I bought this car for my daughter about a year ago. I bought it from a private owner who had it for about 10 years. I took it to my mechanic he told me the car was in sound condition. All it needs mechanically is a tune up and redo the front suspension. My wife has always loved Volvos, she is on her third XC90. My daughter likes the look of 1995 850 turbo. We bought it for $1900 put another $750 into it as of right now it is a fun reliable car to drive.

When I was 16 my parents gave me $3000 and told me to get a car. Cant say I had alot of choices, and I ended up buying a bone stock 1995 red 850 sedan. This car is difficult to describe... you WILL love it for its highs; the durability, the cool-nerd styling, the suspension roomy interior and resonable value. The downs are pretty much like other european cars; expensive to maintain, reliability is iffy, but mine never left me stranded. Through the time I had it, i replaced countless hoses, the gas tank, seat belt mechanisms, electric systems, you name it. But even now with a brand new Dodge Challenger, I think about my volvo, and miss it. And thats what makes this car great.

I rather like my 850. It's fun to drive, and I like smoking those Civic drivers who act like they've got a V8 under their hood. The 850 handles well for such a big and heavy vehicle, acceleration is nice thanks to the turbo, and it even gets respectable mileage if you're easy on the gas. Some of the controls are in awkward positions, but you get used to it. Interior quality could be better, though. The only real complaint is that this car has lots of system hiccups. The engine and transmission are sturdy, but some other systems (AC in particular) and parts are unreliable, and are very expensive to fix when they break. Overall, not a bad ride. Take care of it and it will run forever.

Volvo: Boxy, but good...This car is a tank. Though it looks outdated these days, it's still a solid, peppy drive that gets you- quickly- where you want to go while being too "family" to draw attention. After nearly 11 years, the paint and interior look great and it has been incredibly reliable. Excellent sound system, comfortable interior. Drawbacks include pulling at quick takeoffs and an incredibly stiff ride, particularly for passengers.

Bought as a second car to drive to work. Had only 87K miles. It turned out to be a real money pit and I traded the Volvo on a new Honda Civic. Overall, I liked the performance, the ride, and the feel of the car but had one problem after another. Bought used from Hoy Fox Volvo, El Paso, TX. Terrible service department, had to have several repairs done more than once before they were fixed. They kept telling me that it was an old car and I should expect some repairs. I know that but they had the car on several occasions to fix the same problems again and again. I asked them, "you're the Volvo dealer, if you can't fix it then who can?"
