Fixing to go back to service for check engine ligh
Chad P, Dobson, NC, 10/22/2017
2018 Volkswagen Atlas V6 S 4dr SUV AWD (3.6L 6cyl 8A)
We have a 2018 Atlas like the size for the money and has lots of interior and a like the vehicle overall but we drove it home Monday labor day and had to take it back the next day because the check engine light came on and was at dealership for 5 days , now today 10/21/2017 the check engine light is back on . We like the Atlas overall but don't like paying for a vehicle that's this new … that were having to take back to the shop . Hindsight we should have brought a Honda pilot .
2.5 years of ownership... love / hate relationship

2018 Volkswagen Atlas V6 S 4dr SUV AWD (3.6L 6cyl 8A)
I have had the vehicle for 14 months now and put just about 20,000 miles on it so it has been driven but fully maintained. I took it in for the 20,000 mile service and was told that there were two software updates required. That triggered an Airbag fault which kept the car in the shop for 4 days until VW tech support could assist and sort it out. Then on driving it home, the engine … malfunction indicator light came on. Back to the dealership the next morning. Two hours later "it's a catalytic convertor software fault" and we need VW tech support to help clear it. Bring the car back a few days later to coordinate with VW technical support and find out two days later that they need to replace the catalytic convertor. Two days later I am called and told the part is on backorder and no projected date to get it in stock. Now I find out that this is a common problem to the model and they can't source the replacement parts properly. Stay away from the Atlas!!!
Update 1: last 14 months have been uneventful. The car has been reliable. Periodic fault light on dash which always seems to take 1-2 attempts for it to be reset but my guess that is just poor VW service in my location. Car is a great people/cargo mover, just a gas hog.
Nice car not reliable

2018 Volkswagen Atlas V6 S 4dr SUV AWD (3.6L 6cyl 8A)
Almost a year with car and engine oil started leaking. Car turns off by itself. When came to a stop car turned off, took a while to get it running again. It’s upsetting because you dont expect these issues with a brand new car
Safety feature

2018 Volkswagen Atlas V6 S 4dr SUV AWD (3.6L 6cyl 8A)
I have had my volkswagon atlas for 8 months. With it being a family, vehicle I don’t like how the car can be shut off driving down the road with the inconvenient placement of the push start button in the open. Also with the business of life, the sound to shut the engine off and the sound to put your vehicle in park are the same. Sometimes your mom brain just wants to stop the noise and … before you know t your car is rolling forward quietly. Poor safety feature.
Edmunds Summary Review of the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas V6 S SUV
What’s new

- Replaces the Touareg as VW's three-row SUV
- Part of the first Atlas generation introduced for 2018
Pros & Cons
- Pro:Spacious interior offers ample room for passenger in all three rows
- Pro:Great compromise between precise handling and everyday comfort
- Pro:Straightforward cabin design makes everything easy to use
- Con:Not very quick to accelerate, even with the optional V6
- Con:Fuel economy lags that of some competitors
Which Atlas does Edmunds recommend?
We like the Atlas SE w/technology as the best compromise considering price, performance and features. It comes standard with the base four-cylinder engine, but we would opt for the V6. Front-wheel drive is standard, but V6 models offer optional all-wheel drive as well. The SE w/technology package trim builds on the already well-equipped SE by adding key safety systems such as automatic emergency braking along with convenience features including a power-operated liftgate and remote start.

Driving
8.0With the exception of a horsepower deficit, the Atlas is a pretty pleasant crossover to wheel around, especially considering its size. Effortless but direct steering, a quick-shifting transmission and confident brakes are the main components to credit for the pleasant driving experience.
Comfort
8.0The Atlas is well-suited for long-distance trips. Ample climate system capacity and vents for all rows will keep passengers from fighting over the controls. Ride quality is good, too, even with the optional 20-inch wheels. But we found the front seats a little flat and lacking in adjustability.
Interior
8.0Space, space, space! That's what the Atlas is all about. But it also gets high marks for its clever sliding second-row seat with good rear visibility to boot. The upgraded Digital Cockpit interface offers a ton of functionality to go with its good looks.
Utility
8.0If it's utility you value most in your midsize crossover, then the Atlas could rise to the top of your list. Impressive cargo-carrying capacity and easy-folding seats are strong selling points. Small-item storage isn't as clever as others, but the sliding second-row bench more than makes up for it.
Technology
8.0The Atlas shows strong on the tech front at the SEL Premium trim level. The Digital Cockpit interface looks of Audi quality and the advanced driver aids are some of the better tuned systems we've experienced in this class. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto make smartphone integration a snap.
