Used 2017 Volkswagen Passat Sedan Consumer Reviews
8+ years of ownership REVIEW
Just a great, SUPER reliable car that still looks good, easy to live with on a daily basis and pretty good on gas! I leased a 2017 Passat R-Line in June. Lease expired June 2020 during crazy COVID times so I opted to buy it. Currently 2025 has 102,000 miles and driven daily. LED headlights, power everything, heated seats & Android Auto - covers all important required options! Few main points: 1.) Appearance- aged REALLY well. Grey painted 19" rims match car color, still get compliments on looks 8 1/2 Year old car! Paint still looks great, deep gloss, no fading/peeling etc. 2.) Interior - Drive daily and abused by 2 kids under 10y/o. No rips/fading, all seats keep shape, dash is solid, STILL no squeaks or rattles. Only blemishes - (1) a small tear drivers seat bolster from wear. (2) Driver window express-down switch broke, replaced for $15 from ebay. (3) radio's touch screen towards edges of screen doesnt sork and glitches once in a while requiring a re-boot. 3.) Mechanically - 0 issues! Literally perfect, just normal maintenence. OEM brakes lasted 93,000 miles. 1.8L & Transmission have never skipped a beat. 4.) Fuel efficiency - mixed driving regularly 28-29 mpg. Typical highway commuting averages 34-36mpg and long road trips if I try to hyper-mile it 65-70mph 40-42mpg.

Pleasantly Surprised. Now In Love.
I went to the VW dealership planning on looking at a Tiguan. With the inventory is short supply I happened to check out the Passats a few cars over. Upon opening the door and checking out the interior I was pleasantly surprised to the quality and layout. The first and only car I looked at turned out to be the color combination I was looking for. What won me over was the fit and finish. It feels like a solid car and drove really well. The safety features are fantastic and I believe that's why I'm saving $200 a year on insurance over my outgoing 5 year old Mazda 3. The rear cross traffic alert has saved me quite a few times. Rear seat passenger room is spacious and the trunk is massive. It's only been a year but not issues, runs great and continues to impress.

Sporty but large enough for comfort
This is a nice car. It has plenty of room, drives well, the engine picks up speed nicely and is comfortable to drive for long periods of time.

Needs New Engine at 80,000 Miles!
Does it make sense? Rewrite to make it flow better. "Purchased vehicle new in 2017. From the beginning there were issues. Road noise was always a problem. Wheel sensors consistently went out (which is not a fun thing when travelling on the interstate at high speed). Carpet on the passenger side pulled up within two years. Went through tires even though I ensured they were rotated. Worst of all, vehicle needs a NEW ENGINE at 81,000 miles!!! All maintenance was kept up on. I have a cousin who had this exact same thing happen to her with the same generation of Passat. I HIGHLY DO NOT recommend this car. I will be selling my Jetta as well now. Never will I buy a Volkswagen again."
