DETROIT Photos of the redesigned 2015 Subaru Legacy have been leaked ahead of the midsize sedan's formal debut on Thursday at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show.

The Legacy gets a sleeker silhouette, a contemporary cabin and a more coupe-like profile as it gets set to do battle with such mainstays as the Ford Fusion, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. But the makeover is evolutionary, not revolutionary.

Car shoppers who were expecting a clone of the 2015 Subaru Legacy concept that debuted at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show may be a bit disappointed. The production version of the family sedan lacks the presence and edginess of the Legacy concept.

No other official details, including pricing, technical specifications and launch timing, have been released about the 2015 Legacy.

The images of the car appear to have been leaked first on an Australian Web site.

Subaru teased the 2015 Legacy last week, releasing a single teaser image. At the time, Subaru noted that the sedan gets a "faster windshield rake angle and narrower A-pillars" to create a "sporty, modern look."

Subaru also confirmed that the 2015 Legacy will also offer an improved Subaru EyeSight system, which is designed to help avoid crashes.

Edmunds says: The Subaru Legacy remains the only car in its class to offer standard all-wheel drive, something that may be critical for car shoppers in harsh climates. And now, the Legacy gets a sharper look to complement its practical side.

I really hope these are just artist renderings, because that model is really disappointing. The front end looks like a Ford Taurus, and that's not a good thing.
