2003 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 1.8T 4dr Wagon (1.8L 4cyl Turbo 5M)

Review

I bought this car new in November,
2003. Huge incentive from VW so the
car was a steal.

I've been thrilled with it so far. The
build quality seems far superior to the
Mazda, Matrix, Impreza, Focus. No
comparison really. My sis-in-law owns
an Audi A4 Wagon that is a spitting
image -- same exact engine, same
interior --except the Audi has trip
computer, leather and 4wd. If you
think leather, trip computer and 4WD
equals $17,000, then go for the Audi.
My car was half the price of hers!

Best Features

Engine, overall quality feel, value-to- price ratio

Worst Features

Improve the stereo a bit. Mine is the base model. I had an issue with one wiper blade after about a month. Make the GLS more distinct from the GL - - only difference is the sunroof.

Love it, that's all I can say. No
problems whatsoever.

Best Features

The heated seats and the Turbo engine!

Worst Features

Bigger back seat. Children have want for leg room.

2003 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 1.8T 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl Turbo 5M)

Review

About a year ago I was looking for my
first car out of college and obviously
didn't have terribly much money to my
name. During my hunt for cars that
could fit a sensible budget and still
look good while performing well, it
was clearly evident that the Jetta was
the way to go. Coming from a lead-
foot, the 1.8T was fun for about six
months then I wanted the V6. Still a
fantastic car though!

Best Features

Styling is excellent. The car just looks good. Perfect car for my budget.

Worst Features

Needs much more rear leg room. Make interior plastics/molding less cheap. Black velour is a pain to keep clean (lint everywhere).

2003 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 1.8T 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl Turbo 5M)

Review

The 1.8T loves to run and is worth every
penny for the Sport, Leather and sound
packages. I'm still getting compliments
from young and old about this little
Platinum Grey beauty. The car is still
on-spec after 20K+ miles and getting
27/31 MPG. The ride, 5M and brakes feel
a bit tight at first however it all pays
off when you just have to get out of
way. The ESP is absolutely amazing and
keeps the car stuck to the road rain or
shine. Excellent overall handling. No
other cars compare on price, features
and performance.

Best Features

Turbo, turbo, turbo... Great exterior looks. Sport package. Leather interior and sound system. Cruise and sound controls on the steering wheel. Massive trunk space.

Worst Features

Low end turbo lag. Interior fogs up way too fast. Sun visors that just don't cut it. Longer oil change interval.

2003 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl 5M)

Review

I have had my Volkswagon in the shop
five times in the last two months for
it leaking coolant at aprroximately
21000 miles. They have replaced the
heater core, radiator, water pump,
head gasket, and resevior cap. They
have only managed to slow the
problem. I contacted Volkswagen's
customer advocates, and they refused
to give any assistance. They advised
that they would only continue to honor
the terms and conditions of the
warranty. Keep in mind that at the
time I'm writing this, the car is back
in the shop AGAIN! They say
Volkswagens are safe cars. It's
because they don't run long enough to
become involved in an accident.

Best Features

I'm too mad at Volkswagen to say anything nice.

Worst Features

Change the name of Volkswagen's customer "advocates" to something more appropriate.
