. It has no rattles, no glitches, and at a steady 80 mph, it gets 32 mpg. Highly recommended.

Corvette C5 to C6 Z06

After 4 years of Corvette C5 coupe ownership I purchased a new 2008 Machine Silver Z06 based on pricing, performance and looks. Having owned the car less than two weeks I can say this is absolutely the best automobile I have owned. The performance and acceleration is superb. The looks are unmatched and pricing for this American supercar is right on. The Z06 is not an economy car but highway mileage in the mid 20's is not disappointing.

Spectacular and reliable performance car, full of

I bought this car new in 2008, and have had not a single service issue in 42,000 miles. Other than tires (lots of expensive tires) and oil changes, the car has been bombproof. Now that all performance cars have gotten heavier than the C6 ZO6's 3,160 lbs., even the heavy 707 hp Chrysler products aren't faster. This was the last American car that had a focus on performance over anything else. Weight reductions include a thinner windshield, carbon fenders, magnesium roof and engine carriage, and not a lot of extraneous options that add weight. It's a pure performance car that's also suitable for long trips due to the massive storage area under the rear glass hatch. I travel with my wife, luggage, a cooler, and a freaking road bicycle! On the Interstate, I have seen typical fuel economy around 31 mpg @ 80 mph, and as high as 33-35 on a few tanks of gas. I've had 20 new cars in my life, and I've never kept one this long. If you can find a low-mileage 2007 or newer, you won't be sorry.

Do I have a lemon

I have been having constant problems with my new Z06.1. The automatic shift from 1st to 4th light does not comes on and off whether I am actually shifting from 1st to 4th. Sometimes the vehicle will not let me fill a full tank instead it only allows me to fill 1/2 a tank. My traction light comes on and off whenever it wants and it seems the rear end is slipping. When I make wide slow turns the steering wheel gets rock hard and I have to really hold it tight as if I didnt have power steering. When I pull my vehicle up to my drive way I hear the roof of the car crackling as if the roof is shifting. My power seat control went out the first week of owership and they had to replace it.

I love this car! I have had 4 back fusions and triple neck fusion and this fits like a glove. It is hard to get in and out of at 55 but once in it, I hate to get out. It is truly an amazing automobile, especially for the money. I have yet to have it over 155 but I can't wait. It performed very well on a NASCAR track, I can't tell you which one, obviously, but it was unbelievable going into a corner at 150 and the "G meter" shows only .6! I was too afraid to put it into the wall, plus my tires had 4500 miles on them. With sticky rubber, I think it could have gone into the corner at 175 but I am too old for that. WOW, you have to get one of these before you die!

427 cubes of modern day small block, push rod V8 engine technology is a wonderful thing! I never thought it would happen in an age of hybrids and ever greener emission standards. The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is the best of all worlds. Big time muscle car performance, yet still docile and comfortable enough for every day commuting. It don't get much better than this! Corvette still rules as America's #1 favorite sports car. Thank you Chevrolet!

I love this car, this is my dream car. Black 2008 Z06 with 3LZ pack, chrome wheels and Navigation system. It is everything I was expecting and more. A well and improved Corvette compared with the previous ones. A car in the mid $70,000 and capable of competing with the high prices cars like Porshe ect. The American auto industry is raising the bar with this car. I was shopping between all the new cars and I am very happy with my decision. The power in this car is unbelievable but at the same time it give you all the technology and accessories the perfect combination. I am using it as a daily driving car and no complaints at all. It making 16/28 MPG not bad for a 505 HP.

I purchased my first Vette ever(Red 2008 Z06). I traded a 07 BMW 335i (I miss it by the way). The Z06 feels very fast and safe. Ggreat handling, great brakes, fat tires, low to the ground, super wide, etc. The looks of this car is just unbelievable. The regular Vette looks so plain and simple compared to the fat fender z06. This car is a real challenge for Ferrari, Porsches, Lamborghinis, you name it. This car screams on the highway, the sound of the engine is spectacular. It makes you want to go to the garage and just start up the car so that you can hear the engine. This car is a perfect sport coupe with a huge trunk (best on its class)

I have been a Ford man for many years and never liked Corvettes. This is an unbelievable car in performance, handling, braking and fuel economy. In highway driving I can easily get 26 or 27 MPG, this is incredible for a 500 HP car. The seats are very comfortable as is the driving position. The car is hard to get in and out because it is very low to the ground. The suspension is very stiff which does not bother me but could be to much for some owners. This car is scary fast !

I bought the car in 2014 with 27,000 miles on it as the second owner. Color: silver (still looks great in 2019 - no rust). All stock, previous owner only added the ZR1 spoiler from that era, tinted the windows, and had a clear scotch guard bra applied. Tires and brakes are expensive. Easily spent $1500 on tires and now it’s time to do the brakes. Reliability: I’ve had two issues with the tire pressure sensors. Note: sensors only have a shelf life of 10 years. Get them replaced for $60-$80 at Discount Tire. The driver side door handle also froze up and refused to open. I had to pull the manual cable under the seat: cost $400. Batteries 🤦‍♂️: so this car has a notorious issue with killing batteries when left parked for over a week. I killed two batteries before buying the Battery Tender $30 value. I’ve driven the car across country in mid summer and clocked 31 mpg two years in a row now; the car passed 40k miles in June of 2019. People aren’t buying corvettes for fuel economy but man what a surprise for a 7.0 liter V8. I had the trunk full and A/C on as outside temps were 80-90 degrees between central Texas to Kansas. The engine and transmission have had no issues but as stated before electronics are beginning to have problems. One last issue,GM’s tracking an issue with the digital clock in the radio. The clock disappeared after the second battery was replaced. Still waiting GMs patch, good thing I have a wrist watch. Update July 2020. Sold. While the engine and transmission ran fine, electronics continued to fail. GM gremlins froze windows down, headlights were showing signs of rain water inside the housing,

With 500 or so horsepower in a 3200-lb. car, things happen a lot faster than you expect, and you get from point A to point B a lot faster than you expected. And this isn't the first fast car I've owned. But I'd love the Z06 if it had half the power--the Corvette team "added lightness" (aluminum, titanium, magnesium and carbon fiber) and the car feels alive. Yet the Z06 isn't particularly punishing, except for the gas bill. The handling is sharp, up to a point. I've never tracked it, and the car's limits are so high that it's difficult or impossible to explore them on the street, but my sense, based on some "spirited" driving in the hills, is that you take a Z06 past 8/10s at your peril. It's extremely easy to get the car out of shape with a little too much throttle, even at low speeds. Whether there's too much power for the chassis, or the chassis doesn't give enough feedback for the car to inspire confidence at or near the limit, I don't know. Probably both. The unpredictability is part of the thrill, of course, but I'd think twice before turning off the traction control. Anyway, it's the first car in 46 years of driving that hasn't ended up boring me. Tremendous bang for the buck, as long as you can keep it pointed straight. Update 4/18/19: Ended up selling the car back to the dealership a few months ago, and not feeling particularly bad about it. Big thrills, but also big expenses. People think that because it's a Chevy, it's basically an Impala with a swoopy body, something that can be repaired with simple hand tools, but in reality it's a very complex car, and the mechanicals are stuffed in so tight that many repairs involve unpacking one or two other bits to get to what needs attention. This isn't a complaint, just a heads up, and the car is tremendous value. But no ultra-high performance car is cheap. Like they say, you have to pay to play. Get something with as few miles as possible (just like an exotic) and be prepared for the day when the repair bills make you wonder if it's worth it.

I finally pulled the trigger when Chevy had the employee pricing. I couldn't be happier with the car. The acceleration is breathtaking. The lines of the car are sharp and a real eye catcher. My only complaint on this beast is the stereo sound system. For $70K put a good sound system in. I purchased the atomic orange Z06 and it accelerates like an atomic bomb and the roar of the exhaust is better than the stereo anyways. I have owned a 1990 Vette and the technology now is just unbelievable especially the Z06. Am I happy with the car, heck yes.

Destroyed Z06 427 engine

The engine in my 2008 Z06 427 Corvette destroyed itself at highway speeds when the intake and exhaust valves fell into the combustion chambers. The local chevy dealer told me the block was cracked and it would cost $15,000 for a new engine. I sold the car and suffered a $30,000 loss. Only to find out later the block was not really cracked. GM knows about the valve seal problem but has failed to do anything about it. The Corvette is a piece of crap don't buy it. I would only change my opinion if GM sent me a check for $15,000.

This is my second Z06. The first was an '06. I loved it, but decided to return to an '08 convertible. It was a nice car, but I quickly missed my Z06.So, it was back to a Z06. I have never driven a better, more enjoyable car in my life! It's an everyday driver, and I can't wait to start the motor each day. If you can afford it, don't miss the chance to own and drive one. The Z06 will do everything that GM says...and more.

This is the third Corvette I have owned in the past four years. One was a 2004 C5 and the other one was a 2005 C6. This 2008 ZO6 is by far the best handling and performing vehicle I have driven in many years. The reviews are correct for stating that this car is the "best bang for the buck"

The acceleration is exhilerating, especially when the 2 valves in the exhaust opens. It is like afterburners in a jet. The tight handling is unbelieveable. It sticks to the road like glue and comes out of curves smooth as silk. When driving this car all worries of the day seem to disappear.

Make sure you get the paddle shift and NPP exhaust options. More fun shifting with paddles and NPP exhaust gives you the loud rumble a Corvette should have. The 2008 mods to the C6 line are welcome, handling much improved, but I would get the Z51option next time. I’ve since traded for another Corvette after retiring. I have another C6, this time with 3LT package. A must in my opinion. My “new” one has 48k miles and had rear springs replaced. I need to swap out the harmonic balancer as well. Somewhat normal at this mileage for a Corvette, but frustrating. Still loving the styling and performance. I have the Magnetic Ride suspension now with sport and touring modes, a compromise for the Z51 package, but the tour mode is nice for longer trips.

I told my son I was going to trade my 2004 Z06 Commemorative on a new base convertible and he said "Oh, man, don't sell that car. I love that car." He's a really good kid so I gave it to him (he's very happy), then started looking. I didn't know much about the C6, got a recommended dealer to send me a brochure, decided going from Z06 to base is not cool. He had a red one with 2LZ and a black one with 3LZ coming in within the next two months and I bought the red one. He took pictures of it being unloaded. It is awesome. I ran out of space in Suggested Improvements, so will add: Be sure you know what you get in 3LZ before you order it. I'm not too sure about that one for $3500.

I bought my 08 Z06 used in 2014 with 24k miles on it. Kept it stock over the years, so far the biggest challenge was resolving dead batteries. I had to invest in a Battery Tender to fix the issue. Aside from that I had all four TPMS replaced when the car hit 10 years old. The sensors were starting to go, honestly could care less for the technology but it triggers an annoying dummy light. Anyway I love the car and now it’s paid off with summer coming soon. I’ve driven it across country and love the comfort too. I’m not tall at 5’9 but this was a breeze to drive across Texas and up to Kansas, mileage is now 38k. I’ll say the one minor criticism is the cheap front chin spoiler. I destroyed the first one on a low curb, replaced it and ruined another one. I’m content with no chin spoiler. Hope this helps

I like everything about this car. I can deal with the cup holders being medium size. Lol. I have own the car for seven years, and always enjoy the ride, and driving it. I recently added a Corsa Cat Back Exhaust System. I enjoy it even more than ever now. It looks, and performs better than when I purchased it. It’s a High Velocity Yellow, 3LZ package. I mainly enjoy it on the weekends, and at Car Shows. It’s the sweetest, fastest car I’ve owned. I have been totally satisfied with this vehicle.
