Honest Little Family Car

*Updated Feb 2024* This continues to be our daily family car. The only major problem it has had was a leaking AC condenser in 2022. An independent mechanic was able to replace the bad part in a few hours and recharge the system. We bought this brand new and besides the AC repair all we've done is basic maintenance, tires, batteries, recalls, etc. It still feels tight and solid, at over 80k miles now and none of the squeaks and rattles are present that you'd expect in a "budget" car. Seriously, I've gotten in rentals lately that weren't holding up as well as this has! It has always had plenty of room for us, though we aren't overweight or overly large. The CVT has held up well and we've come to appreciate it in city driving, which is where it excels. We have kept up on the fluid changes for it. The 2.4 liter engine feels more powerful than it's ratings would suggest, probably due to excellent programming on the transmission. Mitsubishi engineers have always been so good at the basics! Our fuel mileage has averaged 20-23 city and 26-30 highway, depending on speed and conditions. Only gripes have been the really bad OEM tires and the thin paint that chips and scratches super easily. I used to joke that we got the Copper color so the rust on the chips would blend in, but so far it has refused to rust! An excellent set of tires goes a long way on this, don't skimp out on rubber. Summary: If you need a family car that can do a little bit of everything and take a beating, this is it. If you're reading this today, I'm assuming you are in the used market and I would wager these are good bets for the money, assuming the oil and filters have been changed. This is the car most people would say they really want but they buy something else instead that ends up costing a lot more money. I can't stress enough how much of a disservice the "automotive journalist" set have done to Mitsubishi. The Outlander is a fine product.

After 108000 miles the only repairs so far are for recalls.

I had to get rid of my money pit Volvo XC90, my family needed a vehicle that would work for us, which also included a Bluetooth....and BAM the Mitsubishi Outlander popped up in my search...You can't beat the price! The gas mileage is amazing! the room in this thing is beyond our expectations! I have two carseats in the back, everyone is comfortable and happy..the backup camera is awesome! the push start is so handy with two little ones, the days of trying to find your car keys when jungle two little ones are over! the ECO MODE is fantastic! It feels so safe! I got the 10 year/100K mile bumper to bumper warranty, I will have this puppy for along time! very happy! A+

Awesomeness on 4 wheels

I normally would never have purchased a Mitsubishi anything but, while in Europe for work, I rented this model on 2 separate occasions. The first occasion was for a drive from Germany to Italy (11 hours from where I was). The car handled great, was very comfortable and roomy enough (I'm 6'7"), and the fuel economy really impressed me. The second occasion was to travel across Germany from the most western part to Berlin (7 hrs with traffic/road construction). There were 4 of us and we thoroughly enjoyed the comfort, size and the easy transition from highway to driving into the heart of the city. When it was time to buy a new vehicle I had absolutely no doubts as to what I wanted. I'm impressed with the V6 power and I like the ability to choose what type of driving performance at the touch of a button. With the AWD I don't worry about any sudden weather changes in winter or rainy season.

Don't rely on reviews. Tried them all, rav4, cr6, cx7, rogue. Mits outlander by far the best value. Love the ride, comfort, noise level, mpgs. The only area I felt like this car suffered was acceleration. Don't drive in econo mode. It accelerates poorly and does not make that much difference in mpgs . No troubles in 54000 miles. Very comfortable. I have always owned Toyota but took a chance on this. Glad I did. Update. 90,000 miles with no problems.
